Heartbroken, my 3 week old imac 21.5 i3 has just died!! Help anyone

Tonight whilst working in Logic 8 my 3 week old imac i3 21.5 just powered off instantly. Not a proper shut down, just like someone flicked of the power supply. Now there is no life at all. I have swapped power cables and and plug sockets, tried the holding in the power button reset. There is no indication of any power from the imac. Totaly dead. Any suggections before I call Apple on Monday morning?

First thing to do, is plug it in, and then move the system to the edge of the desk/table/whatever. Tilt it up as far as you can. Then look in the little grille on the bottom, and see if you can find any green lights. I believe on the 21" model they should be on the right side, but check both sides. They can be a little difficult to find, even if you know what you're looking for. They're usually pretty close to the little cover for the RAM slots, and sometimes you have to look at just the right angle because of the nature of the holes in the grille.
If you see one light, that means that the PSU is almost certainly good. You're getting "trickle" power. Now, while still looking at that green light, press the power button, and see if you see a second light turn on. If not, then you're not getting communication between the PSU and logic board, and it's PROBABLY the logic board that went out, though these issues can be difficult to pin down. Sometimes everything points to the PSU but it's really the logic board, other times it's the other way around.
Either way, you're better off taking it somewhere than calling, unless you call just to set up an appointment somewhere. Since the SMC reset didn't do it, it's a hardware failure and they're going to have to swap something out.
The good news, however, is that the data on your drive is almost certainly still there, and when you get the system back you'll be able to pick up right where you left off.

  • IChat can't find built in iSight on 1 week old iMac

The iChat video preference pane on this 1 week old iMac, reads "This computer does not support video chat".
It can find the built in iSight in other software (Photo Booth, iMovie, Skype), but not in iChat.
It worked perfectly 5 days ago.
The only thing that's changed is that I updated my software using "Software Update".
Can any one help me get iChat video to work? Please help.

    Hi,
The Bandwidth Limit drop down should not be greyed out.
I can think of two possibilities.
    1) Parental Controls is On for this Mac User Account (but I have never heard of this effecting the Bandwidth Limit).
    2) iChat is unable to or has Misread the Internet speed you have.
In the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) what does it say about the Network Status and Capabilities about Internet Speed ?
    I would delete com.apple.ichat.plist
This file in in Your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
Restart iChat afterwards to re-write the .plist
It will also get iChat to check for the camera And the Internet Speed.
Unfortunately deleting this .plist means you may have to reset an Preferences in iChat that you have changed from Default.

    HELP !!

Try troubleshooting the Built-in iSight > How to Troubleshoot iSight
Then if your iSight is still misbehaving:
    1. run the Apple Hardware Test > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
    2. seek support at > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

I have ordered a 800 firewire to 800 firewire cable and am hoping to use the target mode option to copy files from the MBP.
    Is this possible?
    Hope so!
Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Thanks Ogelthorpe.
Just bought an enclosure to try that also.
Hoping the MBP isn't really dead but just feigning death
    Fingers crossed.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Can not connect the iTunes Store, since the last update 2 weeks ago, iOS 6.1.2 has stopped working, help me, please ....

can not connect the iTunes Store, since the last update 2 weeks ago, iOS 6.1.2 has stopped working, help me, please ....

Ok, I am having literally identical issues with Marathon Max.
I try to connect, and it says, "Itunes could not connect to the itunes store, Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I have contacted my ISP, and they ran a full check, and sayed I should be able to connect to pretty much all websites. I did the whole "ipconfig" thing and that was no help. I also tried the "msconfig" thing, and it sayed it did not recognize it as any kind of command, internal or external command or operable program or batch file. Whats strange is I can connect from another computer just fine, but when offered to upgrade itunes I declined for fear of the same thing happpening. I am tempted to just upgrade it and thus demonstrate that itunes has a flaw in their upgrade. I will save this computers diagnostics, and the other one's too, before and after the upgrade. I look forward to sending more feedback regarding this matter

  • Week old IMac G5, Version 10.5.2, goes into "sleep" mode randomly....

