Heavy Duty Case

I'm leaving on a ski trip this weekend, so I need a heavy duty case to protect my iphone. I'm not actually going to have the phone on me while I am skiing, but I want something strong enough to protect my iphone from being crushed while it is in my bag.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Go to your local BestBuy or your local Outdoors/hiking store and look at any of the protective cases made for PDA's, smartphones, or iPods, and they will do inside your bag for your iPhone.
I use a small Timbuk2 PDA carrying case I got at my local hiking store. It is well cushioned inside and can just be tossed into any bag, and also has a beltloop if I want to wear it (I dont). It cost about 11.00 and I have never been worried about the iPhone in my hiking bag.

  • Is 120GB video classic too old to find a heavy duty case for?

i hope is ok to ask here about.
my 120gb is old and i'm having problems finding a strong heavy duty case for it such as toughskin. i've looked on ebay and amazon.
    got any suggestions?

The 120GB has the same dimension as the latest 6th Gen 160GB, so go to ebay, Amazon and search for the heavy duty case for 6th or 7th Gen 160GB iPod classic.
Physically there is no further enhancement on the 120GB and the 160GB iPod classic, (6th and 7th Gen)
    their dimension 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.41 inch
Those for 80GB are too big.
    Have a nice day!

  • What is the best ruggedized iPad mini (Retina) case in terms of heavy duty and protection?

Military grade and extreme protection for my iPad mini (Retina). Doesn't matter how thick and rugged it gets, I am looking for an armor case that offers ultimate protection.

Personally, I like the Heavy Duty Supcase. There are a lot of other options out there but this one is less than $20 and had excellent reviews.

You can install and activate CS6 on both machines perfectly legally.

  • Heavy duty number crunching...

I should really be using a tower for this, but I haven't got one, so it's my MBP.
I'm going to be doing some heavy duty video rendering that will probably take several hours, and I'll have to run several times. Obviously overnight.
I'm worried that if I use my MBP hard drive the machine will get hot for a long time and shorten its lifespan, or even risk failure.
What I can do is put my source video files on an external drive, and the exported files on another external drive. Both are 7200 (my MBP is 5400) and will be connected by eSata using an ExpressCard. That way only the OS and progs on my MBP HDD are being used.
Is this a good idea? Or will it slow it down in some way? Anything else I should be aware of?
    Cheers!

I'm no expert, but I think that since harddrives don't have fans, they are not an element of concern, temperature wise, in computers. Maybe I'm just ignorant and in servers or other machines with heave I/O they do ventilate the harddrives, but I have certainly never heard of it.
If you are asking, what would be fastest, then yes, looking at your hardware, the external ones might be faster.

  • Sony ZSH10CP Heavy Duty CD Radio Boombox- Can this be connected to an amplifier and/or a microphone?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Chime,
You can connect Headphone OUT jack of the Boombox to an amplifier to listen sound from external speakers. Microphone cannot be connected to the Boombox; however, you can enjoy the sound from a PC, TV etc by connecting Line OUT jack to the Audio IN jack of the Boombox.
If my post answers your question, please mark it as "Accepted Solution".
    Thank you for your post.

  • Separating heavy duty business process from web application

I'm working with a web application that just runs in a Servlet container, Jetty actually. I'm wondering what the best way to separate resource intensive processes, such as a search indexing process, from the main web application. These resource intensive processes might run at scheduled times, or they might be triggered by the events in the web application. I assume the second thing might incur much more complications on the solutions. I have a lot of questions about this, but for now, I'd just like to have some folks point out the common solutions. Changing to a EE application server is NOT an option.

