Hearing the audio when Capturing video

You folks are the best. My new question deals with capturing video. I can only hear the audio if i go th the clip settings and check the audio box. I know there is a way to have that automaticly happen every time I capture. I am baffled. I have tried to find a way in all the set up things and can't. What have I done or what am I doing wrong? It did it in my other Mac, until I updated.
Do I have to check that box every time?

I can't hear the audio in streaming videos. Un- and reinstalling Flash did not help. What now?

I no longer hear the audio when I try to watch videos in Firefox, though MP3s play just fine. Everything is OK when I switch to Internet Explorer, so the problem appears to be with the browser and not with the Flash plug-in or the websites in question. Just to be sure, I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, but there was no improvement.

Try using a photo import utility or application for this instead of doing it the archaic manual way. Even Windoze includes a scanner and camera wizard that can be used for this.

A way to adjust audio when capturing video?

I transfered some video/audio and am having distortion in some audio.
The original audio does not peak and when I captured it in Premiere CS6, it is not peaking out, but when I play back, I can hear occasional distortion. The video is up at:

Does this sound like it is overmodulating or is something else happening?
Is there a way to adjust audio when capturing audio or is it a straight feed? Wondering if I can lower the audio input to try to fix.

How are you capturing the content? Because in my experince premiere doesn't have a way to adjust the audio levels of what your capturing. However if you post how you are capturing the footage in more detail I might be able to help. Please tell me exactly how you have everything hooked up.
For example if you have the camera hooked straight to the computer or if you're using a capture card if so what kind. Some capture cards have audio gain settings which might be causing the issue. Also some decks and cameras have audio playback volume settings which can also cause audio to be sent to premiere louder than what it started as. So if you give more detail I may be able to offer some sort of help.
One thing you might try though to remove that distortion is too add a lowpass filter to the audio, and start off by setting the low pass filter to like 3000 and just adjust by 500 up or down from there until the distortion goes away. I've had to do this in the past with audio that's distorted before. (Although I haven't experinced the specific issue you're experincing before.) Although it will make the persons voice sound muffled it will take most of the distortion out. Which getting rid of distortion at the cost of making it sound somewhat muffled is a decent trade off if worse comes to worse and you can't get the issue figured out.

I cannot hear the audio attached to video files.

When I load in a video file saved as a .avi format that has audio and video included I cannot hear the audio. All that is coming out is what sounds like a swamp wildlife soundtrack on every video (Which is really odd).
How do I correct this problem for Adobe Premier Elements 13?

Please determine whether or not your recording device is recording with a variable frame rate.
To do that, take the file into a video audio properties readout program such as MediaInfo (Tree View). If you see 3 frames rates given
for the video, then your video was recorded with a variable frame rate. Premiere Elements often does not usually fare well in that type of
situation. If frame rate found as variable type, next step would be taking the video into HandBrake and converting it to a H.264.mp4 files with a constant frame rate of 29.97 frames per second rather than a variable frame rate.

Add On...MediaInfo is a free program and extremely useful, however its download and install can be flawed with unwanted carry along
software. Proceed with caution. If you can get your variable vs constant frame rate information from another source (like the manufacturer of your recording device) best do that. The following is listed as a safe download

Cannot hear audio when capturing video.

I'm an owner of a skate shop. I doing filming frequently, and just recently got my first Mac computer. I got FCE4 for capturing and editing my footage for a video that I'm working on. Just started using it today, have no idea how to get the audio to play WHILE I'm capturing the tape. It will play in the timeline after it's done capturing, but I'd like to be able to hear it (without plugging in headphones or speakers to the camera) while I'm capturing it. A friend told me it could possibly be an easy fix... any suggestions? Is it something as easy as checking or unchecking a box????

Does your camera have a small built in speaker?
That will work if the volume is turned up.

On My iphone 4s i cant hear the audio when i plug in my headphones

Ever since i got my iPhone 4s every time i plug my headphones into my phone and try to listen to music or a youtube video i can barely hear the sound at all even if the volume is all the way up. I don't know what to do. The same thing happened with the other i phone 4s i had before this. Can someone please tell me how to fix it.

If the audio volume is very low when using a headset, make sure you've tried all the steps from this article:

No sound through stereo headset
Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
Try a different song or video.
Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.

Is there a way to mute audio when capturing video?

I have the FCPX installed and want to background capture video without listening to the audio. There was a small preview checkbox with the audio meteres in FCP 7. Is there a similar option in FCPX?

Yea, that certainly works, but it doesn't let me do anything else that requires listening to audio.

Can't hear the Audio on a video sent via text.

Sometimes my phone won't play the audio part of a video that was sent to me via text. Yet the same text was sent to my husbands iphone and the audio is fine. The video plays on my phone but you can't hear anything. And yes the volume is turned up:) Any thoughts?

