Headphone jack, speakers went dead, analog mic jack dead, HDMI sound ok

 HP ENVY dv7-7270ca
After about a year the device has lost all sound from internal speakers;  the test meter in the 'Playback Devices' shows everything ok with the IDT Speakers, but the Headphone jack shows unplugged when headphones are indeed plugged in.  'Recording devices' shows Internal Microphone Array active and ok, Exernal Mic (IDT CODEC) shows unavailable, with an analog mik plugged into the jack.
Followed the procedures of uninstalling sound devices and drivers, removing batttery and holding power for 30 seconds; reloading device drivers specified in these forums, to no avail.
Did a data backup and reloaded Windows fresh from the factory image.  Went in smooth.  Still no sound or analog mike, or internal mikes for that matter.
I've got a client ready to lynch me because I convinced him to buy this thing.
Any ideas?

    Hi @mcmanus90
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I saw your post regarding the problem using the iPhone earphones. Try setting them as the default recording device. This third-party link will show you how to do it. Now it is for Windows 7 but if you search for Control Panel from your tile page and go to Sound it will be the same from there.

  • Improving SNR on Mic recording to built-in sound-card's mic jack

    Hi all,
I've been doing my recordings from the built-in mic jack in my laptop (sound card is the basic Intel HDA). From the 'headphones' jack of my Korg, this is not a problem, as the volume level is plenty loud enough for my input volume in alsamixer to be set to about 13% or something like that, which basically means minimal/negligable noise.
However, I just purchased a Shure SM57 mic for vocal/guitar recordings. It's an XLR mic, so I use an XLR cable, an Audio-Technica transformer to convert it to quarter-inch, and then a quarter-inch to headphone-jack converter.
My problem is that the volume levels, as you may imagine, are really low on such a setup, such that I have to turn alsamixer input volume up near to 100%, AND activate some mic boost as well. This means that I get heaps of noise, which is obviously non-ideal.
How can I improve the SNR ratio? Some other sort of converting transformers? Do I need a pre-amp? Are there good noise-removal plugins in Ardour that you could recommend?

If your profile is correct you are running Lion so you don't have a DVD you use the recovery partition.
As long as you do an overwrite install and not a clean install (were you wipe the HD before installing) your files will remain only the system files will be written.
Having said that even though it is safe to do whenever you're doing something like this you should have a good current working backup just in case.
See OS X: About OS X Recovery - Support - Apple for information about using the recovert partition.

  • Can't get audio to record through mic jack

I have a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo jack cable connected between the headphones jack of one computer and the mic jack of my MacBook Pro. I'm trying to import sound into Garage Band and I simply CANNOT figure out how to make this work. GarageBand only wants to import from the mic in the front of the my laptop.
I've tried all 3 input settings (mono-1 built in, mono-2 built in, stereo 1/2 built in) and none of them seem to work.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi Bones777,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you do not hear sound from your iPhone speakers, try these steps next:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If you still do not hear sound after completing the troubleshooting above, I recommend backing up your iPhone data and restoring the iOS software:

  • Mic Jack not working after Driver Update, Console unavailable, can't install

LMic Jack not working after Driver Update, Console unavailable, can't install? I've had nothing but problems after downloading the latest updates via the auto-updater.
I'm currently using the Creative SB X-Fi Pro Series card. I've had it for close to 6 months and have not had any issues until I ran the auto-updater last night, and while it downloaded over 250Mb of updates, all of them failed to install as described below.
I'm running on Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit
My main issue is the fact that my microphone is no longer working. I've done a lot of searching and I think the problem has to do with flexijack not being a microphone jack, but instead is an 'in-line' jack. I can no longer find my audio control console, which allows me to switch between gaming and entertainment modes, ect. The solution I found on the KB says that you can switch the blue jack on the back of the card from an in-line jack to a mic jack within the Audio console. I tried downloading it, but while going through the install, I get an error saying the files could not be found and a prompt which asks for a disk or file location. The same thing pretty much happens with all of the items I attempted to download and install.
I was able to run console fine, as well as use my mic yesterday before I attempted any updates. I attempted the updates because since I've had the card, I've had issues where after I exit a game, all my sound will become crackly and static. Before, I would simply open up the console and switch back-and-forth from gaming to entertainment, which would fix the problem most of the time. If that didn't work, a restart would fix it, but now I've opened up a whole new set of issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also want to say that the support tickets should not require a serial number to submit a new ticket. My product is registered, so I got rid of the box which contains all that information, leaving me at the mercy of these boards...

