Headphone/speaker switching issues

I know the issue of switching between headphones and speakers has been discussed but I did not see a final resolution posted. I also cannot believe I can't figure this out on my own. Ultimately, I would like to have one set up to hear music from gb, itunes, idrum on speakers or headphones without having to change sw settings. Here are the details:
iMac G5, OSX 10.3.9 with tascam us122 (usb) interface, mid-grade altec lansing speakers with mini stereo plug (currently plugged into the iMac). I have the us122 set as the input and output device in gb and monitor recording through headphones (plugged into the us122), When I want to mix (or show off my latest ditty to my wife) I have to go to gb prefs and switch the output device. Takes all of 12 seconds but a pain, none-the-less. I tried hooking the speakers to the line out (2 stereo rca jacks)on the us 122, but only got sound out of 1 speaker. (bad mini-stereo to rca adaptor?)
C'est possible? Thoughts?

I tried hooking the speakers to the line out (2 stereo rca jacks)on the us 122, but only got sound out of 1 speaker.
Try switching the RCA plugs. Did the same one speaker play, or did the other side play?

  • X-fi fatal1ty headphone/speaker switch

    Hi.
When I first installed the fatalty, I could plug in my headphones and it would automaticaly switch to headphone mode. Now it doesn't, it stays in 5. speaker mode? I have made no changes that I am aware of and the automaticaly enable headphone mode is checked.. anyone got any ideas?
    thanks

Maybe your auto switch option got disabled? If you have the Vol control panel running in your system tray click it then select Audio Consol option. One of the tabs in the next window is for headphone setting of Autoenable headphones and Auto mute speakers. Gi've a look there and see if that got unchecked somehow.

  • Headphone/mic/speakerpone issue

Before I send in my new phone (now 3 weeks old) for a refurb, I'd like to know if it's actually going to help.  Has anyone run into the situation below, if if so, what did you do?
I use my speakerphone regularly for work.  A week ago my phone started switching from speakerphone to the ear piece.  I would switch the speakerphone on and anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute later, it would happen again.  It happened around once a day.  A minor annoyance, but I could deal with it. A few days later and ever since, though, my phone started dropping calls any time I was on the ear piece.  i.e., neither myself or the remote party could hear one another.  After 20-30 seconds, one of use assumed the other was gone and would hang up and redial.
I started looking online for speakerphone/ear piece issues thinking maybe it was hardware.  In one forum, I find hints of it being related to the headphone jack.  (I listen to music a lot in the car using the headphone jack into the stereo, so I thought it could be the issue.)  After reading more descriptions of the headphone issues, I tried some things to see if I was having the same issue.  When the ear piece "mutes", I can hit the speakerphone button and the remote party and I can hear each other.  It lasts 5 seconds to a minute, then silence again as the speakerphone switched off.  This is with the phone in my hand or lying on the table.  I'm not bumping the button.  I press the speakerphone again, once again the remote party and I can hear each other.
So, I started searching more for the issue.  Based on what I've read and tested, it's definitely a headphone jack sensing issue.  If I plug in headphones with a mic, I can hear and talk with no issue.  If I unplug them, the phone uses the ear piece for a few seconds, then back to headphones (even though I have not plugged them back in to the phone).
From what I've read, this has happened for a while and with multiple Samsung phones.  All Verizon has offered me is to send out a refurb phone.  In fact, they have said *no one* has reported a similar issue.  Given the dozens of accounts of this, even a few in these forums, I find that hard to believe.  However, I've read some users have gone through as many as 4 Nexus phones with no fix to this issue.  Some held out for 4.0.4 thinking it would fix it.  It has not.  Some are holding out for JB, though there are people with (deleted content to comply with VZW ToS) phones (running the unofficial release from Google) saying it does not fix the issue.  I have a BT headset, but even it is trumped by the phone thinking the headset is in place.  The only way I can even partially use the phone at this point is to use the "Wired Headset Routing Fix" app.  The fact that there's an app to force your phone to ignore the headset is telling.  Using this app, I'm able to make calls the majority of the time.  When I call out, it always works, using the ear piece the entire call.  When people call in, the headphones try to answer, a quick speakerphone then ear piece switch will fix it in some cases.  Almost like I have to prod the app into working.
Two things I've noticed, one is that the problem is worse when on a 3G connection than 4G.  Leads me to think it *could* be related to radios.  Two is that after a few times of this happening, the phone becomes unstable, grinds to a halt, and reboots.
I've tried a lot of things on my own since the VZW solution is to just send out a refurb.  I've tried gently plugging and unplugging a headset.  I've tried canned air.  I've tried removing the battery and SIM card.  I've tried a factory reset (which was painful as I *just* got the phone set up how I like it when this started).  I'm to the point of extreme frustration as I essentially have a really expensive, small, Android tablet now.   I take care of my phones and use them as long as possible before trading up to the latest.  (Came from Sprint where I had a stock HTC Evo for 3 years with no issues whatsoever.  Switched to Verizon as there are no Sprint towers where I just moved.)
Thoughts?  I'm leaning toward the refurb, but I don't want to be sending the phone back every month for a new one.  Is there anything else to try?  Should I hold out for JB?  Do I demand something other than a Nexus.  (Other than the stability issues, I *love* this phone.)
    Thanks!

