[Helix 2nd gen] Alternative stylus options

Hi all,
Loving my Helix 2nd gen so far. Not happy with the palm rejection (only starts when very close; would love to double the range). But I guess I will just create a toggle button that deactivates the touch screen through the registry.
Anyway, my question: Are there any alternative stylus options for the Helix 2nd gen? I found an older thread indicating that "penabled" Wacom styli(?) work, but I don't think this attribute is displayed on any of their current products.
Any styli you can recommend for the current Helix? (Maybe even one that extends the palm rejection distance?)
Thanks for your advice!
Moritz

I just tested the Stylus of the Lenovo X230T and it works without issues. Guess I have to calibrate it though. The thing I do not like with the Stylus of the Helix 2nd is that the click button is plan to the stylus. So it is allways hard to find and press if you have some bigger fingers.
So - any other Lenovo Wacom Stylus should run, I guess.

  • Helix 2nd Gen Keyboard

I'm looking at purchasing a 2nd gen Helix. Does the Helix with the Core M-5Y70 processor (the more expensive of the two) ship with the Ultrabook Pro keyboard now? I read that in January they would, but I've seen many accounts of people getting the regular Ultrabook keyboard without the extra battery, etc.

Yeah the Helix is great, there are a lot of similar computers but seem to lack in all sorts of things ranging from warranty, ergonomics, software services for example. If you're put off by the device think of it like this: this device is put together very well, the device is future-proof, the features are innovative features unlike a lot of others.
Think of the reason you are buying this device, think of all the scenarios you would like to use this powerful device, and then realise that the cost is reasonable for the end product and personal result.
You get a device which is ultra-mobile, yet powerful enough to take on creative tasks. and yeah it is pricey but what i have done is save for ages! and remember you're not going to have to replace this device for awhile, so think of like an invesment! Yeah i love this helix2 as well, i check the uk site like 2 times a day to see if it released!

  • [Helix 2nd gen] Reconfigure tablet keys

    Hi everyone,
Is it possible to reconfigure the keys on the tablet, specifically the Autorotate on/off key? Would love to instead assign a script (*.bat file) to it that I wrote to switch the touch screen on and off (for ultimate palm rejection).
    Thanks for your help!

FYI: ATNSOFT Key Manager does the job!

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • Is ther a chance that atv 2nd gen read .mkv format?

    hallo,
as a new Apple TV (2nd generation),
i have been trying to change all my storage from .mkv to .m4v (that is the best for the atv)
i have been trying some software like
    1. visual hub
    2. HandBrake
    3. submerge
i have to say that when you want subs, submerge to that in the best way and the atv showed the subs in perfect way. (not cutout on speech breaks like HandBrake)
submerge do that different and simply makes the sub file part of the .m4v.
i have to say that all the software that i have write above to export from .mkv to .m4v or other format do that very but very slowly!
it takes an 2 and a half hours to convert tv show on .mkv that contain 45m of showtime to .m4v.
the file is 1.7Gb capacity (the normal for hd ready (720p) tv show.
now take a second and imagine how many time takes to convert and merge subs to file like movie in 720p that is capacity is 4.7Gb at least.
it takes like one day at least and stuck the software in the middle. seems like impossible to do that.
the whole convert and export thing takes forever and is very annoying that you cant simply convert your storage to .m4v from .mkv in the easy way and without to wait so many time.
if anybody have software or idea
1.how to the convert and merge simply and fast?
    2. the other way to make the atv 2nd gen to read an mkv file with subs (it seems the best way and i would like to know how to doing that)
hopes that my little post here help to some new atv 2nd gen users to understand the all pictur.
    regards and thank you all

so i can say that "apple tv is not a streamer".
No, AppleTV will stream video from your PC/Mac, but it has to be in the iTunes library with iTunes open, and has to be in the correct format which for most purposes will be h264.
    See under video formats:
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
popcorn a110, xstreamer and others better then him because the smp8634 chip?
The chips in some media players may confer some advantages, but it's more a question that Apple don't support MPEG/MPEG-2/ISO/Video_TS/AVI/Divx/MKV etc etc on the AppleTV
Full HD in certain formats/codecs may be beyond AppleTV's hardware, but many others would work if they were supported, it's just that they're not, so you have to convert non-compatible video using apps like the ones you've mentioned.
Many will disagree but I personally think it was a big factor that held back AppleTV1 sales - many of the other formats are popular and widely used, but Apple don't want to support them on AppleTV for one reason or another.
Maybe they expect you to buy/rent everything from iTunes, though there are undoubtedly other factors.
and why apple dosent want to add him the srtreamer option that he can read any format that exist just like the a110 and xstreamer pro
It's nothing to do with streaming, AppleTV does stream, the AppleTV software only supports streaming the formats listed in the specs. As you say there are devices with a much wider repertoire of supported formats, it may be one of those would be better for you.
AppleTV's big plus point is it's user interface - many other (mostly WD) streamers I've tried have very poor interfaces, I've not tried the ones you mention.
why make are lifes so hard!??! (-:
Some will say Apple support a limited set of formats as there are so many variations out there that even devices that say they support things don't fully or have problems with certain files, and limiting formats will reduce issues.
Personally I think it's because they assume most content will come from Macs iLife apps or itunes Store which will produce content in suitable formats. Some will argue that containers like MKV are simply used for potentially illegal disc rips and therefore Apple won't support them (or maybe is pressurised by content providers not to provide them?).
    Anyhow, send feedback here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
I don't think we'll see new formats added, but you never know.
Also, it will be interesting to see what Airplay from iPhones/iPads offers - if it's available to any application this might be a gateway to different format support given teh likes of VLC being ported (in a limited form so far) to iPad.

