  • MMS Video missing on the Lumia 800

I have not found any ways to send short videos via MMS from the Lumia 800. The MMS send functionality seem to be limited to pictures.
The old Nokia N95 had this beautiful functionality that it somehow compressed HD videos, so you could send them within the MMS size limit. This functionality were removed on the later Nokia Symbian phones, but it was still possible to send videos if you recorded them with low quality.
    Solved!

You can recieve them you can't send them yet. This functionality is being introduced in Tango whis is imminent.

  • What happened to the Lumia 800 design???

Well it's obvious that the current Lumia 800 is on a dead track since it no longer supports an update to the new OS. That wouldn't be much of a problem when the new Lumia designs were based on the 800. Unfortunatelly though the new x20 series are utterly boring! (except for the 920, but that one is too big/heavy and without amoled)
I really can’t think of any reason for redesigning the phone. The 800 was differentiating from the rest of the market and very stylish. Like Apple, Nokia better had to keep on to this winning design so it's recognizable. But just adapting it a bit, bringing better hardware and so on...
Maybe I'm wrong here and it's just me that loves the 800. So for me it’s a difficult dilemma, I have to choose for design or functionality where both should have been joined…

The lumia 800 has a superior design.
It is the most beautiful smartphone nokia, is simply a piece of art, either in size or in design.
    All 20's are horrible

  • Is the Lumia 800 a step backwards for nokia?

Having now owned a lumia 800 for a few days, I have found imo that this phone feels like a step back to some of the older nokias when it comes to the basic features of the phone. Don't get me wrong some of the new features are ok, but when it comes to selecting a ring tone, or customisation of what icons you see on your screen, connecting to other devices to send files etc. have they put enough thought into what this so called advanced phone should be like or have they just put the hardware together and said sod it there you go microsoft do what you want with the software and forget about anything we have done before? I would love to hear what other users of this phone think.

@iceytoa1. Since you are bringing cars into this, I will use it to explain my point. Most modern up-to-date mobile phones have a very simple basic function built in that is designed to protect car drivers when they have their hands free kits set up in their car , Auto Answer. The Iphone you have to purchase an app to do this, And now Nokia have not included this basic function in the lumia 800. Would you want to pay extra on a brand new car, just to have indicators? I have no problem with Nokia wanting to try and increase sales, but when it means they are forgetting about everything they have done with the previous models and the basic functions that the all had, then something is very wrong. Either they don't give a monkeys about all the loyal customers they have gained over the years, or they have sold out to microsoft already.
@neie35c. I 2 wanted the N9. When I spoke to nokia about getting one they said to me the lumia 800 was virtually the same just had windows on it. I am now stuck with the lumia for the term of my contract, unless the thing breaks and then I can send it back and get a decent phone.

  • To clarify: does the Lumia 800 update fix the batt...

    Hi all
First time poster. I've been reading these boards for a week now trying to figure out, from the various posts and their many sub-pages, whether this update is
    a) available (UK)
    b) effective
My wife and I both like the Lumia 800 but are put off by the very concerning battery and sound issues. We are happy to get one provided we can be sure the recent fix is precisely that. We were looking at O2; has anyone on O2 got the update yet, and what are your findings?
Thanks in advance for any help
p.s. another option is to wait for the 900, but from what I've read the UK release date is simply stated as Q2. Is that the latest?

Well I'm on Vodafone UK; 12070 update appears to have significantly improved mattersfor me.. These days I ignore the 'estimated time remaining' figure, as it seems to be based on tour usage in an unspecified previous period so now merely provides mild interest. However the 'remaining battery life' definitely reduces noticeably more slowly.
Usage-wise, I use functions as I need them.. I don't need 24/7 web connection so turn Cellular or Wifi on as and when. While I'll turn Cellular off asap, I'll often leave Wifi on if I'm not leaving the zone. The phone is almost always turned on; I've never yet used flight mode. Listen to music in the car, but often hook up to a charger while doing this, as I would with any mobile.
I might charge every day, sometimes every couple of days.Depends how much I've been doing.
To put it in context, my netbook (Wifi always on) battery lasts 45 MINUTES  if I'm lucky!
I like it, anyway.. 12070 has definitely enhanced my experience :-)
I also got the latest version of Drive, and while I still don't really 'do' satnav it seems to be improving by degrees. Satnav regulars have other threads going on that one I think.

  • Recharge of the Lumia 800 very very long

After the last update for the Lumia 800 I have a problem. The problem is that the recharge of the telephone takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes for arrive to 100%. Why? Is it not to much?
I already made a restart of the phone.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

2 hours 20 min is the stated recharge time for a full charge (from the manual), sounds like your phone is running as it should.
2:20 is a pretty reasonable time for a full charge, although you may be able to speed it up by a 10-15 mins by putting the phone in flight mode while charging, and obviously not using it while on charge too.

  • Issues on the Lumia 800 with "WIFI" and "Mobile ne...

I keep my Lumia 800 on 2G/E at all times usually to conserve battery life, and because i'm at work with a wifi connection all day..occasionally when i go out i like to turn on the 3G and use the map functions etc.
The problem occurs after a while that i notice the 3G draining my battery quite quickly, so i decide i want to turn off the 3G, i go to the "Mobile network" entry under "settings" and when i tap it, nothing happens at all, i also notice my WIFI is turned off, so i tap the "WIFI" entry, and again nothing happens!
So, to solve this problem i have to turn the phone off...but then it takes maybe 10 mins or so till i can turn it back on, it will not turn on straight away!! I have to either wait ten mins or keep pressing the power button and holding it down untilt he phone eventually vibrates to tell me its turning on..whats going on??
If anyone can shed some light on this matter i'd be very grateful!

