Headpone Jack - Optical Software Glitch?

Help-
I have a Macbook with the intel core duo. 4 GB of RAM.
Context.
Computer is used as a media server. Stereo is connected via an optical link from the headphone jack to an external digital to audio converter. Music is stored on external 1 TB My book. Computer is left on and idle for extended periods of time.
Problem:
As the computer is left idle, the trackpad/mouse become increasingly unresponsive. Eventually they stop responding all together. Un-responsive means they jump and can not be maneuvered around the screen in smooth movements. System fan begins to run as this problem gets worse and system monitor indicates memory continuing to be consumed despite no applications running other than startup apps. ---*When the optical jack is removed from the headphone jack this problem disappears*--- and the system returns to normal.
Please help. I specifically purchased the macbook to serve as the platform for this media server and leaving it running for extended periods of time with no use is normal for me. Having the computer lock up because I have the optical headphone jack plugged in is unsat.
Thanks -

i've had this happen on a couple of occasions, and like you it was specifically when the appletv was changing back from 5.1 to stereo.
I haven't had this for quite a while though (and never at all on v3.x), and when I did have it I was only using HDMI (so no optical connection).

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • Display brightness software glitch on the Samsung Intensity

I discovered a somewhat annoying software glitch on my Samsung Intensity.  When you increase the backlight brightness and set it, then decrease it, the backlight duration changes to 7 seconds by itself.  It does not change the duration setting when you increase the brightness and set it.  Please fix this glitch in the software update.

I can certainly understand how this glitch can be frustrating for you.  I did some research in the resources that I have and this is not a reported issue.  Can you please tell me what software version you are running?
You can find that by following these steps:
From the main screen, press Menu.
Scroll to Settings & Tools, press OK
Scroll to Phone Info, press OK.
Scroll to SW/HW Version, press OK.
Please repost so I can trouble shoot further.  Thank you.

  • Headphone Jack optical light on mystery

So this is weird.  I thought I'd run it by the communities to see what comes up.
I have a 2007 MacBook - suddenly the digital output kicked on and won't turn off.  Red light coming out of the headphone jack and no internal speaker controls indicate that the micro switch inside the jack is toggled.  So I play and play with it and can't get it to come off.  Finally I just pull the logic board and solder a new headphone jack in.  Computer passes ASD, and BOOT CHIMES, but shortly after power on and boot to OS X the light comes back on (in a new jack, remember) and we are right back where we started.
So I tried Safe Mode, which of course disable audio controls
I tried SMC reset, EFI reset, clean install of OS X (it does the same thing when booting from a installer disc or any other OS X System volume)
    Not a clue.
Is it possible that this is some funky board failure?
I guess it's possible, but the headphone jack works fine when plugged in, and as stated I get a boot chime at power on so something else is going on.

Below is a response I posted a couple of months ago.
The red light is optical(digital) audio output, so you won't hear any sound and digital output by it's nature, does not allow volume control.
This seems to be a somewhat common problem with the alu Macbooks.
One of the fixes posted here is gently inserting a toothpick and slightly pushing/moving it around to see if the jack connection will switch back to analog speaker output. I would also try using several 1/8" jacks (headphones, speakers...etc) and see if plugging and unplugging them causes the jack to switch back. It's a mechanical fault and there's been enough of these problems that Apple mght do something about it.

  • Loading images in browser causes JACK device to glitch/get stuck

    Hi,
I'currently setting up my laptop for audio production.
My Problem: any 'graphical operation', that is, clicking on a dropdown menu etc, is
    a) slow. even if there is nothing else running, there's a very high latency when clicking, say, Firefox' 'file' menu
    b) causes audible sound glitches (NOT xruns in jack, the xrun count doesn't increase).
The sound glitches are not recoreded (seemingly) but very unnverving. If i don't click anything,
    there are no noises ...
I tried the proprietary nvidia driver, but that seemed even slower.
My CPU is already running at maximum (performance governor)
    Anyone got a hint ?
    System Details:
    Core2Due (x86_64) / nvidia (using nouveau) / awesome-wm / 3.2.17-rt28 kernel
    Audio Details:
    Echo Audiofire 4 / ffado / ardour2 / jack 1.9.8 (8.7ms latency setting)

Never, ever got this prolem w/ ubuntu (on same hardware) ... any advice ?
Config is same as above but newer kernel (3.4.4), tried everal kernels (rt etc) doesn't really seem to matter ...

  • Forum software glitch using id numbers

Last night I posted a reply to someone's question and I noticed that the forum was going
through a phase where it was ignoring people's nicknames and just using id numbers. So the forum software posted the
answer under my id number not my nickname. Then today I see it went back to nicknames.
When it converts to nicknames, the messages sent under the id number become invisible.
The poster would have to go in via the control panel to see the original posting as one way
to find such a message. I just thought I'd mention it that some messages were possibly effectively lost.

  • Constant Software Glitches

Okay, so i'm stuck in a little bit of a dilemma. I bought the iPhone 4S 16GB AT&T back on October 29th instead of the iPhone 5 (It wasn't available at ALL and AT&T had a 4 week waiting list and I was a bit impatient since I needed a new one for work ASAP).
About a month ago (January), very, very, strange glitches started happening with my iPhone, both with the software and the hardware! My phone has constantly told me that it's overheated when it clearly hadn't been since I wouldn't have used it or it would've been lying on my desktop for several minutes. I have also had several apps CONSTANTLY crash, even the default Apple apps installed on the phone. Just recently, it bricked on it's own and I've never fiddled around with it. I had to completely restore it in DFU mode and everything! And now it's constantly freezing and my sleep and home buttons have been becoming less reponsive.
So far, I have had to restore my iPhone 4S 12 TIMES since the beginning of January!!! It is now running iOS 6.1 and i'm STILL experiencing the same issues I had with iOS 6.0 and 6.0.1!
All my restores have been clean installs, set up as new iPhone, and installed everything from scratch. But, my main concern is my contract termination fee since I might have to return it to get it fixed or replaced?
What should I do since my contract is NOWHERE near to being up? I don't want to pay several hundred dollars to terminate the contract and still pay for a new phone!
Should I take the phone to Apple or AT&T and explain the situation and mention I would've purchased the 5 if there wasn't a waiting list? Or should I just deal with the hassle?
    What would happen?
Would I receive a replacement iPhone 4S or could I haggle down the price of an iPhone 5, or even convince them to give me one for free? Is it possible for them to waive or dismiss a termination fee because the phone is extremely unstable and practically unusable on a regular basis?
I've never had a problem with any Apple products, coming from a proud owner of 2 iPads (1st gen and 3rd gen), a MacBook (2011), iMac (2012), and numerous iPods over the years. I've never had to deal with anything like this from Apple or any other phone for that matter!
Yet what's been happening is really starting to get on my nerves! I'm starting to lose hope in this! If I can't get this fixed, i'm seriously considering switching to a Galaxy S III, because i've always trusted Apple and i've always had great customer support and service, but this is just ridiculous and utterly dissapointing! I will gladly pay the money to switch if I cannot get this situation resolved, because i'm just frustrated!
Can anybody help me please? Anything would be greatly appreciated! I really love Apple's products, but I really don't want to have to switch because I love the iPhone and Apple.

galleherjazz, a little research would tell you a lot.  Palm sold the rights to Palm Desktop years ago to a company called "Access" from Japan.  It was their responsibility to come up with a version of Palm Desktop that works with Vista.  They produced one version, then updated it to 6.2.2 to fix some bugs.  After that, they abandoned the project!  Palm Inc. moved on to a wholly new operating system (webOS).
"Palm programmers" had nothing to do with the decisions made.   Access' version came with no color categorization.  Pleas for improvements and bug fixes have fallen on deaf ears.
Palm Inc. appears to have no interest in supporting Windows 7 with their legacy (read: discontinued) devices.   Any hope for 64-bit USB compatibility appears to be gone.

  • Software glitch

Downloaded new iTunes and iPod nano software yesterday. There is a bug/glitch one the iPod in the songs lists where first letters (usually capitals) are missing.
Can't find or link to any direct Apple support for this.
Anyone else seen this / know a fix?

    Hi  WillHaston,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum.
If the update process was interrupted and the Lumia will not complete a startup please visit a Nokia Care Point where the device software can be rewritten. By doing so however all personal data on the phone will be lost.
When you set up the phone again all contact and calendar data will be synced back when you create the used accounts again in Settings>email+accounts. Previously installed apps can be easily re-installed by downloading the app Reinstaller from  marketplace. When downloading previously paid apps just select the BUY option and Marketplace will recognize these apps have been bought and allows you to install again. Unfortunately all text messages in the messaging hub will be lost.
    Hope this helps,

  • Xperia L software glitch

My Xperia L was working just fine. I updated the android to the latest 4.1.2 build number 15.0.A.2.17 a few days after which i started experiencing this problem.
Whenever a call is connected, the back key doesnt work. Also the tabs key beside the home key disappears. This happens after i wake the screen using the lock button while the call is still connected. I have to use the home key which brings me back to the home screen but when i select any option from a list, it doesnt respond. It works fine as soon as the call is disconnected.
I did a factory reset which set it right for a few days but now the glitch is back.
Please tell me what to do. It's a brand new phone.

  • Hardware or trackpad software glitch?

I've been going crazy after upgrading my Macbook to one of the new aluminum ones where it seems to "ignore" my clicks. I've found several other posts in this forum about it - and am trying to figure out if this is that same issue, or a hardware problem where I should exchange my machine.
It seems it misses around every 5-6 clicks, but the cursor always works and will move around fine. I've tried clicking with my fingertips - but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I also tried changing the tracking speed as recommended in another thread - but it also didn't make any difference.
Any tests anyone knows to determine if this is the common problem or something else? Would you "hang tight" with my otherwise perfect laptop - or try trading it?
    Thanks for opinions,
    Scott

Boot from your system install DVD and play with it there. If it's OK, then the problem is most likely software.

