Heartbeat sound suddenly quieter!!

I put the heartbeat sound from imovie effects into my film and it was fine: I could adjust the volume within frames etc. and it played back perfectly. But I just watched it for the sixth time and suddenly the heartbeat sound is very quiet. I have all the volumes I can find turned all the way up. Not only that, but it is also very quiet when it is played FROM THE MENU. That is, when I double-click heartbeat in the menu, the volume is very low. Everything else is nice and loud. ***?!? This is messing up my film, and I cannot find a way to adjust the volume of this one sound effect. Please help!!

Here's what worked for me. It's not a workaround, this acutally solved the problem and I haven't had speaker issues since.
Go to "Activity Monitor" (you can hold "Command" "Shift" and press "U" if you're on the desktop).
Locate "coreaudiod" under "All Processes"
Right click it and click on "Quit"
After several seconds, "coreaudiod" will restart on it's own and your speakers will return to normal.
I tested this by restarting to see if it was a fluke workaround. Then I turned it off and waited a day (I had things to do so the waiting a day was easy lol). Turned it on, it was fine. I put it on sleep mode, waited 10 mins. and took it off of sleep mode. It was fine. Everything went back to normal for me.
Let me know if this worked for you.

  • My sound suddenly stopped working, how do i fix this?

my sound suddenly stopped working after i unplugged my headphones, how do i fix this?

    Common problem.
Check the headphone port - if you can see a red light, the port is still live, cutting off the internal speakers.
The cause is a little leaf switch that is pushed over by the jack when you insert it. Sometimes these stick.
Try inserting and removing a jack a few (dozen) times.
If that doesn't free it you may attempt to tease it with a slim non-conducting tool (like a toothpick). Ensure the Mac is not only shut down, but unplugged if you try this.
And be careful; the leaf is fragile and it's an expensive bit to get to and replace, in fact on some models it's directly on the logic board.

  • Bizarre "heartbeat sound" started in left speaker and now won't stop!

At first, I heard this "heartbeat sound" (a pulsing beat almost twice per second) only sporadically, but now it is incessant and begins even before I get the login prompt on my new Macbook Pro.
    Help!
Has anyone else experienced this incredibly annoying sound? Adjusting the volume control has absolutely no effect on this noise.

After much late-night searching for information and fiddling with settings to try and resolve the issue, I finally gave up with no luck. I also tried reboots, turning the machine on and off, and running off battery vs. A/C. NOTHING could stop that sound, and the sound would start about 3 seconds after turning the machine on, and would stop only the instant it would turn off (or Sleep).
I had resolved to wake up early this morning and reinstall the system software, before resorting to taking the machine in for service/exchange.
Well, when I woke up and "un-slept" the computer, that dreaded heartbeat sound was gone!! My machine was quite warm when it started yesterday, and the longer I worked the hotter the machine got, so I'm thinking it was heat related.
If it starts again when the machine gets hot, I will definitely need a replacement.

  • Sound suddenly stops working (Youtube)

    Hi!
Since I installed a Flash Player update 1-2 months ago, the sound in almost half of the videos I watch on Youtube suddenly stops working (usually only in videos that are longer than 10 minutes). First there's a short crackling sound (not all the time, though) and then the sound simply stops, even though the video is still playing. Reloading the page or jumping ahead a few minutes, then going back to the original spot usually only fixes it for less than 5 minutes and if I do that 2 or 3 times, the sound won't even be there for more than a few seconds. Restarting Firefox doesn't help, either. If I want to try again with the same video a few days later, the problem occurs again.
I'm using headphones (Sennheiser HD 201) that are plugged into speakers (Logitech X-140) but I'm 100% sure that those aren't the culprits since I can listen to mp3s, watch videos (avi, mp4, doesn't matter) or play games just fine and the problem has never ever occured while doing that. So it definately has something to do with the update 1-2 months ago and the latest update (maybe a week ago) didn't fix it. I also already saw a few comments on videos I'm experiencing the problem with about the sound suddenly stopping.
    OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
Browser: Firefox (36.0.4) - also tried loading the video in IE11 but all the buttons (quaility settings,...) were missing, so I closed it again.
    Flash Player: 17.0.0.134
Any idea how I can fix the problem and if there's already a fix in the works?

Most of the videos on YouTube these days are HTML5.  If you right-click on the problem video, are you getting About Flash Player, or About HTML5?
If it *is* Flash, do you have the same problem if you disable Hardware Acceleration?  See the section on it in the troubleshooting guide below:

  • Sound suddenly "mutes" (?) when gam

    Hi there,
I have some strange issues with my audigy--card (player?).
I noticed while playing Doom or Black and White 2 - sometimes the sound suddenly mutes... All windows-sounds are still functioning.
This happens quite often in a while... only thing is to restart the game or swith to "window mode" in doom..
This has never happened before until I bought a Logitech Cordless Desktop 3000 in April 2005. I re-installed my system in june - still some probs (and I am no noob...).
Also I noticed sometimes little crackling for example in Tiger Woods 2005 when typing on the keyboard - but only randomly...
I use a nforce2-based motherboard if this hel
    ps.
. and of course windows xp..
Using msinfo32 - there is no conflict on a shared resource for the audigy...
    Sincerly,

Did you check the audio preference pane? The Mac might assume you want to use the audio interface and switch audio to the interface, which wouldn't make any sound if it weren't directly connected to speakers or headphones.