This is still happening, can anyone shed some light on this?

  • No equalizer on the Lumia 800?

It looks like the 800 doesn't have an equalizer.
Are there plans to add it in an update or as an additional download?
It's a sad omission for a phone that's advertised with decent headphones.
    Thanks!

Some phones dont have equalizers why? i dont know.
hopefully in an update this can be implemented.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Stains on the Lumia 800

I've been using the silicone casing since day 1 and i realized there are stains (sorta like dried up water marks) all over the rear of the phone and i tried removing it but to no avail =(
    anybody have this problem?

I should have came across this post a long time ago!
After reading this post, I inspected my 3-month old Lumia 800 (black) and I was surprised to see these stains/blemishes after removing the supplied silicon case.
I think the culprit here is the silicone case itself as I never removed it from day one I bought and got my Lumia. Its such a shame that Nokia is not aware of this issue as they should be the one providing solution.
I cetainly love my Lumia 800, but these stains are making me ebb from it

  • Serious camera problems with the Lumia 800

Hello everyone, I just want to share my experience with you.
I've been using an unlocked Lumia 800 for a week now and I actually like the phone, however these camera problems are just unacceptable.
The camera has SERIOUS white balance problems, and, for me the most important, the auto-focus is just ridiculous. It works bad, but focusing on "macro" objects is just a no go, even usin the touch focus or the "macro" focus mode. Another problem is the lens flare, which reflects how bad these optics might be. You really think that the Carl Zeiss branded optics anything here? Think again. My HTC Incredible S, with its "OEM" optics, (or the Iphone 4S or the SII) just humiliates this camera. Also, is that so hard to make a green square focus confirmarion?
How can they release a flagship device, with this price range, with these problems? No wonder why Nokia is where it is standing now, "almost" in a closing-doors status. They really need better engineers and programmers because everytime they let this happen with a device, they're tossing away their valuable customers. And they really deserve it.
And as I've been reading, the Lumia 900 is having the same problems... How sad is this?
    Regards,
    RR
    Moderator's note; removed personal remarks

No, the camera is not that bad, it is actually decent in lowlight conditions @ISO100 (it automatically raises a bit, but it avoids the 800, unlike the auto-mode), with a good balance between noise and detail. However, In my opinion, that's the whole purpose in camera phones - point and shoot. If I could only take good photos if I find the perfect combination of settings for each situation, the versatility of camera phones would be zero. And of course, if I want "perfect" photos, I'll use my DSLR, but that's not an excuse for this camera, which performs worse that my previous E72.
And understand light and ff course this camera can take amazing photos, as those in flickr, but all cameras can do that. Some do need lots of effort and tries, some not. Even my old Sony Ericsson C902, which was **bleep**, could sometimes take some nice pics.
I'm not complaining about the full set of caracteristics, but about the details that ruin the whole.
    - Lack of self-time;
    - Metering is also inaccurate. Lots of clipped highlights;
    - White balance is a mess with flash and indoors (incandescent or fluorescent lights);
    - Lateral lens flare, which is bad and I'll upload an example soon.
    - I believe the whole auto-focus is a bit inaccurate, but I can only really notice it in macro captures. This really incapacitates me of taking detailed document photos, which I usually do.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the phone experience, but the camera fails to impress mainly due to the lack of effort by the Nokia Developers to tweak the camera driver properly, which is pitiful.
Here's an example of a screen capture, at 15cm (any other phones I know can sharp-focus at this distance): notice the off-focus/blurred center, the whole image soft-focus, and those stained areas. Weird!

  • Where is the Lumia 800 wifi tethering?

    Hello
About two months ago, there was a lot of buzz on the net about "lumia 800 gets wifi tethering in the next update"
Well... Am I missing something important on my phone or is the wifi tethering still not there?  I could use it, especially since Joikuspot is not available for this phone.
    Thanks
    Dieter

I keep asking the same question and never get an answer from Nokia, I cannot believe they do not know this. I purchased this phone after being told it was already available by the salesman. I purchased this on a higher contract so that I could get rid of my mobile dongle. I am now paying for both each month. This has really put me off Nokia, jut wish I was wasn't stuck with it for an 18 month contract.

  • Lumia 800: Is it possible to disable the tactile f...

How can we disable the vibration when you push the back, home or search button of the Lumia 800?
Is there a way to do it like e.g. the way to enable the hidden diagnostics? ##___#, where ___ are 3 numbers.
I don't need this kind of tactile feedback, because the screen already shows the response and I don't like the feeling. It could also save some of the precious but poor battery life.

    Hey
I asked Microsoft on this issue, and they say it is up to you to disable the feedback.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-wpdevices/lumia-800-is-it-possible-to-disable-...
Anyway, can I return my Lumia 800 because of this feature is simply unacceptable. I would rather buy an iPhone.
But should you provide a solution to disable this feature, then I am a happy customer.

  • Multiple email accounts on Lumia 800

    Dear All
I have a question about email accounts on the Lumia 800.
I have two email accounts, one linked to our website (pop 3) and also my personal Live account.  The account linked to the website can only receive (it costs more and thus was deemed unnecessary). This system has worked well in the past, just reply or forward using my Live account.  This has worked on my pc, laptop, Iphone etc.
Now the question, how do I choose which account sends on the Lumia?  As I can’t seem to select between the two, I currently have no means of replying to or forwarding mail received in the ‘website’ account.   I have tried messing around with settings in both accounts, but to no avail.
Apologies in advance if I’m just being an idiot but any help would be appreciated.
    Clockit.
