Held back by the partion selection when installing Windows 8.1 with Update
Hello, all,
I just bought a brand new model MBP and also downloaded the newest Windows 8.1 Update which was released yesterday.
Everything goes well until I enter the screen where to select the partition to install Windows.
-- If booted from EFI (the default reboot after bootcamp job), the screen shows "Can't use the current partition, because system volume has not reahced the available requirements." (may not be the exact words as I used a language other than English)
I see the EFI parition is marked System Volume and the Bootcamp partion is makred Main Parition. Is this the cause of the issue? But how can I change the Bootcamp partition to a System Parition?
and If booted from the USB disk created by bootcamp, the error would be "Windows can't be installed to this disk because the disk is in GPT partition format."
I've tried a few times and had no luck. Does anyone know what was going on? Or anyone also has this issue? Thanks a lot for any help!

Have you partitioned the drive with Boot Camp Assistant? If not, start up in OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and create a partition for Windows (the process is automatic). Then, Boot Camp will set your Mac to start up from the USB drive automatically, so you will only have to follow these steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data canny be read from or written to"?
Regarding not being able to open iPhoto. As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Were you able to create a new library?
If so then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

The same printer was working OK with my old PC with OS Windows 7
However I got a new PC with OS Windows 8.1 64bit
I installed the new driver for HP Photosmart B110a that I dowloaded from HP site. Driver forWindows 8.1 64bit.
In addition to not being able to chose the paper size, also when I go to Printer Properties in Options, all the characters are non-ascii.
Do you know what may be the problem?

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issues when attempting to print from your computer.
I also see that you stated that not all the options are available in the printing preferences options. This could be because the installation was not complete or it failed.
I suggest that we do a complete uninstall/ reinstall as well as some additional steps.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If you have the printer connected to the computer with a usb cable, please remove the cable from both ends and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The next link that I have for you will give you detailed instructions for Uninstalling the Printer Software. Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer so that the changes take affect.
When the computer is back up and running, please disable any firewalls or anti virus protection you may have running. We don't want anything getting in the way of the reinstall.
The following download is the HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers. Save this download to the desktop of the computer so that it creates its own icon. This will make it easy for us to find when the download is complete.
Double click the new icon and follow the installation instructions. The installation will give you connection options (Wireless , usb or Ethernet), if connecting usb, please wait for the prompt to connect the cable. Connecting the usb cable before hand can cause an issue with the installation.

The photos in my IPhoto have all become mini-thumbnails and I can't open or edit them. When I print the image it comes out normal size. How do I get the thumbnails back to the standard size and be able to work with the photo files?
What version of iPhoto and system are you running? On the guess that you're running the latest iPhoto, 9.4.2, Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the thumnails, Option #2.
2 - It may take 2-3 attempts so don't give up after only one attempt.

They changed the way we see our appointments. That's awful! Is there a way to chnage back to the "old" way when you could see all your appointments at a glance????
Maybe I'm fool, but how I get the "day view"? I have three options on the top line, an icon that seems a computer (a square and two lines), a magnifying glass to search a especific item and a "plus" to add appointments. The "day view" isn't any more there - that's the point!!! Using the first icon a get the full month-that uses 2/3 of the screen- and two lines of appointments...To see the rest I have to slide up and down the two lines taking care to not touch the month...

I get the following message when installing 11.0.5 "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" for windows install
I just found a way to get Fixit to Run. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ and then pick "Install or upgrade software or hardware" and run Fixit from the "Run" button on the webpage. I just picked run, instead of save, and ran it directly from the web page for each of the apple software. If the window doesn't come up full size, hit "Tab" twice and then "Return". You'll be able to see the prompts from there. Have it attempt to uninstall iTunes on its own. Repeat the process for any of the other Apple products, including Bonjour and iCloud. Then, go to the iTunes website and install from there. I had a downloaded copy and installed from there, but it came up with an error about missing the apple help, or something like that. It allowed me to uninstall, and I reinstalled direclty from the website, and it all works now.

What is the 0x80070570 error when installing Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1 on a clean SSD/HDD ?! These versions are full from MSDN.
What I did already:
check my RAM (16go gskill)
remove unnecessary hard drives
replace my "old" SSD with a clean new one
remove my sound cards
remove the mouse and use only keyboard
reset the BIOS
check every LED on the motherboard (asus sabertooth z77) and there is no problem

If all images cannot be installed, we have a reason to suspect the hardware cause.
If you use two memory slots to get 16G RAM, I suggest you test with just one (8G) to check the result.

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and it says to re-install the toolbar but I have not been successful in doing so. I went to the forums and tried all the suggested fixes but none worked. Can I go back to the older version? I had no trouble with that and I do not like this new version at all. I tried a system restore twice and it did not fix the problem.
I would imagine it's the MyWay Searchbar which is classified by most anti-malware scanners as adware, or even worse as spyware. I say that because I see "SmileyCentral" in your list of plugins and that's an add-on for that particular toolbar. You can disable that via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins.
There are a number of toolbars which won't work with Firefox 4 anymore due to the enhanced protection mechanisms in the browser.
Mozilla recommends that you only install add-ons from its own security site @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/?browse=featured Generally speaking, those have all been tested and approved. The exceptions are those currently under review which are marked with a yellow banner to warn users that they haven't passed Mozilla's labs yet. -
I'd like to know how to permanently increase the type size. I use the Control + to increase the size, but it always goes back to the original setting when I go on to something else.

One thing to try, is to reset (reboot) the iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
If you can not do this reset, you may have a defective Home button. Have an Apple Store Genius look at it, and you might get a new iPad.
