When in system preferences/sound/output do you see the headphones there? If so select them.
Try plugging the headphones in and out several times (there is a micro switch that can get stuck)
Try toggling the volume keys while plugging them in.
Try restarting with them plugged
Trya pram reset: with nothing connected
Power off, power back on holding the following keys:
OPTION COMMAND P R
continue to hold till you hear the start chime 2 times then release, rebbot.
If still no joy take it back to the Apple store, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to swap for another machine, or a refund, or have them fix it. Take full advantage of your warranty.

I have an iMac 8.1, OSX 10.6.8, Boot Camp 3.2 running Windows XP. My original keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged by a water spill. I ordered a new one from the Apple Store. They sent me MB110LL/B, function keys need updated drivers (Boot Camp 3.3) which will only install if Windows 7 is installed. I have a large amount of older software that runs under XP but not Windows 7. The Apple support team basically said "too bad". If they replace a keboard model with a new model, they should at least make it backwards compatable or provide a Boot Camp update that will allow this model to work on older iMacs. Reloading Bootcamp 3.3 several times has no effect because it does not detect Windows 7. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.
It is free. It is beta. It works well - I use it on mine and two PCs as well...
MS Security Essentials will no longer install due to compatibiliity issues - that is the idea of a beta - and the RC could be out in June.
Windows 7 doesn't work great on any Mac, or Apple drivers, fan cvontrol to manage heat, and other issues.
Put 8 in and get to know it, then when the RC comes out you'll be ready -
I have an Apple Trackpad that shows that it is connected with Bluetooth but it is not responding. I've tried restarting the computer, disconnecting and reconnecting and also turning the trackpad on and off but it simply does not respond. Does anyone have any idea on what is going on here?
There are reports of similar behavour but generally it is due to battery connections. Is the indicator light working steadily or does it blink or even not function. Here is the Apple document dealing with some of the problems.

Is your machine within the guarantee period or under Apple care. If so, return it to any apple retailer for examination and possible replacement. -
Media sharing on fcpx 10.1.4 not working : DSPPUBLISHING ERROR -29 : any idea ?
I use IMAC 27' with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and FCP X 10.1.4 : I want to share a short piece of movie ( of 7 mn) I created. Whether it is to create an Image disc or to engrave a DVD , this fail at around 66% of the sharing process with the error : DSPPUBLISHING ERROR -29. Somebody has any idea ?

If so, then SES will now be communicating by ajp13 protocol, and will be expected to be called from Application Server (AS). As it says in that section:
"At this point, to access the Oracle SES middle tier you need to go through the Oracle HTTP Server. In other words, for the Oracle SES URLs you now have to use the host and port of the Oracle HTTP Server. The original URLs are no longer accessible."
The URL that works now will be something like
http://asserver:80/search/query ( or just http://assserver/search/query )
You can check this by editing $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_SEARCH/config/http-web-site.xml and changing "protocol=ajp13" back to "protocol=http". Run "searchctl restart" and SES should now be accessible from the original URL. Don't forget to change it back! -
I am Trying to update my 4s to ios8 not working properly.. Any ideas?
My phone said it could do he ios8 uodate and now my phone will not work at all(Tells me to connect to itunes) tried to do a factory reset and so far still not working. I have been trying to fix this all day..
Try the update again. I received the invalid signature message when I updated to 10.5.1, but re-trying sorted it out. I might have had to re-start my computer, I can't remember now.

My ipod touch seems to have a few issues, however my pre-installed and updated imessage and facetime were literally working last night, and after a breif break to charge battery (the back of the ipod was SUPER HOT) wasn't able to do facetime or imessage, and am STILL NOT today, what gives?? Any suggestions and advice?.
Found the answer, at least for now! Thanks to roryjt, and having to search through tons of post on imessage and facetime issues! Changed the DNS on my ipod for my wireless network to 8.8.8.8 Not sure if it will work outside of my wireless network, but since its an ipod, not an iphone, I usually only use it in my place/on my network. ITouch Apps not working on new 32G - any suggestions?

Son has same problem with 32G iTouch he got for Christmas, was working fine til today. Now when he trys to open the apps it opens for 1 sec then goes back to screen. Can see on various sites lots of similar problems. Have tired reseting, and syncing and also authorising computer, deselecting apps then re-selecting and then syncing again, all to no avail and is now driving me mental. It was a very expensive gift NOT to work. Any other suggestions welcome.I had this before and I finally figured it out. On the apps icon, there might be a number. that number is the amount of updates for your apps that you have downloaded. The apps have to be kept up to date by allowing the apps program to run. so select apps icon and then select update. that should be all you have to do. That was the answer for me. sorry such a late reply, hope it can help

Trying to learn the app store and new stand and how to download magazines on my iPad. Thought I downloaded a free weekly magazine but it is not coming weekly. What are the steps to do this. It said it was free.
Did you subscribe to the magazine? Many of the magazine apps are listed as free (for the app that lets you read the magazine) but requires you to subscribe. The subscription may be a paid subscription that you have to purchase.
Read the fine print under the magazine's app requirements. -

Have you checked the brower preferences to make sure the plug-in is enabled? It appears maybe you have. -
My Render is not working in CC 2014- any ideas?
Just installed CC 2014 and I can't render at all. All of the usual shortcuts and even using the Menu bar won't render the timeline.
I was able to render using In and Out markers and then Rendering from Menu bar.

I just upgraded from my 2008 MacBook to a new Macbook Pro. How do I get my time capsule to work on my new MacBook? I did data migration, but the time capsule did not pick it up. Any ideas?
If you migrated all the info from time machine to your new MBP. The TM will usually ask to connect to the old backups.. sorry I am not sure is this what you want to do.. Personally I think you start a fresh backup.
BTW Time Capsule does not do anything.. it is a dumb hard disk in a box.. it is TM that does everything.

I have an old iphone and have a new one as well. I would like to use my old on as an ipod but itunes not longer recognizes it. Any ideas? I have been using it for a month with no problems until tonight. I restarted my computer..still no fix.
Looks like its fixed. I am syncing it now. A lot of the answers are for the new iphone so i had to mess with a bunch of settings as well. My old phone is now an 8 gig ipod. the books app no longer works and that *****.....but better than nothing...

my ipad with retina eye updated to IOs 7 not able to boot ....the normal way of pressing the sleep/wake button and the home button does'nt work....any ideas i think that IOs 7 is a crap cos form the time i loaded it it was shaky...now my ipad is dead
If it is one year old minus one day it is still under warranty. If it is more than a year since you purchased it then yes, the warranty has expired.
Millions of iPads have been sold. Most continue to function long after their warranty has expired. Check the many requests about updating the iOS on the original iPad on these forums and you'll see that there are many iPads still working after three years. My iPad 2, which I had for over two years is still working well for my son in law who took it over from me when I bought a new one.
Given that there will always be a few iPads that fail early. Most of those will be covered under warranty. But some will fail after the warranty has expired and before the owner expected it to. I'm sorry to hear that you are in this category. Take your iPad to an Apple store and have it looked at. They will provide you with alternatives, one of which is to purchase a like model to the one that failed at a discount. You can then know your options and make the best choice for you. -
My iPad would not complete the back up to iCloud. The suggestion re: resetting the iPad did not work. Are there any other ideas?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
