Healing Brush .... why?

Something I've wondered about for forever.....
When I'm using the Healing Brush to get rid of acne and the entire area around the brush is free of acne except one spot next to it - WHY does the healing brush always seem to choose THAT spot as the one to copy from?
I'm serious, I can have clean skin all around a big zit except one spot and the healing brush always clones the zit instead of the clean area around it.
It's aggravating because it makes fixing skin a two step process:
- Click and WAIT for LR to pick a spot and WAIT for it to complete the healing process
- Then move the selection and WAIT again for it to finish
Why not just let me pick the source in the first place and get rid of one of the two waiting periods?  It would make fixing up skin so much faster....

Yes, you can make it a one-and-a-half step process. Click-and-hold and drag
to choose the source area.
If you just click, Lightroom selects that area automatically.

  • Spot healing brush - i have icon for healing brush - why not this one?  Ps cc

i have Photoshop cc and watched a tutorial which uses the spot healing brush - the icon looks like an x made of arrows, you hover and it gives you choices.  mine does not have the content aware move tool icon, only the brush.  is there a way to turn it on?@

Can you please do a screen grab showing what choices you DO have?
If you truly don't have all the tools that are normally available in the position in the Tools panel, then you likely need to do a full removal and reinstallation.  But please don't do this before showing what you see.  It may be we can spot something else wrong.

  • Why can't I find the Spot Healing Brush?

Can't find the "Spot Healing Brush" on my PS CS5.

Tab toggles all the panels on and off.  You can use the f key to toggle through the screen modes, but if you are in a mode that hides the panels Escape brings them back again.
I am sure we used to be able to tun the Toolbar on and off with the t key, but that no longer works with CC (and I don't how far back).
So long as you can see the Options bar, you can use the Workspace dropdown and reset your workspace.  That will fix things no matter how confused things have become.

  • Clone Stamp Tool and Healing Brush not working - why?

As pointed out in the thread subject line, both the clone stamp tool and healing brush are not working for me in Photo Elements 7.
When I am attempting to use it, I get the message: "Could not use clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined".   Well, this is not the case since I did define it with command Alt + left mouse click.
    Background:
Photo Elements 7 is installed in Windows XP Professional SP3. The latter runs as a virtual O/S with Sun VirtualBox on host SuSE Linux 11.1 (Gnome).
I have run out of ideas as to what the problem could be, so I am requesting assistance from the forum community. Thank you very kindly in advance for replies.

Do you mean photoshop elements 7 and not premiere elements?
The fix posted above only applies to linux os systems, which is
    different from mac and windows.
On windows vista Alt+left click is to set the clone source.
Try the following steps one at a time.
    1. reset the clone stamp tool by clicking triangle on the far left of the
tool options bar and select reset tool.
    2. Go to Edit>Preset Manager and click Done in the dialog that appears.
    3. Reset the elements 7 preferences by holding down the Shift+Alt+Ctrl keys
at the same time you start elements 7. In the dialog that appears, click yes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why Has The View Image @ %age Gone??? and Comment on 'Content Aware' Healing Brush.

PLEASE, PLEASE BRING BACK the View Image @ 'x' %. on the Top Bar.
It is necessary to view all images at 100% to check for dust on sensor.
It is necessary to view portrait images at 50% to remove obvious skin blemishes before final editing.
Two 'clicks' on CS5  - A convoluted process in CS6 Beta!
Omitting this option is a major retrograde step!
Appreciate the difficulties with this option and it is a plus.
Would be great if you could select an area in one area of image and scale it content aware into another selected area!

There are various ways such as using the Clone Source Panel to scale the source and then use the healing brush, though it doesn't have content aware per se.

  • Spot/Healing Brush Tool?

I have used the Spot/Healing Brush in Lgtrm3 and now have Lgtrm 5; however, my Spot/Healing Brush in 5 does not work.  I will click on the healing brush then adjust my brush size then click on the spot, then click "done".  Nothing happens.  Am I missing a step or is it the program?
    Gentle Teacher

    Rikk,
Thanks for the help.  I didn't realize that there was an opacity slifer for theSpot Brush.  I see that if I increase the feathering there are times when it seems to leave a ghost.  Any ideas?  Also, When removing spots why would you use a feather edge as opposed to a hard one and how much feathering should a person use?  I realize that these questions may require more time than you have but any comment or suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Healing brush tool at lines of high contrast

I love the healing brush tool but hate how it doesn't work right in the proximity of high contrast areas. It leaves that little light or dark halo. Can anyone tell me why/how/solutions as to why it does this? I know bumping up the hardness works a little but then you might as well use the clone tool. Any thoughts?

I know bumping up the hardness works a little but then you might as well use the clone tool.
There's more to the Healing Brush than that. It blends the surrounding pixels and what you just painted together to create a seamless composition (most of the time anyway) while the Clone Stamp Tool will basically only copy/paste pixels. To get rid of the bleeding effect when using the Healing Brush you have to make a selection that would not include the areas of high contrast. You can also try using the Clone Stamp Tool set to either the Darken or Lighten blend modes to make it blend better with the rest of the composition.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 shutting down when using the Spot Healing Brush

    Hello! I recently downloaded and
installed the PSE 9 on my PC. Obviously I wanted to check out it's possibil
ities and especially the Spot Healing Brush. The program seems to work fine until I want to use the Spot Healing Brush
As soon as I try to apply something to a picture, I get the message something is wrong with "photoshopeditor.exe" and needs to shut down the program.
That's really annoying and hopefully someone may have the answer and solution why it does this. I run the program on Windows XP (SP3).
I really appreciate your help. Best regards, CharlesHHH.

