Headphone Jack, Right + Left Channels cutting out

Hey guys I did a search and found some older posts about this problem, I was just wondering if there were any more recent people experiencing this problem.
I bought my iPod last december and it just started. I thought it was the buds, but my Sennheiser HD 433's are susceptible too. If I wiggle it around sometimes I can find the sweet spot, otherwise its unlistenable.
Can I take it to the Apple store even if I bought it online? Too bad cuz I was just there yesterday buying my new Macbook 2.0mhz/1.0GB RAM/80GB HD, lovin' life with this thing!
thanks guys

Yes, you can take it there.
They sometimes will replace the iPod at the store.
I was just there yesterday buying my new Macbook 2.0mhz/1.0GB RAM/80GB HD
Dude, you got RIPPED OFF!
Take it back and get the 2 GHz model. It's about a zillion times faster!
(yes, I know it was a typo)

  • My MacBook Air headphone jack only left channel works

Builtin speakers are working fine on my MBA 2012, but when I plug any kind of headphone into the jack, only left channel works. If I tune output balance to right, then sound nothing.
I found there are only four metal contacts in the jack, two on each side, then one for ground, the other one for left channel, none for right channel,  what about yours?

At last, found it isn't a problem, actually any 3.5mm headphone of standard can work, just plug into the jack fully ( only one mm left ) .  enjoy ~~

  • Left, right, or both sound channels cutting out

    Hello folks,
This is a second thread I am creating to ask some questions about this other problem I have:
I have a fourth-gen ipod photo. I bought it just before they rolled out the ipod color. I have used this device pretty heavily, I take it with me everywhere I go. I've tried to take good care of my iPod... no major drops, minimal jars, only unplugging it when there's no I/O access, and trying not to charge it until the battery is low.
For several months I have been having issues with sound channels on my headphones cutting out. At first, it was just annoying: left or right sound channel cutting out, fixed simply by nudging the headphone plug in the jack.
Lately, however, this is becoming a bigger problem. This problem does not affect the ipod playing back music in any way, aside from the fact that sometimes the ipod will think I've unplugged the headphone.
Now, sound will completely cut out. Sometimes I hear nothing. Sometimes fidelity will drop pretty heavily and everything sounds like I was listening to my music underwater. Sometimes, just the left or right sound channels cut out. Again, all of this fixes itself by wiggling the headphone jack in its plug.
I use a pair of $20 walmart special Sony Street Style (very nice sound quality, actually) in most cases, but also use it with a pair of American Audio DJ headphones. The Sony headphones have an L-shaped plug, but the AA headphones have a more traditional sticks-straight-out plug.
I am looking to fix this problem myself. I plan on opening up my iPod to install a new battery and maybe fix the other problem I am having (see my other thread), and I am not afraid of the insides of the device.
What I am asking is if anyone else has had this problem, or a something similar? My guess is that the headphone jack's solderpoints on the PCB have become loose, so if I go in there and resolder the jack then I hope everything is hunky-dory. I've seen repair sites that sell the entire headphone assembly for like $50. Would it be better just to replace the whole thing?
Please note that I have no intentions (nor the money) to have a "genius" fix my iPod. (Where's the fun in that, anyway?) Further, I can not afford (and will not buy) another iPod, so that's out too. I am simply looking to fix my iPod and keep limping along until I can afford a newer mp3 player.
    Any help is appreciated
    tom

    Hello,
It looks to me that it can be caused by the bad contact of the metal parts of earphone jack or the loose of its solder with the mother board. Both of them should not be too difficult to deal with if you are good in small elect. device.

  • 3.5m jack on ipod randomly cuts out

so recently my ipod jack has been recently cutting out, first i thought it was my headphones, but then i tried the headphones on a different ipod touch, and they worked just fine, and then i used a different set of headphones on my ipod, they cut out with a move of the jack. I have a 16gb ipod touch, 2nd generation, and my warranty is still good.. the thing i wanna know is, what should i do?
do i send it into apple or go to where i bought my ipod.. and what would I get back, my fixed ipod, or a new one? because they dont sell the 16gb any more, so maybe i get a 32gb? :o
    thanks in advance.

If you're still under the 1 year warranty, Apple should be able to fix or replace the unit, regardless of whether it's still being produced anymore. If you're getting random loss of signal, that's an issue that the Apple Store should be able to fix for you.
If you are no longer under the warranty, you have several choices. You can still contact Apple re: repair issues. https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Other vendors, like iPod Juice, have a good reputation for repairs and service at a more reasonable price; they took care of my battery replacement.

  • DV7t-1285DX - 3 speakers, only 2 work (right, left channel out through subwoofer)

So I recently purchased a DV7t, and while I love the machine I'm having an issue with the speakers. Windows Vista Ultimate 64 is only detected two speakers no matter what drivers I'm using (including latest IDT release). I get right channel sound through the right speaker, left channel sound through the subwoofer, and no sound at all through the left speaker. I've tried different drivers and what have you, so far no joy.
    This question was solved.

Ok, so I bit the bullet and dissassembled my notebook today. As I was putting it back together, I realized that one of the prongs in the speaker plug (male reciever, on the mainboard) was bent neatly upwards. I carefully bent it back into place, got everything put back together, and now all three channels work! While this might be the issue in all cases, it fixed the problem for me. If you try it yourself, be very very careful when you try to bend the prong back into place, they break off easily and unexpectedly, and if you break yours off it's shot for good. Good luck.

  • Toshiba Thrive Tablet Broken Headphone Jack Fix For Audio Line Out

BROKEN HEADPHONE JACK SIMPLE FIX FOR TOSHIBA THRIVE TABLET:
I love my Toshiba Thrive tablet. I take it with me everywhere I go, nearly every day. I also enjoyed connecting the headphone output jack on the side to an external set of speakers. I would enjoy stereo internet, video watching and so on. I recently broke (cracked) the headphone jack on accident. For months, I heard only through the small, factory installed speakers which, is not quite what I'd call 'ideal stereo.' Has anyone else done this? Despite trying to find repair shops locally, no one will touch a tablet it seems for repair or replacement parts. It's not your usual headphone jack. But - I can tell you how to get your sound back!
    THE QUICK FIX
While browsing the internet, I found a device that by-passes the headphone jack and instead uses the internal workings of the Thrive tablet's main connection port. This port is located at the base of the unit. It will be covered by a protective, plastic tab that is removeable. Simply pry a little. This long narrow port was designed to allow you to set the entire Thrive tablet into a docking station designed for it. In this docking station are various connection pins that allow the audio to be sent out of the tablet and into the docking station. At the rear of the docking station you'll find a host of connection types:  1) audio out jack/headphone 2) USB 3) HDMI 4) 110v power supply. Simply plug your speakers or headphone cable into the new docking station and you're done! Your audio will work again. I purchased my docking station for $6.00 on Ebay.  Oddly, the unit doesn't charge very well if at all while in the docking station but I've read you can simply remove the cover from your Thrive, remove the battery physically for a few minutes, return it to it's rightful place then close the cover and this fixes the problem. It's a strange little glitche. I have yet to try this yet. I did find that if I plug the cord directly into the Thrive right side as designed, it will recharge the battery as usual. I ordered a few of these docking stations which allow me to simply set the pad down depending on where I am and it will continue to charge. The docks do not come with power outlet so you'll need to consider buying additional but it works wonderfully. There are now even wireless docking stations too!

  • Gigaworks S750 front channels cutting out/clipping

I'm having a problem with my Gigaworks S750. It works perfectly at low volume (~30% or less). Above that, I get horrible clipping, cutouts, and digital chatter out of the front channels. Audio passed out the headphone jack is fine regardless of volume.
I cracked open the sub and looked for burnt electronics and popped capacitors... didn't find any. I did notice that the plastic wrap on 2 of the 3 transformers looked darker than normal.
    Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem, but I still didn't open the sub, i think everything fine there too...
I li've in Moscow, Russia and I don't know where to get fixed it even for money, anybody help!
I really love this speaker system and i don't want to have anything instead of it....

  • ITunes reversing right/left channels on import

    Hi there-
Currently running iTunes 11.4 on a MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5. When I import audio into iTunes, the resultant files have their left and right channels reversed from what they are on the original source. It doesn't matter what format of audio files are imported. I don't understand what would cause this. Is there a bug possibly? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance-

Yes, that would work fine. As the two channels were split by Pinnacle (wonder why it does that?), from the camera, they should Snap into place and be in sync, especially being WAV. The mix-down will be done automatically upon Export/Share. Same for mix-downs of any other Audio sources, like music, or SFX on other Audio Tracks.
Now, just to make sure that you are getting what was originally recorded, open up Audio Mixer, and if necessary, Pan the Left Channel more to the left, and the Right Channel more to the right. Do not be temped to Pan them all the way in either direction, as you want some phantom center, and that comes from a touch of left in the right, and a touch of right in the left. Most Audio editors prefer working with pure mono sources, as they can then locate them, as needed in the mix-down. I feel that way about 6-channel Audio - give me 6 discrete channels, and let me work with those.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to balance the right/left channel of a single audio file?

