Headphones Compatibility

I bought a set of 3-button headphones for Android devices that work fine on every other Android device I tried, but not on the Xperia z3. Spoke to the manufacturer and after some back-and-forth, the representative I was dealing with was surprised to learn that the Z3 has a 5-ring jack, which made the phone incompatible with the headphones. As such, by putting in the noise-cancelling functionality, Sony likely made all third-party earphones with 3-button controls incompatible. Funny thing is that the volume controls work perfectly, but the middle button doesn't, so the phone DEFINITELY has the functionality.
1) Does anyone know of ANY 3-button control non-blueray earphones that work on the Xperia Z3? Hard to tell, for example, if the Sony MH1CWH have three buttons. Also, I don't see Xperia Z3 listed as a "compatible" device for those earphones. Can anyone confirm?
2) Are there any other earphones that use the new noise-cancellation feature other than the MDR-NC31EM, which don't have ANY headphone controls?

Sorry... Wrong MODEL - it should read MDR NC31E below.

Apologies for the length, but I'm posting this in the hopes that people may find it useful. Hopefully others can avoid finding a good set of headphones for the Xperia z3 through trial and error as I am currently forced to do due to lack of sufficient information on the net...
I received the MDR-NC31E headphones a couple of days ago after ordering them online, and am actually listening to them as I write this. My thoughts so far:
 - Noise cancellation feature is not as good as some of the bigger over-the-ear headphones I tried, but nonetheless, you can definitely hear it as soon as you hit the "on" button. The phone gives you three options for the type of environment you are listening in (e.g. office, bus/train, etc.). As far as I can tell, this determines how aggressive the noise cancellation algorithm is. It's also pretty cool that the phone recognizes the earphones immediately and pops-up the Noise Cancellation menu in your notifications.
- The earphones do not have ANY controls... This is somewhat disappointing, especially since according to the single picture diagram in the instruction booklet, the microphones in the actual earphones used for the noise cancellation feature can also be used as microphones for making calls.
- Using the microphones situated in the actual ear pieces to make calls didn't seem to work that well thus far. I had complaints from the people that I phoned about the background noise, although this also happens from time to time with other headsets with microphones. I had more positive results when I took one ear piece out of my ear and put it closer to my mouth. This is less than ideal if you are looking for a "hands free" headset. I will run some more tests when I have a few different headsets handy and provide an update on the microphone feature if one is warranted.
- This reminds me about the instructions booklet: basically it just says to go online in order to find out more about your product in several different languages... rather poor. Then again, how much information can you provide on earphones with no controls?
- I am currently running experiments to determine how much the noise cancellation feature kills the battery. So far, it seems that it does drain a battery a bit faster, but for me it hasn't been to the point where it would make a HUGE difference, in regular day-to-day use. I will provide an update if one is warranted after running a few more "controlled" experiments.
- Headphones are a bit on the "cluncky" side, and not the best option for sports (jogging, etc.)
- Headphones did not work in some other devices that I tried (e.g. iPhone 5) - sound came out only from side. I suspect this is due to the 5-ring connectors on the headset not aligning properly with the 4-ring connectors on a "typical" 3.5mm CTIA headphone jack found in all other phones currently.
Overall, the noise cancellation is quite an interesting feature and I actually like having it on while working in the office, for example.. It's really a shame that Sony has just one model with this feature, which is completely without ANY controls and rather sub-par in other categories. Because of this, I am only able to really wear them in settings where I know I won't need to make a call (e.g. office, where I have my work phone), and i have my hands free to use the phone.
in short, the noise cancellation function COULD have been quite a good step forward. However, putting in this function at the expense of a) headset controls, b) a microphone that is positioned well for making calls, and c) compatibility with the rest of the industry, is rather more like 2 steps back rather than one step forward for me (i.e. +1 - 3 = -2 in the end...).Bottom line, for me, these are absolutely PERFECT for listening to in the office while I work, but that's about it.

  • Standard headphone compatibility with BB 8330?

I've not been able to get standard headphones to work with my BB 8330.
I pulled out my old original headphones that came with the BB, and they work okay.
Is there a compatibility issue with standard headphones?
If so, where can I get headphones that will work with the 8330?
Is there any work-around for this?
    Thanks.

  • Ipod replacement program: headphones ' compatibility

    Hello,
I partecipated to the IPod nano replacement program and Friday I received the new IPod (only the IPod, without headphones and the USB device): it's a 6G ipod nano touch. Little problem: the headphones of my old 1g ipod nano don't work with the new ipod. Is this problem common to other partecipants of the replacement programs?
    Thank you in advance!

The headphone jack on the 6th generation Nano is very tight when new. Push the one you have now firmly all the way in, make sure the white plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the Nano.

I would not know why not, but I have neither the 920 (use a 620) nor the MDR 1R headset (use SOny earbuds or a set of MDR V700 cans which sound just fine to me

  • Headphone compatibility

I recently lost the ear bud headphones that came with my treo 700wx. I bought new ones and they don't play in stereo...only mono. Someone told me there is a download available that will fix this problem. Any help is appreciated.
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Verizon)

The headphones may not be compatible. Some after market headsets do not have a long enough plug to make full contact with the connectors in the headset jack.
You should purchase the Palm branded headsets or get the adapter for Palm devices.

  • N8 Compatable headphones?

.........i am currently using my old express music headphones on my N8, but older music files (pre-1998) are not loud at all. So if i listen to older music whilst in walking in town, all i can hear is cars going past.
So anyone that can help me with the below, would be brilliant!!!
    1) Are the SOL REPUBLIC V8 / V10 compatable with the N8? (compatable = remote & mic functions work)
    2) Any other recommendations for headphones which include the functions: remote control, mic, ambient noise cancelling........All help very gratefully received!

p.s. i'm not made of money (who is?), so nothing too extravagant please?