I have this problem to with my iPhone 5 and iOS 8.0.2.  I also have the problem in iOS 8.1 but it is more intermittent.  Furthermore, when the call ends, the podcast (that's all I listen to lately) is at the new volume setting, even though the call's volume was unchanged.
Getting the call at maximum volume and not being able to reduce the volume is potentially hazardous, especially if on top of all that, the caller is shouting.

    Hi,
As a further test to identify whether this is a hardware or software issue, try the following.
    1.  Create a bootable Ubuntu CD - a guide on creating an Ubuntu CD and the download can be found Here.
    2.  When created, follow the guide on the link below to Try Ubuntu.
    http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install
The 'Try Ubuntu' option runs the OS from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  It will be slow running from a CD but let me know if you get audio.

  • A1330n front panel connections - mic, headphones, speaker

    I have a hp1330n desktop computer
I am updating the motherboard to an ASUS p8H61-M LX plus
The front panel connections for start, reset, hd activity, etc. all work fine when plugged into the 10-1 connector on the asus motherboard
I am trying to figure out if / how I can connect the front panel 4 pin connector for the mic, headphone, speaker that use to be plugged into the 1AUX_IN1 connector on the old motherboard that shipped originally with the a1330n.
There is a 4 pin speaker out connection available on the asus motherboard - +5V, GND, GND, Speaker out, but not sure if I can connect the 4 pin wire coming from the front panel - white, blue, green, red wires (with some modifications) into these available 4 pins.
Or do I just forego this functionality after the upgrade and leave the plug dangling in the case?

I found this, I guess it is compatible with the azalia connections: http://forum.thermaltake.com/files/audioconnector_307.jpg
But I have one more question... looking at the end of the card, which pin is pin ? top left?

  • Working around a dead headphone/speaker connector

The headphone/speaker connector on our PowerMac G4-500 (AGP) seems to have worn out. There's no sound when I insert the plug to the speakers that we've always used, nor when I insert the plug to some headphones. But when there's no plug in the connector, sound comes from the built-in speaker.
The connector has had many insertions and withdrawals this year, while I futzed with a replacement video card that had intermittent problems.
I could pay a shop to replace the connector, but don't want the down-time involved.
Is there either an add-in PCI card, or a USB device, that can be used to replace the built-in headphone connector? A seamless solution would have a 3-contact Sony-type headphone connector.

Sorry, the mic and headphones plugs were swapped.

