Heirarchical Galleries

Been thinking about gettin iLife so I can get my hands on iWeb. But I have questions about the photo galleries. Can iWeb create heirarchical galleries? For instance, can I create a gallery called "Auto Shows", which has indexes for individual years, which links to an index to individual events, that links to the actual photo gallery for that event? Or is everything in iWeb required to be linked off of the Welcome page?

As far as I know you can create as many hierarchical tiers in your iWeb site as you wish - the only drawback is that you limited to the templates provided by Apple.
However, you can easily delete all the elements from the welcome page, and start from scratch with each page.

I have at least two photo galleries linked from my Match Reports page, which is linked from the homepage - I make that 3 tiers, but there is no limit.

Can I use the "same" button multiple times for multiple galleries?

OK so I am extremely untrained in CS4 and Actionscript. However I have managed to get along fairly well until I started to dynamically upload images as a gallery. This works great if I have one gallery, but for my site I have 9 galleries!!! I have a back and next button, but I want to be able to use those same buttons for all of the galleries so they look the same. I have split them up and renamed them, but I am clueless on how to script the buttons to work. Please help...and don't laugh at my poor scripting. This is what I have now because I do not know where to put the other button names without getting errors.

I'm still a novice with Flash myself, but I have two comments.
First, at this point, won't your buttons control all galleries at the same time? Which means, if I go to image 5 in one gallery, then move to another gallery, I'll start at image 5, because the actions are all connected.
Second, you can definitely use the same buttons for multiple galleries. It seems to me that as long as you've assigned the buttons an instance name, these actions should already work to control all the galleries (see the note above). I guess I would need to understand a bit more about how your project is built.

Problem when importing two photo galleries with the same name. Please Help!

I'm not a pro in dreamweaver so I would appreciate if your answer wouldn't be too technical...
Anyway I have experienced a problem. Heres the sotory, I have been making a websie in DW and used Adobe Bridge CS5 to create a photo gallery SWF file that I would use for my website. The problem is that I want to use two different photo galleries on two different pages however when I save my second photo gallery in bridge, it saves every file with the exact name as the first photo gallery I created and is working fine... Thus when I try to import the photo gallery files into my website folder structure, I find that it asks me to rename them because the files from the first photo gallery are called the exact same names.. Now obviously when I try to rename them dreamweaver gets confused and goes to the wrong folder and uses the images from my first photo gallery in the second one.
So I guess my question is how can I organize my folder structure to be able to import multiple galleries without dreamweaver getting confused because bridge names all the files the same. Or how could I save the files through bridge so that they have different names and will work fine when I import into DW...

#1 You cannot have two files / folders or galleries with the same name. Redo your image Galleries with different names.
#2 SWF (flash) is not visible to iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android or other web devices that don't support Flash Player. These users will see nothing. You might wish to explore other photo gallery / slideshow options that rely on jQuery instead of Flash technology. Some links below. A Google search will reveal many others.

You will need to find a third party solution for online storage in order to share things like photos with others. Some popular solutions to this are dropbox and sugarsync.
You cannot sync non-iCloud email accounts across your iOS devices and computers unless they are IMAP accounts like iCloud. If they are IMAP accounts, you will do it in the same way as you have always done.

The new ios version of iPhoto allows sharing. Here's a blurb from Apple's web site:

I have not used ios version of iPhoto to share "journals" and I'm not sure this is part of iCloud or not. You'll have to do a google search on "ios iphoto" and read up of this journal thing. As far as I know, this is the only way of sharing photos. I'm not sure whether other friends use a browser to view these journals or whether they need something special. Any way - search around to find answers.

Can no longer customize Web galleries

Just reposted on this new forum, when I discovered after over 2 weeks that the other one was read only. I hope someone here has a clue. I didn't know if the question was not understandable or that no one bothers to modify the galleries, which now appear very limited to me.
This is rather complex so I hope I can explain it well.
In CS3 I created my own gallery styles based on the supplied ones. Pretty much cusomizations of the white on black.
When I got CS4, it had a new method of gallery creation, and I wanted to continue to use the types I had already created. I had talked to tech help and was told how to import the styles I had and use the old method.
I am currently creating galleries containing various families of insects. I had previously created a template for bullerflies and moths called Lepidoptera gallery, after the Order to which they belong.. It contains a link to another page which has the families, and the link is called moth families.
Now I was working on an entirely different Order, Orthoptera which includes, grasshoppers, crickets etc. At first I used the Lepidoptera template, but then I had to go into 5 pages that were created and change text and links.
So I created a copy of the Lepidoptera folder, and modified what I needed to change in an HTML editor, which was how I customized the style originally. When I first tried to use the new Orthoptera template, it wasn't listed in the choices. I searched the C: drive and found that the one I modified was in a different directory.
It was in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Web Photo Gallery
So I copied it to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Presets\Web Photo Gallery.
And now it appeared in the list of templates (Orthoptera). So I ran the gallery creator, but found that the page created still had "Moth familes", instead of "Orthoptera Families".
I had modified it already, and did so in both locations just in case. If I go to windows explorer, and burrow down to the file, click on the template itself, orthoptera/indexpage.htm then this will produce a page with "orhoptera familes"
I am just about tearing my hair out with frustration as this makes no sense to me at all. I wonder if anyone understands what is going on. As I continue to make more family galleries, which may have several pages, I don't want to have to keep going into each and doing the same changes all the time. It should be so unnecessary.