My sister has a brand new IMac G5, OS X version 10.5.2, the screen randomly will go black, it still stays on, it's like it goes into sleep mode, but force quit wont work, nothing works, restart is required in order to get out of it.
On another note, when she restarts the computer, and sometimes when she's just starting it up not on a restart, the computer will have colored lines running down the whole screen, when it gets to the blue loading screen, it freezes there, where once again it requires a restart. Problem is, the computer is less than TWO WEEKS OLD. I've had my mac for years and cant figure out the problem, anyone that knows of, or has had similar problems and had them fixed that could help out would be nice. Thanks!

In fact, what your sister has is an intel iMac, not a G5, those were discontinued a couple of years ago. She has telephone support for 90 days and should call Apple immediately for a solution to her problem.

  • I have a 6 week old 4s running 5.1.1 Just started recieving "failed sim" message the other day. This leaves me with no cell service . Service comes back after shutting down and restarting. at least until message reaapears. Has happened three times in two

I have a 6 week old 4s running 5.1.1. Started recieving "failed sim" message yesterday. this leaves me with no cell service. Shutting down and turning back own seems to alleviate problem temporarily. It has happened three times now. Help.

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

  • 2 Week old imac 21.5" 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5 2 Beeps at Start-Up

Hi, I've had my iMac for about 2 weeks now and have noticed when im booting it up I am getting 2 beeps before the Chime then get the Apple logo.
The computer boots up fine and seems to be running ok.
I've been looking around the internet and the 2 beeps mean Incompatible Ram.  I have not changed the Ram or anything its all as was shipped originally.
Does anybody know why this is happening please ?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Some beeps are actually sounds coming from the optical drive heads.  Find an authorized service technician with a quiet room who can diagnose the sounds to determine if they are something to worry about.  Note, you are right at the end of your possible exchange/return policy of most Mac sellers, so you might want to see if you are that first, to determine if the wait for a repair technician is worth your time.

  • Took back two week old imac for new imac

OK so i saw the new models on the internet today and was kinda upset. SO i called my local apple store here and said that i just bought a new imac on feb 13th it was the 20inch with 2gb and 320gb hard drive for $1499 I said can i return it and get the 24in that just came out? I got lucky and was actually talking to the manager on the phone and he said no problem bring it in. So i thought i would give it a try and drive 1 hour to the apple store. Well because it was past the 2 weeks you have to return it (That ended feb 27th) they needed manager approval which i got. Needless to say they wavied the $140 restocking fee and i got the 24inch, 4gb, 640gb HDD Imac. Which by the way is HUGE. SO overall i was impressed that they took great care of me and didnt charge me the restocking fee, they even said they would give me the new price of the one i had if i wanted to keep it, which would have been about $300 but i wanted the faster machine. Well just though i would share my experience with anyone that might want to do the same thing. It seems like apple is allowing exchanges anyway.

I'm i the same boat with JD1983... unfortunately I'm not as lucky. I bought mine on Feb 25th, same type of iMac. But because I bought it in Indonesia (where I currently resides), I don't have the option to bring it in for an exchange.
    I've e-mailed Apple Singapore (Asia HQ) but I still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer. <Edited by Moderator>
We'll see if Apple's policy is the same all over the world or if this can only happen in the US.

Are you running OS X 10.6.2 as indicated on your profile? The OS has been updated a few times since then, in fact OSX 10.6.5 was released last Wednesday. You can download the combo updater here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
It's often advised to 'repair permissions' before and after updating. Utilities>Disk Utility - select Macintosh HD on the left and click on 'repair permissions'.
I seem to remember that some sleep/wake issues were addressed in one of the earlier updates. The combo updater will have all previous updates/revisions incorporated into it.

  • 3 week old Imac - No Airplay icon?

    Hi,
I just bought a new i5 3.1ghz 6970 Imac about 3 weeks ago and just installed mountain lion and bought an apple TV, but there is no Airplay icon anywhere. Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

is Airplay enabled on your AppleTV under settings?
If yes, Have you attempted to airplay through itunes to see if that pops up?
For Airplay Mirroring on your Mac, go into Settings, Display Preferences, and see if Airplay is shown there.

  • Hi there my 2 week old iMac occasionally mode won't restart by pressing mouse or keyboard or power on off switch even though green button at top of screen is illuminated the only way to get it to start is to powr off at wall then

The green light at the top of the screen only indicates that the iSight camera is on.
Reset the SMC > Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Also note that disconnection the power is not a good idea.
If resetting the SMC does not solve the problem, then run the Extended Apple Hardware Test as per > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
or additionally make a appointment at your local Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider >  Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ
