Headset jack display and sound problem

I had some issues getting an external microphone to work, but resolved that. Now when I go to plug any headset in, the display that normally "pops" up on my screen indicating that I just plugged it in is gone. Additionally, the external speakers still play and nothing comes through the headset. I've tried playing with the sound controls, (enable, disable), and end up having to reboot the computer for my external speakers to work again. But still can't get my headset to work when plugged in and external speakers to stop at the same time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Pavilion dv6700 with Vista.

Hello, since nobdy else has replied...
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • Display and camera problems... related?

Dear Folks of Apple Support Communities.
Recently i have started to experience a rather disturbing issues with my screen, and that made me remember of the problems with the camera.
I have MBP retina early 2013 and. well, it is known fact that screens on this particular model are not exactly brilliant... The same could be said about the camera, which has simply tuns of blue noise! But the screen was acting pretty Ok for some time now, there always was a minor image retention, but as i had nowhere to fix this, i had to live with it. But recently the screen started to turn GREEN! Yes that emerald shade, almost like cartoon green!!! That happened to it once before, but was not so intense, well at least i was able to see something... But the other day i was completely blown away, when i turned on my mac and i sew bright-bright green screen with absolutely no picture... Why does this happen to a £2000 product i have no clue! Now it has an uneven colour (the bottom corners are blueish, and the sides are somewhat darker).
Is there some way to resolve it? Or should i ask for the screen replacement (and the camera with it as well)?
I will be in Glasgow starting from september, so i will have an Apple store near by... i just don't want this to happen anymore, it is really scary.
    Many thanks . Anna.

You should not be having those type of problems on a brand new Mac.  Did you call AppleCare about this?  If not why not?
You have 90 days of free phone tech support from Apple on top of your one year warranty.  Strongly suggest that you use it before you lose it!  You already missed your 14 day from the date of purchase to return your MBP for a refund or an exchange.

  • MBP 13'' Display and Screen Problems.

    HELP!
I've posted about this problem before, and I've read all the threads, but my problem is not resolved despite sending my new MBP back to Apple to sort it out. They fitted a new logic board, but it has made no difference. My machine is still under warranty.
The MBP continues to totally freeze when connected to an external projector via the mini port using VGA. The computer screen goes a funny blue-ish color with everything out of focus and the pointer freezes, too. It has also started to make a funny buzzing noise, too. I have to restart the entire machine, which is not very convenient right in the middle of using it. It is an intermittent problem. Sometimes, the machine is working OK for a few days, other days it crashes several times.
I have read that this may be something to do with 32 bit versus 64 bit Kernel start up. Some suggest resetting the PRAM and system manager, but I'm still struggling. Does anyone know what the real issue is? A solution would be great.
By the way, I am resorting to using my old MBP (Nov 2006 15" model) and it works perfectly still, no matter what projector it is connected to. It is frustrating the **** out of me as I bought the 13'' to have more power and RAM and it is easier to lug about the place, but I can't use it as I need to connect it up to various projectors at work.
Any expert out there? I'd really appreciate a solution to this problem. Is it only confined to the MBP 13", or has the 15" got similar problems? From the threads, I can tell this has been a big issue for people using their computers in conjunction with a projector.

