Headstart & Designer 6.0

We are currently using Headstart 2.1.2 and are considering
upgrading to Designer 6.0. Our application is currently
developed using Developer 5.0. Future developement will
probably be done using Developer 6.0. What is the exact date
when Headstart will be available for Designer 6.0 ? Are there
any issues going from Developer 5.0 to 6.0 using Headstart 2.1.2
? Does there exist documentation on the latest release of
Headstart for Desinger 6.0 ?
Thank You,
Henry P. Rivera

  • Headstart Designer 10g Migration Guide?

Is there a Headstart Designer 10g Migration Guide?
We are migrating our forms application generated from Designer2K 2.1, Forms 5, Headstart 212 with repository in database Oracle 8 to the latest releases Designer 10g (10.1.2.0.2), Forms 10g (10.1.2.0.2) with repository in Database 10g R2 (10.2.0.2).
If we follow the migration path for designer and the repository database to 6i then to 10g, recompile the object library and form templates, regenrerate our modules, then will it still work? Do we need to do anything to the Headstart Designer Template Package? Hope you can help with a road map.

    Hi Nathan,
there are several possibilities for a migration path. It depends on the expected life-span of the application(s), wether or not you want to use new Headstart functionality, etc.
A description of these possibilities can be found in the migration guide which is included in the Headstart 9i/10g documentation. Do you have the latest version of Headstart available?
Because you currently use an older version of Headstart, a migration will take a bit more work than described in this documentation because Headstart code has changed. So you will have to replace Headstart function calls or create a wrapper library.
Further, regeneration of (the more complex) Forms is not that simple as you will probably have to modify the lay-out. If you use client-side functionality (open MS Word/Excel, write to the local file system, etc), you will have to use Oracle's Webutil-package.
So it can be done. But it will take some planning and programming. Succes.
p.s. if you (temporarily) publish your e-mail address, i can provide you with some additional info.

  • Headstart Designer generated form crashes with Java EOF error

When closing a form while in Enter Query mode, the form crashes & user is
disconnected from the database with error:
FRM-92100: Your connection to the server was interrupted.
    Details:
    Java Excepton
    java.io.EOF Exception
    at java.io.DataInputStream.readUnsignedByte(Unknown Source)
    at oracle.forms.engine.Message.readDetails(Unknown Source)
    at oracle.forms.netStreamMessageReader.run(Unknown Source)

Designer generates the ON-ERROR block level trigger. It has
execution style of BEFORE. Therefore, both the block level and
form level ON-ERROR triggers will fire.
Normally, in the block level trigger, Designer will generate
calls to its own message handling package to display any
constraint errors. However, Designer also allows you to specify
your own custom message handling package.
    The package must contain:
    - a procedure called PUSH
    - a function called MSGGETTEXT, and
    - a procedure called RAISE_FAILURE.
The preference MSGSFT, Package Used for Messaging, allows you to
record the name of the custom package.
Once you have recorded this in the preference, whenever you
generate a form, Designer will use your package and procedures
for its error handling code. That is why you see calls to
Headstart specific code in the block level ON-ERROR triggers.
If you want to customize the ON-ERROR triggers, you need to make
sure you understand how the MSGSFT preference is used. Read the
online help. Then, you can customize individual blocks by adding
application logic to the block, or you can add your own ON-ERROR
trigger to the object library in the CG$BLOCK object.
However, be warned that the Headstart error handling mechanism
depends on this code. Depending on what you do, you could end up
    breaking things.

  • Headstart/Designer 6i / Report Generation / Format Trigger / Repeating frames.....

    Good morning all!
    Product version...
    Headstart 6i
    Des.6i 6.5.52.5.0
    Des.tools 7.2.52.2.0
    Des.report generator 6.5.52.1.0
    Dev. report builder 6.0.8.14.2
Any idea on how to generate from Designer, a format trigger on a report's repeating frames???
    Thank you,
    Michel

You can customize report in Report Builder. The Report Builder can be run from Repository Reports menu (Run -> Report Builder).

  • Headstart Designer 6i. Install into Production Environment as Client/Server

    Hi,
We are using designer 6i with headstart installed. We already have it installed in one 8i database running on an NT server but now we need to deploy it in a different 8i database. The associated documentation relates to a web server enviroment. Can you provide the steps or documentation to install this on a client server environment?
    Thanks

    Paul,
You're right.. You shouldn't ;-D But a good hack is hard to resist. Therefore, create the following view:
    create or replace view my$version as select replace(banner,'Personal ') banner from sys.v_$version;
Now, create a synonym named v$version to this view.
The neatest way to do this is to create the view my$version view in your HST schema, and create a grant and a private synonym to this view in the schema's that you use to run the Forms:
    create synonym v$version for <HST_OWNER>.my$version
But if you're bold enough you could also remove the existing public synonym v$version (which points to sys.v_$version), install the my$version view in the SYS schema and create a new public synonym:
    create public synonym v$version for my$version;
And remember, you never heard this from me ;-D
    Kind regards,
    Peter