Hello all. Fisrt of all, this are my specs: Yoga 2 pro 13". WiFi card: Intel(R)Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. I bought it from Best Buy on November 27, 2014. If you aquired your Yoga before this date, you may have the single band WiFi card. As many of you have experienced, I also had a bunch of issues with my WiFi connectivity and this is how I was able to solve it. At least it has been a couple of days that I haven't had any issues. The first symptom was the usual connection drops every X amount of time. For me it was about every 2 hours. I first unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option in the Power Management tab of device manager and disabled U-APSD support in the Advanced tab of device manager. This action did not solve the problem. I then downloaded and updated the driver from the Intel web site (http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect) and this seemed to solve the drops; however, a new problem arised: Everytime my Yoga would wake up from sleeping mode, all my wifi networks were gone and the adapter showed as disabled in Device Manager. I would have to anable it to have my networks back. It was a solution but a pain the butt to have to do this everytime. After hours of reading post after post in several forums, I read a repy from Lenovo asking to try leaving the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" CHECKED if you were using the latest version of the driver. I went back to device manager and checked it back and that seems to have solved the problem. So far I haven't had any drops and everytime my laptop comes back from sleeping mode the WFi connection is still there! Here is a recap of how everything ended up: -The driver version I installed is 17.1.0.19-The driver date is 7/21/2014-In device manager|Advanced, U-APSD support is Disbled.-In device manager|Power Management, "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked. Hope this helps somebody else.

  • Audio Through Mic Jack

I recently purchased an Microsoft  A/V VGA adapter cable for my Xbox 360 so that I could set it up to my computer monitor. The audio runs through rca cables with a mini headphone adapter. When I purchased it, I was told that I could put the mini headphone adapter into the microphone jack on my computer and run the sound through my computer. When I do this, I don't get any sound. Can someone help me with this? Everything is unmuted on my sound control, and I am using a Dell XPS 410 with Windows XP. Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The approach you were given should work, although you want to use a Line-In jack and not a mic jack.  Mic jacks are typically mono (they have three pins but one supplies power to the mic).  In many cases the jacks can be reconfigured by software.
Are you SURE everything is unmuted AND the volume is increased?  Usually the Line-In slider is muted and often set to zero in addition to the mute option being set (effectively double-muted).

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

    Hi Bills317,
Regrettably, Apple Support Communities is a user-to-user discussion forum. No one here can answer a policy & procedure question on behalf of AppleCare. Your best bet would be to ring them and ask them what your available options are for service/scope of support.

  • If you have an X-Fi, 4+GB RAM and a non-functioning Mic jack look h

If your X-Fi mic jack doesn't work and you have 4+ GB of RAM it is likely due to a bug in the X-Fi driver set related to this hardware combination. In order to test it, simply remove memory modules until you have less then 4GB of RAM see if your mic works.
I found the issued described in?a random forum after my seventh bout with?Creative customer support over the span of a month. It does not seem that Creative?customer support is aware of this so if you are affected by it please do as I did and drop customer support an email tactfully describing the issue and ask them to have the driver dev team look into it. A flaming tirade to support via email/phone/forum will likely not help get us any assistance (sorry for stating the obvious, some people just don't understand that). There is a modified driver set from a third party available?on the net?that you can find if you search for it. I am using?them and?they fixed the issue for me, but I am not going to post?the link?here as I am unsure if that will get this post deleted or not. You should be able to find it pretty easily if you search for it. If you do decide to find it and use it until Creative fixes the issue I'd suggest you use a virus scanner prior to installing. It checked out fine to me but you can never be too careful. Cheers!