  • Healing brush/Clone stamp tool and others very slow processing

Healing brush/Clone stamp tool and others very slow processing. System resources monitor shows only 700MB (of 5GB allocated to Photoshop) RAM and 30% CPU is used to perform such tasks as healing brush. Process bar comes up and is painfully slow to complete the task. I don’t understand why does Photoshop not use all the resources available/allocated? No other programs are running at the time, I have tried all the suggestions on this forum and all over the Google. My brand new system is: Intel I7 4770K overclocked to 4.3GHz, 8GB 1600 RAM, Samsung PRO 120GB SSD system drive, 100GB scratch disk. The photos I usually work on don’t exceed 20MB in size. Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Thanks for the answer.
I have not mentioned the GPU because the processes I described (as far as I know) are not supposed to be using GPU resources. So far I have not been able to afford the GPU i want which is GTX770, so I use Intel 4600 built in graphics instead. To be honest I find, that 4600 graphics is quite powerful. I am able to play Mass Effect 3 on Full spec on max res without game slowing down. And Windows 7 64bit index score is 7.8 for the 4600 graphics. Overall index score is 7.8 on my PC righ now.
I'll try to get the Photoshop system info as soon as possible.
    Thanks again.

  • Photoshops elements 9 shuts down when using the Spot healing brush

Hello all, I just downloaded and installed a trial version of Photoshop Elements 9. Of course I wanted to use that supposedly great "heal" tool. The program seems to work fine, but as soon as I use the Spot Healing Brush, I get the message that something occured and the program has to shut down. It's installed on a Windows XP, SP3 PC. Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening? I appreciate you help. Best regards,

  • Mulit-colored artifacts using Spot Healing Brush-CS3.

This is the first time using this tool. Not sure what's causing this (see attached screengrab of tiff image captured at 200% view). These colored artifacts happen only after using the Spot Healing Brush tool in CS3 AFTER I save, close and reopen the tiff file. I have compression turned off saving scanned image as a tiff.
Is this possible file corruption? I'm thinking it may be from using a soft brush but don't understand why it would only show up after a save, close and reopen. It doesn't show up right when I apply the edit.

R_Kelly, I appreciate your attempt at explaining this. But I think you should know after I scanned the old B&W photographic print as a 16bit RGB tiff, I selected out the red channel, converted the image to grayscale and edited to final tonality. After that I converted to ProPhotoRGB (dithering off-16bit), duped the image and applied a sepia effect using Photo Filter on one copy, another sepia colorization in Variation on the other and combined the two blending at 50% opacity. (Note: to add this sepia effect I was forced to work in 8 bit, but these artifacts showed up even in other scans of old B&W photos in 16 bit color).
There was no clipping of data in the mid-range where these artifacts showup (and no where else in the image using this tool as well-just this one spot on the face). There was a minimal amount of clipping in the red channel highlights from small specs scanning 100 year old paper.
I did a google search on this and it doesn't seem to be prevalent which made me wonder what was going on. One RetouchPro.com thread shows up mentioning artifacts associated with Spot Healing Brush but no specifics on what type of artifacts. I posted over there and no one confirmed this was typical behavior of this tool as well.
So I'm really only concerned in knowing if this is normal behavior from this tool and not corruption of the tiff file. I found a workaround to noticeably reduce these artifacts by working on a layer set to 50% opacity. It appears setting the SHB panel option to "Create Texture" makes it worse compared to "Proximity Match".
This is a VERY handy tool for smoothing paper texture and film grain in scanned enlargements of old photos without making it look like smooth plastic.

  • Healing brush in 3.5RC changed?

Has anyone else noticed that the healing brush in 3.5RC now leaves a visible "circle" behind?
It's not always noticeable ... but it's a LOT more noticeable than I ever remember any previous version of Lightroom. I've tried this on 3 different photo shoots since 3.5RC was released and I keep ending up having to avoid using the healing brush because of the visible circle it leaves behind.
I used to do most of my healing type work in LR because it was a lot faster than in Photoshop.  But now I'm afraid to use it.
I'll drop back to LR 3.4.1 for now.  But please get this information back to the developers.

I experience this circle, too (sometimes).
Yes, it's less obvious with the Healing tool.
But what is missing and what I've asked for as a feature request long ago, is a feathering option for the clone / heal tool.
The missing feathering is the reason why these circles appear.

  • Help with spot healing brush in LR

I cannot get the spot healing brush to work in the newest version of LR. I used to use it successfully since LR 2. I have to go into PS now to clean up dust spots.  Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get my spots cleaned in LR?
    Thanks!

    Hi Keith
I click on the spot healing brush tool, click on either heal or clone, then go to the spot, circle it, and click. The spot will not go away.
I've tried holding down the alt/option key and clicking on the spots, but still nothing.  I can drag on the spots, click, nothing....
If I go into Photoshop I can use the spot healing brush there, but not sure why I can't get it to work in LR anymore. It used to always work for me.
    Thank you for any input.

  • Trouble with Healing Brush

Yes. Installing the updates should resolve the issue.

    Hi..
Cs5 Healing Brush not supporting 32bit workflow.. if i want to work on hdr 32bit EXR, the Healing brush not supporting at all. if i want to work i ve to convert them into 16bit.. why its like.. that..?  if i convert 32->16->32 is it possible any color loss.?. can any one  explain technically ...
in cs5 if i try to change 16bit its asking hdri tone maping.. how could skip this process. i just want to convert 16bit and few touch-ups with healing brush. and i want to revert to 32bit. this convertion process causes any color info..
i want to keep my data in to 32float itself. and i want to use healing brush..
    Thanks
    panner

can any one  explain technically ...
Because the author of the healing brush code hasn't updated it (or related tools) to work in 32 bit/channel yet.
(and the person who wrote most of the 32 bit support code couldn't untangle that code to get it working himself)