Hi, this might be an easy procedure but I cannot wrap my head around the following problem - an audio file, that I use as background music in one of my sequences, has uneven right and left channels - they need to be leveled.
How can i do this in PrPro or Soundbooth? I prefer to edit the channel levels of the original file before importing it into my composition. I work with CS5. So far, I've managed to level the R/L chanels by using the 'Balance' knob in the ProP "Audio Mixer" tab . The problem with this method is that the balnce knob adjust the balance of all audio files sitting on the same sound track, whereas I need to adjust the balance of only one of them. Many thanks.

There is a Balance effect as well.

  • Possible Solution to Speaker Sounds or Channels Cutting Out or Miss

I was playing Oblivion and noticed my 4. Xfi setup sounded odd ... checked in Creative's THX Setup control panel and it was set to 4., but when I checked the right front speaker I got nothing and it sounded like the right front was somehow being mixed with the two rear speakers ... very frustrating. This has happened to me before and there are a lot of posts from users who have experienced it as well. I think the last time I uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers to fix it but I didn't want to hassle with that this time so I tried something simpler first. I clicked on "Restore Defaults" in the Audio Console and now I'm getting all four channels again, from the correct speakers ... Not sure what setting made the difference, but I'd recommend trying "Restore Defaults" to anyone who has a missing channel ...

    Hi
I may have the solution to slow performance when using multi core processing. I was testing out realflow 2013 and noticed simulations were talking a long time to finish when using maximum threads 32. I set the threads to 8 and the simumlation was twice as fast which did not make any sense to me. The simulation was taking 1min 24 secs to finish using 32 threads and 45sec using 8 threads. I realized their has to be a problem here. So I went into my BIOS and disabled Hyper Threading. So now instead of having 32 threads I only have 16 threads. When i went back to try the same simulation again this time the 16 threads was only taking 24secs to finish. and the 8 threads was taking 35secs to finish. This made a lot more sence to me.
Anyway so once I realized that turning off Hyper Threading fixed my simulation problem maybe it might be the cause of my slow performance in AE using multi processing. I tried AE and now multi processing is working great very fast now and stable. MP renders start right away now instead of getting stuck on frame 2 or saying initializing background processes and never ever doing anything. Before I had to keep disabling MP and re-enabling it in AE to get it to start working again and still it wasen't very stable
If anybody is having issues with slow performance from their Multi processor systems try disabling Hyper Threading in the BIOS it might just fix your problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Wireless headphones MDR-RF970R sound keeps cutting out.

I always acquire Sony products and have had good luck by and large. However, I acquired Sony wireless earphones from Best By and although the calim was to a tranmission wpu;d reaach 150 feet, I could not receive a signal at 25 feet. I placed the trasnmitter where I had for the old RCA wireless earphones I had so they should have worked. I promptly took them back to Best Buy. This is why I always shop at Best Buy. No questions asked and no restocking charge.

Oh, bummer!  Sorry to see you had difficulty with them.  Keep in mind we're here to help out if you need us if you have any difficulty with our products in the future.

  • Headphone jack error, with a tw

    Hey,
I have asked this question 3 times in the headphone jack thread but no one has helped, so i'm hoping i'd get more success starting a new topic.
I am having the headphone jack error, where sound cuts out because one of the four 'connectors' has come loose, however the jack itself has come off now, and with it a small strip from inside, which I can't get back inside. Without this strip it appears I can get no sound whatsoever, but I don't know why because it dosn't look like it connects to anything in the jack. This is the picture :
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/ThalinRPG/creativestrip.jpg
    and this is my player
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/ThalinRPG/Picture074.jpg
as you can see, the strip has fallen out. What should I do? I can't get it back in because it just dosn't fit and gets stuck, and without it I don't seem to get any sound. The stip has one of the small 'leads' which solders onto the board, like the other 3 on the jack, so without it I am only able to solder 3 of them, which is probably why I don't get any sound now.

The reason you get no sound now is that that particular piece of metal is the ground return wire for the headphones
basically you have to get that bit of metal back into that hole, or nothing will work.
see this link fo more info.
i put instructions on the image.
    http://img450.imageshack.us/img450/262/picture074ou5.jpg
note that you will have to insert the piece from underneath the socket as it appears in your image.
make sure it is the right way around, and the small slot in the piece is facing the "top" of the socket.
if it doesn't work, post pictures from more angles of both the socket (up close from the other side as well) and the little metal bit being held up (in tweezers) from a couple of angles (end and side on)
hope this helps you.Message Edited by 337 on 08-09-2006 07:39 AMMessage Edited by 337 on 08-09-2006 07:4 AM

  • Copy right channel to left channel ??

