Headphone volume control malfunction

hello everyone I'm from the Philippines and I just want to know if there are guys out there whose having the same problem as i have with my ipod 3rd gen. shuffle, i bought my shuffle just last month and i use this with my daily walk and all of a sudden the volume went down and the volume control on the remote of the headphone is not responding. Can anyone also from the Philippines help me where can i go to have it repaired, replaced or what to do i really appreciate it thanks.

I'm on my third set of 3G Shuffle headphones, too. At first, I was leery of buying a product that relies completely on another cheaper component to operate. It's like when they stopped putting fast forward and rewind buttons on VCRs and universal remotes weren't $6 at Walgreens. Lose the remote and you're VCR is basically a "play only" item. And this is the same thing. Except Apple wants $30 if your lousy headphones break. The first time my Shuffle acted up, I thought the buttons had just broken inside the controller as it felt more spongy and less "clicky." Apple store swapped them. The second pair quit working after a week. I realized it must have something due to sweat in the controller because I run with the shuffle hanging upside down- so it would be next to impossible for moisture to get inside the jack. I've been running and working out with various iPods for years and sweat has never been an issue. Here's a fact: humans sweat. Shuffle is small to make it portable. So people can take it with them when they walk, run, exercise. But it's obvious Shuffle isn't designed for those things. I knew I was taking a risk buying a product that depended on a cheaper remote to operate. I just expected it to last longer than a month or two. And now it appears we're all stuck in an endless line at the genius bar. Hey Apple: just issue a recall on the 3G Shuffle so we can get our money back and move on to something else that actually works- you can afford it. Or just redesign the headphones and let us swap these for ones that don't fail when they come into contact with the human body. How bout it?

  • Lumia 520 stuck on headphones volume control

I was using my nokia lumia 520 to listen to radio with headphones. When unplugged headphones the volume control stayed on headphones so cant change volume on phone for ringtones and music on games/facebook posts etc.Anyone else had thissame problem?

Hi, I have tried taking the headphone out of the socket, taken out battery a number of times, and even the sim card but still nothing. I'm wary of resetting the phone because last December I had a software update and lost all my contacts/games. Got contacts back a month later (just appeared). Is there anything else I can do? Spoke to person in EE shop and they just said 'could send it away'!!

  • IPhone 4 volume setting is stuck on headphones volume control and am unable to hear out of speaker on phone.

Volume for headphones is only volume that will go up or down except I don't have my headphones attached to my phone and cannot hear out of speaker on phone when I call or receive a call.

sounds like it's stuck in headset mode

  • Headphones and Speakers don't have different volume controls. Headphones same volume as speakers.

Under the volume mixer, it shows "Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). Everytime I plug in my headphones after listening to the speakers a bit loudly, the headphones still have the same volume as the speakers did, making the headphones blare very loudly. I want to figure out how to separate the speakers and headphones' volume control so that when I plug in my headphones, it'll have a different, lower volume than the speakers did (my desktop computer does that). Please help, thank you.

Hello...I have the same question...How the IDT Audio Control Setting can be configured to allow independent volume control setup between normal speakers and independent dual headphones? The setup is very confusing as there must be a way otherwise why it is called independent and the icons show up in that fashion,,,, may be HP customer support would like to explain..Hope to get an answer..Thanks..

  • Audigy 4 pro headphone volume cont

    Hello,
I really can't seem to find the HEADPHONE VOLUME CONTROL......
On the package and on the creative site it says there's a headphone connection with volume control on the external box. I really can't find one, only a mic/line-in volume control and a master volume control. There is no seperate volume control for the headphoe output is there?
I lower teh volume of my headphone output, not my speakers, so if anyone knows where the headphone volume control is (as creative says there is) please let me know!

From another post, you have plugged your headphones into the line out for the speakers.
I darsay that as you have speculated on the other post, the sound card things that the headphones are part of the speaker syste and not headphones at all, hence the volume control issue.

  • Volume control not working after I plug in speakers or headphones

When I turn on my 13 inch with Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or if I restart it, my volume works perfectly. However, whenever I plug in earphones or speakers the volume will be 'stuck' on the loudest it can go. When I use the volume controls on my keyboard or the slider at the top menu bar, it will make the clicking sound as if the volume is going up or down and will show the white speaker with the volume being adjusted but the volume will stay on the loudest possible setting. Even after I unplug my speakers/headphones the volume will continue to not work. There is no red light coming from the headphone jack and since it works upon startup, I'm inclined to think it's a software issue and not a hardware issue but then again, I don't know the first thing about computers. Since this has started, I've looked online for similar problems or suggestions but nobody has had this exact same issue, but I did follow the suggestions for similar issues. I repaired the disk (I could only do it for the Macintosh but I am running bootcamp with windows on the other side but I've used it maybe once for a pc only program and have never run the internet on it so I doubt the problem is coming from that side). It repaired a bunch of stuff but it didn't fix my issue. I also reset the PRAM and the NVRAM (I don't know what this does, but someone suggested it so I gave it a shot) and it did nothing. If you have a suggestion for something I can do, please be detailed, or point me to detailed instructions because my computer knowledge is very limited but I'm willing to work to fix this. Thank you!

Make an appointment at the Genius bar at the Apple store.
    Ciao.

I also tried resetting settings all to no avail ...I looked up some advice and watched utube video advice on how to fix without success..
The volume control button on side does not work ,I got the iPad last August and wonder if it is a fault that means I must return it for replacement from where it was purchased ?

