Hearing aid compatibility?

I have decided to upgrade from my 5800 ExpressMusic and I want a phone that allows me to use it without removing one of my hearing aids
Some of the newer smart phones have T3 or T4 telecoil compatibility but I cannot find the rating for three Win8 model (929, 820 and 620). Does anybody know compatibity ratings of the latest Nokia phones?

Thanks for the reply. Interesting link, unfortunately "Devices with HAC ratings are available only in the United States",
In this advertisement Lumia 920 is quoted as having HAC rating of M3, T3:http://www.atlantic-usa.com/phones_view.php?phone_id=1542&PHPSESSID=530e8611023e840491a7ee0e813fec15

  • Hearing aid compatibility being ignored as new Blackberry devices are released...

I'm very disappointed in both Research in Motion and the cell phone carriers for making the newer Blackberry devices all M3 and  not M4/T4.
M4/T4 is the best hearing aid compatibility rating.  M3 is just average.
In the past, Blackberries have been M4/T4 rated and I've been very happy with the company for their support.
However, the newer models being released, including but not limited to the Curve 9700 and the Bold 9650 are all M3.
The Blackberry 8830 was M4/T4, then its successor, the Tour 9630 was M3, and sure enough the successor of that, the Bold 9650 is M3.
The Storm (both versions) devices are also M3.
I was researching the phones released by Blackberry; all new phones are M3.  None are M4.  However, if you are content with an older model, like the 8830 for example, they are still sold by the cell phone carriers.
The cell phone carriers work with RIM to determine how high the hearing aid compatibility rating should be.  Cheaper materials lead to lower ratings.  If the cell phone carriers and RIM used higher quality hardware, they could easily get the M4/T4 rating!
I've heard that the higher quality hardware really is not that much more.
These companies need to realize that M3 is not enough and that M4/T4 is the rating they should be striving for when developing phones!
I prefer newer models when I am eligible to upgrade because their onboard memory is often faster, their cameras are often better, and support for technology is better, etc.
So, I am just so disappointed that Blackberry has decided to back away from M4/T4 and offer M3!
This is unacceptable and both RIM and the carriers need to know this!
I have written my carrier to let them know about this.  Hopefully, the Blackberry devices will start being M4/T4 again, which they should be!

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
You have some excellent points and suggestions. I would like that those don't miss the mark in reception by RIM. You see, these forums aren't a vehicle to communicate to/from RIM. Rather, these are user-to-user forums where kind souls volunteer to help out other kind souls as best they can. But, I have heard that RIM accepts constructive suggestions at [email protected]
    Good luck!

  • Hearing Aid Compatability with new 3G phone?

    Hello
Can someone please point out somewhere in the spec for the new 3G phone on M3 or M4 hearing aid compatibility?
    Thanks

    1) On Monday July 14th I purchased and activated my new iPhone 3G. I ported my number from Verizon and ate the early termination fee. I've been asked by multiple people if I received their text messages -- and to my dismay, I didn't receive a couple here and there. They are VZW customers, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it. Even though my phone goes in and out of service at times, there should be no reason why I shouldn't still receive them, right? I went to VZW yesterday to get a car charger for a friend & they asked for my number. I gave them it, and it still showed I receive a 20% discount on accessories. Do you think since I cancelled Verizon recently it is causing this problem sometimes? Any ideas?
It usually takes sometime for all information and services to port over. No longer then a day. But if you are having SMS issues. Feel free to give iPhone Support a call. They can assist with contacting at&t data group and they can perform some troubleshooting on their end. Please ensure you call on something other then the iPhone
    2) Yesterday some soda spilled onto the screen of my iphone. I have an Agent18 case on it which protected it for the most part. I immediately wiped it up and everything was fine. It's been working fine since, but for some reason when I receive text messages, as of an hour or so ago, it doesn't play a sound, only vibrates. I double and tripled checked that a sound should play -- and it says so. My call ringer plays fine and other sounds work. Any ideas?
This could be part of the same issue as above. But maybe not. Check and ensure the silent switch is not turned to orange on the left hand side of the iPhone.
Also reboot the iPhone if needed then go to the Dial Out keypad and dial *646# this will send an SMS to the iPhone. See if you hear a sound. Ensure volume is all the way up. Do you hear any other sounds? Like when you get email, voicemail, incoming call?

  • Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) at iphone 5?

For me and other people who use Hearing Aid it is very important to us that the new Iphone 5 have HAC-system (telecoil) again. This was a reason I not bought an Iphone 4S because they have remove it. I really really hope Apple changes it back because on the Iphone 4 the HAC-system works. We don't want to have extra stuff to answer the phone, we just want to answer as people who doesn't have hearing aid. Millions of people who have hearing aid hope this !!
Apple, fix the HAC-system again into the next model of Iphone!

  • IPhone hearing aid t-coil (telecoil) compatibility and clicking noises

We happily received our new Verizon iPhone4 a week ago, but, with considerable disappointment, sent it back yesterday ...
This iPhone did not work with the t-coil on my wife's hearing aids. This subject has been discussed previously in these discussion groups, but suggestions like using TTY or adding bluetooth dongles to the hearing aids are simply not acceptable.
    Here are some details ...
My wife wears two Oticon Synchro P hearing aids. They are about 4 years old. They are expensive hearing aids. They have a t-coil setting which she normally uses with telephones, and it works quite well with our Uniden land line phones and our old LG cell phones. The purpose of the t-coil is to inductively couple a telephone or other device to the hearing aid, rather than depending on acoustic coupling which often results in poor sound quality or lots of feedback. With my wife's hearing aids, when turned on, the t-coil does pick up some noise, more like a hum than white noise, but at an acceptable level. When we first tried the iPhone, just placing the iPhone speaker next to the ear with hearing aid with t-coil enabled, caused the noise/hum level to increase noticeably, to a level that was only marginally acceptable. There were other issues, as well.
Except for the noise increase, it did not seem to matter if the t-coil was turned on or off, i.e. there did not seem to be any inductive coupling through the t-coil. Essentially the coupling was acoustic, resulting in poor sound quality.
Last but certainly not least, we also got a loud clicking noise. Once again this was when the iPhone was next to the ear with the hearing aid with t-coil enabled. The noise sounds like a relay clicking, at a rate just slightly faster than I could count. This only occurred in the house, and was gone when we attempted to demonstrate the problem at a Verizon store. I took the iPhone back home determined to find the source of the clicking interference by turning off all the wireless phones and other electronics in the house. When I turned off my Linksys router, an old WRK54G model, the clicks went away. Okay, so I turned the router back on, and turned WIFI off on the iPhone - sure enough, no clicks. And there were no clicks when the t-coil was turned off, or when the iPhone was not in close proximity to the hearing aid (with or without WIFI enabled). So there is a interaction between the WIFI signal, the hearing aid t-coil, and the iPhone in combination.
Next, I tried changing the WIFI wireless channel on the router from channel 1 (2.417 Ghz), to channel 6 (2.442 Ghz), to channel 11 (2.467 Ghz) .. none of this helped, i.e. if WIFI was enabled on the iPhone, and the iPhone was near the hearing aid with t-coil enabled, the clicks were there and very loud.
Next, I looked at some of the router parameters, and noticed that the router sends a short preamble at a default interval of 100 msecs (10 per second) - roughly my guess of the click frequency. Changing this interval to 1000 msec (1 per second) did indeed change the frequency of the clicks to 1 per second!
My theory on this is that we were hearing all the WIFI packets, but most of it sounded like noise, and only the periodic preamble broadcasts were identifiable as clicks. Strange, eh ?
So what now ? Turn off WIFI on the iPhone? No. Change the preamble frequency permanently ? Probably not since I have no clue as to what effect that might have on the various WIFI devices that are used around here. Buy a different router ? Well, maybe, but the iPhone4 only supports 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4Ghz, so it's a toss-up whether or not a newer router would help. Buy new bluetooth hearing aids ? Not anytime soon. Buy the bluetooth add-on gizmo ? Probably not ... Few hearing impaired people really want all that hardware - they just want their t-coils to work.
In the end, we didn't try another unit ... we simply gave up and sent the iPhone back. Since we really like the iPhone, we'll wait until the iPhone5 comes out, try that, and if it doesn't work, we'll find an Android phone from LG or some other manufacturer that does work.
    PS
Apple says the iPhone4 CDMA has an M4,T4 (i.e. very good) rating for hearing aid compatibility, "Based on testing conducted by an independent laboratory following the ANSI standard C63.19, "American National Standard for Methods of Measurement of Compatibility between Wireless Communications Devices and Hearing Aids."" I think Apple needs to find a different lab, or do in-house testing of the top 10 hearing aids. A very large group of potential customers would appreciate it.