  • HT4352 how can I move a movie purchased on AppleTV 2nd Gen to my Mac computer

I am using an AppleTV 2nd Gen, and I purchased Skyfall and wish to move it to my Mac to watch.  How can I do this.  I have Home Sharing on correctly, however the AppleTV2 does not show on the iTunes sidebar and I do not see the movie in my purchased content.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community..
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • I just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with another how can i get my itunes back

i just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with the same model and cant seem to get my iyunes back

Don't understand question, Changing iPod shouldn't affect iTunes on the computer you sync with.  Plug in new iPod, it should take you through some screens of options asking how you want to setup the new iPod.
Just did this when going from 7+ year old iPod video to iPod Touch 5th gen.

  • My troubles with Drobo (2nd Gen.)

Hey everyone. I wanted to put my experience here so that people could chip in and learn/share.
For the past five months I had been having with my Drobo (2nd Gen with 2 FW800s and USB 2.0). It came bundled with 2x 1 TB WD drives. I set it up using Drobo Dashboard and for a time, everything was good in my data world.
Then two things happened around the same time: Added a 1.5 TB drive to my Drobo and I added a password to secure disks for my Time Machine. Shortly after my computer was no longer able to access my Drobo data via Finder. Drobo Dashboard would still report to me on it's status. Aperture would save the vaults, iTunes would play music from the drive but I could not access the data through Finder, only with Terminal was I able to move, copy, and open/delete files.
So what should I do but I try different cables, I try both FW ports on the Drobo and even resort to using USB from the Drobo to my computer. Issue remains.
So I figure what the heck and I plug my Drobo via USB into my Time Capsule, it had worked before for me so let's see... "WHAT!?" I could see the files in folder... "AMAZING!!!" But wait, ***!? I move from the Drobo Directory back to my user directory and try to go back and I can't. It shows me that horrible site of the Drobo just as bad Alias. Double clicking it has Finder offer to fix the alias but alas that doesn't work just like I knew it wouldn't.
I unmount the Drobo and retry going to Network>Time Capsule> Drobo and BAM! Finder sees the files again, but I change directories and hit 'Back' and now the Drobo is a bad alias again... "Darnit!"
This is starting to agitate me but being comfy with unix I survive, every day I hate plugging in the Drobo because I won't have that GUI-ease any more. Months pass and having contacted Drobo, Apple, tech-savy friends I get nowhere.
Then one day I try plugging my Drobo into my PowerMac G4 and the Drobo works fine there. (This is where I should've gotten my first clue). So I try to have my MBP access the Drobo through Network> PMG4>Drobo and "Hooray" it is there again... but I am still not out getting beers of celebration. So I change directories and go back and darn I have the same alias issue.
So now I see that my MBP can access the files via a Network connection 'one-time only' and other than that my other system works fine with it. My cousin brings his MBP over and we test it out, it is perfect on his system. He can access the files, change directories from Drobo to his system and back again all day long, it is perfect... This is puzzling me to no end.
I talk to one of my great friends who has the in with all issues with the 'good' companies. He mentions a possible bad Symlink and that gives me fuel to start my hunt for a resolution. Months go by and I get no where.
This is destroying my tech-esteem, myself who is a AASP server guy and general S.M.A.R.T.-@$$. So I reach out again to my pals in various tech fields and no progress is made other than I learn a few more terminal commands.
Well two weeks ago I say, "screw it!" and I start copying my Drobo data off to my other drives and spend the following 5 days copying things via Terminal from the Drobo to 3 different drives. At one point of the copy I tell terminal to "sudo cp -rfv /Volumes/Drobo /Volumes/Extra Drive " and you won't guess what happened within 30 seconds I was not able to access that drive via Finder though Terminal was still copying data just fine. So I stopped Terminal with Cmd+. and removed the invisible files that it had copied and then the Drive was good again in Finder... So changed my cp command and only did the two visible folders that mattered to me. Finder was still happy... (HINT!)
I finally have my Drobo empty and things set aside and I figure that this time I won't use Drobo Dashboard to format it. So I go over to Disk Utility to reformat it. It fails! So this is where I get lucky and hit myself in the head because it never dawned on me to think about the limit of the Apple Partition Map (2 TBs). I knew a long time ago that APM didn't like being formatted for more than 1 TB and 2 TB was out of the question. So I have Disk Utility reformat the drive for GUID. It works but there is a problem, Drobo Dashboard says that data is still on the Drobo.
Okay Drobo Dashboard, I'll play your game. So I go through the set up assistant and figure out what happened (maybe). I think what originally happened is when I got the Drobo I set it up to be a 1 TB volume so Drobo Dashboard just set it to APM by default. So when I added the other 1.5 TB drive in months later, rather than just making that 1.5 drive a 1 TB image drive it went crazy with it and went halfway with APM and GUID structures. I say it that way because since it was my MBP that was plugged in with the Drobo originally the Symlink between my Drobo and MBP was different that other peoples units. <I'll interject right here will quick and add that in the 5 months of my Drobo not working with my computer I had 3 new hard drives, 5 fresh installs, and a new logic board. I even tried to triage the /dev folder for issues and that turned up nothing>
So I took a second and revisited Drobo's latest updates and manuals and so I set up my Drobo to be 16 TBs in size though it has only 2x 1 TB and a 1.5 TB drive. Drobo Dashboard set up the unit to be GUID, erased the ghost data that had lingered from Disk Utility and things were fine. Finder was finally working again so I copied over my system's User folder to the Drobo and it worked fine, navigation was GUI again and for 30 minutes I tested everything. I hope that with this out there other people can learn from my time and trials. Please don't hesitate to comment or question me. I'd be happy to help and/or go into more detail.
Quick side note though. Drobo should've seen this at the very get go had they asked better questions and actually looked at the screen shots I submitted to them of Finder, Drobo Dashboard, Disk Utility and more. The fact that Drobo doesn't give you the APM/GUID option during the walk through (and them smartly disabling it for people who go over 2 TBs is stupid on their part as well IMO). Thanks for reading and good luck to you and your data!