  • Fireworks CS3 Program Switching Issue

In the office we have 3 machines using Fireworks CS3 (part of Studio CS3). All the machines are experiencing the issue I am about to describe. Each machine is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram. All 3 machines are using Windows Vista.
We all had the old Vista Aero problem with brushes, and we quickly overcame this by using the "disable desktop composition" fix.
However, one problem we have never been able to solve occurs when switching between ANY application and Fireworks. There is a delay of at least 20-30 seconds (sometimes more) when trying to swap back to Fireworks. We have being doing various Google & Adobe forum searches regularly over the past 2+ years, looking in vein for a fix, but as yet have still not managed to find a solution or even a record of someone else with the same issue (mainly because out searches are dominated with the old "disable desktop composition" fix). We assumed it was a problem fundemental to CS3 yet still hold out hope for a solution.
Normally it's not a problem, but when working on websites which involve a lot of graphics edits and/or switching in and out of Fireworks it can quickly add a very frustrating hour or more to a job.
Recently, I was forced to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 7, and transfered my old CS3 install to the new machine. I was surprised to find that I can switch in and out of Fireworks instantly, much to the frustration of the other guys in the office who are unfortunately stuck with Vista for the time being.
Is there a fix for this horrible switching delay on Vista and has anyone else here even sufered with the same issue?
TL:DR - This is not the desktop composition problem with brushes which seems to domnate results when we try to search for a fix, this is a very noticable delay when swapping in and out of Fireworks.

I'm affraid that didn't help. It actually slowed down the inital launch of the program and it took around 5 minutes for Fireworks to finally start. Once started the program switching issue was still present

  • Inspiron 620 power switch issue.

The description I found for the problem I'm having seems like the power switch issue. I took the switch out and used an ohm meter to test it. It's good. Now What?

I have a Sapphire R7 260X and found that it did not support DOS VESA Bios video modes.
This meant that It does not display anything on a VGA monitor and booted to an F12 Bios menu that said ERROR unable to set vesa video mode 103.  This meant that F2 CMOS setup was unavailable EVER with this card.
When I called them they said they don't support DOS or Vesa Extensions.
I ended up using an EVGA Geforce 750 TI SC instead.

  • Nexus-switches issues no arp-requests.

    Hallo all,
I see a very strange behavior on my two nexus switches.
Both are Nexus 5548 with L3-daughter-cards. Both do l2 and l3-switching, ACL-filtering and other things. Furthermore I have a set of servers connected to both switches in a vPC-setup. All in all I do nothing special.
After reloading the primary switch (vpc-primary, root-bridge for all vlans and hsrp-active with preemption for all SVIs) the switche comes back online and after getting up all links and reconverging everthing the network breaks. After a lot of debugging and curses and connection tries and a few additional gray hairs later I have got it to work by pinging all ip-addresses from the switch that I have previously rebooted.
Later I do some tests to find out what was going wrong. I found out that if I clear the arp-cache I will get the same issue. Pinging from server A in one subnet to server B in another subnet doesn't lead to success, because the switch issues no arp-requests. To make it work just ping server B from the switch and all works fine. The switch does arp, the arp-table is updated and the pings from the server A will reach the server B.
    Any ideas?
    Regards
    Thomas

  • Headphones / internal speakers switching issues

This is an issue that has been coming up on these boards for several years - I wanted to add my personal solution.
Occasionally, when I take a headphone or speaker jack out of the socket, my PB does not switch back to internal speakers. As some people have suggested, putting the headphone jack back in and out a few times usually helps. If you don't have one handy do this - gently but sharply blow into the headphone jack socket (use a compressed air can if you have one!). I did this with the system prefs pane open on sound and saw the output source instantly change back to internal speakers.
This is a work around rather than a solution, but it's low tech and it works for me! Suggests that the sensor that allows the PB to determine whether headphones are in or not is too sensitive, or not releasing, or something.

maybe try creating new user in Accounts preference, log in as new user and see how it works.
if it works under new user, could be software issue.

