Headset (wired) 3,5 mm audio and mic jacks; window...

I have heard from a supposedly reliable source (a radio shack salesman) that skype for windows 8 has problems using a wired headset (3.5mm jacks for audio and mic).  I am using 64bit windows 8; a hp envy 700-074 (beats audio) computer with plenty of ram.  Can someone comment on this.  I hate to purchase a headset and not have it work and go thru the hassle of having to return it.

I really have no idea what problems he was referring to.  Did he go into specifics?  Some people hear more audio artifacts in Windows 8.   As far as I can tell Radio shack people are salespeople first, technical second but maybe you got lucky.
A wired headset should work as good as  your onboard if not in actuality better.  So I don't know how it would sound worse unless you purchase some cheap detachable headset that sounds like you're talking into a paper/plastic cup.  Many HPs use the IDT chipset which has never impressed me.  The microphone/speaker selections can be very odd when compared to other chipset drivers.  As long as you have the right selection and the latest audio drivers, you shouldn't run into any major issues.  If you do run into audio issues, you can always get a 3.5mm to USB adapter for your headset or buy a USB headset to sidestep sound card related issues.

  • Boot camp 5 is not support for audio and mice in windows 8.1

i upgrade to windows 8.1, but, no audio and mice is not working properly. i used boot camp 5. any one can help.

Windows 8.1 x64 RTM is running without any problems on MacBook Pro 13" i7 16GB Memory as I upgraded last week.
If you are using the Beta version of Windows 8.1 I suggest you wait until it is available to the General Public on October 17.
If you have the RTM (I am a Microsoft Partner) then just install and then run the Windows Support Software for Bootcamp 5 and the proper drivers will be installed.

  • Screen Recorder with system audio and mic?

I need a screen recorder that:
    1. Is free
    2. Can Record System Audio and mic at same time
    3. Does not need another app or extension
I know the trick with soundflower and quicktime, but I want something that will do the hard stuff for me.

You mean "you do not need to pay". The instructions you link to involve a third party application called SoundFlower.

  • USB adapter for Apple Earphones that will let you use both audio and mic simultaneously for a phone conversation?

I like the Apple Earphones (the iPhone headphone with audio, mic and remote) but I hate to keep plugging it on and off my Macbook Air. So I heard the only way to fix that is to buy a USB headphone so you can switch it on and off through software. Problem is that I like my Apple Earphones and I want to keep using it but now through USB. Is there a USB adaptor that will work with the Earphone, in other words, that will make both headphone and mic work at the same time for a phone conversation?

  • Headphone and mic jacks do not work

I disabled the onboard audio drivers to install an Audigy 2ZS board in my new Dimension 900. Now the Dell factory installed mic and headphone jacks on the front of the computer do not work. I'm assuming thats because I disabled the onboard drivers? Any way to get them working with the 2ZS card? I understand that the mic and headphone jacks have cables that can be hooked to a card. Does the 2ZS support this kind of hookup?
    Thanks

    Hey everyone
It's very possible to connect your front jacks to Audigy. I'm currently using my headphones that way.
    Here is what you do:
. On top you audigy card

    2. Audigy pin assignments (connect you front panel cable to things marked in red)

I'm still working out the kinks. For instance, if you've ever had an Audigy Dri've (comes with Platinum and Pro version of Audigy), you know that when you plug in headphones, sound to speakers mutes and Creative Speaker Settings panel automatically switches to "Headphones". That was nice. I don't know if it's possible this way.

  • Audio Through Mic Jack

I recently purchased an Microsoft  A/V VGA adapter cable for my Xbox 360 so that I could set it up to my computer monitor. The audio runs through rca cables with a mini headphone adapter. When I purchased it, I was told that I could put the mini headphone adapter into the microphone jack on my computer and run the sound through my computer. When I do this, I don't get any sound. Can someone help me with this? Everything is unmuted on my sound control, and I am using a Dell XPS 410 with Windows XP. Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The approach you were given should work, although you want to use a Line-In jack and not a mic jack.  Mic jacks are typically mono (they have three pins but one supplies power to the mic).  In many cases the jacks can be reconfigured by software.
Are you SURE everything is unmuted AND the volume is increased?  Usually the Line-In slider is muted and often set to zero in addition to the mute option being set (effectively double-muted).

