Hi, I have a Phonak Audeo Smart hearing aid, connected via a Phonak iCom Bluetooth system to my iPhone 4. The bluetooth pairs and connects without a problem, I can hear the call and hang up via the main iCom button, but I cannot hear the call ringing in and so I don't know when I receive a call and don't know how to answer it. The connection seems to be made automatically but I don't know that it has happened. I have the latest IOS, I've tried different iPhone ring tones and also tried silent mode so the phone itself doesn't ring at all, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

AND I ALSO CANNOT UPDATE MY APPS?? DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THE SPEAKER AND APP PROBLEM???

i do know that apple is working on some hearing aids that work with the iphone directly. so that should help her out a lot when it comes out

I am curious if possibly the hotel has some sort of VOIP block on. Have you tried Skype? Did you talk to the hotel staff? My husband is traveling to Milan in a couple of days and I wonder if he will run into the same issue. He has had no problems from Istanbul but he is staying in a corporate apartment there. If your iPhone is recognized by the computer, but not seen by iTunes, you may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service, as described in this article -

Don't jump all the way to restoring just yet. Check to make sure there's nothing in the headphone jack, and nothing covering the microphones (including the noise cancelling microphone at the top next to the headset jack)
1. Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
2. Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
3. Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
4. Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

With Macintosh Computers there is no Finder or Desktop icon for iPhone. Just unplug the iPhone. In iTunes application this is different and you can so-called eject it if you want.

If there's an Apple store nearby make an appointment with the genius bar to have it checked. Be sure to sync it and back it up, as well as import your photos and videos to your computer and back up your contacts separately (such as by sync them with iCloud) in case it needs to be replaced.

That is probably a lot of stuff you do not want on your iPhone. So this can be handled a few different was. For you current situation, you can delete the apps directly on your iPhone by holding on the app until it starts to jiggle and then tap on the X of all the apps that you do not want. The second thing you can do is before you sync with iTunes, look at the app section on your iPhone to know what gets transfer to it and you can deselect items that you do not want. Lastly, if you download content on your iPad and it is a universal app, you can actually download it directly to your iPhone by looking at your past purchases and download it directly from the App Store. Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

There's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes. Look for that.
iCloud does not store music. If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer.
