Heat up mac retina pro

i have a problem
I have been changed 2 times the logic board of my mac retina pro, it is still under warranty,
I have emailed and discussed this over the phone with a representative from Apple, however I cannot get clear specification details about the
temperature that the unibody upper part reaches nearby the sound keys. It is just enough to run skype and have a conversation, or just run `brew install wkhtmltopdf` for the unibody to burn my fingers literally!
I think this is a deeper issue, I am very unsatisified because I bougth two retinas, one for my wife and one for me, and hers is 2,100$ and mine is 2.800$ and it came just with 8GB of RAM. And hers never gives problems or heats up, _NEVER_. And mine always heats up that my fingers are burned.
Again my case is this product is just wrong, or I need to be given another machine, no repairs will do with this one.
Could someone please help me chase the issue and point me in the right direction? I really want either the machine to be exchanged with one that works correctly no matter what repair because they have changed the logic board twice without knowing what it has. Or my money back so I can buy the next product version because this product version seems flawed.
I bought a new machine, how can i be given a product that is flawed and burns fingers????
Please help,
Thanks

  • Heat with mac book pro 15 need cooler

i am searching for the right cooler for my mac book pro 15" can someone suggest it to me please

I have the same set up, but I must be doing something wrong, because when I set up the monitor to mirror the laptop the 24" LED screen is blurry and bright. When I have it set up as dual view the 24" LED screen looks good, yet, I have to drag everything over to the larger screen.
How do I set it up as primary screen? Or make mirror screen work?
    Thanks!!!

  • HOT HOT HOT HOT!!! Mac Book Pro Retina, Mid 2012 with 2 external Displays HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!

    Hi,
i think i have a serious heat problem and i am a bit afraid of melting the mac book (It happend before with an older mac book pro, graphic card melted...yes, it did...)
    i own a Retina, Mid 2012
Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
in use with 2 external Monitors, one TB Display and one Eizo (27" same resolution as TB) via display port and doing lots of stats with Stata and R on it and it get hot like **** (temperature monitor says around 95-100° degrees on graphic processor diod and around 80° on the chip.
furthermore, it creates kind of random kernel tasks with % CPU usage up to 500% (i read somewhere it does it to keeps internal cooling up...(??) ) and it is getting really slow... almost unusable.
Is this still healthy and the way it should be when i use it with 2 monitors?
Will i ruin it by using it like this all day long?
Apple says it could handle two displays. I think it can`t without killing itself on the long run (if you still USE it)
any ideas what to do? i allready use a cooling pad for it (cheap revoltec) but it does not really help, the macs and the pads fans run like crazy, its pretty noisy and gets really hot anyway
    Any experiences with 2 displays?
is there anything i can do about it?
    Better cooling pad solutions???
    Any other solutions??
    Any ideas welcome
    Thanks & Best
    Franz

Hm, i cannot reproduce the kernel_task thing right now, but this is my temp after working with 2 screens for 10 minutes. is this normal?
100° cpu, 96° on the diode, and 78 on GPU chip? it even was 82 once.
when do i reach critical limits?
    apple?

if no respond the machine will be forward to apple store for general service

Exactly what model MacBook Pro do you have?
Many MBP's have two graphic processors (gpu's) and if you are using the dedicated graphics processor, your MBP will heat up a lot  more than when the built-in graphics processor is in use.   For example, the current non-Retina MBP's have both a built-in Intel HD 4000 graphics processor and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics processor.
You can control which video processor is in use via System Preferences > Energy Saver.  If you are running Lion (10.7) there is an option for Automatic Graphics Switching which you should turn off (disable) in order to use only the built-in video processor.  In my own experience I have found very few cases where the dedicated gpu gives 'better' performance than the built-in gpu.

  • Whenever Retina Mac Book Pro runs HOT - FCPx runs NOT - And it does so A LOT

These past weeks I have been doing more and more work on the Retina Mac Book Pro. Only thing that has been bugging me is that I cannot seem to rely on its performance. At times FCPx is blazing fast and others so slow that one could think I was running it on an iMac from 1998.
Once it gets slow... It will take about 5 seconds for a clip that I select in the event browser to appear in the viewer. And i.e clicking the inspector will take about 4-8 seconds for it to open...
    So I decided to troubleshoot.
Basically it is VERY simple.. Whenever the fans start churning on the Retina Mac Book Pro, the whole app simply quits performing. Shutting down the computer for about 10 minutes will alleviate the problem. Other strange thing is that no other app seems to be affected by this issue. PPRO, AE, Photoshop, Aperture, Safari etc etc etc... Only FPCx and Motion. I have not experienced this problem on any of my Mac Pros.
Problem is that the fans start spinning like crazy only after 10 min. of working in FCPx. And that with Proxy Media.
I have been noticing that people on newer (Thinner) iMacs are complaining over performance issue and wonder whether those might be heat related as well.
If anyone else are experience such issues, I sure would like to hear about it. And if anyone has suggestions to a possible workaround I too would love to hear about it as this is killing my workflow !
    Thanks
    Specs
rMBP 2.6 GHZ | 512 SSD | 16 GB RAM | 1GB NVIDIA Graphcis (Always set to high performance)
    OS X 10.8.2 | FCPx 10.0.7

me no engineer ... ahh, you did know that!
    but …
Aren't FCPX + M5 the apps in your list which rely most on the graphic card? I'm not familiar with Grand Central and other OS-designs, nor can i confirm a built-in heat-sensor for that part of the Mac, there are sensors erverywhere - why not?  …
But if I had designed the graphic-card as co-processor, this would be essentiell.
And your observation and conclusions make a lot of sense!

Increasingly FCP runs to 104 degrees C when operating. This can damage MAC BOOK PRO RETINA components, shortening their life-span.
Can you suggest what I should do apart from shutting down word documents and other software, Parallels, Windows 7 when using FCP?
I am gravely concerned with this high heat. I have to use a remote keyboard it is so hot, but gravely concerned with with the damage the heat is doing to to MAC BOOK PRO RETINA.
ironic - given I switched to Mac from PC this year JUST for  FCP editing.
BTW - I am a film lecturer advising thousands of K-12 teachers and a have a report to deliver to the Education Department shortly.
    Please advise. Many thanks. Schbang

You didn't mention what sort of work you're doing - if you're just cutting video this shouldn't happen.
My suggestion would be to optimize all of your media to ProRes .
Even though PR is a much larger file it's much easier on the CPU. Playing back compressed media is like rendering all day.
I routinely use an old 2007 MBP with a core 2 duo and FCP7. I can cut and color correct with no problem at all using ProRes LT files. The only time it gets hot is during long renders.
I have the laptop elevated on a pedestal that allows air to pass underneath . During long renders I  point a small fan at it which often cools it enough to shut the internal fans down.
All that said, I know the retina is a more compact design and components are much closer to each other.
So, I'd be interested to hear from another retina owner.
    Good luck.

  • Display of mac book pro retina 13 inch

On august 13th i purchased a mac book pro retina 13.3. It worked good for 3 months and then in November my display stopped working and gave it to apple service center in my college and after 3 days then gave me back saying it was some troubleshooting problem so they disconnected and then reconnected the display.
Now on 3rd January i had some flickering on my screen i restarted it but it nothing helped .Next day what i see is a big black dot on my screen with some horizontal and vertical lines.
straight away i took it to the store and the person there asks me 440 dollars as he thinks its a physical damage.
I mean without a scratch on any part of the laptop, without a crack on a screen or the body how can the display inside the glass screen can be damaged?
Is this the quality of the products ?
i get an answer from the person at apple store that even i dust particle gets stuck while closing the mac book can cause this problem.
Moreover there are no records of the service they did on my mac book in November and now after calling them they say that it will be updated today.
So if the quality so bad of the display that just by opening and closing the mac book the display got damaged?
I really want to know a person whom i can write this problem to?

    Thanks again Ugh,
but I believe the update didnt fix the problem. I tried to do SMC reset several times but the system still hunguing everytime I connect the adapter.
    Any other tips?
    Cheers

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."
Thank you again for your help.

I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station. The Keyboard and mouse work great with the laptop lid open but when closed in the docking station the bluetooth signal does not seem to transmit.  Is there a setting that can be changed to allow an Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to wake the computer while docked?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

my MAc Book PRO 13" Retina display will not update.  It crashes every time I try to do an update.  I have sent in the information on each update but so far nothing back from Apple.  Also it does not matter what I am trying to update, the operating system, and application, each caused the same crash.   This mac book is less than a month old.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed).  Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.