  • MSI 975X motherboard-how connect front audio and mic connection to mobo?

My case has separate connections (not a single molded) plug for Mic and Headset.
Can someone tell me the connections by colored wire perhaps to best connect the various leads to the JAUD1 connection?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter
You might be lucky and discover that someone has the exact same case as you, so they would then be able to tell you the wire colours (If you tell us the make and model of your case). Far as I know, there is no set rule to the colour coding, but you should see a label on the actual wire connector (yes, they are not exactly big, but they do have a label usually!) The manual tells you what each individual pin of JAUD1 is for. The negative wire of each set is usually slightly thicker than the positive. This is all similar to JFP1 and JFP2, for the power switch etc, so I assume you have already developed paper-thin fingers in order to handle these connections
Here is Intel's descriptions of the pins:-
For Intel High Definition Front Panel Audio
    Pin  Signal Name      Description
1    PORT 1L               Analog Port 1 - left channel (Microphone)
    2    GND                    Ground
3    PORT 1R              Analog Port 1 - right channel (Microphone)
4    PRESENCE#          Active low signal that signals BIOS that an Intel® HD Audio dongle is
connected to the analog header. PRESENCE# = 0 when an Intel
                                   HD Audio dongle is connected
5    PORT 2R               Analog Port 2 - right channel (Headphone)
6    SENSE1_RETURN    Jack detection return for front panel (JACK1)
7    SENSE_SEND         Jack detection sense line from the Intel HD Audio CODEC jack

  • Audio and mic dont work.

    Hello everyone,
few days ago I instaled the new windows 10 and after that, decided to update and instal new drivers from Hp support webpage. After I installed a couple of drivers and restarted my laptop, the audio wont work, neither the microphone. I downloaded the new "IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver", BIOS, Firmware, etc. Can you help me please?

, hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. The only options you have at this point is to roll back the system until there are updates from Microsoft so that all the bugs can be worked out. Any time an OS gets released there is a period of growing pains that we all go through. Until there are full drivers listed on the HP support page for your system and Windows 10, I would stick with what is shown under supported drivers and operating system.
Thanks again for the post and have a great day.

  • Does Siri work with a car's bluetooth audio and mic?

I haven't purchased the new iphone yet b/c I've been waiting to see if you can use Siri with your car bluetooth. I'd like to be able to have Siri read emails/texts over the car bluetooth speakers and dictate emails/texts using the car's bluetooth mic. I have a new VW with the most recent bluetooth technology so I'm hoping the answer is yes.
Anyone out there try this yet?
    Thanks

I have a BOSS radio that has built-in Bluetooth and I was doing it earlier today and Siri's voice was coming out of the car speakers. I was also able to ask her questions but I still had to touch the mic on the phone first. Hope this helps.

  • Is there a 3.5mm plug cable to separate the audio and mic?

Then I can use is by the Ordinary headset

well I'm actually the Ryan who's email is xxxx'd out. Guess they don't like showing people a way to save a few dollars on some car mounts for their ipod. Yet another reason why I don't have an ipod. Cripple the players and cripple the forums. Though I still bought my mom an ipod
Anyway...after poking around, wouldn't an easy solution be to just buy the AV Composite cable, use the stereo RCA plugs for the input on the in dash radio (can buy a $3 RCA to 3.5mm adapter if needed) and use the USB side to charge via a USB car charger? Granted, it's not the nice hardwired solution (my prefrence), but for most who just want plug and play, it's a simple solution for line out sound quality and charging while in the car.
The only downside is I don't see a cheap one anywhere. You'd think some third party company would've made one by now. They make everything else cheaper. But the cable would serve double duty if you needed it elsewhere. PLUS, if you had an indash LCD screen, you could use the video out on it as well. Screw the DVD player, just use your ipod video/touch/iphone as the video player in your car. Some indash players have video in as well.
Regardless, you have options to get line out sound quality. If you don't need to charge, docking port av cables are about $6 on ebay. Just do a search of "ipod av composite cable". It'll come up along with the headphone jack ones.
Another plus going the USB route is why not go that route with everything you have. You can hard wire in a usb hub, have it hidden behind the dash and just run a usb cable for your particular device to it. Much smaller than 12v outlets and you can charge as many cables you can fit into the hub. Almost everything has a USB cable for it nowadays.

