Hearing only one audio channel in source window & in timeline

Hi all,
As most of you I get a lot of footage where the audio is split - left channel for gun-mic\\front-mic and right channel for neck mic.
A lot of times I want to preview only one audio channel in the source window.
I cant find a way to do it.
Also whan I try to hear\monitor only one channel when the clip is in the timeline - its a problem -
the only way I know is by using the fill Left\Fill right effect - it is good when I do the final mix
but sometimes I just want to hear one of the channels.
without the tidius way of adding an effect just to preview something and then deleting it.
I'm sure there a way to do this - right?
thanks!

Thank you very much for replying
Select the clip in the Project Window and duplicate.
Select duplicated clip > clip > Audio Options > Source Channel Mapping.
Disable one of the channel and hit OK
Place this clip on the timeline and ALT + double click so it will open in the Source Monitor.
This is a very messy and unconfterble way to work - because I need to toggle this every time I want to switch channels to monitor.
Instead of adding the effect fill left/right you can toggle the effect on and off for the whole track in the Audio mixer.
This is a nice solution when I work on the timeline - but it won't help when I go on the source footage.
I think the only way to switch channels for a quick preview in premiere is by buying a Sound card with a channel switcher - or using a mixer...
so dissapointing...

  • Only One Audio Channel [Left]

I thought that my right channel was not working but after examining the problem, I have discovered that both audio channels work on my MacBook but they both only play from the left speaker. After playing with the balance in system preferences, both the right and the left channel play from the left speaker. Strangely, when I plug in my headphones, the left and right channels play as they should. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, do you know how to resolve it?
Apple support suggested that I reset my PRAM & VRAM, and I did, but it didn't resolve the problem.

Took my MacBook to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store...
Bad News: It is a hardware problem that must be fixed, which means my brand new MacBook has to go away.
Good News: Apple is going to replace my MacBook with a new one. They're even custom-building it all over again from scratch. Very nice of them.
More Bad News: I am HUGELY inconvenienced because now I have to erase information from the MacBook that took hours to transfer, uninstall my upgraded RAM and downgrade it to stock, go several days without my new Mac because Apple refuses to ship the new one before the old one is returned, and finally invest even more time restoring information to the new Mac...shouldn't Apple compensate their customers for such a huge inconvenience? I didn't pay nearly $2000 to buy a broken computer only to return it and wait a week for another one.
Although I feel that the methods of replacing my MacBook could be handled much better, I am glad that Apple is at least replacing my machine (which is more than I can say for some other PC Manufacturers...cough HP cough).

  • Only one audio channel in timeline?

I’m working in FCP 6.06 and I don’t how or why it’s happened but I only have one audio track in the timeline. The audio is set to dual track mono. I’ve tried copying and pasting the track from channel A1 to A2 but it doesn’t work. I assume there is some important reason mono would be displayed in two tracks. Is there some way for me to fix this?

Yes, it’s centered already. Very strange. Don’t know what I did when I brought two-channel mono from one sequence to another that caused it to become a single mono instead of dual mono. If the quality does not suffer then I guess it makes no practical difference as long as the sound is coming equally from both speakers.
Thank you both for helping me out.

  • Only one audio channel in burned DVD

I've completed a slideshow project in iMovie, moved it over to iDVD and burned it. However, when I play the finished DVD in a standard DVD player, only the RIGHT channel of the background music plays. What am I missing? Thank you...

  • IPhone 4S plays only one audio channel

in my new Camry with a Bluetooth connection. I have verified it is not in the car settings by hooking up an identical iPhone 4S with the same software. All settings relating to anything audio seem to me the same.

    Hello beckerd,
Testing another device is one of the first things I would have done as well. I was researching the issue you describe and found an article that I feel has the best advice to help troubleshoot the issue.
Named iOS: How to troubleshoot Bluetooth connections it can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4562.
Begin troubleshooting with these preliminary steps.
Check that you are in range of the Bluetooth device with which you are trying to pair your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Most Bluetooth devices have a range of approximately 30 feet.
On your iOS device, tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your device in the list. If your device says Not Connected, tap the name of your device to attempt to connect it.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and then on again.
Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is turned on and fully charged or connected to power.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and locate the Bluetooth accessory you are currently connected to or attempting to connect to. Then tap > and Forget this Device. Try to pair your Bluetooth accessory again.
Note: You may need to re-enter your Bluetooth accessory PIN if your accessory requires one. Some common PINs are 0000, 1111, and 1234.
Restart your Bluetooth accessory by turning it off and then on again1.
Update your device to the latest version of software. See how to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If your Bluetooth accessory has upgradeable firmware, check to see that you have the latest version1, 2.
    Additional Information
If the steps above have not resolved the Bluetooth behavior you are experiencing, perform a software restore in iTunes.
If the issue persists after restoring your iOS device in iTunes, contact Apple for support and service options.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Drop-out of one audio channel

Hello all. When I drag a clip into the canvas, only one audio channel appears. This started about a day ago. No idea why it happened. I never had a problem before. I always had two channels. I know it's not the clips or my tape deck -- I tested them. I assume I changed an audio preference by accident. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks. M

how about the track assignment switches on the let of your timeline? are they in order? If any of them appear disconnected (seperated) then your channels wont be placed on the timeline. If so click to toggle the connection on and of.