  • Blue Screen and Sound Problems, In Desperate Need of Assistance

About a week and a half ago, my computer officially stopped showing anything on the display when I tried to start it up. It had been doing it on and off for a long time, but I would eventually get it to display. Not this time...
My husband and I took our 30" Cinema Display and G5 tower to the iStore. The display was tested, and it worked fine. The associate said the problem was the video card.
After doing much research, I decided upon the flashed GeForce 7800 GS, per the suggestions of japamac on this forum. After I received and installed it, the display worked again and everything seemed great! It came with a CD with a patch on it, saying it was for *10.4.9 or later*, so I installed the patch and ran the permissions command. I had to go on a business trip immediately as the permissions command was running, so I left the computer to do it's thing, knowing it would sleep after a while.
When I got back home from my trip, I eagerly hopped on my computer. I attempted to awake it from sleep, however it froze. I was not able to tell if the permissions command ever finished completely.
I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine. A few hours later, my husband hopped on the computer about to test the new card on a game, but it froze before he could do anything. We restarted the computer, and that's when the blue screen issue started.
I tried resetting the PRAM, starting it up on the install disc (which didn't work), I tried holding down the S key (which also didn't work), and I tried holding down shift for Safe Boot.
The Safe Boot works, in fact I'm on my G5 right now. I did the permissions command again, thinking that it must've not ran all of the way and the permissions were broken. When it finished it gave me a massive list of "permissions differ"s with 10 "Warning: SUID file "____" has been modified and will not be repaired" messages at the end.
I contacted the seller on ebay, who ended up telling me the patch was only for Tiger, despite the file saying "or later". I really thought I messed up the permissions badly from that and tried running the permissions repair, but that did not help.
Thinking I had no other choice, I backed everything up and I reinstalled Leopard (choosing to Archive). After it finished reinstalling, the computer restarted and it booted up normally. I thought my problem was solved! However, once I let it sleep and came back later, it was frozen. I restarted and had the blue screen problem all over again, to my disappointment.
I tried restarting, the PRAM, the permissions (which did not list those SUID warnings anymore)... There was once that I restarted and it gave me the blue screen, I tabbed twice, hit enter, and entered my password though I couldn't see anything. I heard the computer moving like it was logging in. I pushed the power button on my display, and magically the screen displayed my desktop with the "Are you sure you want to put your computer to sleep?" window.
However, this only happened once, and afterward I noticed an issue when I tried to wake the computer from sleep. It would try to wake up, then go back to sleep, try to wake up, go back to sleep... So I contacted the ebay seller again, explaining what had happened and that it made me think it is an issue with the card itself, not permissions. (Fearing that if it is permissions, I would have to reinstall the OS again, but choose to erase the disk this time.) I asked if the seller knew anything about this.
The seller contacted me back saying, "Hello again, yes, wake from sleep is a common issue of many modified cards for Mac , so you better turn it off if you are not use it, its better for both the video card and power supply of your G5,
hope you understand about it , thanks". Well, that really would have been nice to know in advance... but regardless, the more important issue is the blue screen on startup.
On top of all of this, when I tried to watch a video tonight I noticed the sound was not working. I made sure it wasn't muted, I made sure the optical cable was connected, nothing. I restarted, nothing. I did not have any problems whatsoever with the sound before this, and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the card (I wouldn't think so), or that something needs to be reinstalled since I reinstalled the OS. The System Prefs > Sound, Is not finding any devices.
I've restarted the computer so many times since the initial failing of the video card, I really hope all of the restarting hasn't damaged anything. As old as my Mac is, it's been working perfectly normally until the graphics card went out. After that, it's seemed like everything is falling apart. Thank you for reading my long history of difficulties, and I hope someone (maybe japamac?) can help me!

    Hi-
I understand why you would suspect the latest hardware addition, and the conflicting/misunderstood advice given by the seller isn't helping.
I don't know of any cards that have "known" issues with sleep from the flashed realm.
Of the 10 different makes and models that I use or have used, flashed by myself or others, I have never seen an issue with sleep.
This includes 2 different Geforce 7800 GS cards.
The most common reason for a blue screen at boot is an incompatible Login or Startup item.
These are disabled during a Safe Mode boot.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/startupitems.html
As for the Geforce 7800 GS, there was a patch for OS 10.4.9 only. This was to allow for the proper reporting and use of the appropriate OpenGL engine.
After 10.4.11, and in Leopard, the OpenGL engine is properly selected for the card.
Since this is simply a reporting issue, and not a performance issue, the patch is not a mandatory thing.
There is an issue with the ROMs used in some Geforce cards that causes a boot delay (a blue screen) for up to 6 minutes.
Most guys don't use those ROMs anymore, but I guess that someone may not have bothered to get the new ROM.
Removing the AppleHWSensor.kext from /System/Library/Extensions will correct this issue.
This, however, is historically a G4 issue only.
There are a couple possible scenarios that I think may apply to you:
1- The card is overheating, thus the occasional success or Safe mode only boots.
Check that the fan is spinning.
2- The auxiliary power is not connected, or has a poor connection.
Sometimes the pins on a Molex adapter (the female side) are so tight that they push out, rather than allowing the male pin in.
Conversely, a stretched out female pin would not properly contact the male pins of the graphics card.
Double check connections at the optical drive and at the graphics card.
While inside, reseat the graphics card.
3- If the card was prepared for use in a G4 by cutting the traces of pins #3 and #11, this can cause problems in the G5.
Most cards work fine, but some Geforce cards complain.
As well, if the pins were taped, the tape should be removed for use in a G5.
    http://themacelite.wikidot.com/pins-3-and-11
If the traces are cut, return the card.
If the pins are taped, remove the tape.