I have a problem with the microphone as well, if i'm on a call and i try to hold my phone between my shoulder and ear in order to multitask, the person on the other end hears only garbled words and makes it impossible to not hold phone normally, I believe it's due to the pressure on the mic. Spoke to Sony about this and tried a complete reset of phone with no success. Was going to send it in to Sony for repairs, but they offer no loaner devices so I sent it in to Rogers as it's only 2 weeks old and under full warranty. Waiting to see what comes of it. Will repost upon return of phone.

  • No auto-switch headphones - speak

Any got a clue why the X-Fi software/drivers no longer switch between headphones/2. mode?
I am using a HD-Audio compatible frontpanel with an extreme gamer x-fi. although having all the checkboxes ticked (detect headphones, mute speakers, sync with control panel) it stays at 2. mode when plugging in the headphones.
It used to work but now something seems to interfere with it. It still mutes the 2. speakers but it does not change the profile to 'headphones'.

I've managed to get this working now, without requiring a separate 5Ghz network name - I reset my Time Capsule to defaults and went through the setup wizard again, then turned wifi off the on on my MacBook Air and it now connects at the fastest available speed. Happy Days!

i have the evga 680i mobo as well as the creative xfi soundcard. i have been unable so far to get the mic on my headset recognized in windows, but the headphones (i have a sennheiser headset that has a mic and headphones, each with their own stereo cable) are working properly when plugged into the front panel on my lian li case. i have the 680i's onboard realtek sound disabled, so i am not expecting to be able to use the mic through that. here's my problem:
i want the creative xfi to handle the all sound for my computer, but annoyingly enough, there aren't enough slots on the card itself for both speakers and headphones, which is quite an oversite on creative's part imo, forcing me to switch between plugging in either my headphones or 4. speakers. am i missing something here, or is it impossible for me to have both my 4. klipsch speakers (2 stereo cables), my headphones ( cable, which seems to need to share the line out with of the klipsch speaker cables), and my mic ( stereo cable) all plugged into my xfi card at the same time?
if so, bad move creative. you guys must know that lots of gamers use headsets, and that many headsets now have both mics and headphones, which requires 2 stereo cables. if i want to use the mic, and i do (for both work and gaming), then there is no way i can plug the mic on it into the creative card and then plug the headphones on the front of the computer.
i bought all my components on newegg at the same time, so i had no way of knowing this would happen.
    anyone have any advice?
    thanks
my headphone cable isn't long enough to allow me to plug into the front panel while the mic cable is plugged into my creative soundcard.
the mic will however sctetch from the the back of the mobo to the soundcard outputs, but it looks like on the 680i that only the front headphone plug in works if the 680i isn't the default sound setting.

I am dying to get home and tinker with my X-fi extreme gamer, so I can get the front audio mic jack to work with my Sennheiser PC 5's. My case is a Coolermaster Ammo 533 with the front audio jack having the choices of AC'97, HD, and a bunch of loose Azalia wires for FP audio hookup. I hooked up the HD jack to the card pins, and looking at various "pinouts" from Creative and Coolermaster the specs match up. I hear audio (and it rocks!) and I also set it up to mute back speakers & use CMSS?under "headphone detection" and that works, but I just can't get the mic to record or register. (It registered on my old Audigy Platinum with 5 /4 I/O bay, so it can't be the headset, unless the soundcard fried my mic. I just wish selecting the functions of "flexi jack" or "mic" in weren't so @#$% confusing. (Should I be choosing "mic", "line", or "wave" for it to detect?) I'm guessing the OBVIOUS "mic". Who knows? I'll be tinkering, drinking, and cursing it at some time tonight! I have a wife and toddler, so I have very little time to screw around with PC issues, let alone a hundred dollar soundcard one!!!Message Edited by Blister972 on 05-4-200704:04 PM