    hello,
my name is johan de visser from holland and i'm currently working on a restauration session. i have to transfer a couple of songs from old school tape cassete to cd. the tapes are more than 15 years old and at least not used for 10 years or more.
after transfer i do the 'digital remastered' thing.
there's one song where the left channel dropped out for 2 seconds. i got the idea to copy the right channel to the left, but really don't know how to do this in logic ???
    anybody ??
    greetings and many thanks, johan

    Welcome Johan,
there are several opportunities to achieve this, here are two to begin with :
You could use the panorama automation for the specific part, so for the time of the drop out you'd have a left-channel-only, but-mono - part.
You could also copy the whole track to another audio channel, isolate the drop-out part, and adjust the output, volume and panorama of that copied channel to your liking.
(Maybe it's a good idea to also have a mono listening session after you've repaired the specific passage, as sometimes there can be nasty phase anormalies.)
    Good luck !

  • Only left channel records - help please

Here's my set up. I have DVR with a bunch of movies. I am taking S video out and RCA audio out to a Sony DCR TRV 120 camcorder. This camera can act as a DV bridge. I am going out from the Sony via FW into my PB and trying to capture the movie in iMovie 5.0.2.
Everything is working except that I am only getting audio from the left speaker on the computer. I checked the computer in iTunes and sound comes from both speakers. I checked the camera with headphones and there is sound coming into the camera in stereo.
So, it must either be that I am losing the right channel via FW or the DV bridge in the camera.
I have imported many movies from Hi8 tape without a problem. Is there anything I am missing here? Should try to go from the camera's headphone out to the audio in on the PB? Could it be a faulty FW cable?
Is this a problem with iMoive 5.x? I have read this forum all night long and not found anyone else with the problem.
    I appreciate all replies.
    PB 15" 1.25 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Intel iMac 2.0

"..I checked the computer in iTunes and sound comes from both speakers.."
So the computer's audio is OK.
"..I checked the camera with headphones and there is sound coming into the camera in stereo.."
No: probably not real stereo; it may be the same mono audio coming out of both channels (left & right), giving you the same mono audio in both sides of the headphones. The camcorder may be trying to 'do you a favour' ..and, because it's receiving only mono, it's helpfully(?) playing the one incoming channel out of both headset channels.
"..So, it must either be that I am losing the right channel via FW or the DV bridge in the camera.."
No: FireWire is just a digital link which carries exactly what it's being fed - you can't lose a right channel via FireWire: it passes on exactly what it receives ..like handing on a cake to someone: the person who receives it from you wouldn't receive it with half the raisins or the self-raising flour or the egg missing ..it's all handed on complete.
"..the DV bridge in the camera.." Well, as I said; I think you'll find that the camera is receiving only through its left channel, but is providing that left-channel audio out of both sides (..left & right..) of your 'phones.
So the problem is probably at the very source: your "..DVR with a bunch of movies". Either the movies are recorded in mono, and that's leaving your DVR through only the left channel, or - even if the movies really are stereo - only the left-channel is active (..is connected properly, or has sound going through it..) from your DVR to the Sony camcorder.
One way to fix this is to take the output from the left-channel of the DVR, and feed that to both the L & R cables which go to your camcorder. Use a 'splitter/joiner' like this..
..so you'd connect the left audio channel out of the DVR (..should be a white RCA/phono plug..) to the single pin of this adaptor, and then connect the pair of RCA/phono sockets on the back of the adaptor to both the left and the right audio inputs of the camcorder ..you may be using a 3.5mm jack plug to connect the phono plugs into the camcorder's input.
This kind of little mono to both channels adaptor is available by mail order from most electronics stores, e.g: here, and the simplest place to find one in the States is probably Radio Shack, or that kind of store.
    It's a common problem..

  • Headphone Jack Not Working Macbook Pro Mid 2012 Running Yosemite

    Hey everyone,
I have a Mid 2012 MBP. Just updated to OS X 10.10 and used the headphone jack to connect my external speakers for the first time today. Had no problems t first, but after about 2 hours of using the headphone jack the sound started cutting in and out then about 10 minutes later, they just stopped working all together. Audio works just fine with out them plugged in. Also the sound is cutting in and out using the built in speakers also.
I have Bootcamp(windows 8.1) and I have the same problem when using Windows also. Sounds like a hardware problem but im hopping its not cuz I dont have the warranty anymore(obviously).
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Reset the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222?viewlocale=en_US
When it is not working, look inside the audio output port.  See if there is a red light.  If so, the internal switch is stuck and the jack may free it if inserted a few times.
If none of the above solves the problem, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be FREE.
    Ciao.
