Headset question

I am looking for a good bluetooth headset that will work with my cellphone (moto v551) and my mac (mini). When I go shopping, will I just be able to pick up any bluetooth headset and be able to pair it to my phone or mac (depending on where I want to use it) or is there something special that I should look for.
Also, if anyone has any sugguestions for a good but cheep headset...I'm listening

I just bought this one from Plantronics and it's been working flawlessly. It was recognized immediately in the bluetooth setup preference and it works seamlessly with Skype.
I have to say that I would recommend it to anyone.
ps, don't be thrown by the price, I picked it up for $58.00 through Pricegrabber

Okay, I got a new BT-headset today, called Samsung HM-3100, works fine to call with, but my question is, can I play music with this BT headset?
    Regard,

Yes. Check the documentation that came with the headset or call customer support for the headset, or look it up online.
It took me only a few seconds to type your model into the google search bar and get the answer:
    "Specifications

    • Weight: 8.2g
    • Bluetooth Version: v2.1 + EDR

No A2DP. This is simply a phone headset.

  • A Bluetooth headset question

Every time I have had the phone turned off, I always have to go into the Bluetooth menu and select connect to the headset again. Not a big problem really, but I usually forget this and usually get reminded every time I get a call and the headset doesn’t work.
So I wonder if this is a normal procedure or if a phone could reconnect automatically to the bluetoorh headset, even after restart? In my case a Nokia with Symbian Belle.

Two points here, firstly if you go to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth > if you tap middle icon on top row with two Bluetooth icons - is headset authorised with padlock icon beside it and secondly, if you go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Accessories > is headset set as default (longpress on Headset to reveal this option)?

  • USB Headset Question

I recently purchased a Logitech USB headseat so my wife and I can Skype while I'm away. My objective was to have a headset that she could plug in if she head the computer 'ringing' from it's built-in speakers.
What I'm discovering, is that when I plug the USB headset in, the mic works correctly, but the earphones seem to be muted until I click and unclick the mute box in the sound output preferences.
I'd rather not have her changing anything in the preferences... Is this a problem with my particular headset, or is it a USB problem (or a preferences problem)?
    Thanks for your thoughts!
    Bob

    SJA,
Thanks for the reply... The USB 'problem' was interesting. I had adjusted/selected the output options, but for some reason, I'd still get the problem of the muted USB headset.
Then for some still unexplained reason (a couple hours later) it began to work...
    Go figure.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi,
Have you tried to go to System Preferences? Go to System Preferences, click Sound, then select input or output, and you should see your device there.

  • N97 - Headset question

Today I bought my N97 early. I took the phone out to check it, at first sight it does fulfill my needs. Only much later in the day do I unbox everything, the headset to me seems really odd... For something new it's quite strange to see that the control is all scratched, but what's most intriguing to me are the earphone cords. So the intriguing part of the cords is that they're totally different sizes from one another, the short one is about 6 inches while the long one is about 12 inches longer - is that normal by any means? This is coming from someone who hasn't had that many earphones, but the ones I had were equally sized.

I would say they are made this way so that you can run the long one behind your neck to the other side and the short one would not have a lot of excess cord since it would be plugged into the controller located somewhere around the shirt pocket vicinity (height wise) since this is where the mic is.

  • SLI: 6600GT TD128E + VTD128E Possible?

I am trying to put together a new system and would like some input on the posiblity of running these two cards together in SLI.  MSI NX6600GT-TD128E + MSI NX6600GT-VTD128E
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+ or *3500+ (E3 Venice)
    Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

Optical Drive: LG Super Multi Recorder GSA-4163B
    Video Card: 2 x *MSI NX6600GT-TD128E or MSI NX6600GT-VTD128E
Box/Power: PowerCooler + a 500w capable of powering this system (don't got the specs on hand)

Question:  Am I going to have problems with SLI if I use a TD and a VTD -will this work?  I like the idea of having video inputs.  Is there any other difference betweeen these two cards besides this video in feature, overclocking capabilities...?  One day I would like to get a TV tuner card as well... I guess I could just use the video inputs on that if need be and go with the TDs.  Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

If ASUS requires the two video cards are the same and have the same BIOS, some issues may occur if you use them as SLI. It would be better to contact ASUS to ask for the detailed and share with us.

  • A few questions about bluetooth technology and headsets...

Alright I am new to bluetooth technology and headsets, and want to do the proper research before I buy one.
1)I have seen some have 1.2 and 2.0 technology, so what is the difference and should I only look for one that offers 2.0?
2)Do they all offer a vibrating alert?
2b)Or just those really big kinds that look like hearing aides that have that little box behind your ear?...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=2002 46049729
    3) Do they all have a multi-function button, 3way, mute, volume etc?
3b) Or are some just a single button that only answers and hangs up?
    4) Do any of these charge via bluetooth?
    5) I've seen some bluetooths have a micro sd chip in them... what is the point of this? Can they be used like a usb storage device?
    6) Can you buy those usb to mini-usb adapters for charging and data transfer (not sure what kind of data you would transfer to a headset) separate from having to buy a combo kit that comes with it?

You might try Google and look for answers, these are pretty comprehensive questions regarding a broad sweep of headsets. You might get answers on a few models, or just Apple's, here.
If you click on each of the models in the link I gave you it goes into more detail about each one.

  • Question about Tritton AX 720 Dolby Digital Surround Gaming Headset

Hello, I have a question about the AX 720 that I hope someone can answer. I emailed Tritton and I'm not sure they understood what I was asking, so Ill try here. Ok, my question is this, Will I get audio through the headset if my set up is this: My X-BOX 360, my PS3 , and my Direct TV box are all hooked up to my TV via HDMI. My TV has an optical audio output, so if I hook up the AX 720's amp to my TV with the optical cable will I get the audio that is coming from that output into my headset? I'm using the Tritton AX 180's now hooked up almost exactly the same, except instead of the optical out, I'm using the red and white out that is right next to the optical out, and it works perfect. I get full audio from all 3, and the only time I have to change any cables is when I want to chat, but thats rare. I'm looking to upgrade to the 720 because I'm on my 3rd set of broken AX 180's. Ive read several reviews about the 720's and a few of them said that if your TV has an optical output that you can use that, and I hope its true. I hope this question makes sense, and thanks in advance for the help.

@Rockadile: You are totally right about the AX 180's breaking, like I said Im on my 3rd set. Thankfully for the first break it was within the return period, then I made sure to buy the warranty when I got the second. Now that the 3rd has broken in the same exact place Im done with these. The problem is my heads big (wide), and because of this theres extra pressure on the plastic piece that connects to the ear piece. I had to make a custom metal bracket to fix it. What I did was take 2 pieces of flat metal and bent them into the shape and angle of the plastic that attaches the earpiece, then I electrical taped them VERY tight. So basically instead of the plastic getting the stress, the metal does. And it worked great up until now, its breaking just below the adjustable part where the plastic goes into top of the headset. I looked at the AX 720's and it seems like there alot wider and stronger in that area. But if I do get them I will be sure to buy the replacement warranty. Sucks having a big head!

  • Headset fidelity question...

Yesterday I bought a cheap Bluetooth headset and paired it with my 12" PowerBook. It paired, and it functioned on the first try. But I am a little disappointed because the sound quality is poor.
It's not that I wanted to listen to music with it or anything, but when I use it for recording, it sounds awful. Looking at the Audio MIDI Setup app, it looks like the headset is limited to 8 kHz audio in either direction.
My question is: Is this a limitation of the headset (meaning I could fix it by getting a better headset), or a limitation of the protocol or of OS X, meaning that I am stuck?
I was hoping to be able to use the headset to control 'speakable items' on the computer, but 8 kHz is not high enoug fidelity for that. I'm thinking in terms of using it in the car, where the computer does navigation and audio. The neat thing is that I can get it to play dialog boxes and alert sounds to the headset while playing iTunes through the audio port that goes to the radio, so I could literally use the headset to have a conversation with the computer that wouldn't disturb everybody else in the vehicle. But not with such low microphone fidelity.
    --Dave Althoff, Jr.

I was in the exact same situation...except I wanted to use mine for speakable items. (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1109423#1109423) but sad to say, it's the headset technology. Even if you go out and get another one, they're all limited (as far as I know).

  • Droid X - Headset jack question

This is probably a really easy question, but I cannot seem to find an answer on the web.
Does the Droid X 3.5mm  jack support headphones with an integrated mic? I've tried plugging in my iPhone headset into my Droid X, and while I am able to hear sound, it doesn't to recognize the mic. I'm really like having a wired headset - so any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it supports them. I'm using the Plantronics MX150 Headset that Verizon sells with my Droid X. Everything works as expected, including the button on the cord that invokes voice commands. Maybe the iPhone headset has some proprietary connection about it.
My only issue with it is that the volume is often too low when driving on the freeway, even if turned all the way up. Reading on support forums, this appears to be a general issue with the Droid X (not just that headset). Talking with both Verizon and Motorola today, they appear to be working on a software solution to increase the max volume for all aspects of the phone.

  • USB headset / Jabra 6470 question

I've just made the transition from the dark side, and I have a question about getting a Jabra 6470 working with OSX.  I think it may be a limitation of my understanding of how audio devices are treated under OSX.
The Jabra can connect either via USB or Bluetooth.  Under Windows, there is a driver and client software for the Jabra.  There is none for the Mac.  When I connect the Jabra to the Mac via USB, it shows up as an audio device in Control Center and appears to be available from Skype, but I can't actually get it to work.  There's no audio, and the microphone doesn't respond.  If I connec the Jabra  to the Mac via Bluetooth, I can get both the audio and the microphone to work fine... but it appears that ALL Mac audio is redirected.  It looks like it's all or nothing... either everything goes through Bluetooth or nothing does.  Ideally I'd like to be able to let Skype use the Jabra but the rest of the Mac use the built-in speakers and microphone.
Is this the way it is supposed to work (all or nothing) with a bluetooth device?  And any hints on getting the Jabra to work USB?
    System info:
iMac 27" 3.4Ghz i7, 768GB SSD, 32GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2... also has a secondary 27" display and a Drobo 5D, but I doubt if either of those are part of the equation.

usb is a digital serial interface it can never carry normal audio
which is why usb headsets are not just headsets they are audio cards which connects over usb
and to do that you need a driver
about bluetooth all or nothing then thats the same with all windows not just osx if bluetooth headset is used all other audio outputs are muted
would assume the same to be the case if you find a usb driver for the headset