I'm actually being overwhelmed by thoughts on this one right now. After all, this is a very odd situation and we intend on fixing it ASAP.
Now, the most important question I can ask is if this only happens with videos texts that audio cuts out? Or is this happening at all during calls, while playing YouTube clips, etc.? If it's just text messages, do you use a third party messaging application or the stock application? If it's a third party app, please uninstall it. But, let's assume we're on the stock app. For starters, please start by removing the SIM for at least 60 seconds so as to refresh your phone with our network. Then go ahead and delete your old text message threads so as to give you a fresh start. Finally, please shoot a video text to yourself, test, and update us on your findings so we can proceed if necessary.

I have recently updated my Apple TV (gen 2) and now Airplay video won't work. I can hear the audio, but no video. I have unplugged, replugged, restarted. Help! This problem is all post-upgrade.

First time using this site; not sure if I'm doing it right.
My apple tv which has always worked beautifully is not picking up airplay from my ipad. It is picking up the audio, and it will certainly do that "mirroring" thing where you watch a grainy computer screen on your tv, but it won't work the way it used to. Any help? I have plugged and unplugged, reset and restarted everthing to no avail. Icons are available, I see the apple tv option on all devices but it just won't do it's thing. Help!

Sometimes a simple power cycle of your your wireless network can resolve some AirPlay issues. I would also recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close.

How to Mute audio when capturing

Does anyone know how to mute the audio when capturing HDV. The preview check box is only available when capturing dv. I'd like to be able to use the computer's sound for other things while capturing

Hi Ian, actually there is no "Preview" button in the HDV specific Log and Capture window (which is different from the normal Log and Capture window) so there is no way to mute the audio passthrough when capturing HDV.

I would think you would drop down the audio level lines in the "Stereo" tab (FCP 6.0.6 view to me) in the clip's video window.
But then again, in my old version, I can't play two clips at once. But I figure if the newer FCP allow you to do that, then that's what I would do.

My iMovie is skipping like crazy when I try to edit and then goes to a black screen and you can only hear the audio!?!? What's happening??

I use iMovie almost everyday for Youtube videos. I have nothing in my imovie except the 5 clips that I'm editing now. I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Selecting microphone when capturing video from the webcam

Using Final Cut Pro X
I want to capture video from my webcam into Final Cut. I have a USB microphone (Yeti) with which I want to record the audio. I cannot find an option to select my input source for audio when capturing this footage. Final Cut seems to default to my microphone on my webcam, which causes echoing and noise. I can select the USB mic when doing a voiceover, but when I capture video I cannot find an option to select my input. I've made my USB mic my default device in Sys Prefs, but that doesn't work. Any other ideas?
Options
1. Figure out how to change the default input for webcam capture in Final Cut
OR
2. Use another program. I've also tried to do the same in both QuickTime and iMovie, and they both capture audio only from the webcam as well.
Everything I've found online talks about voiceover. I don't want that. I want to capture video with it.
Suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

I do still have an issue that I cannot figure out. I'm using the same mic for webcam recording (now in QT thanks to Luis) and in Final Cut for voiceovers. Though I'm still on the same Mic the sound is not the same. It's close, but the sound on the voiceover sounds cleaner and clearer. I'm sitting in the same spot speaking the same way, but the sound quality difference is noticable. Not sure why.
It seems that the difference is in how each software deals with it.
It may be that QT is sampling audio differently from FCP X somehow, or using a different audio codec or whatever.
Just guessing, I really have no concrete knowledge.
Oh, wait: there are a few things that I can notice, after trying a small example: the QT audio is AAC at 44.1 KHz,
the FCP X is AIFF at 48KHz. Compression and sample rate are different.

Cannot see video on my canvas, just hear the audio

I do not know how this happened, I been working on layers, moved v1 up to v2 when doing layer and all of sudden, I double-click on the timeline to see it in the canvas, and I just hear the audio and do not see the video. I did some research and they said to delete my preference plist list and user of final cut express, and i almost had a heart attack, I lost everything, hours of work. Fortunately, I went back to the trash to retrieve and I had my video.
I am working on a video for a dear friend, daughter's party.

Where are you saving your project files? It sounds as if you deleted the wrong files. Trashing preferences does not require trashing any folders that can contain project files or media. If you're trashing a folder, you're sending the wrong items to the trash.

Video Ipod 30 GB, I can hear the audio but video won't play

Hi,
I got the 30 GB Ipod around a year ago but never really used it (don't ask why). Anyway two days ago I decided to upload my songs and videos onto it. The videos I've got play on my computer on quicktime (they're mp4), but when they're uploaded onto my ipod I can only hear the audio, but I can't see the video. I'm hoping someone can help!

Hi, I have the opposite going on with my Ipod. I hardly use the video function for my ipod, I had 1 video on there that took forever to get right, so I gave up. But now I have 2 more and I can't hear the audio but can see the video. The video that I had originally I can hear, but don't remember what I did to hear it, Can you help me?