    Tinman73,
For #2 selection, I advise getting the WH-701 in-ear headset. It is usually bundled with the Nokia N8, by the way.
    Key Features
    High quality stereo audio
    Call keys: answer/end, voice dial
Music keys: play, pause, next track, previous track
    Volume up/down
    Integrated microphone
Three sets of soft ear pads
    Tangle-free flat cable
    3.5 mm Nokia AV connector
    More info here: http://press.nokia.com/wp-content/uploads/mediaplugin/doc/nokia-stereo-headset-wh-701-datasheet.pdf
For the availability, you may try to check a Nokia Care Centre or a reputable Nokia retailer. I reckon this retails around $20-30 (depends from region) as we speak.

  • HP Envy Headset jack compatibility with stereo headphones equipped with 3 ring plug

    Hello.
As you know, new HP Envy laptops are equipped with just single audio jack (TRRS type). In "Maintenance and Service Guide" this one is mentioned as "Audio-in (mono microphone)/audio out (stereo headphone) combo jack".
So if I connect my stereo headphones that are equipped with 3-pin plug (TRS type) directly to this Combo Headset jack will these get recognized by system as stereo headphones (not as headset)? Can stereo headphones with 3-pin plug cause any damage to laptop hardware if connected?
What is confusing me is that in User Guide one can read following Note:
"Be sure that the device cable has a 4-conductor connector that supports both audio-out (headphone) and audio-in (microphone)".

    Hi Misuser8,
The manual does support a 4-conductor connector. After some research I have read that the 3 will work with no complications.
    I hope this helps.

  • Headphone/Earbud Compatibility Quest

    Hello,
I have a MuVo N200 that I inherited when my son upgraded his MP3 player. I want to upgrade the existing clip-on-the ear type earphones.
How do I find out what head/ear phones or earbuds are compatible with this MP3 player? Is it possible all can be dri'ven by this model?
    Thank you for your time,
    patmac

    JK23,
I could either use earbud or standard headphone ( light weight, but ones that clamp well to the ear ) types.
I have used the standard over the head headphones in the past, for instance at the gym, but I needed to wear a baseball cap to keep them closed to my ears to keep the ambient sound out. Possibly the earbud style would be better for me. Sorry, but I don't have a lot of experience like this. I need them, whatever style to be lightweight/portable.
I don't imagine I would want to spend more than $30 on them, $20 or less if possible.
The ones I'm using now came with the MuVo originally, and there's a reason the kids gave them to Dad...they aren't that great. They are the kind that hook around/behind your ear, and pretty much never really get seated in the ear.
I know this is still alittle ambiguous, but I only have experience with the ones I have now, and the over the head ones with my old Discman. Hope this helps alittle in helping me out.
Thanks for your response and time,
    patmac

  • For 1/11/11 expert day: can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers

HP Pavilion dv6135nr Notebook internal speakers have stopped working.  I can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers.  A search on HP customer care for my notebook yielded the download recommendation below, even though I had not stated my problem.  However, executing this download did NOT resolve the problem.  Please advise regarding resolution to inoperable speakers.  I do not know if all of my sound and audio settings are correct, but the mute is not on and the volume controls are properly set.  The default device is Conexant High Definition Audio output, per the sound and audio devices properties hardware  tab the device status states "this device is working properly."  Is it possible that a Skype or Foxfire update is in conflict with this device?  If so, how do I resolve this situation?
    Thank you.
Description: This package contains the driver for the Conexant High Definition Audio Chip.
PURPOSE: Routine Details and specifications File name:

Re: Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged.
HOW DO YOU FIX THIS?? I cannot find the correct Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio that works with my computer...
    My computer:
    VISTA
    HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC
Everytime I use my headphones for more than an hour or two, the **bleep** audio will not play on my notebook's speakers, just through the headphones. Usually restarting a few times resolves the problem, but not this time. If I knew that HP computers sucked this much I would never have spent so much money on this one!!!
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem once and for all? Thanks!!

  • Windows 7 on my iMac won't play sounds through headphones

On Windows 7, I can't make sounds play through my headphones plugged into the audio jack; the internal speakers always do it instead. The headphones don't appear in the "Playback devices" column, even though RealTek recognises that something's been plugged in/unplugged to it.
Also, the latest version of Boot Camp software drivers I burned to a DVD after upgrading to Lion (v.4.0) refuses to start; it keeps saying that 'Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"; I was able to install the v.3.0 drivers by using "Troubleshoot compatability" within the Drivers/Apple/BootCampx64 before, but now it insists I use setup.exe- which refuses to install, even in compatability mode!
It's incredibly aggravating, since I always use my good headphones for gaming so I don't disturb my wife! Help!

So the Bootcamp 4.0 drivers won't work with my 2008 iMac? I'm running 3.3 then, and the problem persists.
I've just tried uninstalling the RealTek drivers; Windows seems to auto-install a "High Definition Audio Device" that DOES play sounds through the headphones... albeit incredibly quietly. Barely perceptible at full volume. I've tried to install the Cirrus drivers from the 4.0 Bootcamp disk; they claim to install correctly (in less than a second, which makes me skeptical), but they still don't appear.
It seems I can have Realtek and no headphones, or no Realtek and minimal sound...

  • Smart connect not working with headphones

smart connect app has stopped working with headphones, have tried emptying data and also restored the phone to factory settings, but still nothing with any pair of headphones, I have installed the soundabout app and all headphones are working with that, so wondering if it is a software problem rather than the headphone jack that is the problem, any advice please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You tried a factory reset - Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so backup what you need 1st - This is not the same as a factory reset but will achieve the same outcome
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP