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above:
Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library: Loading songs onto iPod automatically
However as she is going to use her iPod on another computer she would need to set her iPod to manual update:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • 2nd Gen iPod shuffle is not recognized by iTunes or computer

I read the other posts about people's 2nd Gen Ipod shuffles not being rcognized by iTunes or their computer, but none of them seemed to fit.
I have had my iPod shuffle for less than a week. Last time I had my iPod connected to iTunes in the "Settings" section I clicked "Do not automatically open iTunes and synch with iPod" or something along those lines. I assumed this meant iTunes wouldn't always open when I plugged it in to charge it.
However, now when I plug it into my computer, iTunes does not recognize it and I get a message from my computer that there is a "USB Device Not Recognized" and the error message reads: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows up as an "Unrecognized Device". I have tried plugging it into a different USB port, and I have also downloaded the "Ipod Reset Utility" to try to reset it to it's factory settings, in case that would allow it to synch up with iTunes again. This does not work. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can get iTunes to recognize my iPod again? Thank you!

Brand new ipod shuffle (2nd gen). When I plug it into the USB port, a "Disk Insertion" prompt warning appears with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The two options in the prompt window are 'Eject' or 'Ignore.'
Having read other message boards, I decided to plug it into a PC computer and re-formatted it with FAT 32 filing system, but the exact same thing still happens. My MacBook give me the same message when I plug the shuffle to the computer. iTunes does not recognize it that anything is plugged in either.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi MJ,
after reading a lot of posts concerning connection problems with the iPod Shuffle 2G I finally found a solution. A lot of people had similar problems because of broken or damaged connection cables, pins etc. but also because sometimes the USB plug didn't sit tight enough.
That's how I recognized that this was also the case with mine. I was able to move it quite a lot, even plugged-in. So I tried the second USB port that seemed to be a little tighter already. Nevertheless I still got the short amber blinking light when I plugged it in completely.
What did the trick for me was to pull the USB plug back out a little until a short green light appeared, then I pushed it back inside a little until I got an alternating amber light. At the same time iTunes recognized the iPod. Also the plug sat stable at this point and I didnt move it anymore until I disconnected again. In the beginning a tried this method a couple of times until it actually worked, as the point of the best connection seems to be really small.
So as it seems in the end it wasn't a software problem but one of a too loose USB plug. Probably buying a new cable could also solve your problem.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen not detected by iTunes 11.3

I have two Macs both running Mavericks 10.9.4 and iTunes 11.3.
Neither one can detect my 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle!
I have tried all the recommended tips published at apple.com and elsewhere.
I have access to a Win 7 box with iTunes 10.x and it sees the Shuffle just fine.
Windows iTunes reports 1.0.4 software on the Shuffle.
In terms of status lights, I get a SINGLE orange flash on the Shuffle when I first plug it in to either Mac...then nothing.
I have an external charger for the Shuffle so I can confirm that it is fully charged.
    Any suggestions?