  • Sound suddenly stopped

I was listening to my iPod 5th generation (30gb, video) a few days ago when the sound suddenly stopped. The controls continued to work, as did the display, but no sound came through the headphones. I tried other headphones, and still nothing. I followed the "5 R's", and it still didn't work. I ensured that I have the latest edition of iTunes and software for my iPod, prior to restoring. And THEN, upon restoring, I tried to sync my iPod again to get all of my music back onto it, and after syncing a portion of the music, a dialog box appears in iTunes that says that it can't continue, and that an unknown error occurred. So now I have an iPod that won't sync properly AND won't play any sound. I've only had it about 8-9 months, and I'm really hoping somebody has some knowledge of these problems.
Thanks for reading and trying to help!

This is the closest I could find to what i am experiencing. I have a suspicion that several of my songs may have gotten corrupted but I don't know how or why and much less...how to prevent further corruption!!!
    Here it goes...
All my songs work fine and have worked fine for over a year now. I recently updated itunes and it seems that this is when the problem appeared. (Unless it is a coincidence?) I have now counted six songs out of about 300 that suddenly stop either in the middle of the song or towards the end of the song. The music stops the timer stops but I am able to use the control to go to the next song or even to previous time frame within the same song that suddenly stopped. However when I go to an earlier part of the "stopped" song it can no longer be heard. I use these songs everyday and they were fine before Friday.
What has happened to these particular songs and why? but more to the point how do I fix the problem and how do I prevent it in the future??? Has anyone had this similar trouble?
    Thank you!

  • Sound is Suddenly Quiet

I changed the entire housing on my 8520 and now the various alert sounds are really quiet.  I cranked them all the way up but still they are sounding quietly.  Any thoughts on what to check to get them louder again?

If you changed the entire housing, you might want to be sure that you didn't do something to either cover or move the speakers on the device.  Compare the new housing with the old.  Are all of the openings in the exact same areas?

  • [solved] Sound very quiet

    Sorry, already solved.
"amixer set Front unmute 100%" fixed the problem. Strangely enough, i muted and unmuted each and every playback device via alsamixer many times.
If you have similar problems try these three commands:
    amixer set Master unmute 80%
    amixer set Front unmute 100%
    amixer set Headphone unmute 100%
    Hello,
my sound is very very quiet. To hear something I have to turn my amplifier up to at least 1/2 volume. At that volume level it would usually be enough to be wake the neighbourhood.
I checked with alsamixer if the sound output was muted but it isn't. What's strange is that the sound output worked just fine today but a restart suddenly the sound was very quiet like this.
    Any ideas what's causing this?

  • Suddenly Quiet Earpiece:  Hardware Failure?

About a day after I got my iPhone 3G, I was on a call with my daughter, and suddenly the earpiece audio became very quiet. In subsequent experimentation, when I switched to speaker, I wasn't sure whether the speaker was OK or not, but it also seemed kinda quiet. However, I discovered that the audio level on headphones is fine.
I went to the Apple store, and they showed me how to reboot it (hold down the home and off buttons for a few seconds). After doing that, talking with the Apple-store folks we agreed that the earpiece audio is indeed still very quiet, but I'm pretty confident that the speaker-phone audio is fine, and headphone audio is still definitely fine.
They made an appointment for me at the genius bar this evening, to see if there's any other possible explanation other than a hardware failure.
In the meantime, I'd like to ask if any of you have seen this symptom too. Is this perhaps a known quirk that can be fixed, or perhaps a fairly-common hardware failure?
I certainly haven't dropped it or abused it in any other way, either at the time the audio level fell, or at any time before or after that call.

The genius bar fellow agreed that it must be a hardware problem and replaced the phone. It sounds fine now.

  • Sound suddenly nearly silent on HP Pavillion dv6000

Hi, My dv6000 laptop has suddenly lost any volume on the speakers. This seems to have happened since yesterday when I was using the laptop (extractor fan grill clear), the two speakers at the front suddenly became extremely hot. I wasnt using any sound at the time, but noticed how hot the two front parts had become, since then, no audible sounds.
When I play music at the highest volume you can hear a faint hint of the tune, but only vaguely. With some headphones its fine. I have tried changing all different settings, restarting laptop etc, but no luck. For anybody who has ever got their headphones wet, its a similar sound, quiet and muffled, although the laptop has had no opportunity to come into contact with water. Anybody have any solutions? Thanks

  • Loss of sound suddenly

my pavilion g6 laptop running Win 7 lost sound.
turned unit on and all of a sudden a BIOS update from nowhere started over my home network and since
then i have no sound at all
I have tried a driver reinstall and a restore - no joy - what now and where in heck did this BIOS update come from?Never
seen anything like that before. HELP please!!!!!!
    David

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it.
Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
Click start in search box type Recovery Manager then click yes on user access control then select I need immediate help the select Drivers & application recovery select the driver and install it.
Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
Try to update the driver from hp.com website.
Last step is to run a recovery on the unit before this please back up your data.
If still does not work speaker on the unit has gone bad needs to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the speaker replaced.
Let us know how it goes!
