Height of 27" iMac including stand

Hopefully a simple question here... I'm thinking of getting a new 27" iMac in the near future, now that Apple has just released the upgraded models. One thing I'm not quite sure of though... I was under the impression that the total height from the bottom of the stand to the top of the screen is about 20.4" tall, but when I looked at the Tech Specs page the graphic http://images.apple.com/imac/images/specsdimensions_b20100727.jpg leads me to believe that this might just be the height of the main body of the machine, not counting a few more inches for the stand. Is the graphic just a bit misleading, or do I need to factor in some extra height?
Also, is there any guidance on how much clearance I need to allow for adequate cooling?
I have somewhat limited space above my desk surface, otherwise I wouldn't be concerned... as I tend to keep desktops for quite awhile I thought I'd treat myself to a 27" model but only if it fits somewhat comfortably in the space. Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The measurements Apple uses are from the base to the top of the computer. As far as I know Apple doesn't publish specifications about how much clearance the computer needs. However common sense tells me that it should not be boxed in however if you must ensure the space has at least 2-4" around each of the 4 sides for adequate ventilation.
Macs are known to run a little warm so it might be wise to rethink where you want to place it if you don't have adequate ventilation. Using external fans usually isn't a good idea as they tend to blow dust into the computer .

Roger

Other than greed and trying to narrow the spread between the price of the old iMacs and the just-announced new iMac, why did Apple raise its prices overnight by $200 on the iMac, including refurbished models? Their existing product component costs didn't increase overnight.

how do i copy a photoshop folder from my Imac including keywords to my Macbook computer with photoshop on it to take it on a trip

I do not use a mac. If you are referring to Image files and metadata. Metadata may be in the image file or in sidecar files in the the same folder. It may depend on how you have set some of Adobe setting.  Bridge may have some metadata is its cache and users system data areas. ACR may store it information in an ACR database rather then sidecar files.  If you use Lightroom metadata is most likely in its library databases.
Photoshop has many folders.   Users images are in your user id folders of perhaps in lightroom's library not in  Adobe  Photoshop folders. I do not use Lightroom.   What exactly are you referring to when you wrote "a Photoshop Folder"?

  • IMac Plastics & Stand Questions

Are the (poloycorbonite) plastics as good as regular plastics, I mean does it get brittle over time.
and how tough is the stand mount in the iMac?

Don't take this a glib statement, but "time will tell." My Apple Studio Display is over 5 years old and the polycarbonite has not yet cracked. Eventually everything deteriorates, but this seems to be some durable stuff.
The stand on my iSight looks to be high quality aluminum that is about 1/4" thick and has a strong feel to it.

  • Export mail from iMac to other iMac ,including archive maps

I want to transfer my mail items, including archive maps, to my second iMac on an other location.

    1) Moving from 2.5 year old MBPro to a new one.
    2) Have Time Machine
    3) Digging how fast the machine is and had a rental unit for a while (on which I just took everything using TM) and well, the rental machine "felt" like I just had my old computer back...but I wanted a faster computer
    4) Now I have a much faster computer, and I don't want to bring all my "old stuff" with me.
    5) But I want to bring in a few iMovie files, my email (I use both Mail and Entourage), certain other files, and a few apps
So, the main thing I don't know how to do is how to import all my email into Mail.
I tried moving Mail into a temp folder and restoring my Mail app from June 29th into the current Applications folder. When I started mail, the error message was "you cannot use that version of Mail with this build..."
I just don't want to "weigh down" my new computer with all my "old stuff." But I do need my email, some apps, and some files.
    Files: easy, find and import
    Apps: easy, find and restore
    email: please help!
Best, and I figured I'd ask, since I've tried the steps outlined in this thread...
    Sincerely,
    Dainis
Hmm...maybe because I updated my system on the rental, the Mail app needs 10.6.4 instead of 10.6.3. I kinda wish this would be better explained and I'm feeeling like this is a bit microsoftesque.