I installed the iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and I enabled the "Hearing Aid Mode". The loud clicking noise went away so now my wife can use my phone with that option enable.  She has the hearing aids.
Currently she has a Droid and can hear ok using the t-coil.  She has never been able to use the iPhone with her T-switch because of the loud clicking noise.
So we got an iPhone 4S for her thinking that option would be available on the iPhone 4S (Hearing Aid Mode).  She hears the loud clicking noise because the "Hearing Aid Mode" option is missing on the iPhone 4S (not sure why that option does not show up - see other post).
We are going to have to return the 4S since it does not work with her hearing aid :-(.
I guess another option is to give her my old iPhone 4 and I take the iPhone 4S :-).  We only have 3 days to return the phone, so we may return the 4S and have her test my iphone 4 for a month or so to see if it really works.
So my comment is you may want to try an iPhone 4 again with iOS 5 installed and enable the "Hearing Aid Mode" option.

  • IPhone 4...still doesn't work with hearing aids

Well. Among all the great features the iPhone offers, I still see no sign that it will be compatible for people with hearing aids and/or cochlear implants...again.
Seriously, this is the iPhone 4. What gives?
Many phones out there have this compatibility, why does Apple continue to neglect the hard of hearing? Same with iTunes not having movies with captions/subtitles. Sure some do, but hardly any new ones or popular ones.
My god if Apple would fix this I would be TOTALLY buying all their products.
Message was edited by: A Deaf Boy

Apple should have made it compatible, especially with the ASL-friendly spin that's being put on the front facing camera.
Although the phone doesn't have a proper T-coil rating, there are options that will work around the limitation. Some of the newer instruments out there are bluetooth compatible by way of NFMI - http://www.oticonusa.com/Oticon/Professionals/professional_products/dual/streame r.html
Another, more generic, option would accept bluetooth connectivity from the phone and convert it by way of neck loop to something you could use with your T-coil program - http://www.amazon.com/Artone-Bluetooth-Neckloop-Alternative-Headsets/dp/B000TZ1R 08
There are several variations on the same theme offered from the big hearing aid manufacturers. Obviously not an ideal solution, but it's better than nothing.

  • IPhone 4 hearing aid compatible?

I've spent time looking over the specs for the iPhone 4 on the Apple.com website, and I cannot find any reference to hearing aid (i.e., telecoil) compatibility. Anyone know if this will play nice with the telecoil? I use a cochlear implant, and using a phone that will not interact with a telecoil isn't an option for me. I'm dying to upgrade from my currently horribly inadequate cell phone.