I don't know where it is going to look. As I did all the Orthoptera, haing to go to the source of every page, andchanging the links to the moths to the Orthoptera, I had to do the same with other Oders. Now I am on the Diptera, and went to the previously created Orthoptera gallery and changed the text and link from Orthoptera to Diptera. But it still shows text and link, moth, instead. So I continue to have to go to each pages source coded and change individually.
Here is what I don't understand. When I go to the folder that is at C://program files/adobe/adobe photoshop cs4 (64 bit)/presets/web photo gallery, the renamed, copied and modified folder, Diptera is there, and come up in the choices of templates. But the text and link modifications don't occur when the gallery is run. Where could it be going to get the moth stuff, when it goes to this folder for the template?
What you said about the 64 bit makes sense, but I don't know where it could be going to create the gallery when the folder named Diptera is ther.

Is it possible to number within groups to achieve heirarchal export?

I have created a multi-group crystal report using summary totals in the Group Footer. And, have concatenated some of the fields to create my groups.
Studies are assigned to one MDC
Studies can be conducted in many regions, countries and have many centers.
Group 1 - MDC
Group 2 - Study ID
Group 3 - Study ID & Region (concatenated field)
Group 4 - Study ID & Country (concatenated field)
Group 3 - Study ID & Center (concatenated field)
My drill down in crystal preview mode is exactly how it should be ie.:

I would like to achieve the same heirarchal look when exported to excel. Can anyone provide guidance here?

Help with structuring SQL databases for multiple photo galleries..help!?!

Hello all,
As a new PHP/SQL developer I have found great technical assistance from both this forum and from David Powers and his wonderful books. I am at a crucial point in my web development and although I believe I know which direction I need to go, I am still uncertain and so I appeal to you all for your help, especially David Powers.
The website I am building is one which will house many photo galleries. I was able to successfully modify the code provided in David Powers’ book ‘php Solutions’ so that I got the photo galleries constructed and working in the manner I desired.
That being said, a person browsing my website will be presented with a link to see the photo galleries. There will be five (5) categories in which the photos will be separated, all based on specific styles. Now that I have the galleries working, I need to know how to structure things so that I can create a page, like a TOC (table o’ contents) that shows all photo galleries by displaying a thumbnail image or two along with the description. Perhaps I’ll limit the TOC page to only show the latest 25 galleries, arranged with the most current always on top.
The way I have my galleries set up, I have a separate database for each one, containing the photo filenames and other relevant data. To build my TOC structure, should I have an overall database that contains each gallery database filename along with category? This is where I have no idea what I’m doing so if my question sounds vague, please understand I have no other idea how to ask.
The site will grow to the point of having hundreds, if not thousands of photo galleries. I simply want to know how to (organize them) or otherwise allow me to build a method to display them in a TOC page or pages.
I know this is a bit dodgy, but with some info and questions back from you, I feel confident that I should be able to get my point across.
Lastly, I am still developing this site locally, so I have no links to provide (though I feel that shouldn’t be necessary right now).

I'm chewing this over in my head, reading up on DB's in 'phpSolutions' and I think that things are slowly materializing.
Here is the structure of the website that I have planned:
MAIN PAGE
User is presented with a link on the main page to select photo galleries (other links are also present). Clicking the link takes them to the Category Page.
CATEGORY PAGE
On this page, the User will then have 5 choices based on categories (photo style). CLicking any of these 5 links will take them to respective TOC pages.
TOC PAGE
On this page, the user is greeted with a vertical list of galleries or photosets; one to three thumbs on the left, a small block of descriptive text on the right (ideally containing date/time info to show how recent the gallery is). Newest galleries appear at the top. Eventually, when there are tens or hundreds of galleries in any given catrgory, I'll need to adopt a method for breaking up the qualntity in groups (we can pick 20 for example) that can be scrolled through using a small navbar. This will keep the TOC Pages from getting endlessly long and avoid endless scrolling. User selects a gallery on this page to view.
THUMBNAIL PAGE
On choosing a gallery, a thumbnail page is generated (I have this working already)
IMAGE PAGE
On selecting any thumbnail in the grid, the user is taken to the full-sized photo with a navbar and photo counter at the top. Navlinks allow forward and back, a link to the first image, a link to the last image and one link back to the thumbnail page. (I have this working already).
I provide this info in an effort to help understand the basic structure of my site. The description above is as close to a step-by-step illustration as possible.

Can you block certain photo galleries so people can only view certain ones?

If I create a website in iWeb and I want to post a photo gallery that I have uploaded to my mobileme account, is there a way to have it so that people who click on that gallery can ONLY VIEW THAT SINGLE gallery, and not be able to see any of my other online galleries?

Yes, you can. There's an option in the gallery's setting, "Hide Album on my gallery page", which will isolate it from the other galleries, both on the main gallery page and in that particular gallery. This gallery is an exmaple of that.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Can I use thumbnails rather than the {sitename} to load different galleries?

I'm new to Spry and all things Javascripting but I'm attempting to construct a image gallery using Spry in Dreamweaver CS3. I've used the "Original Photo Gallery" from the Spry Demo folder as a jumping off point and everything works correctly.
I would like to know if it is possible to use representative thumbnails rather than the select dropdown to launch the different galleries? I'm sure it is, but I'm a total neophyte and have no idea what to do. I'd like to set up a AP Div with 9 thumbnails in a table that would each launch a different gallery. How do I do that?

Hello, because you're SELECTing tournament.tourtype in the SELECT list, the answer is not really. If you didn't need t.tourtype in the SELECT list, you could have:

Missing / blank images in galleries - PLEASE HELP

Someone else asked this earlier this year, with no real satisfactory answer.
Consistently, when I create galleries in Aperture, about 10 percent of the images end up as blank thumbnails and larger images. This is maddening and unusable. (I'm sending galleries to magazines, and I have to always send a second gallery of the dropped / missing images). I've tried adjusting the thumbnail and image sizes to different parameters (no improvement). I've tried re-processing the gallery multiple times (it just ends up with different images missing). I've tried leaving my computer completely untouched while it's creating the gallery (no improvement).
Is this happening to anyone else? I can't be the only one suffering from this. When I view the galleries within Aperture, it's all there. Only once I view the exported gallery in a browser are images gone. (I've tried viewing in different browsers.)
Any suggestions? I pray that this is fixed in the next version of Aperture, if not before.

I have found that there are so much to be worked out with this aperture software.
I am sticking with Adobe Lightroom and my Nikon NX software. They are both so much easier to use and considerably less time consuming.
I'm, sorry I wasted the money on Aperture.
If I am speding more time & effort on the sodtware than with my camera shooting, something is clearly not right.

Lightroom photo galleries and their swf files

I have a question about using the photo galleries that lightroom exports in flash catalyst. what I'm trying to do is use multiple photo galleries for different states in my flash application (www.negativeselfimage.com is the site). flash catalyst allows you to import as many swfs as you want, but the problem is the gallerydata.xml files, and the images folders, which are different for every gallery I export. I mucked my way around in flash builder to point to custom folders I built, so each swf file is in its own folder with its own materials. however, the swf file seems to be looking for gallerydata.xml in an absolute directory.
my basic question is, how can I get that swf file to either point to a relative path place (it should still be relatively the same) or allow me to change to where it points to?
either that, or -- if this seems like the wrong path -- how can I use multiple lightroom swf galleries in one flash catalyst or flash builder application?

Photo galleries

Is there a way to make the photo gallery thumbnails larger? I don't see a way to customize them, it says in the help section that you can click on customize and edit the thumbnail sizes. I don't see a customize button.

Insert the photo gallery in a page
Open the page in editing mode by selecting Site Manager > Pages, and clicking the page in the tree view.
Place the cursor in the content editor where you want to insert the photo gallery.
In the Modules tab of the Toolbox found on the right of the editor, select Photo Galleries.
Select your photo gallery from the list. If you want to change the properties of the photo gallery, click Customize and adjust the properties.
Click Insert.Business Catalyst inserts a placeholder tag representing the module. Example:{module_photogallery,32174}. When you publish the page, the module replaces the placeholder tag.
Click Publish or Save Draft.

Photo Galleries In iWeb

i have a number of photos in iPhoto that i want to upload to my iWeb website. When i drag a whole album over to the gallery it lays all the pictures out on the screen. is there any way to keep them separated in different galleries?

I have done this once... (http://www.teija.se) "Look under Mina Bilder"
But since then i have upgraded to Leopard and lost my site in iWeb and my skills to do this.
So if anyone can help me/us i would appreciate it very much.