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

  • Volume control not working when speakers/headphones plugged in.

When my external speakers or headphones are plugged into the back of my iMac, the volume control won't work. A "no sound" icon appears and the volume slider will not move. When I unplug speakers or headphones everything goes back to normal. All updates are current. My "Audio MIDI Setup" says, "Audio Output....Output Not Supported." Repairing disc permissions was run too. Any ideas?

    Hi Paul
    *First off:*
Open System Preferences > Sound and select the Output tab. Now plug in your external speakers or headphones, do you see the Device Name change from Internal Speakers to Headphones?
    *If nothing:*
Then try another Account, preferably your Admin. Account if your logged into another.
    *Still nothing:*
Check the settings in other third party Audio programs you may have installed?
    *If still nothing:*

Take it in for service and have it checked for a hardware problem.

  • Lenovo Miix 2 8" - Separating volume controls for headphones and speakers

The sound options for the Miix 2 out the box combine the volume control for internal speakers and for headphone jack, i.e. there is only one volume control for both the speakers and the headphones on the mixer settings at the the volume icon at the lower right hand of the desktop.  So when headphones are plugged in, there is still only a "speakers" control shown.
I work in an office and would like to have the speakers muted if the headphones are pulled out.
Similar issues resolved on other devices directed to install an alternate sound driver (that offered separate controls) or pointed to some other settings in the sound driver properties menus where this could be manually done, but I'm having trouble applying any of them to this device.

Worked beautifully! Thank you very much!!

Tried it reverting to an older version of Skype.  Didn't work.
But!  I believe I may have found the solution.
Here are the steps I took to solve the issue:
    1. Right click on the audio volume control icon -> Playback devices.  The Sound window and Playback tab should be open.
    2. Set Speakers/HP as both the Default Device and the Default Communications Device.
    3. Go to Skype>Tools>Audio Settings.  Set Speakers settings to: Speakers/HP (IDT High Audio Definition CODEC).
Hopefully this will work for anyone else who has the same or a similar problem.

  • Headphone sound too loud - how to get very fine volume control in osx

I could not use my headphones on my new MBP, because the sound was always too loud, even on the smallest setting. It appears that lots of other people have similar problems, so here is a way to fix this:
To get very fine sound volume control I use soundflower fromhttp://code.google.com/p/soundflower/. You have to restart after installing it. Then go to preferences/sound/output and choose soundflower(2ch). Start soundflower from the applications folder, click on the flower symbol in the top pannel and soundflower(2ch) built in output. Then go to Audio setup and change the master for soundflower(2ch). This way you can get the global sound less loud or you can amplify it.
Hope this helps a few people

    You saved my life (and my ears) ! Thank you marcel-sl for sharing this (;
    Prety cool software if you have an USB headset too loud. Now, I can use F11 and F12 (;

  • Every time I plug in my headphones into my Macbook Pro, my volume control buttons don't work.

Every time I plug in my headphones into my Macbook Pro, my volume control buttons don't work. Even after I unplug my headphones they don't work, they get stuck on the level of volume it was at when I plugged in the headphones. I can control the volume if I go to system preferences and do it that way, but that is such a pain. Also, in order to get the buttons to work again I have to completely restart my computer which is also a pain! What should I do, or can do, to fix the problem?

  • Headphone Jack and volume control

I have very sensitive headphones and the volume control on the MBP is a bit squirrelly: I plug in the headphones, use Fn+f11 to change the volume to my usual setting (just one tick), go to iTunes to play some tunes and then the loudness is jacked up to the middle setting (which is the setting I use when I use the headphone as a line out hooked up to my stereo). Suffice it to say, my ears are a bit mad at me right now.
Is this a known issue, and how does one post a SW bug to get Apple Support? I tired looking for a file a bug, but I couldn't find it.

    dallen33 wrote:
Why should I come to grips with this? My Windows 7 install on this very MacBook Pro handles volume just fine. I can have my speakers at 50%. Plug in my headphones. Still at 50%, but not deafening.
This is obviously either a) by design or b) a bug. I'll be submitting it to Apple as b.
Many people actually complain about a LACK of volume when using their Macs under windows, dallen33.
The headphone port on the Mac is a "dumb" port. It can't determine the impedance and efficiency of whatever you happen to be plugging into it at the time. If it was "intelligent" it would probably require Apple specific headphones, which would have everyone up in arms about trade restrictions and the like. If it was configured to provide a muted maximum output level suitable for headphones that produce the maximum possible volume then there would be thousands with lower efficiency headphones, including some with very high quality ones, complaining that the sound was too quiet (just as some do about the Windows output level) !
Surely this stuff is pretty easy for people to sort out for themselves. If you have headphones that produce a high output level then turn down the volume slider in iTunes right down before you stick 'em in your ears and then gradually adjust the volume upwards until it is at the level you would like!! If you do this you will find that the volume starts at zero even if the system setting is at maximum.
Alternatively, buy yourselves some high quality, lower efficiency headphones.
    Cheers

  • Mavericks has disabled volume control for mouse and headphones

Since updating to Mavericks, my mouse (Mad Catz MMO7) has lost the ability to control volume (all other features like mission control still work). Also my Bose QC 15 headphones lost the ability to control volume as well. Is there some kind of accessability option that needs to be enabled or is this just a bug?

Sometimes my Volume controls will stop working and I'll have to chill for a second, then try to move the volume (with my keyboard) in the opposite direction I was just trying to go on my mouse, and after a few tries, it'll work. Try that.
