Helix: BSOD when going to sleep!!!

I have followed this and other threads about sleep issues with the Helix, written some posts, but not got wiser.
Lenovo Helix, 36986CG, W8.1 Pro 64b, Kaspersky Internet Security 2015, Malwarebytes Antimalware, , all updated, incl. BIOS (1.29), running TPFC for fan noise issue.
After reverting to W8 and upgrading to W8.1 again and running System Update, the problem persists. Tried several options, like disabling the Intel Rapid Start Tech, fiddeling with Power options, Hibernation enabled and disabled... Nothing helped.
I now have looked around in settings and logs and found out, the Helix/Windows is bluescreening, everytime its going into sleep mode. I first noticed it months ago when Firefox  had problems reopening the tabs ("Now this is embarrassing" and so on) every time I start it, like after a chrash. And Firefox had no crash record. In Lenovo Solution Center, under Support: Configuration History, pick one day in calendar and choose System Events tab. Mine says 50+ events! Looking in C:\Windows\Minidump there are stacks of log reports, just from today, the last timestamp corelating to the last time it went to sleep.
I've noticed, when the Helix is going into sleep mode (lid open or closed), the LED blinks three times. As supposed to. But it doesnt glow short every half a minute, like it should when in sleep. Pressing the power button, the Helix starts from scratch.
BIOS and Power management are reverted to default (incl. disabling hibernation and go sleep when lid closed)) settings problem still there. Thinking about starting all over (clean install) but hesitate with the thaught of all the work and time involved in this... And I had a look in the Drives Management: There are 4 (four!) recovery partitions (1000, 450, 350 MB and 15,4 GB, as well as one OEM-Partition, 7 GB, and EFI-System Partition with 260 MB), what's that all about?
With all the threads about Helix and sleep in mind, is this a design flaw, Lenovo can't get around or don't they bother??? Or is there a solution out ther, non of us poor suckers with a Helix have found yet?

bamaster wrote:
When undocked and in tablet mode, how do I turn off the screen?  Normal tablets would do this by tapping the power button.  My Helix does nothing when I do that.  I suppose I can swipe to Settings and Power to send it to sleep.  But that's a little cumbersome.
Or is there a way to set the behaviors of the power button?  Ideas?
Yes, in control panel - power options - change what the power button does: you can set the power button to sleep here.

  • Beep when going to sleep

My MBA is often playing a beep sound whenever it goes to sleep. This beep sounds like it's coming from an internal speaker and not the sound card itself.
I've called Apple today and they asked me to restore something (by pressing CmdOpt+RP) and when I tried to put to sleep while the lady from Apple was on the phone it did not make the sound.
But after using the MBA for awhile, it's still making this beep when I close the lid. And just now, it made a beep while I was using it.
Any ideas? I ran the disk and system tests, repaired disk permissions but had no success yet.
This laptop is only 4 months old

    Hi Raisen,
The Apple phone agent walked you through resetting the PRAM, which often times can resolve issues with a computer. Is the beeping noise only occurring when you go to sleep the machine by closing the lid? What if you sleep the machine via the software? Does it still beep?
Furthermore, what exactly does the beep sound like? I've seen scenarios on Apple portables where beeping can occur in many different ways so I tracked down some articles. Do any of those fit the bill?

  • Not backing up when going to sleep?

A few times each day, after my computer's been sleeping, it turns back on and says that hit had an error backing up. I then click okay and it seems that it's good to go for a while. But it always pops up again. I am guessing it has something to do with the system going to sleep right as it's beginning the backup process or the like, but am clueless as to how to figure out what's going on and how to fix it. Any and all thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi dhaz-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Generally this behavior is caused by an external peripheral or internal PCI card.
Try disconnecting all USB and FireWire peripherals including hubs. If the mouse and keyboard are wired give each of those it's own USB port on the Mac. See if this solves the problem.

  • T61p: Vista - BSOD when resume from sleep / hibernate, casued by classpnp.sys

I've got a T61p (Type: 6457) with preinstalled Vista, later upgraded with SP1. Everything worked like a charm, untill a week or so, when the BSOD appeared when either resuming from sleep or hibernation.
I've checked the minidump, and it seems as the classpnp.sys is causing the trouble, however, I've yet not found a good solution to fix the problem (I'm close to doing a restore to factory install, but would like to avoid if possible

There's an issue with your GPU, video driver or both...try running this for a while:
    http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm
If there's an underlying problem, this test will reveal it. And when I say "a while" I mean for an hour or more...
Please be advised that if your GPU is on its way out (I've had them fail on T60p due to VRAM corruption) this test might just finish it and push it over the edge. Proceed at your own risk.
    Good luck.