  • Height of 27" iMac from desk to bottom of screen

    Hello all,
I have just ordered a 27" iMac but despite search the net for a while I cannot find the answer to this question. I want to work out if my router will fit underneath the screen (it is a vertical type) so I want to know the distance from the bottom of the stand (desk) to the bottom of the iMac 27" 2012 model in cm or inches. It should onlu take any owner a few seconds to find this out for me and it will be a great help!

Thanks you mate! This makes things a lot easier as my router is only 70mm so even taking into account the angle of the screen I would imagine it will fit easily underneath!

  • IMac faulty stand

    Hello
My iMac has developed a fault with the stand/hinge where it is unable to hold its own weight and just flops forward when trying to adjust the screen angle.
I've taken it to my closest Apple Store in the UK but having some issues, looking for some advice please:
18th August - loud noise heard from iMac and screen instantly falls forward. Use the live chat with Apple to diagnose and book Genius Bar Appointment
23rd August - Took the iMac to closest UK Apple Store. Took one look at it and agreed to repair but would have to order the correct part. Left iMac with the shop
27th August - Apple Store calls me to explain the 2 parts they ordered have not solved the issue and an additional part has been ordered and would be delivered in a couple of days.
1st September - I call the Apple Store to chase and told that the part is on order and as they don't receive deliveries on a Sunday or Monday, they expect the part to be delivered tomorrow.
2nd September - Apple Store calls me to say that the part is still on order and they have no estimated date of when it will be delivered. Their system just says "on order". They have contacted all other local Apple Stores and found a store with the part in stock. That store has agreed to send the part to them and will be delivered tomorrow.
3rd September - Apple Store calls me and says that the other store is unable to send them the part as they don't have this function available in their stock control. The original part is still on order, although they still have no estimate of when it will be delivered or even if, and they now want me to come and collect the iMac from them until the part is in stock.
Now I realise that the fault is only with the stand and the actual system is working fine, but its a real pain as the angle effects viewing the screen correctly. I feel i've been constantly lied to about when the part will be delivered and if they have no idea when it will be delivered how can they ever fix it?
The iMac is covered under AppleCare until April 2016
Am I within my right to request a replacement iMac, or do i have no other option than to wait?
Thanks in advance for any help provided

Three attempted repairs, many people are able to get replacement Macs.    I would say if it is impeding your business you can make a case for just getting a replacement Mac.
As for the stand, see this page for some options: http://www.imacmount.com/

Should i use the SSD for the Users folder?

    yes
if you run out of room get an external disk and put your media on that as those will not benefit that much from speed of ssd

  • Imac i3 Stand

Hi, does anyone know if the stand for the Imac i3 can be removed and whether doing so would void the warranty? I've just bought one in the US and need to transport it to the UK, if possible in my carry-on luggage. I'm reluctant to put it in the plane hold for obvious reasons.

The only iMac models with a removable stand are the 27" iMacs. If yours is a 21.5" iMac, then no, it is not removable.
Removing the stand from a 27" iMac does not void the warranty, it is a user serviceable part. The video Captfred linked is exactly how it is removed.

  • Does the Aluminum Mid-2007 Intel-based iMac include a USB extension cable?

    Hello everyone,
I live in Canada, and my Aluminum (Mid-2007) 20" iMac did not include a USB extension cable for the keyboard. I have read on the forums that other members' Aluminum iMacs did not come with it either. I also read someone from Japan who said his iMac came with the cable, but I am not sure if he had an Aluminum or White iMac. I know that the standalone new keyboards do come with the USB extension cable. I would like to know if your Aluminum (Mid-2007) iMacs came with this accessory. Please let me know if it did or did not. Thank you for your help, and I await your reply.

P.S. I bought my iMac the same day Leopard launched, and then I received it in the first half of November.

    Hi Bob and mrtotes,
Thank you very much for your helpful replies. I apologize that I have been away for a couple of days--I have been very busy with final assignments, so I did not get to reply to you until now.
I do find the cable a little short after I slide my keyboard tray under, but all I have to do is turn Mighty Mouse around before then. Other than that, Mighty Mouse's built-in cable is long enough when I am interacting with my iMac.
It makes sense that only the Mac Pro would need the USB extension cable more than the portables and iMacs would. I don't know why I did not think of that before--I guess that's why we we're here when we're not sure! And of course the Mac Mini does not come with input devices unless you ask because the whole point of the Mac Mini is BYODKM (bring your own display, keyboard, and mouse).
Thanks again for your help with answering my questions--I really appreciate it.
    Cya!