  • Oracle Headstart Designer 2.1.2 Utilities - Database Auth Scheme DB.030

I'm trying to use the Database Auth Scheme DB.030, but without
    much success.
I've created roles and users, granted system priviliges and run
the .sql file. I added a role to a module under its Security
tab, open Headstart Utilities and select my database, new role
and correct schema in DB.030. When I hit Run, I get the
    following information: -
    Information
    Message
Deleted old group object privileges created by this utility.
Created privilege for group 'CC_OP' and
    table 'OSS_ANONYMOUS_REQ_DEFS'.
Created privilege for group 'CC_OP' and table 'OSS_DOCUMENTS'.
Modified privilige for group 'CC_OP' and table 'OSS_DOCUMENTS'.
I was expecting to see extra entries in role_tab_privs, but
    nothing extra gets added.
Has anyone got a guide to using DB.030, or can tell me what I'm
doing wrong. There isn't any information about DB.030 in my
    Utilities manual.
    Thanks.

I'm not aware of any bugs related to this code.
In you utility preferences window, set the debug level to 'Debug
Detailed'. This will cause your log file to give you much more
information. You can examine the utility code to try to
determine where it might be going wrong. You can find the name
of the utility package in the online help for the utility. You
can then use something like PL/SQL Developer to examine the code.

  • Designer6.0/Headstart to Designer 9i

    Hello world,
Is it possible to use the Designer 6.0-Headstart version (qmsolb50, qmstpl50 etc) in combination with Designer 9i? Is it possible to migrate from Designer 6.0 to 9i without upgrading Headstart (I know a recompile in Developer 9i is needed, but should I buy the 9i-version)?
Are there any known limitations, bugs, workarounds etc?
    TIA
    Roel Hartman

    Roel,
As designer9i and designer6i (at the moment) hardly differ, what you intend to do resembles strongly a 'simple upgrade' strategy from designer 6.0 to
    designer 6i.
Main difference is that you need the headstart designer 9i software (up to 6.5.3.1 available through the supplement option). Just follow the instructions in miggd65.pdf, chapter 2 and 3.
There are of course known limitations of using the simple upgrade strategy, the migration guide explains in detail when to choose for simple, when to choose for a full upgrade scenario.
My advice would be to always full upgrade an application, unless no functionality changes are to be expected anymore.
Mind that the headstart templates for designer 6i intend to fully exploit webforms functionality and new designer 6i features.
For more information on this, refer to the release notes (relhsd65.htm) and the migration guide mentioned above, both included in the iDevelopment Accelerators software suite.

  • Migration of forms and reports developed using Headstart  VERSION 3.4.1

    Hi,
We have developed an application in forms 4.5 reports 2.0 based on repository 1.3.2 and Headstart
    Designer/2000 Template Package VERSION 3.4.1
Now we want to migrate to Oracle 9i(web enabled)
1)Is it possible to migrate only the forms and reports in 4,5 to 9i without the designer repository? Can the repository be left out?
2)What about the templates and packages on the 2000 Headstart version. Is it necessary to migrate the same to 9i also?
2)In case the repository has also to be migrated how do i go about migration to 9i??
4)In case the headstart template/packages to be migrated how do i migrate to 9i?
5)Where is the documentation available for headstart?
    Kindly help..

    Hi 23768 ( ;-) ),
There is a whole wealth on information regarding upgrade/migration of headstart generated application systems.
What you need is a licence on iDevelopment Accellerators and the Supplement Option (cso.oracle.com) to download this material.
Contact your Oracle Consulting representative if you would like to know how to do this.

  • URGENT:problems with installation of HeadStart

After installing Oracle HeadStart R2.1.2 on a common driver and
then Server-Side as explained in the file inst_oi.htm I have
    launched the program Start->Program->HeadStart Designer R 2.1.2->
    HeadStart Utilities Administration.
Then it appears to me the program Developer 2000 Forms Runtime
for Windows 95/NT ad a form asking me UserID, Password and
    database.
I have inserted the combination that I usually use for Designer
and then I obtain the following error: FRM-41085 : ERROR
OBTAINING THE COUNTING OF ROWS OF THE GROUP at which I answer OK
and then the error FRM-40735 : THE TRIGGER PRE-FORM DOES NOT
    MANAGE THE EXCEPTION ORA-04062.
    Which could be my problem?
I have also tried a lot of time to reinstall the server side but
also if the combinations of password and connection in the fifth
form of the wizard are RIGHT(as when I installed the first time)
it gives me the error "User name/Password Repository Owner or
Connect String is not correct". How can I try to reinstall all?
The type of installation was "new installl" because I didn't
have a previous release of HeadStart.
Or the problem are due to the release of Designer/Developer as I
had written in the letter of 15 Sept 1999 at which nobody has
    not answered still.
Please Reply as soon as possible.
    Than you.

