Heatsink fan connected to motherboard??

I own a K7N420 motherboard. On this motherboard, I have a Globalwin WBK38 heatsink+fan which cools an Athlon XP 1600+ processor. This cooling system has a fan which rotates at 6800 rpm and has a power usage of about 3.5W. At present, it is connected directly to the power supply via the supplied converter cable that changes the 3-pin plug to the normal power supply adapters. Is it dangerous to connect it directly to the motherboard as I want to monitor its speed?

i would not thats a bit to much for a mother board header,some high speed fans have a seperate signal wire that can be plugged to the board to still give the signal,it might be possible to mod yours to do the same

Heatsinks/Fans affecting speed

I'm about to add an Athlon 2400+ cpu (retail box with heatsink/fan included) to my K7T Turbo2 motherboard. I won't be overclocking or anything, just running normally.
My question is, will using a different heatsink/fan, like a Thermaltake Volcano 10, for example, increase my performance at all?
I'd like to use the heatsink/fan included in the retail package to save money, but would using a better heatsink/fan make it run any faster?

Heatsink/fan excessive weight?

I recently purchased a Kingwin K8CU-8025 heatsink/fan to go along with my AMD64 3200+ and K8T NEO FIS2R. However, when it arrived, I noticed that it weighs, according to the site, 2 lbs. In short, should I be concerned? It seems as though a two pound heatsink would exert quite a bit of force on the motherboard, perhaps even to a breaking point.

the old xp's had a limit of @300 grams
the amd 64 has a huge metal back plate which should help, but i don't remember
my heat sink being anywhere near that....maybe a hard drive, but not the hs.

Stock heatsink+fan question

I have an FX55 CPU which was originally installed with the stock HSF.
I needed to remove the HSF and now i want to put it back.The question is:can I use a cooling compound (arctic silver etc) with the stock HSF or must I use the same solid product which was originally on the HSF?

I am not by my system at the moment (using the crap lump they call a pc at work )
But as I remember, no, the release lever is right alongside the ZIF, which is totally obscured by the stock heatsink/fan, which fits snugly into the plastic 'frame' which the ZIF is in.
Care is the main item here, and possible, run the system just before you remove it, and the processor will be hot and the pad softer, I did mine cold and was lucky it didn't leave a leg behind
Was all my fault anyway, replaced my 350 W power supply with a 500 W cheapo from Ebuyer (£14-99), the powersupply looked good, but fried itself (nice smell of burning plastic) and took my motherboard with it (but luckily my chip, memory, graphics and other attached bits survived ! )

i'm planning to get a new heatsink fan, but still wondering, wat will be really good for me, to use with arctic silver 3? how many degree will it reduce?

idle = 45 Celcius
When playing games = 60 Celcius
System temp = 29-32 Celcius
Room Temp = Should be around 17-25 Celcius

I own one, and can tell you it works great. It keeps the CPU temperature right around 40 deg C (+/- 5 deg C), consistently.
Prior to using it, the stock Intel HSF was installed. I saw temperatures around 50 deg C quite often.
Note: there are two versions of the Aero 4: a "lite" version, which uses Aluminum as the heatsink material, and a regular version, which uses Copper as the heatsink material. I own the regular version.
And yes - there are other HSF units out there, made by other companies, which work great too.
Why did I choose the Aero 4? Because of the unique way the fan was mounted on the heatsink. It really does work.
Oh, and I did decide to use Arctic Silver III (and I meticulously followed their application directions.) Unfortunately, I don't have any comparison figures to reference, so I'm unsure how much it helps. I am assuming, though, it did not hurt to use it

good question. According to the User's Guide for FX Series II, Section 3.1.4, Page 3-5, I read the words " ...... without consulting anyone." and also presented few pictures on how to remove the back fan sink.
So I guess ONLY the back fan sink can be removed without voiding warranty. And this only applicable to FX 5900 series!!
The rests I guess not!!

HEATSINK FAN

The heatsink fan in my Mac Pro has become noisy. I have to wear noise-cancelling headphones so I can work at the computer. I was going to replace the heatsink, but when I removed it I saw that the fan was easily removable. The tech manual discusses removal and replacement of the PCIe and processor cage fans and the heatsink, but there is no mention of the heatsink fan. So, I have a few questions:
1. Is there a replacement part for the heatsink fan? If so, what is the part number?
2. Can the fan hub be lubricated? If so, with what?
3. Is this all a fantasy, and must I replace the entire heatsink?
After watching the recent Apple media event, I thought it would be nice if I could avoid all this trouble, and replace my present Mac Pro with the new one. However, this would be a pricey endeavor. Therefore, I would happily accept any and all donations to the cause. (I thought I'd add a bit of levity to bring a smile to your faces).

If you can get access to the fan bearing, some light oil (SAE #10 or "sewing machine" oil) may buy some time. WD-40 is often suggested, but it has a tragic flaw -- it is essentially ALL solvents, and will flash off over time.
If you google the part number of the fan motor, you may find your fan. However the times when I have tried this, i could only buy a minimum of 1,000 pieces. Instead, you can try noting the airflow in Cubic Feet per minute (cfm) and noise generated in Decibels Db or Dba, and try to find a comparable or better fan.

Equium L10-300 Heatsink & Fan exchange

The Fan on my sisters laptop has stopped working making the laptop overheat and switch off.
The laptop is an Equium L10-300.
Also the warranty has lapsed which gives us 2 options, have a professional open it up and change the Fan or do it myself.
Does anyone know the model code for the Heatsink & fan assembly and how do I take the machine apart, I've been trying to find a disassembly guide without much look.

Hmm as far as I know you will need a whole cooling module which was designed especially for this Equium series.
Such special Toshiba parts can be purchased from the Toshiba ASP which is responsible for your country!
I recommend to contact the guys and to order such part.
Furthermore you should ask for the further help regarding the cooling module replacement. The notebook disassembling is not easy and a little bit tricky. People without any experience could damage some other parts during the disassembling procedure. Therefore its really advisable to ask some technicians for a help.

New Build with P965 Platinum - fan connections

Question on the PWRFAN1 fan connection: Can I plug any fan into this? I was thinking of using it for the Video Card fan connection. I'm starting the build and was thinking about doing away with the Zalman cooler fan control as well as not pulling fan power from the PCI-E Power connection. There is also a Northbridge fan connection that's not being used. Can I use this one?

Well, here is the problem. The Zalman VF900 fan that I installed onto the video card has a different plug than the card. So I either hace to change the plug or plug it in somewhere else. The Zalman has the standard 3 pin fan connector, so I figure I could plug it into the Northbridge fan connection or directly to one of the PS power connections. Just want to make sure this would be a problem. Still would like to know that the PWRFAN1 connection is for as it's not indicated in the manual.

Im not to familiar with these forum help lines so Bear with me.
I have a "MSI K9NBPM2-FID" Mobo and I am looking into a Cpu "AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor Model ADO5400DSWOF". This does not come with a Fan/Heatsink, so I am looking into a "Thermaltake / Blue Orb 2 / Socket 775/939/940 CPU Cooling Fan for Intel and AMD Processors".
Will these combonation work together or is modification in my near future?
I read thru the MSI Cpu support listing for my Mobo, and I seen the 5400 in there, but that was not a Black Version. I have also seen listing were my Mobo only accepts Cpu's up to 5200+ ! I'm Kinda lost with that !
That leads me to another question, If yall dont mind. That list tells me what is compatiable with my Mobo. I need to consider the Cpu's with "SINCE 5.8" in the result row right ?

Heatsink/fan recommendation for P4N Diamond?

I bought a P4N Diamond and a P4 630 CPU, but looking for a recommendation for a heatsink and fan.
I bought a Thermaltake CL-P0092 (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/coolers/cl-p0092silent775/cl-p0092silent775.htm#logoInfo) and it does not fit. The copper base plate is so wide that it rests on top of the capaciors and does not make contact with the CPU. The heat pipes also protrude too far and depending which way I face it they either prevent the base plate from making good contact with the CPU, or leans against the chipset's heat sink.
Any suggesstions? Stock cooling is not terrible, but I am looking for something a bit better that will actually fit well on this motherboard

yup, that's a pretty bad cut or a pretty badly designed heatsink (in terms of not following specs).
OK, back to your question. I've heard of users here using ThermalRight XP-90 with a 120mm fan.
Personally I'd like to have an orb or sunflower shape fan. The reason is you still need to blow air on those CPU VREG (voltage regulator) area. Those MOSFETs are running pretty hot especially you place in a dual core CPU, and they are exposed without heatsinks. If you used a horizontal fin like this thermaltake, that means only the side MOSFETs will have airflow, those in between I/O Plate and CPU socket (I call it North phase) will not have good airflow. This is not good at all!
Keep this in mind while you're hunting for a new fan. (I am too! )

PS Fan Connect on KT3 Ultra

This is a continuation of my exciting adventures with my new Enermax 430W PS (model EG465P-VE. NOTE- see Power Supply and AGP Voltage thread). Since this PS comes with a temp/fan sensor wire, I decided to hook it up to the PS FAN plug on the top right of the motherboard (behind the last DIMM slot). WHERE'S MY READOUT?? The BIOS shows nothing. Is it me?, the BIOS? (version 5.3), the PS?, the motherboard? Any help would be appreciated!

Check page 2-16 of the manual to see that the speed sensor pins on PSFAN1 and NBFAN1 are NC (not connected). The W83697 (hardware monitor chip used on the board) data sheet also says only two fan speeds are monitored:

What good is it? Your guess is as good as anyone else's. I just use it as another convenient place to hook up another case fan instead of eating up another PSU connector.

Extremely noisy fan and burning motherboard

Hi, I got HP dv5 2070us laptop a couple years ago and decided to dust out the fans and stuff. So I brought my laptop to the computer service office to clean it.
After the clean up, my fan got even louder than before! Roaring like crazy.
So I tried to figure out what was wrong with it. Downloaded some software like Speedfan and Aida64 to check out the temperatures of the CPU, motherboard and so on. Both mentioned programs shows that my motherboard is 87C (189F) ! and this temperature is fixed, doesn't change all day long, while the CPU temperatures are changing.
Maybe this is the reason of the noisy fan. What is more, computer doesn't shut down. The screen is black but fans are working even after 10mins. The only way for a completely shut it down is to press the power button.
Does anyone one how to solve this problem?

Try figuring out what's causing the noise.
Is it a vibration? Try a mechanic's stethoscope if you can find one; or just use a thin, long bladed screwdriver to amplify the noise. Cleaning the fan blades of accumulated crud will improve their balance. Occasionally, sheet metal or a loose screw will pick up the vibration and amplify it.
Is it a bearing or bush that's starting to wear? Maybe it's new fan time - nothing is forever!
Is it the rush of air? They make quieter fans, although the quiet ones don't always cool as well. (I have a dual 800MHz Quicksilver that was fitted with a quiet fan, and you could have grilled bacon on the heatsink - I wound up with a high-powered fan that I can hear in the next room.... but a cool Mac!)
Try measuring your fan (in mm) and searching for fans; I don't remember my exact parametres, but I turned up quite a few. Compare using RPMs, dBs, and CFM as guides. Come back and make us all experts!