  • Combined Purchase Order and Sales Order Query. (Including Stand Alone Docs)

    Hi,
    I need some help please!
I am looking for a query that will show all the Purchase Orders with all their base document Sales Orders. However I also need to show those stand alone Purchase orders and Sales Orders.
What I have is two queries, one for the PO fields en one for The SO fields. I would like a way to combine these two so I have one query with the relevant PO and SO info next to each other.
The final query will have a top heading structure like this:
    Status,Purchase No.,Supplier No.,Supplier Name,Week,Month,Del Method,Country,Method,Rep.|Status,Rep.,Sales No.,Customer No.,Customer Name,Customer Order no.,Cust. Del date,Doc total,Del Method
+(The first part is for the purchase order section, the second part starting at the second 'Status' is the sales order section)
    +Purchase Order Query:
    SELECT
      T0.DocStatus 'Status',
      T0.DocNum'Purchase Order No.',
      T0.CardCode 'Supplier No.',
      T0.CardName'Supplier Name',
      DATEPART(ww,T0.DocDuedate)'Week',
      DATEPART(mm,T0.DocDuedate) 'Month',
      T1.TrnspName 'Delivery Method',
      T2.Country 'Country',
      T0.JrnlMemo 'Method',
      T3.SlpName 'Rep.'
    FROM OPOR T0
    INNER JOIN OSHP T1 ON T0.TrnspCode = T1.TrnspCode
    INNER JOIN OCRD T2 ON T0.CardCode = T2.CardCode
    INNER JOIN OSLP T3 ON T0.SlpCode = T3.SlpCode
    Sales Order Query:
    SELECT
      T0.DocStatus 'Status',
      T2.SlpName 'Rep.',
      T0.DocNum 'Sales Order No.',
      T0.CardCode 'Customer No.',
      T0.CardName 'Customer Name',
      T0.NumAtCard 'Customer Order no.',
      T0.DocDueDate 'Cust. Delivery date',
      T0.DocTotal ' Doc total',
      T1.TrnspName ' Delivery Method'
    FROM ORDR T0
    INNER JOIN OSHP T1 ON T0.TrnspCode = T1.TrnspCode
    INNER JOIN OSLP T2 ON T0.SlpCode = T2.SlpCode
The problem I am having is that if I combine these queries it excludes all those records with blank/empty data fields.
I do not mind having to go to crystal reports to get what I want.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi thanks GordonDu,
I have tried a union before, and yours works great. However my problem is to display the  PO en SO columns next to each other and not underneath each other.
    Something like this:
Po No          Supplier          SO No           Customer
    1234           Sup 1             9876              Cust 1
    1235           Sup 2             no SO             Cust 2
    1236           Sup 3             9877              Cust 3
    1237           Sup 4             9878              Cust 4
    1238           Sup 5             no SO             Cust 4
I have this query, but with this it drops all those Purchase Orders made Stand Alone and without a SO number.
    SELECT
      T2.DocNum AS 'Purchase Order No.',
      T0.DocNum AS 'Sales Order No.',
      T2.CardCode AS 'Supplier No.',
      T2.CardName AS 'Supplier Name'
    FROM ORDR T0
       INNER JOIN RDR1 T1 ON T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry
       INNER JOIN OPOR T2 ON T2.DocEntry = T1.PoTrgEntry
Though using your Union gives me all the information I want and the ability to expand on that, my problem is the "Display" part. I am sure I am doing something stupid somwhere

  • IMac 27" screen size without Stand

Hi there, well I just wanna know the actual size without the stand, the size that appears on the site are with the stand, and I need to know the size without it since I´m going to place the iMac in a Vesa Mount, it would be great if someone can provide the Height and depth (the Width will be exactly the same)
    Thanx in advance