    Andrea,
Please install Oracle Designer 2.1.2 first. You can reinstall by
using other users or deleting the users that you have created for
the first install. Please do not forget to also delete the
    hsu212_user first before you reinstall.

  • Company and application library in Headstart 6i

Form level triggers and corresponding event-handling procedures in the application/company library have been changed in Headstart Designer R6I
in comparison to previous release 3.4.x. I wonder how to organize the new
library-structure and event-handlers to maintain (implicit) standard functionality for form-level triggers on application and company level. The headstart user
guide is not clear on this isue.

    Oscar,
I suppose your question concerns how to customize headstart code for a specific company or application.
The way to do it for code in the event handler (qmsevh65) is to copy the procedure that you want to change to your own application or company library and modify it ther to your own needs. By the attachment order, your changed procedure will prevail.
For the code in the qmsevh65 library, you could go the same way but BE AWARE that you need to recompile all forms and libraries again after you made a change to the copied packages. Also keep in mind that new procedures/functions and/or parameters should always be placed after exiting ones in a package you want to modify.
An alternative for customizations to qmsevh65 is :
    1. copy the package to your application library
    2. RENAME it
    3. Copy all procedures from qmsevh65 that call the package you want to change
    4. Change the code in these procedure to call the newly (renamed and changed) package
With the latter approach you do not need to recompile all forms and libraries.
    Hope this helps, Marc

  • Upgrading to Headstart Ruleframe

At the moment we have several applications running. Some have been build using
Headstart Desinger/2000, while others have been build using Headstart
    Ruleframe.
Of course, because of this we have to maintain both versions of Headstart. We
would like to use only one version of headstart, Headstart Ruleframe.
Is there any information on how to easily migrate the applications using Headstart
    Designer/2000 to Headstart Ruleframe?
Is it possible to regenerate an application replacing Headstart Designer templates and libraries with those of Headstart Ruleframe?
    Which steps are involved?
    Appreciate your help!
    null

    Matthijs,
Yes, it is possible to migrate the Headstart software to the new versions (i.e. patch 12) without really starting to use CDM RuleFrame.
In each form that will be recompiled after you upgraded Headstart to patch 12, there will be a call to qms_transaction_mgt.open_transaction and close_transaction. So these packages should be installed but because no business rules are put on the rule stack (TAPI does not call CAPI package), the close_transaction will always succeed.
Notice that several utilities will be disabled after installation of CDM RuleFrame (e.g. the utility to workaround the Mutating Table problem, which has become obsolete as soon as you start using CDM RuleFrame).
    Kind Regards, Marc

  • HeadStart Installation

    Hi,
I want to install head start 10g on my system.
I have followed the instruction given in instaaltion guide.
But at Server-Side Installation of Headstart
*1. Create the Headstart users using the following script. This script is located in the [HSD65_HOME]\hst\scripts directory.*
    create_hsd65_users.sql
You will need the following information in order to run this script.
    SYS password
database connect string where the users are to be created
Name and password you want to use for the new Headstart Template Package owner (e.g. HST65)
Name and password you want to use for the new Headstart Utilities owner (e.g. HSU65)
Name and password you want to use for the new Headstart Demo Application owner (e.g. HDEMO65)
Tablespace names you want to use for Default and Temporary tablespaces for these users
*2. Launch the start local oc4j instance when deploying/installing on the DS10g platform - if not already done*
*3. Click on the icon 'Headstart Server-Side Installer' in the Headstart Designer R10g program group. You will see the following screen.*
After point 3rd i am stuck, i cannot see the icon for which its talking, and please tell me how to start the installation of head start.
please tell me if anyother installation guide is there which is more easier than on i am having.
I am using *"install_for_10g.htm"* for installation

The icons should be avialable under the HSD65_HOME\Environment_Setup\shortcuts
Or you could start a url something like
    http://<your local machine>:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=hsd65_serverinstall

  • Web enabling for V6 not working

I'm trying to follow the instructions for web enabling a system, produced using Headstart & Designer V6. When I try to convert the object library, entering 'form2lib.exe -i webmol50.fmb -o qmsolb50.olb APPEND', I'm getting the following error:
'form2lib.exe - Unable to locate DLL. The dynamic link library f50d2f32.dll could not be found in the specified path'.
Presumably this is because webmol50.fmb was produced using Developer V5; I loaded the form using Forms Builder V6, but no conversion took place. What do I need to do to get around this problem?

There is a new version of the Form 2 Lib utility for use with Forms 6.0.
    fm2lib60.exe
The rest of the command is the same.

    Ton,
You indicated in the Headstart Designer forum that the iDevelopment Accelerators for 6i were now available and that includes Headstart 6i.
Can you advise if this also includes JHeadstart?
Does JHeadstart include a UML modeller? If so, which modeller did you license or did you develop your own?

I found the solution of the problem. It caused by the paste format of the pictures.
ppPasteMetafilePicture has columns limits when convert range to a picture, so use ppPasteEnhancedMetafile instead of ppPasteMetafilePicture will solve this problem.