  • I'm deaf in one ear and need a stereo-to-mono earbud so I can use my iPod and iPhone. It is not good being able to hear only one channel. Can Apple consider making such a thing for those of use who need such a thing?

Thanks...now I need to do something about the iPod.
I'm not sure which version iPod you have, but I just checked my iPod nano (current generation) and it also has a Mono Audio setting in Settings>General>Accessibility.

  • Using sequence as source, but only one audio track avail

So I have created a "raw" sequence containing multiple source clips. The source clips have 4 channels of audio and 1 channel of video. When I create my sequence, I see all of my channels....great.
However, when I load the "raw" sequence into the source monitor...I no longer have access to my 4 channels of audio independently. I simply get one audio source track and the audio is mixed....as it appears in the timeline.
When I create a new "raw" sequence, I select multichannel for the master. I've tried every track type (mono, standard, adaptive)...and still I only get one audio channel when the sequence is loaded into the source monitor.
I watched several tutorials about nesting, but there is little discussion about multiple audio tracks.
    Thanks...

Its kind of the point of using a a nest.  ( a pre comp if you like)
Nothing stops the editor going back to the source of the nest to work on the individual assets.  These will update automatically into the nest.

  • Stupidly only recorded onto one audio channel  when filming.

I stupidly only recorded to one audio channel when filming. Is there any way to get imovie to duplicate the recorded track onto the other channel?

I think if you open your video in Quicktime Pro you will be able to save as mono audio with both channels the same.

  • Premiere 7 - stereo sound exports without one audio channel

    Hi there.
I have a strange problem with Adobe Premiere 7.0.
Every time I export a wideo it looses one audio channel - the right one. I have no idea why.
I have a stereo audio file in my Timeline and it plays in stereo during editing.
I choose stereo sound for export, try different codecs and formats but nothing helps. After rendering the movie lacks the right audio channel.
I've double-checked the source audio file in GoldWave - it does have the sound in both channels.
Then I've double-checked the audio from the rendered movie - no right channel.
What might be the source of this problem?
    Thank you for you help.
    Best regards,
    Szymon.

Thank you for your answer A.T.
The screens were from the GoldWave program (similar to Audacity). I've checked the original and rendered versions in Adobre Premiere. The rendered one does not have audio channel.
Source audio: wav, 24 bit PCM, 2 channels, 44100 Hz (but it happens with every audio I've tried).
    Project Settings:
    HDTV 720p, 25 fps
    audio 48000 Hz
    Export settings:
MPEG2 PAL 720p 25 fps MainConcept MPEG Video codec

  • Sending Sequence to Motion - Only One Audio Track Goes

When I send a sequence in FCP over to Motion (using the "Send To" function), the sequence only has one audio channel in Motion even though the original sequence has a stereo pair of tracks. I'm sure I'm missing something easy but sure can't find an answer after digging around here and in other sources.
    Suggestions?

The single audio channel in Motion can act as a Stereo Bus, so the audio clip is probably stereo. Click on it and have a look at Audio Track in the Inspector. If it is a mono track, and i do get this from time to time, i usually export an AIFF from fcp and import that into motion.

  • How do I select just one audio channel in Final Cut Pro X?

I know this has been asked and answered somewehre... and I'm pretty sure the answer is simple. But I don't have hour's to search the net.
And the FCPX "Help" feature just ****** me off....
I recorded voice on channel 2 and shotgun nat.sound on channel 1.
I only want the voice track (channel 2) to playback in stereo.
I have already edited the video so I don't want to re-import the raw video to seperate out just the channel 2 voice track.
How do I select just one audio channel in the timeline, then pan it so it plays back in both the L and R channel?
Also, some of the audio was recorded with a air conditioner running in the background.  Any suggestions on best audio filers to remove or lessen it?
    Thanks, Barry

I think you want to select the clip in the Timeline, choose the Inspector and then Audio, dual mono.
You can even do this by selecting multiple clips.
In the Event Browser as well.

  • New FIOS install-only one audio channel

FIOS TV is great except that now I only have one audio channel (L) from my old(er) 5.1 Sony Home Theater.   FIOS was installed today replacing an a Direct TV setup which was at least able to play left, center and right (L,C,R).   I have no idea why I only have one speaker playing since the installer used the same plug ins that I had connected to my Direct TV.   Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What kind of cable(s) are you using for the connection to the home theater? Is the cable(s) coming from the Verizon cable box or from the TV?
If you are using two RCA audio cables (red and white), then one may be defective or not fully plugged in. Left is white and right is red, so check the one going to the red connector. You could try swapping the red and white cables. If your setup now has only right channel, the problem is with the "red" cable.
If you are using digital coax or fiber optic cable, then I would suspect the device connected to the home theater (either TV or STB/DVR).

  • Why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows with iTunes 10.5.1?

why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows since iTunes 10.5.1?

Assuming Apple doesn't eviscerate the files of the secondary graphics with another upgrade, there could be a plug in that reads the graphic and runs along side iTunes..we should get someone or Apple to program an alternative If we have to accept this downgrade in iTunes proper.
I've developed a quick workaround, and am still hoping Apple will fix this!
Go To Get Info on the tune you want to see secondary artwork for.
    Go To the Artwork tab
Drag the back cover to the desktop, and it will create a new jpg you can open with quick viw or prieview where you can see it large!
you end up with a lot of jpgs on the desktop to discard!