  • Satellite L750D - BIOS update 2.1 and sound problem

    Hello
I have little problem. I have been downloaded from your website BIOS 2.1 for Toshiba Satellite L750D (PSK32E).
I have been updated BIOS to 2.1 and start problem with sound. When I start game, music or something other only 2 first minutes sound plays properly but then it stops for no reason. No sound at all. I have been reinstalled op system but the problem is still there.
Sound works for 2 minutes only then is completely off. Every start application with sound plays 2 minutes and stop all quiet is. I have made a probe on my mother laptop its a twin laptop. I have been updated bios same problem 2 minutes and then no sound. My operating system is win 8 pro 64 my mother laptop is with win 7 x64 premium.
Two BIOS updated 2.1 ver on L750D and the problem is same. Please fix BIOS.

The BIOS seems to be very old. I was released nearly 1.5 years ago so to be honest I doubt its and BIOS issue.
I had the similar issue with my other notebook equipped with an Realtek sound card.
The sound appeared again after plugging and removing the headphone jack
But i could solve this installing the newest sound driver update from Realtek driver page.
But it seems that your Satellite does not support Realtek sound chip but Conexant sound chip.
Therefore the solution might not be useful for you.
However, I think you need to update the sound driver.I recommend you to google for Conexant SmartAudio HD driver and to test the newest available driver version.
In internet I could found the Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver version 8.65.9.51 for Win 7/ Win 8 / Win 8.1
Not quite sure if this is the newest version but you can test it.
In order to manually update your driver:
    1. Go to Device Manager (right click on My Computer, choose Manage and then find Device Manager in the left panel)
    2. Right click on the hardware device you wish to update and choose Update Driver Software
    3. Choose to select the location of the new driver manually and browse to the folder where you downloaded the driver

  • Display and Boot Problem with MSI K9NGM2

    I recently purchased a system:
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Core Duo
    - MSI K9NGM2
    - 1 GB Kingston RAM
    - 320 GB Sata seagate
    - Sony DVD RW
    - 450 Watts Power Supply
The very first day I started having problems with my system. Sometimes it never showed a display and if it does it was not able to recognise my hard disk. I have to reboot it several times before it does. I think its the computer who decides when to boot and when not to. I got it checked and the vendor says that everything is fine , although he is also not able to respond to my problem. The Sata cabling and the Ram has also been replaced twice but still the problem persists.
Does anyone have any answer to this problem.

  • Display and Printing Problems

I am using Photoshop CS5 extended on a minimac running 10.7.4. I have the lastest updates from Adobe installed for the Adobe Creative Design Premium Suite 5.5. I am having problems with photos not displaying correcting, but not all the time. This may sound strange. I am working on a project for a client with outside floor samples. The samples have smooth areas along with pitted or valleys patterns in it.  When the photo is displayed in photoshop it displays correctly for a time. I can leave the photo up or I can reopen the same file and the valleys and pits that are suppose to be displayed are now reversed and display as mountains or like a relief type of effect and prints that way too. Hopefully someone else has had a similar problem and can help.
This same problem occurs in Bridge CS5. The photos will display correctly for a short time but then the photos are reversed with the all the valleys pattern showing as mountains. I have deleted the cache, but to no avail. If I change to anothe folder go back to the original sometimes this clears the problem but not for long. So what gives?

Thanks Noel for the reply. Hopefully  this will help.
This is how the file should look like.
This is how the file usually displays.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for an obsolete Apple productivity program. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more appropriate and active forum for your product where you can get help faster.

  • Display and performance problems

Many times cannot power up my laptop the power light and charging light is on fan is working but screen is off I try always remove the battery and press power switch 40 seconds after screen is displayed many times I found this complaint I need a reason
and 2nd complaint is sometimes screen is display only half page wallpaper is perfect but open any applications page only half page I need a perfect replay 3rd complaint is computer is too slow

