Heard of error 1417??

cant update to 1.2 n i have 1.1.2. at the end of trying to update it says an unkown error 1417 occured. cant find any info at all on this error and besides these forums im not sure what other help i can get. i just downloaded itunes 7.

I think something with the previous update was preventing itunes from updating to the 1.2 software for 5th gen ipod. What I did was insert the cd that i got with my ipod. Once in the drive the cds autorun preceded to delete the previous update(or you can probably do it manually). Then I updated in itunes and this time i didnt get error 1417. Either way it worked for me so it might work for you.

  • Fix for Error 1417 with new itunes 7

This worked for me when I got that unknown error - 1417 (can't update ipod)
Step 1: Disable all third party programs and services via MSCONFIG
Article with step by step instructions found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    Step 2: Restart the computer

Step 4: Uninstall itunes through the control panel in add/remove programs
Step 5: Uninstall any/all ipod updaters or ipod for window software through the control panel in add/remove programs
Step 6: Delete program file folders for itunes and quicktime:
--On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
--In My Computer, open Local Disk. (C Drive)
    --Open Program Files.
--Right-click on the iTunes folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
--Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.

Note: if you get an error on this page about an error occuring, just refresh. It should load. Also, there are TWO download options... one with itunes 7 and one without. You want the one without itunes.
    Step 9: Restart computer
    Step 10: Install itunes 7:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
    Step 11: Restart computer
Step 12: Run itunes. You should be able to update and sync your ipod after this and no longer get that pesky 1417 error.
Also, after you have resolved the issue please see the bottom of the msconfig article for instructions on configuring windows to load your normal startup options again.

It seems like almost everybody is having this exact same problem. I bought a Nano for my wife and a iPod Photo for myself. Syncing does not work on either one and from what I read on these boards it doesn't work for most customers. Apple really needs to fix this soon.

  • Error 1417 and 1418

I just updated my iTunes to 7.0, and now i cannot update nor restore my iPod, it says there is an error. When I update the iPod software it says error 1417, restore with error 1418. Can someone please help me out?
    It would be greatly appreciated

I just figured this out. It happened to me and I went crazy. What I did is I used the iPOd restore software on my wife's mac which still had iTunes 6 installed. Once the restorer finished it told me to plug the iPOd into a power adapter as the USB 2 connection does not work like the firewire connection use to ( I DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY DID NOT KEEP THE FIREWIRE - MAKES IT EASIER). ANyway, once it restored itself which it looked like it went thru the process a couple of times, the ipod was like new again. This was a 4th gen click wheel 20 gb model.
    Hope this helps,
    JC

  • Unknown error (1417)

I want to update my Ipod classic (30GB), but i always receive the message 'the ipod of .... cannot be updated. There is an unknown error (1417). My itunes is 7.5 and my system windows XP. I also want to synchronise my ipod, but then i get the message that there is no more space. But i only used 18GB untill now.
I tried to restore the ipod, etc. but nothing solved the problem. Is there anyone who can help with this problem? Thanks.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Error 1415, 1417, 1418, or 1428 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later

  • Unknown error 1417 and 1418?

Help! I've installed an iPOD nano, previously used an iPod mini. It recognises the nano but can't download any msuic. Reinstal and Restore failed with unknown error 1417 and 1418. I've uninstalled old iTunes and iPod software and downloaded the latest iTunes and it still doesn't work -also noticed that the old name for the iPOD mini has been tranferred to the iPod nano but can't delete this - any ideas?

Thanks Kyle, you solved it - the Ipod was connected to a powered 4 way USB2 adaptor - when I connected it direct to a USB2 port in my desktop it worked OK. For all other 1417 sufferers: get rid of your USB adaptors, iPods obviously can't cope with sharing a port!
In answer to your question about the iPod mini it had one of those hard disk failures which shows a sad face - very sad when the repair bill is a standard 75GBP - over 100US$. Only 18 months old.

  • Unknown error (1417) and (1428)

    Hi,
I have updated Itunes to version 7 and I'm trying to do the same for my ipod (version 1.2) but everytime I try, it give me a error window.
When I try to update - The unknown error is (1417) and I also tried to restore instead and still gave me an error, but (1428).
I've tried to restart my ipod, and to reinstlled itunes but nothing makes it.
    Thanks

Some people have had success trying the fix mentioned here.
    Error 1417/1418.
Could you also take some time to pass some information for the Apple Engineers?  Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.
    1. What error code are you seeing?

  • Ipodmini--error 1417/1418 and no music

when i plug in my ipod it connects, but when i try and update it says error 1417 - if i try and restore it says 1418, SO CONFUSED! also, when i try to play music after its unhooked, it just skips thru each song per second going from one to the other. SOMEONE HELP PLZ

The program opens but will play no music. Error message reads: Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly
that one is usually produced by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
so let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch/play properly now?

  • Unable to update to 1.1.1 do I need to? Unknown error (1417)

iPod Classic 80GB. My software version is 1.0.2. Every time I plug my iPod in I am informaed that a newer version of the software (1.1.1) is available, but every time I try to update I am told that the message "could not be completed. An unknown error has occurred (1417). However, I want to know if updating really makes any difference to the way the iPod runs?
I don't want to have to restore unless absolutely neccessary as it takes about a day and a half to resync all my music, which means leaving my computer (which is in my bedroom) on overnight.

You should refer to the link first, since it directly deals with your problem (error 1417). You should try each procedure. You never know what might fix it.
(ex. even though you think your USB drivers are up-to-date, you should double check and update them).
If the procedure outlined in the link doesn't work, you could try my procedure.
    As for your question:
If you have the "Manually Manage Music" ticked in itunes, those are your ipod's settings no matter where you plug your ipod in. If you wish to update using another computer, you could install itunes in another computer, since your ipod is set on Manually Manage Music, it won't sync the new library. A window will likely open asking that your ipod is synced to another library, would you like to sync to this library? Click CANCEL. Then update your ipod.
Good Luck! And let us know how it went.

  • Ipod Nano Error 1417 Tried and won;t work

I've tried looking through the restart method, the disconnect and reconnect method, and nothing works. My Ipod Nano is Ver. 1.0, and the update process does not pop up with a dialogue box, all it does is 'updating' but it's really doing nothing, help?

are you still at an itunes version 7.0.0.70, Chang?
to check, go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
if you've still got a 7.0.0.70, first try an upgrade to 7.0.1.8:
    iTunes 7.0.1.8 Installer
if you still get the 1417 when using 7.0.1.8, let's get your iPod Updater logs to the Apple engineers for a look.
    Open this folder:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Updater Logs
(You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders.")
Send the files inside the iPod Updater logs folder as attachments to this email address.
In the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Can't update ipod nano: errors 1417 and 1428

I bought my 4gb iPOD nano a month or so ago and initially it worked perfectly. For the last week when I plug it in to my PC iTunes detects it and lists what's on it but won't update it or write to it in any way: it variously gives me error numbers 1417 and 1428. Bizzarely I can copy files onto it absolutely fine through Windows. I can't even restore it to factory settings since I can't write anything to it! Help!
    Thanks very much