  • Helix freezes when resuming from sleep mode

Every time I close the lid, the Helix enters sleep mode. Then, when I reopen it and enter my password, the computer freezes, most often taking me to the Photos app.  In order to resume work, I have to use the Power button to shut down and restart.  Very frustrating -- can't even walk across the room with the lid closed without having to restart, often losing whatever I was working on.  Any ideas?

    Hi Yvonnerose,
    Thank you for the reply!
    1) Update your bios and update the Intel Management Engine firmware to the latest. Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page#
    2) if issues still persist, please check the installed RAMS or he secondary RAM installed as in some cases it has been found cause the interruptions. If the system is shipped with dual memory try running with only one RAM first to check if problem still persist.
    3) If both of the above fails please contact nearby Authorized Lenovo service support teams, they will able to advise according on the next course of action.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • My iMac won't stay asleep, or it will turn itself off when going to sleep

If I select Sleep from the Apple menu, the screen goes blank, the light waxes and wanes once and the computer wakes up again.
When I allow it go to sleep by itself (my screen saver comes on after being idle for 15 minutes, then it should go to sleep after being idle for 45 minutes), then the screen goes dark, the light waxes and wanes once and then the light stays out, the display stays dark and after a few seconds the fans start running at high speed. It won't wake up by mouse or keyboard, I have to hold the power button for a few seconds, until a faint click tells me it's truly shut down. Then I can restart. I have tried resetting the SMU twice and that did not make any difference. What else can I do to make my iMac behave?

We have a couple macs running on a corporate network with a Cisco infrastructure. Windows servers on the back end providing DHCP. Macs are connected to Cisco 3500 or 3700 series switches.
When the macs go to sleep or stand by mode or even sometimes a reboot they do not grad an IP address or they loose their IP address and just have a 169.x.x.x ip.
We have to reboot a couple times or wait awhile for an IP to come up.
We have consulted Cisco and some local Mac dealers and no one seems to know what to do??????

Hi, and Welcome to the Disscusions robbamann!

  • 2012 Mini crashes when going to sleep on Windows 8.1 x64 with 5621 drivers

When putting my 2012 Mac Mini to sleep on Windows 8.1, sometimes it will be unresponsive when I attempt to wake it with the keyboard/mouse. At this point the Mac Mini is off (no pulsing light) and when I press the power button it will cold boot (with the chime and grey boot screen).
This issue started after I installed the new 5621drivers. Any idea which driver is causing this so I can roll back that particular driver?

Never mind I solved my own problem. I normally put my computer to sleep using a shortcut that runs the following in a command line:
    rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
However this shortcut only works correctly if hibernation is turned off, and I'm guessing updating the boot camp drivers may have enabled hibernation even though it appeared to still be disabled.
I went into the power options and enabled hybrid sleep and hibernation, then disabled them again. Then I opened a command line as administrator and ran the following command:
    powercfg -h off
After this my sleep shortcut works again everytime without crashing Windows.

The problem is very annoying as I have to keep the laptop always on in order not to reopen all applications every day. The BSOD description is:
    Problem signature:

    Thanks!

After more than a week with BSOD they are back and even twice a day.
@Hemanth I've uploaded the dump file to this location: http://www.filedropper.com/073114-8985-01
Using Windbg I got the following
    1: kd> !analyze -v
    * Bugcheck Analysis *
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffff80000003, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff800034c69d0, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: fffff880232903f8, Exception Record Address
    Arg4: fffff8802328fc50, Context Record Address

    Hi all!
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed a split second white screen flash (every once in a while) when putting their display to sleep.  On refresh, everything looks as normal.

  • Slow going to sleep

Does anyone have any ideas how to speed my imac up when going to sleep , for the past few days it seems to take ages shutting down where as before it was quite quick i haven't downloaded anything or altered any settings . Im running Snow Leopard on an intel based imac , by the way i'm not to technically minded so simple is best

I recently experienced the same problem when selecting the sleep option from the apple menu. The problem started after installing Weatherbug. The sleep option returned to normal after quitting Weatherbug. Your problem may be different but this worked for me.