I'll answer your third complaint first. Without knowing exactly what model laptop you have and exactly what you are trying to do with it there is no way for anyone to have any idea why it's slow. Heck, we can't even tell if it's actually slow, or if you are trying to do something that the laptop isn't capable of doing, or at least doing well.
I have yet been unable to find a definitive answer to why they sometimes don't turn on fully. That's why I posted the procedure to get past the problem. Only Toshiba and the other manufacturers know what the actual problem is, and I haven't seen them post the solution for it anywhere. It is a common problem in all brands and types of computers though, not just Toshiba's and not just laptops. Desktops also have this problem. The best theory I've run across on why it happens is static electricity buildup on the main circuit boards of a computer causing the problem. The procedure I outlined above drains all of that buildup from the system allowing it to boot again, If you have that problem on a regular basis you might want to check into the electricity source you plug into. I've noticed that people who live in mobile homes (with metal outside walls( and people who live in homes with aluminum siding tend to have this problem more than people who live elsewhere. I used to have to disconnect the mobile home I lived in from the power grid a couple of times a year to dissipate the static buildup in the building itself otherwise I had static in my telephone, television, and problems booting like you are experiencing,
Since Toshiba support personnel are prohibited from posting in the forums it's doubtful that you'll be able to to get a definitive answer from them without calling them on the telephone and talking to an actual support person. They don't provide actual support any other way. All we have here are end users like yourself doing what they can to help other end users.
Your second issue about only displaying half page has normally been a display driver issue from my experience. Make sure you have the latest display driver for you specific laptop and see if that helps. If that doesn't, you might need to download and install a display driver direct from Intel, MAD/ATI, or nVidia to see if that corrects the problem. Doing that can be tricky and since you didn't bother to identify your specific laptop there is no way for us to know what display chipset you need.
The only other thing that I can think of is that your video subsystem is failing. Either a loose or faulty internal cable, failing display panel, failing display chipset, or some other portion of the subsystem. You could try connecting to an external display the next time you have an issue to see if that works better or not. Otherwise take it to a certified techinician and have it thoroughly checked out.
Also, check the Product Support Link at the top of this page for your specific model. Check the support bulletins for it to see if they list any issues or fixes that might pertain to your situation and model.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How do I adjust the display and sound with my Macbook Pro connected to my Sony Bravia?

I just bought the DVI - HDMI and then connected my Mac to my 46" Sony Bravia.  It works obviously cause I'm typing right now, but it is so painful to try and read anything less than what appears to be 14 font or so.  The display is set at 1080p obviously because that's the whole point of this, but is there a way to try and make things bigger?  I don't want to sit super close to the TV and fry my eyeballs, that also defeats the purpose of this.  Another question regarding sound.  It seems I can only adjust the sound from my keyboard, but I would rather do it through my TV's volume control so I can make things louder.  Any help would be awesome.  Thanks.

    mcfancher wrote:
Thanks for the reply.  My dumbself forgot that right next to my new TV is my old TV, a 40" Samsung LCD.  Now I put it on my desk and I have it in 1080p and everything is going good except for the fact that I can't see the top bar on my desktop and now the sound seems to be coming exclusively from my Mac instead of my TV, although I still have it hooked up with an HDMI cable.  Any new thoughts?
EDIT:  Ok fixed the display issue, but I'm still getting sound out of my Mac.  Really confused on what to do.  I don't see why I could get audio out of my Sony TV with an HDMI cable but not my Samsung.  Doesn't the same principle apply?  Xbox and PS3 work that way, so pretty confused unless I need to get a digital audio cable or something.

If everything else is the same, that is strange. I have seen a post or two that reported only certain HDMI ports working with computer input, so if the Sammy has another HDMI input, give that a try.

  • Mac Volume and Sound Problem in newly installed Windows

    Hi Friends,
I intalled the Windows 8 Developer Edition using Bootcamp 4.0
My Mac Volume/Hard Disk is not displayed in "My Computer". I read it will display the Volume in read-only mode. Can anyone help in making the Volume show on Windows?
The sound is also not working. Any work-around?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Ragu

You are familiar with beta testing? Ever?
It is ah, "normal" for audio to not work on Mac running Windows until YOU install an audio driver.
    AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys were buggy with Windows 7 3.0 and 3.1
If you want, see what Paragon HFS 9.5 $19 and ask Paragon-Software about whether you can beta test their HFS driver.
Their CampTune 9.5 was just updated to support Lion.
I would also call Lion 7.1 still in the "early" stage and not fully ready - give it a couple updates like every other OS X release - in the 'final candidate+' stage too. The Boot Camp 4 drivers for Windows are better now than they were in July but still some rough spots and things missing.
And there was a firmware update for the MBP just this week, and that model has been through 3-4 minor chip revisions to the motherboards, some of which deas with support and bugs with SATA 3 affecting SSD support.

