Headphone / Sound Issues Mac Book Pro

Sometimes when I unplug or plug in my headphones the sound stops working completely on my Mac Book Pro.
It only starts working again when I restart.
When I restart it sometimes but not always comes up with the message that the iTunes volume is right down. Even though it wasn't when I pressed restart.

You can expect the sound to be interrupted in some cases, especially if you're using a longer cable. Usually, if you wait a while, the sound will return when your MBP detect the signal. You shouldn't have to wait for a reboot to fix things.
What's happening is that your MBP is trying analyze whether to use the input or output. It seems it's taking too long, Go to System Preferences/Sound/Output; "Headphones" should be listed when your phones are attached. For "Input," make sure it's set to "Internal Microphone."
Or, as a test, plug in a pair of earbuds instead of a headphone.
Post with your results.

  • Headphones and my Mac book pro

Does anyone know when I unplug my headphones from my mac book pro I no longer have sound?  Thanks

Look inside the audio output port and see if there is a red light.  If so, the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the headphone jack a few times in order to trip the switch.  You may also jiggle a toothpick, or the like inside the port.
If there is no red light, you might try a PRAM reset:

  • Sound on mac book pro

the sound output sound on my computer is shut off and the headphone adapter outlet is lit up red how can i fix this?
i have already checked system preferences but its told me i should take my computer in. also, every time i open system preferences folder to sound blue tooth pops up and says "continue using headset"

Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

I have not heard of this problem, and have been here for a while. I have three MacBook Airs (2012, 2011, 2010). All running Mountain Lion.
I rarely use caps lock, but use "shift'.

  • My sound is not working anymore on my mac book pro

My sound on my mac book pro is not working at all anymore. I used it in the morning and it worked just fine and i came back at night and my sound was gone. I checked my output settings, raised the volume up all the way, made sure that i wasn't on mute, everything... Even when i plug my headphones in it doesnt work...
    Any ideas???

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • I am getting no signal to my dj mixer using m-audio firewire audiophile sound card connected to my mac book pro using Traktor Dj software can anyone help?

I am getting no signal to my dj mixer using m-audio firewire audiophile sound card connected to my mac book pro using Traktor Dj software can anyone help?
The firewire port reads the dj software and I can hear music playing through the sound card when I plug my headphones into it but there is no signal to the hardware (my dj mixer).
I have reset the firewire by turning off my mac book pro for a few hours and can see the sound card device in the fire wire section after clicking on the apple icon on the top left corner of my mac.
My dj mixer works on another mac computer with the same soundcard and different firewire cable.
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks
    Wayne

    kmiddlet88,
yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

  • I have had my mac-book pro for almost a year, and have just got OSX Mavericks, and now the sound on my laptop is working in a sporadic way, can I change this at all on system preferences or will I have to get it repaired?

On my mac-book pro the sound isnt working after I have installed OSX Mavericks, should I take it to be repaired, or can I do something on System Preferences?

In addition to checking system preferences/sound/output and selecting built in if that does not work, make sure volume is up and mute not checked.
You can try the following, Take a set of headphones and plug theim in and out several times (there is a micro switch that sometimes gets stuck)
Go to applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, see if you can select built in there, make sure volume is uo mute not checked.
    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
Power off, power back on holding the following keys   OPTION + COMMAND + P + R
Continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times, then release, reboot

  • Mac book pro 2010 stange issue..

hi there I have a mac book pro 2010 and have an issue, the computer appears to be running fine in most ways but key board wont illimuminate anymore and it says I have 0 percent battery level and yet it stays running while plugged, also the cd drive wont take cds...I tried the smc reset nothing happend... can anyone help?!?!

It sounds like your charger cord is not charging, but still powering the computer.   The problem could be either the charger cord itself or the power supply unit inside the computer.  Do you have an amber light on the mag-safe detector when it is supposed to be charging?   The easiest way to check is if you have another power cord that can be plugged into the computer.  If you don't, your next best option is to take it into an Apple store and the Genius Bar.  They can determine in a few seconds what the problem is.  The same thing happened to my 2010 MBP.  I was convinced that the charger cord was working fine and that they would have to replace the motherboard.   The Genius bar found that it was indeed the charger and replaced it at their expense.

After updating my mac book pro to the osx yosemite.am getting some issues after starting up.as soon as it gets on the destop the screen start blinking and i cant do anything. Please help me!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Why ismy mac book pro making a beeping sound every few minutes?

My mac book pro 13" is making a strange sound evefy few minutes.  It sounds like a rock being dropped in a pond. I replaced a faulty hard drive recently and I wonder if it is related to that issue.

A rock being dropped in a pond is not a beeping sound. Which one is it?

Is there a red light coming from the headphone socket ? If so it's got 'stuck' in Digital Audio mode.
Try inserting and removing a headphone jack while wigglingit a bit - inside the socket is a small switch that can tell the difference between an analogue plug and a Toslink (digital) one - sounds like the switch is stuck in the wrong position ...