    The Apple site now says:
    Rating for Hearing Aids
    3G network - 850/1900MHz: M4, T4
    2G network - 850MHz: M3, T3
    2G network - 1900MHz: M2, T3
The reason for the difference in T numbers is that the various network technologies use different frequencies, powers, and modulation schemes. This affects the nature of the interference from the radios and how much is picked up by the telecoil during transmission (this is in addition to the noise caused by the CPU and other electronics). My experience with the RAZR is that 2G is much worse than 3G, so these numbers make sense.
The M numbers seem to reflect the same pattern of interference, but must be measured without feedback present, because, for me at least, audio feedback kills everything else and gives it an M0 rating.
Has anyone successfully used any phone with their mic?

  • Hearing aid mode

I have a iphone 4 and love it, still learning stuff, my question is how can I get my hearing aid mode to stay on? It stays on for a few seconds then shuts off.....

        Hi dodgehemi,
I'm glad that you are loving your iPhone 4! While you are able to connect your hearing aid to your phone, it may not stay connect due to compatibility issues. Please see this link

  • Hearing aid phone questions

1-Can I use that iphone with a hearing aid? And how does the phone itself compare with other cell phones. I adore that phone to surf the web, check email, and maybe play some games but will it do as a phone?
2- I toss my phone into my backpack or handbag or pocket. Will I need a protective case? I did browse this topic on cases but I would prefer not to bother if the screen is sturdy enough.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Depends. There was a thread about this a while back that cast a not to favorable light on the iPhone's compatibility with hearing devices. I personally don't know much about it.
If you are going to throw it in a bag or backpack then I would invest in a case to avoid scratches. I keep mine in my front pocket with nothing else so I don't worry about a case or screen protector.

  • IPhone 5s with hearing aids via Bluetooth. Need to use the phone for voice, what's the best distance that the mic will pick up your voice

I wear hearing aids that are made for Apple, the audio will go into the hearing aids via Bluetooth. I'll need to use my phone for voice only.. I drive for work and have a wok oh one too and both are synced to a bluetooh headset (LG). I'm trying to figure out how to talk on both phones ( use speakerphone on work phone?) without using a bluretooh headset.  I don't know the range of the microphone on the IPHON, thinking about hanging it around my neck or put the phone into a stand/holder on the dash and use the speakerphone feature.  Looking for ideas to make this simple

You can't do anything with that problem.
Take your iPhone to the closest Apple Store and they will give you new one for 200€/$ or if you bought your iPhone in less than 12 months you will get it for free.

  • Hearing Aids try to pair with multiple Devices!

My wife just got a pair of Starkey Halo hearing aids, and we've had some problems getting them paired successfully, consistently, and keeping them paired.
One key problem is our household has multiple iOS devices (iPhone 5, 6, 6+, iPad Air, iPod Touch) and the Starkey's appear to have infected them all, and I suspect this is because we utilize a single iTunes account for all our devices.
My wife uses the iPhone 6, and the hearing aids were paired there.  This morning I noticed them paired on my 6+ and I'm assuming they are showing up on the other devices as well.  This morning I deleted the hearing aids from my phone and now I'm at work, miles away, and they are back...
How can I stop this from happening?  Do I need to setup a 2nd iTunes account for the wife to use?

You might need to take some extra steps to make sure the Halos and you phone competely forget about each other. Try the following --
    1. On both phones, make sure you are each connected to the correct iTunes account.
    2. With your wife, her phone and your phone nearby, open Settings->General->Accessibility->Hearing Aids->(your wife's hearing aids) then select "Forget this device."
    3. Ask your wife to make sure her hearing aids are connected to her phone.
    4. Have your wife remove the batteries from her hearing aids.
    5. Power down both phones.
    6. Have your wife power up her phone. wait until the TruLink app is fully aware of her hearing aids before you power up your phone.
I think that should do it. Let us know.

    Greetings
Received a new pair of hearing aids aweek ago,  Resound Linx.  Very nice indeed.

  • My hearing aid compatible is not there anymore, I can no longer hear with my hearing aid in my ear

I updated my iPhone 4 Verizon , now my hearing aid setting are gone and cannot hear anything with my iPhone to my ear, except a loud bussing sound.

Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall.