    Hi @mcmanus90
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I saw your post regarding the problem using the iPhone earphones. Try setting them as the default recording device. This third-party link will show you how to do it. Now it is for Windows 7 but if you search for Control Panel from your tile page and go to Sound it will be the same from there.

  • K9agm2 no front audio or mic

hi all,  i have found the need to use my front headpone and mic jacks on my case but cant get them to work.  I have checked the cable from the case is correctly hooked up to JAUD1 and it is but whenever i connect my headset or headphones nothing happens.  If i connect the phones to the rear jacks i get a pop up from the realtek audio software saying something has been plugged in so i know that those are working.  I have just downloaded r1.79 drivers from realtek site and installed but that hasnt made any difference the ones on msi are only 1.75.  I am running vista home premium on the pc.  Am i missing something obvious like a setting in bios or can someone please shed any light on where I am going wrong

  • AVI files loaded in Premier Elements 7 only show audio and not video.

I am a new user of Premier Elements 7 and am having problems getting the video into a new project I set up. I have 6 AVI v1.0 clips that play both audio and video in Windows 7, but when I set up a project and import them, I only get the audio side and not the video side. I can drag the audio to the timeline and can play the audio just fine. But it is missing the video. I must be doing something wrong, but am new enough that I don't know where to turn.
I have been reading the forums and taking tutorials, so I think I know the steps to import a video into PRE7. I've tried many things, but still no video. I downloaded GSpot and found that my files have video H264 (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) and audio oxooo2 (ADPCM). The codecs seem to be installed on my Windows 7 computer.
Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do next. I'm a computer professional with 50 years of experience, so am no dummy, but am new to PRE7. Thanks in advance.

I found a mini-CD that came with the product. When I loaded it on my computer, one of the options was to install a device driver. I did this and now I can see the video in PRE7. So, I think this solves my problem.
I applaud the mfgr. of the Insignia. This is the way that it should be with ALL cameras, that do not use a miniDV tape, or precise CODEC, that is mainstream. All too often, the mfgrs. tweak an existing CODEC, and just leave the customer hanging, trying to find a way to edit the footage. A couple of major mfgrs. come immediately to my mind.
Others, who use CODEC's, like Xvid, that is so heavily compressed, that even converting it to an editable format/CODEC results in such horrible footage, that no one would ever be satisfied with the finished product.
    <Soapbox Mode Off>
Glad that you are now up and editing. For my education, what does G-Spot say about the CODEC in the Insignia footage? At least next time that I encounter it, I can say - "look in the box, and install the driver to get the CODEC."
    Thanks for reporting,

  • Using the mic jack in Captivate?

Any suggestions on how I turn on the mic jack in Captivate 2?
I’m using the 30 day free trial” any chance the mic
record option has been turned off in this version?
The mic and the jack work fine in other programs.
    Thank you for any help.
    Joe

Hi Joe, and welcome to the Captivate User community!
Nothing is disabled in the trial versions. The inability of
Captivate to recognize some mics has been a problem forever, and
all I can suggest is that you run a search (here) to see how others
handled the problem. Wish I could tell you just to "turn it on" but
    it's just not that simple.
You will have to use trial and error with various microphones
or follow the suggestions of others herein, to solve the problem.
Try searching for the string "Audio AND mic". Search at least the
"General", the "Editing", and the "Recording" forums for that
string (hold down CTRL while selecting (clicking) multiple fourms).
That will yield several pages of "hits" on your problem.
    G'day, and good luck!!