  • Ipod touch Why won't my 2nd gen ipod touch sync with ical

Rather recently my ipod touch (2nd gen) won't sync with the ical.  The only information that shows up is birthdays.  None of my appointments past or future are syncing.  What is happening?
I have tried to 1. select individual calendars and 2. tried to select "all" and even 3. tried the one time replace all calendar options.  No go.  I can't get events to show up other than birthdays.
I only sync with the USB port to my macbook pro
    Very strange.

In fact I had only the birthday calendar turned on.  I was unaware that could be done.  Now that I have all showing it works just fine.  Thanks!

  • IPod Nano (2nd Gen) wont sync with Itunes 9

I haven't had to sync my iPod for a while, so I think it might be an issue with Itunes 9, but I am not sure.
I have a 2nd gen nano, and itunes recognises it when I plug it in, my iPod display the Do not disconnect thing, but it doesnt sync. I have it set to manually manage music, but that won't make any difference will it? Under "file" the option to Sync Songs on iPod is greyed out.
Does anyone know what to do about this? i'm really annoyed as I do not want to restore my iPod as I have some music on it that I can't find anymore (think it went missing when I moved my library 2 years ago)

i didnt realised iTunes had been changed so you had to physically drag the music you wanted on the iPod onto there yourself.
You don't have to. Only if you want to manually manage the music yourself.
i decided to just automatically sync it, but now it has wiped everything off, and is putting it all back on again! will it do that every time
    No.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen Battery Replacement?

I have a 32 Gig Ipod Touch 2nd Gen, bought it when it first game out. Battery has been really poor lately and I took it to the Apple Store to see what I can do. They told me that they don't do battery replacements, just replace the whole unit. I said fine, until they came back from their computer and told me that it would cost me $250! I was pretty shocked, they just smiled and said, well they are trying to encourage people to drop their old units and buy new ones.
Anyways, $250.00 to replace a battery that should cost no more than $50.00 as per any other battery I've every replaced is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. With that said, does anyone know of any options to get my battery replaced, a good place I can send it in to, I'd like to get a "GOOD" battery not some cheap unit that will die on me quick.
Comment to Apple, I don't mind paying a little extra to replace the unit with a new battery but $250 is absolutely absurd, and to hear a comment on a perfectly good unit that Apple is charging a lot to encourage people to buy newer gens is very upsetting. I was eventually planning on getting a 64Gig version but at the cost, it's just not worth it to know that these items are just disposible once the battery dies! I hope you consider changing your policy in the future to something more reasonable. However old it is, any other product I have costs me a few dollars to replace the battery and I get good use out of it for a very long time!
    Thanks

In the USA, Apple would charge $79 plus shipping for battery replacement:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/#us
This place will charge $35 plus shipping

  • Ipod 2nd Gen Purchase Recovery?

I have a iPod touch 2nd gen. I purchased $50 + of music and apps for it, so when it displayed a "connect to itunes" screen for no particular reason I quickly connected to itunes. It told me I HAD to restore the ipod because it had been put into restore mode (something I hadn't done). I was very upset because I did not sync my ipod with Itunes yet, so all my purchases would be lost. I accepted the lost and clicked restore, once it had finished restoring the ipod screen still said to connect to itunes, and itunes said to restore it again, so I did, 4 times. Eventually It actually worked and now I have a new name for my ipod, crapple. I am hopeing that I can recover my $50+ of apps and music, and if not I will not purchase any more junk from apple ever again, I have had nothing but problems. I should of chucked all my apple stuff out long ago. How hard would it be to wirelessly sync for an account, so that the only time I have to plug the device in is for charging?
Yes i'm frustrated, and yes I deserve to be.

You can redownload apps at no additional cost as long as you are signed into the same account that purchased the original apps.
If you are in the USA and you have the latest iTunes (10.3.1) should be able to redownload your other iTunes purchases via the iCloud Beta. See:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If you are not in the USA, not options will be available.
If you are not in the USA contact iTunes and they may allow a redownload.  To contact them go to:
    Apple - Support - iTunes
