Headphone Ouput Raises the sound too quickly

Hello everyone.
I have a presonus firebox right now and I'm using the headphone output. But it's very frusturating because the ratio of knob turn to sound increase is way out of proportion. The first 3 Knob turns from Zero (Mute) are quiet and only in my left ear. And I've only gotten to the fifth, because after that the sound is too loud to bear. There are about 46 or so Knob turns in all. I've tried going into Audio/Midi setup, but changing the output volume there is like pressing the volume buttons on my keyboard and doesn't do anything. The firebox didn't come with any driver. It uses the core audio of the mac. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers!

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem with your Firebox, have you asked on the presonus forums? You'll get a fast & useful response. You can also call or email them directly

  • Connecting Case Microphone/Headphone Jacks To The Sound Blas

I just got a new computer with a Foxconn TLA-776 case that has microphone/headphone jacks on the front. There are 7 seperate plugs that come from these jacks. Ground, Right Out, Right Return, Left Out, Left Return, Mic Power, and Mic In. I tried plugging these into the white connector on the card with 0 pins, but they didn't fit correctly. Is there somewhere else these connectors are supposed to plug into on the card? They were originally plugged into the motherboard's onboard sound.

You didn't mention which card you have there but as an example, this is for Audigy 2 Zs. Arrangement for pins may vary between different models of cards. For example on Audigy 2 (SB0244) -->
    - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Analog Headphone Out Right
4 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
    ... (i.e. pins 3 and 4 were swapped vs. A2Zs arrangement)
    Didn't connect the mic.
Here is another link covering subject (st link seem not to work right now.

  • Sound too quick?

I'm trying to source the sound of a wolf howl. There are plenty out there but the recurring problem is that I can play the file when I click on it in Safari. When I download it, however, there appears to be no content. The Quick Time player appears on my screen, yet when I click play there's a quick zip from start to finish and no sound. What's going on does anyone know?

Try downloading using the disclosure triangle (far right) and choose "Save as Source" instead of "QuickTime Movie".

  • My pavilion dv7 speakers are not working. neither is the jack for headphones. is it the sound card

The sound was great a couple weeks ago, but now all of a sudden its not even working.  The laptop has been in one place the whole time and was not bumped or anything.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Savethe latest Audio driver.

Go into Control Panel,Programs & Features-uninstall IDT software.Restart the laptop and install using the downloaded file.

  • How can I tell if my iPad 3 is using up the battery too quickly?

I have only used my iPad a few times so far, and the battery isn't down to zero, but I still worry that that battery isn't holding its charge because it seems that every time I look up @ the battery indicator it has gone down a point or two, something I don't notice with any other device. Roughly how much power should it lose in an hour of light use, i.e. not streaming videos??? Should the percent go down a point or two every few minutes?
    Thanks.
    Nervous New iPad Owner

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Pavilion d6 with Beats Audio and Windows 7: the Sound Stops When Headphones are Removed

The sound works fine, then I put in headphones and usually the sound plays fine, though sometimes it stops working after making a repeating sound for a second.  When I remove the headphones the sound will not come out of the speakers and if I plus the headphones back in no sound comes out.  The only way I can get the sound to work again is to restart my computer.
If I run the sound troubleshooter it doesnt detect a problem.  I tried the fix in this thread http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio/Beats-audio-pavilion-dv6-No-sound/td-p/2169..., but that didn't work.  I would really appreciate a solution, thanks a ton!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When done, shut down the notebook by holding down the left Shift key as you click on Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 20 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers/HP' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
    Regards,

  • The sound doesn't work

I updated to Yosemite recently. Everything was fine until I used my headphone to listen so something. When I removed my headphones, I discover the sound sound won't work now. I will only work with headphones. What happened? and what do I need to do to fix it? Thanks

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

  • What do i do if my (a.) my itunes no longer detects my ipod, and (b.) no sound comes out of the headphone jack? The ipod still turns on, operates, and charges.

My ipod still works as far as powering up and operating is concerned, but it suddenly stopped outputting a signal through the sound jack. Also it no longer is detected by itunes in the source list.

It would be odd if both of those problems happened at the same time, since they seem unrelated (unless you dropped the iPod or got it wet or had some other accident).
Check the other end of both of those connections first.  Try a different set of headphones.  Try a different docking cable.  Try a different USB port.  Make sure the computer has been restarted since having this problem.
If it still powers up to the main screen, and seems to play songs (although you can't hear them), that probably means the hard drive is still working.  That's good, because it's the most valuable part, and the part that usually breaks first (on an iPod that has a hard drive).
If you can't get it working, you might consider getting a broken iPod on eBay.  Chances are good that it is broken because of a bad hard drive (unless the description makes it clear that it's another problem), and the other parts (except maybe the battery) are likely to be OK.  You can then swap its bad hard drive for your iPod's hard drive.  Be sure to get the same type of iPod, including the thickness, because the 5th gen iPod came in two thicknesses (corresponding to the thickness/capacity of the hard drive mechanism).
This is one web site with instructions for disassembly
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
But don't spend too much money on it.  The hard drive may appear to be working now, but you never know when it might fail.

  • Headphone sound too loud - how to get very fine volume control in osx

I could not use my headphones on my new MBP, because the sound was always too loud, even on the smallest setting. It appears that lots of other people have similar problems, so here is a way to fix this:
To get very fine sound volume control I use soundflower fromhttp://code.google.com/p/soundflower/. You have to restart after installing it. Then go to preferences/sound/output and choose soundflower(2ch). Start soundflower from the applications folder, click on the flower symbol in the top pannel and soundflower(2ch) built in output. Then go to Audio setup and change the master for soundflower(2ch). This way you can get the global sound less loud or you can amplify it.
Hope this helps a few people

    You saved my life (and my ears) ! Thank you marcel-sl for sharing this (;
    Prety cool software if you have an USB headset too loud. Now, I can use F11 and F12 (;

Spend at least $350 on headphones. The problem is not the quality of the output from the device, it's expecting a pair of $29 headphones to perform above and beyond what they were designed for.

Problem: I lost the option to get the sound from external speakers or headphones to upgrade to Lion 10.7.3. It accepts only internal speakers.  I downloaded  Combo directly , without using "Actualización de software". I followed all the advice from the Apple community.  Can I use bluetooth speakers to solve this problem?  My Computer: iMac. 20-inch, Early 2008. Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

You may need to reset PRAM/NVRAM.
First, check that the jack is clean. Put some alcohol on a plug and insert it a few times. See if that helps.
is your output both digital and analog? If digital, is the red laser light visible in the socket? Do not look directly into the socket when checking.
If all else fails try a PRAM reset:
    Reset your computer’s PRAM
A small amount of your computer’s memory, called “parameter random-access memory” or PRAM, stores certain settings in a location that Mac OS X can access quickly. The particular settings that are stored depend on your type of Mac and the types of devices connected to it. The settings include your designated startup disk, display resolution, speaker volume, and other information.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
DO NOT HOLD These keys beyond the second startup sound!
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