  • SOLUTION to video and sound problems

I know this seems like a very long process, but it actually doesn't take too long (at least with music videos), and it's well worth having the audio and video ligned up properly. So hope it works for you all, let me know how it goes :)
i know a lot of people around are having problems with the video and audio not being together when using converters with mpg files. i've been trying different settings all day and i've come up with the conclusion that muxed mpg files WILL NOT have the audio in sync no matter what settings you use.
HOWEVER, you can download a small, FREE program VirtualDub (which can be downloaded at http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/). (it requires NO INSTALLATION, which is brilliant)
so, once you've got this program opened:
    1. first put your muxed video into there (drag it or "file>open file")
    2. then go to "video>compression" and select "microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2" and then press "OK".
    3. after that, go to "file>save as AVI", select where you want to save it and then press OK.
NOW you have a non-muxed video file, that you can convert using any of the regular converters (Xillisoft, Videora.. etc.) Personally i use Xillisoft's IPod Video Converter, and ta da, you know have a correctly sync'ed audio and video file compatible with the ipod.
    hope it helps everyone else
    P4   Windows XP Pro
EDIT: oh yeah, and after you have your converted file using Xillisoft or Videora, you can delete the AVI file and keep the original if you want.

hmm.. ok.. well perhaps you might need the codec installed on your computer.. this is strange i thought it was default..
can you try telling me what options you do get in there? and i'll search to see if you can download it.. OR you can try just selecting another one, i think at this point it doesn't really matter which one, as long as you use one, because an uncompressed AVI is absolutly HUGE. so try another one from the list (preferabley one that says 'no known restrictions' i think) and let me know if the sound is still good after youthen convert again using videora or xillisoft

  • Windows 7 and Wireless Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard and sound problem

    Hi,
I just installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my iMac 24" white ( OS X Leopard 10.5 ). Surprisingly, it installed without any problems. The only problems I have now are the Wireless Mighty Mouse and the Wireless Keyboard ( alu ).
After I installed Windows I inserted the Leopard Instal DVD and installed Boot Camp. I got a message right away saying that: "This program has known compatibility issues...". I clicked Run program and continued. Soon I got the same warning, but this time not for Boot Camp, but Intel Chipset Device Software. I clicked Run program yet again and it continued installing. Then I got a different warning: "Service KeyAgent' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I clicked Ignore and installation continued. I got another "Service Mac HAL' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." warning, clicked Ignore again and after that it finished soon and I restarted the computer.
When I came back into Windows there was no Apple folder anywhere or any sign that I have just installed Boot Camp ( should there be? )
I installed Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows XP ( because Vista x64 version wouldn't start ) and basically I got the same warnings I did when I installed Boot Camp from the Leopard DVD ( described above ). I also tried to instal Boot Camp Update 2.2 for Windows, but it didn't start. I also downloaded Bluetooth Update 1.0, but all I got was a message saying: "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed.".
    There is also no sound.
This is basically it, I really hope some of you who run Windows 7 with wireless keyboards and mice can help me, because I desperately need this to work ( I use a Windows only program for school ).
PS. I have a 2007 iMac 24" white and while it is not on the we're-not-supporting-that list for the infamous Windows 7 Boot Camp update, all other iMacs from its generation are. Any ideas?

Found a solution for the "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" message. Here is the link: http://www.techulous.com/hardware/how-to-apple-boot-camp-64-bit-for-windows-7-on -unsupported-macs.html
Everything works ( for ) now. Yay!

  • Curve 8330 Voice dialing and sound problems, Please help!

I got this black berry curve 8330 from a friend on the weekend to replace my broken Pearl. He said it worked fine but it sometimes had a voice dialing problem. After wiping all the personal data and activating the phone the voice dialing went nuts. Every 6 to 9 sec the voice dialing would activate with no sound. meaning you don't hear the lady voice say, "say a command". After reading many forums posts I download memmax and removed all VAD files. But I will still left with no sound. I went and did a test on the hardware and the speaker and microphone both worked fine. Puzzled I tried playing a ringtone, , it plays maybe the first second of the file and then the sounds goes away but I am able to get it back by press the Speaker/$ key. I then tried making a phone call and the phone was working just fine. About an hour later I tired calling someone and the issue had raisin again. This time I was unable to get the sound back. (I tried resetting many times with no success.) I could still play media files, but was unable to get sound making or receiving calls (this includes the other party not being able to hear me as well.) I tired changing profiles with no success. I then did some more reading and tried updating the OS. Once that was done and voice dialing had been reinstalled and started acting up again. SO I removed it and basically everything happened all over again. So right now I have a phone that I can’t make calls on but I can still text and use the internet. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Should I try wiping the OS and reinstall or is this phone toast?