  • 2.1 Software Glitches?

I've had nothing but a great experience with my iTouch up until recently and so can only attribute these new problems to the recent 2.1 software upgrade.
Now, when listening to music, the playing stops itself. If I hit play again the iPod will resume the song but only for varying lengths of time as it will eventually (and most definitely) again stop on it's own accord.
And my PowerBook G4 now goes to sleep when the iPod is recharging it's battery. Previously the USB connection would prevent this.
The only troubleshooting I've tried is restoring it to original settings, but both problems are reoccuring.
Can anyone offer any advice? Or perhaps a little sympathy?
    I'd welcome both~

I would have it exchanged out if it bothers you, my fiance exchanged hers out because when she put it in her case it would switch to silent and then she would miss calls. So far together we have exchanged out like three phones for the same problem. Two were very loose when switched, and the other was so stiff that it broke my fiances nail off when trying to switch it over. So if it bothers you exchange it, you paid the money for it you deserve a phone that has no problems. By the way both me and my fiance have both black 16G. If the store wont exchange it call apple support and ask for customer relations.

  • Display software glitch? random colored squares appearing on interface

    Hi -
I've never seen anything like this.  There are numerous small squares displaying on the OS (desktop, dock and icons).   There's very little rhyme or reason to the patterning.  They are there upon starting the computer and remain in place until shut down.  On restart, they take on a different arrangement, but they stay in the new arrangement until another shut down.  Super bizarre.
I CAN capture them with a screenshot:
Any ideas?  This is a MacBook Pro 8,2 running 10.6.8, software-updated.  I ran AHT but nothing the matter on the hardware side (corroborated by the fact that they appear in screenshots)...
I'm going to run a few more diagnostics and then probably upgrade to Yosemite - but it would be nice to know if this has been seen before.

By thousands, if not tens of thousands of users. I have the same model as you, and since I'm still under AppleCare, I had my logic board replaced by Apple: and that 'fix' solved my problem for a year now. But others haven't been as lucky - expired warranty and having to replace up to 3-4 logic boards. Others have also had a 'BGA reball' which has worked for some, not all, though.
Take a look across the thread started in February of 2013 and see if you've problems similar to the ones you've posted -> 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card.
If so, look at the few options. I know that mine will fail again one day and I'll then decide whether to reball or not.
    Good luck,

  • Strange Software Glitch With Bluetooth

Okay, this is hardly a big deal but thought someone at apple would want to know... if I am in my car and I go to email search and begin typing in the search box, the car's bluetooth activates and thinks I am having a phone conversation. When I click out of the search box the call "hangs up." I do not use a bluetooth headset so I do not know if it has a similar effect there.
PS Apologies if someone has already posted on this subject. I did not find it when I did a search.
PPS No, I do not email when I am driving but noticed it when I was in the parking lot waiting for someone.

Got it now. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Sorry to be so dense.
Now, I do some DivX compression and most Projects are over that Duration. To date, I've never seen a problem with them, nor have I heard of any client having this issue. Though I might have missed it, especially if my Sequence looked good in PrPro and then my DVD looked good. I might have shipped the DivX with similar glitches, but would think that one client would have yelled at me, if I had the same thing. Have not done any H.264 compression yet, but will now keep an eye out.
I am assuming that you're using the DivX Corp's Pro encoder to do the compression to that CODEC. I do know that they have a couple of newer versions, than what I've got. You might want to check your version numbers against what is being offered on their site. If you're using some other program to do the compression, you might want to try the DivX Corp's encoder. That would still not explain why/how you get this in both encoding schemes though. Just thinking aloud.
Good luck, and if I run across similar, especially if there is a fix, or a workaround, I'll post to this thread.

  • Blackberry desktop software glitch?!

    Hello my name is ashley,
I am not the brightest when it comes to smartphones because this is my first one!! (And I am actually very pleased with it.)but I have on teensy problem.  On the blackberry desktop software, in my media tab, it shows all the playlists from my iTunes, and in my "recently added" section, it will not update my recent downloads that I made. I have restarted my computer many times plus UN-installed the software then reinstalled it and it STILL will NOT show my recent music downloads. Now, before this happened, around over three weeks ago my bold 9900 nuked, so I sent it back to rim and just got it back around a week and a half ago.(I don't know if this could be part of the problem.) It worked fine until Yesturday (12/30/2011) and before my BB got nuked. I really need help!! Sorry if my details are all over the place, I'm just kindof frustrated. So thank you in advance!
I also feel very bad for my mom because she bought this phone ( while on a contract ) and I do not want her to keep paying for a phone that is horrible.

I'm facing with the same problem after upgrading my software to 7. when i tried to downgrade it it give's me te same error again and again with every BB device i connect!