    Hi Jaegar,
To my knowledge, there are no PCI-X or PCI Extended graphics cards for Macs. There are PCIe or PCI Express graphics cards for Macs, but those only work in the PCIe Power Mac G5s.
If you go with a PCI graphics card, you'll be limited to 133MBps @ 33MHz, 32-bit. This is quite a bottleneck for 3D graphics.
The Power Mac G5 never shipped with the Radeon 9200 Mac Edition (PCI) standard. The least powerful card they came with was a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra or Radeon 9600. If you're indeed using a Radeon 9200, I recommend attaching your main monitors that need 3D graphics power to the AGP primary card and monitors that only hold palettes and other 2D stuff to your Radeon 9200 secondary card.
If you're unsure what you have for graphics cards, go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info... That will open up System Profiler. Go to the Graphics/Displays section and your graphics cards should be listed.
Video editing in Final Cut Pro is CPU bound. A faster GPU may or may not help. The same goes for Photoshop as it is a 2D app that can generate images with 3D effects.
If you do get a faster graphics card, aim for more GPU muscle before thinking about video RAM. Without enough GPU power, large amounts of video RAM won't help.
I'm still a Photoshop newbie, but my understanding is that Photoshop is a raster app. That is, each pixel is painted on a page. That's responsible for jaggies. In vector apps, lines are drawn with calculations, so you see perfectly smooth lines even if you zoom in. One way to partially get around this is to draw antialiased lines.

  • Using the mic jack in Captivate?

Any suggestions on how I turn on the mic jack in Captivate 2?
I’m using the 30 day free trial” any chance the mic
record option has been turned off in this version?
The mic and the jack work fine in other programs.
    Thank you for any help.
    Joe

Hi Joe, and welcome to the Captivate User community!
Nothing is disabled in the trial versions. The inability of
Captivate to recognize some mics has been a problem forever, and
all I can suggest is that you run a search (here) to see how others
handled the problem. Wish I could tell you just to "turn it on" but
    it's just not that simple.
You will have to use trial and error with various microphones
or follow the suggestions of others herein, to solve the problem.
Try searching for the string "Audio AND mic". Search at least the
"General", the "Editing", and the "Recording" forums for that
string (hold down CTRL while selecting (clicking) multiple fourms).
That will yield several pages of "hits" on your problem.
    G'day, and good luck!!

  • MP3 Player will not play through Mic Jack - NB 550D

    Hi
MP3 Player will not play through Mic Jack. Is this because I have not setup Realtek Audio Manager correctly?.
Also is there any way to play the MP3 through a USB Port
    Thx

    Hi
    What notebook do you have?
The mic jack records the audio signal. But I assume you want to use the mic jack an line-in. Right?
Usually you have to set the default device in recording tab.
In control panel -> sound -> recording tab.
If you will not see any further devices but only mic jack then you should click right and should enable the options; show hidden devices and show disabled devices.
Possibly then you could enable line in.
Otherwise such option is not available and not possible

  • Mic jack

Does the mic jack on the new MacBooks work with a standard mini-jack microphone, or will I have to buy a new headset?
I would test this, but I don't have my MacBook yet... ;-(

The input on almost all Mac audio in ports in recent years is "line level", jatucker, optimised for connection to outputs typical of hi fi gear "line out" levels and the like, rather than microphones. This is great if you are working with many audio sources, but poses a problem with quite a few mikes. The specs suggest that the same is true for the MacBook.
In this case, unless your microphone has a high output level, or uses a pre-amplifier, it will probably be too low for use with the MacBook.
The usual options with Macs are to use a "line level" mic, to use a mic pre-amp, to use a USB sound input - like the Griffin iMic, or to use a bluetooth headset.
What brand / model is your existing mic / headset?
    Cheers
    Rod