    Couple of questions:
    1) What's the benefit of going to another app if you're still on the same server? I'm not being coy, I'm just trying to get a feel for the pros and cons. You could always run something on a timer from within the web application. Is there a performance benefit from being in another JVM? Then run it on the same server. No need to run it on another server if a separate JVM will do it for you.
    2) How would you communicate with the main app if you needed to receive events or something? RMI?You stated it was on a timer. There is no need to be on the same server to run things from a timer. If it needs to be event driven a simple way would be to set up a separate instance of Tomcat (or Jetty) on the same or different server. Refactor out what ever the offending code is into separate servlet and have your main app just send the events off to the other instance.
There are a lot of ways to go about this. They depend on what your needs are.

  • Is the 5c case sturdy enough to withstand drops from a child?

I had a heavy-duty case for my last iPhone but would prefer to go with apple's case for the  iPhone 5c, because the design is so fun! My issue is that I have a 1 and 3 yr. old, so I need to make sure that the apple case would protect my phone enough if one of them dropped it. Anyone have any experiences/observations to help me out?

I certainly wouldn't count on any case, unless it is guaranteed to do so, to be sturdy enough to withstand drops from ANYONE.

  • Am going to get a new iPhone, my first and need some advice...

    Hello-
I have been looking at getting an iPhone 4. I currently am with Verizon but both contracts (cell and data) are up so I was thinking about their iPhone 4. I have no idea if there is a difference between the way ATT deals with the calls, texts, internet and a carrier like Verizon. I am assuming the phone is the same and the OS will be the latest and the same. I did read that Verizon uses the CDMA network not the network 4GLTE. I guess when the 4G network is more of a network they might offer the option to choose.
Does anybody know if tethering is available with any of the carriers yet or is that what either 3G or 4G should help with? If so, since 3G has been a network for sometime, and a darn good one at Verizon, what is the deal with tethering. I remember going with my friend when the iPhone first came out and ATT told them that a "concept" called tethering will be out in about a few months. I do not think after 5 years it has been out.
I am open to all kinds of advice, cautions, suggestions, etc. as I embark on this new endeavor. being a tech nerd (in a negative way) I am nervous about how to deal with all of the functions without ruining the p[hone, which is what I usually do to the computers. I would like a super heavy duty case with a covering for the display (that allows the touch function to work). If there are choices with the iPhone 4, I would like to hear people's opinion of certain ones. Even apps. is it OK to get them on the apple website or iTunes or both? Are there apps that have been checked by Apple and are like Apple certified?
I would like (but not sure if it is possible) to be able to travel and use the internet out in the desert, for example. I have a Verizon MiFi2200 and I use that for my MacBook and it works great. Do they have something like that for the iPhone.
OK, that should be enough for now. OH, one more thing. Does it matter if I get applecare right of or wait until the initial warranty is about to expire before I purchase Applecare. I realize the phone sup[port will not be available to me if I wait but the genius bar and sending the camera in will be.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Is iPhone 6 bent problem serious?

I have an iPhone 4 since 2011 and decided to upgrade to iPhone 6, but i've heard (on the internet) new iPhones will bend easily. Is this true? I don't put my phone on the back pocket.
    Thanks.

Think what you want. As I mentioned, I was skeptical too. And I'd heard that it was only a problem on the 6 Plus.  The bulk of the media attention occurred before I was able to pick up my backordered iPhone6 and I still decided to get it.  I haven't watched any youtube videos related to iPhones bending. I'm not interested in watching anyone purposefully cause damage "for fun."  Certainly I agree that some amount of force must have been involved in my phone warping. Whatever force I exerted during the course of use couldn't have been much though and there was no obvious event that caused damage. I should also mention that it wasn't bent in 2.  The glass wasn't damaged at all and the phone was fully functional, but after 2 weeks it was slightly curved near the lower volume button. Any amount of bending on an electronic device is alarming to me.  When the Apple tech removed my sim card, the sim card tray was also bent, which surprised me and the tech. The pressure tests done in the middle or one end or the other of the phone may pass with flying colors.  But it seems possible that there is a lack of reinforcement around the cutouts in the frame where the buttons are, allowing some flex in that area. Or maybe I just got a bad one. Either way, I'm handling the new one like fragile crystal until I get it into a heavy duty case... and I kind of miss my old iPhone.

  • Would Like Some Advice/Help on How to Start Backing-Up...

    Hey-
I am getting a new MBP 17" for architecture/city planning grad school so I needed a lot that the 17" MBP had. I am not too excited carrying it around campus unless somebody rally turns me on t a nice bag to carry it in.
what I really am here for, because I have never backed up before, is to start learning about backing up. I do not want to pay $100/yr. for MobileMe and I think to use an external drive seems the most practical-except I am really hard on stuff so I would need a heavy duty case. Also, the FW 800 for the CAD program and other 3D programs (forget that, the school pays for those.)
I understand there are basically (minus the DVDs, CDs) 2 main ways to back up and they are archival and clonal. Anybody have any feeling on one way or the other? I am tending to go with the one that will not require another purchase of a program (the clonal system). But as you can tell I have very little experience with this backing up part. what happened to the ones that did not produce tapes which had many if any moving parts? The less moving part in this type of stuff think the better, but who am I you all are saying, hey?
Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for the top of the line headset for the MBP when I am trying to study I need or do better with some good jazz or Blues tune in the background and the speakers for the MBP will be mini ( I saw a small black pair in the Apple Store the other day) and a great ear phones for an iPod for exercise. I am looking at the iPod Classic but I hear it has a moving drive so if that is true, I better look for something else like the Touch. Anybody have trouble with the iPod Classic skipping when they were lifting weights, doing flexibility and some cardio like the Precore elliptical or something not too hard on the joints?
Any recommendations in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
    Fondly

    Hi One2Two,
For a backup drive I'd be looking at something like THESE in the 750 to 1.5 TB range with the "Quad" interface if you are going to be needing space for CAD files etc .
These are very good enclosures, run cool and quiet (no fan needed). I have several of the equivalent model sold in Australia (under a slightly different name) and they have proved faultless. Very well built, a little larger than some other options, but extremely reliable. I cart one or two of mine around on rough bush roads in the Australian outback fairly regularly (I'm an anthropologist) It is also easy to simply upgrade the internal drive at a later date.
For software, in the first instance, you can't go past SuperDuper - http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/
This lets you create a bootable clone of your HD and then easily update it either manually or through an automated schedule. Probably the most popular backup software amongst the "Level 4's" and "Level5's" on the Apple boards if recent discussions are anything to go by.
Many of us , though , complement it with an additional backup using Apple's own "Time Machine" (which will come free with your computer), either to a second drive, or , a little less safely, on a second partition of the same drive used for SuperDuper.
Time Machine essentially creates a quasi "archival" style backup - letting you revert to earlier versions of files etc over a period determined by your available disc space.
The combination of the two is pretty hard to beat.
The free version of SuperDuper will create your first clone, and you can continue to use it, but the "shareware" version is the one you want. It is not at all expensive and does a brilliant job.
    Cheers

  • My ipad2 media volume not working, volume bar not showing

My ipad2 media volume not working, volume bar not showing

    here are my similar symptons:
in Settings the volume slider bar when moved plays a sound out of the speaker
when you double press home button, and slide over to the brightness and volume slider bars, the volume slider is completely gone.
when you plug in headphones it works fine, volume rocker controls volume perfectly.
when you press volume rocker without headphones, nothing happens, or a blank "sound effects" icon displays.
I sent my Ipad2 to Apple for this under warranty.  They said there are some small scratches on the side of it.
It lives in a heavy duty case, but the exposed area has been knicked some how.    The little divots in the metal on the side mean that "impact" must have broken it.
Forget the fact that it spontaneously started happening and that the speakers and headphones both work at various times, and the volume rocker works, but iOS 5.1.1 apps can't send sound out the speaker, but the volume settings in the sound do send out sound..
so they refused to look at it or repair it under the warranty.   I was a day away from buying yet another apply device in our family that already has a couple iPod Touches and 2 iPads.  I think I'll buy a droid now.