I was wondering the same thing and went to the tech specs page. The graphic at the top showing an iMac from the back has dimensions indicating that the listed height -- 20.4 inches (51.7 cm)-- does NOT include the stand. Odd that there seems to be no measurement of overall height (including stand).
My problem was slightly different. I was trying to figure out if the 27" iMac (and stand) would fit into the cubbyhole above my work desk. I measured the wife's 24" iMac stand and it added 6 cm to the total height. I added that to the 51.7 cm of the 27" iMac and found that the iMac would fit by lowering a shelf, but then I wouldn't be able to close the keyboard drawer -- logitech mouse would catch the bottom of the shelf. But if I removed the stand and mounted the 27" iMac on a Vesa Mount, everything would fit!

  • Cat-proof iMac stand?

My mom just got a new 24" iMac. It's been sitting in the box, unopened, for the past 2 days. (She's scared the cat might knock it over.) Is there any kind of 3rd party add-on for the stand that can be secured to the desk, or something that significantly increases stability/surface area of the included stand?
Note: I've seen the i360 swivel stand. That thing doesn't look like it has any screwholes, or any other means to secure it to the desk, and it doesn't seem to increase the surface area all that much.

    I have that product.
    http://www.raindesigninc.com/i360.html
The bottom of the iMac stand slides into this base, and gets secured in place with a back panel that attaches with one screw. So it is not just sitting one top of the base. The base makes the bottom of the iMac larger and wider, making it less likely to tip over. It also adds weight. The bottom of the base has sticky rubber feet, so it's less likely to slide. And it has the added benefit of letting the iMac swivel "360" degrees.
If you decide to get one, be sure to get the larger version for the 24" iMac.
You could probably devise a way to use the rubber feet secure it to the table. Maybe put some of that spongy double-stick tape on the bottom of the feet.

  • IMac 27" - total machine height?

I currently use an Apple 24" LED Cinema Display with my MacBook Pro but am planning on switching to the 27" iMac...could someone with an iMac 27" please tell me the total height of this machine from the desk to the top of the display (I haven't yet managed to see a 27" in a retail store in HK)?
The reason I ask is that I would like my future iMac to be higher than my current display but before I buy a VESA arm mount, I wanted to compare the height of the 24" display against the 27" iMac but could not becuase Apple's tech specs for each device appear to use a different formula.
For example, the 24" LED Cinema Display is listed as having a height of 47.84 cm and I have tested my display and this appears to be the total height of the display (from the desk to the top of the display) whereas the 27" iMac is listed as having a height of 51.7 cm but from the diagram Apple uses, it appears this is just the height of the main body of the machine (not including the foot).
    thanks in advance
    Raf

    Dennis
    Thanks for your quick reply.
Interestingly, Apple seem to be a bit confused themselves about the total height of the iMac 27" as the height appears to be calculated differently between the different country pages!
I say this because in my original post, I referenced Apple HK's tech specs page HERE and you referenced Apple US's tech specs page HERE and if you look closely, you can see that the height dimensions are measured differently (compare the images of the back of the iMac...you'll see the US measurement extends to the base of the machine whereas the HK measurement extends only to the base of the display).
What I'm really looking for is a real-world measurement from someone with a current machine...

  • Help - iMac stand mount snapped into case / out of reach

    Hi,
I've tried switching the iMac 24" stand with the VESA mount today and the unthinkable happened. While all screws were off the mount that's inside the casing (holding the stand in place that's usually attached to this piece), the mount snapped back into the casing!
It is now out of reach, because of this tiny hole in the back of the computer. I've been to the store and they tell me they need to take apart the whole machine to get to the mount, resulting in some $650-700 repair cost. I just can't afford this, so I'm wondering whether anybody has an idea how to grab this mount and turn it outside. The spring(s) attached to it are incredibly strong, so that nothing moves when trying to pull it with some cable that I've threaded through a screw hole.
Gee, how can Apple make this SO unaccessible?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I did just that. It wasn't the cheapest thing, because they had to take apart the whole machine as apparently you can only open the iMac from the front. So they needed to take out all the stuff inside to get to the back panel - what a great idea to build it like that...
The computer is up and running, but my accound is weeping.
