Helix -- Lenovo Confirmed Broken Autorotation in Windows 7

Has anyone found a solution to the Helix's broken autorotation in windows 7?
One month ago, Lenovo posted the following which acknowledged the problem but I'm unable to find any mention of a fix on the web.
AutoRotate not working after installing Microsoft Windows 7 for ThinkPad Helix

Agreed. It seems a bit silly for Lenovo to brush this off and ignore it. There are plenty of corporate customers that use Windows 7 and may want to continue using it on Helix.
Did you just resurrect a 4 month old thread?
I fail to see how fixing an operating system feature, AutoRotate, for Windows 7 is Lenovo's responsibility. You should contact the developer who did not include support for Autorotate -- Microsoft..

If Bluetooth is not detected, mean that the actual hardware somehow is disabled. In order to enable, boot the PC with a Windows 7 live DVD with the USB drive installed in the PC. After PC been running with Windows 7 live, Install the file “h1100174.exe” previously copy in the USB drive. Use the USB drive also as installation path for the Bluetooth software, when the installation is done, look in the folder “X:\Program Files\Lenovo\Bluetooth Software” and run the file name “BTTray.exe”, press right click in the Red Bluetooth icon on the taskbar to enabled the Bluetooth dongle. Reboot PC in Windows 8.1 without any DVD media inside, this time Windows 8.1 will be able to recognize the Bluetooth and install the respective drivers.
Another way, install the latest release from Broadcom BTW_12.0.0.9820 from the following link:
                                                                            BTW_12.0.0.9820.zip
directly in Windows 8.1. Remember if the software is uninstall the Bluetooth will be disabled and
Windows will not be able to see the device in the “Device Manager”
Last step, use your own Windows 8.1 Pro Key and Office 2013 key to register and activated your legal copy of the Microsoft software’s.
    Final, enjoy.

Sch..... - HDD (WD-blue 1 TB) defekt?Western-Digital-Diagnostik-Tool laufen lassen – too much bad sectors.

  • Lenovo Ideapad S410p/S510p - Windows 7 installation issues - USB Ports, Nvidia Graphics Install

    Hi all,
I recently bought a Lenovo S410p and wanted to install Window 7 - Home Edition. I faced a number of issues - At BIOS level, then it refused to detect USB 2.0, then it refused to install latest Nvidia GEForce drivers (need to install some intel driver but no idea which one it should be!) . It was a nightmare! While doing that, I realized, my touch pad was a bit damaged, the buttons seem to be depressed, it was causing a ridge between the pad and the keys - quite annoying. I took it back to the stores, they did not have another S410p - Hence I settled for the larger screen S510p - paid the difference. Good service from Lenovo!
Now back home and tried installing Windows 7 - All the same problems surfaced again. Tinkered for a week and no luck! Then I decided to clean everything up and start from scratch. Trust me it worked this time! I am not a computer geek but a normal user with very limited/basic knowledge. Let me explain what I did,
    I. BIOS/UEFI Setup
    1. You can enter the BIOS by pressing Fn+F2 key during laptop startup.
    2. Tab: Configuration - Make sure "USB Legacy" is "Enabled". Leave the rest as is.
    3. Tab: Boot - Here are few things that need to be set,
      a. Boot Mode – “Legacy Support”
      b. Boot Priority – “Legacy First”
      c. USB Boot – “Enabled” – Optional if you are going to install Windows 7 via a bootable USB drive.
      d. Boot Priority Order – Start with either “ATAPI CD:” or “USB HDD:” – Depending on your installation preference – Then followed by your hard disk. In my case, I replaced the 1 TB Samsung HDD with my favorite SSD. Hence, my 2nd boot device was “ATA HDD:”.
    4. That was pretty much the start you need to install Windows 7. Exit BIOS by pressing Fn+F10 and “Yes”.
II. Install Windows 7. This is fairly straightforward. Your computer will restart a few times till you are able to login and go to your workspace. Follow the instruction as per your installer. Once done, you will notice a host of items in your “device manager” (Control Panel – Hardware and Sound – Device Manager ) that need updated drivers. This is where the issues start! So be patient and you need to follow a specific order to install everything – else something or other will end up broken – Like I ended pulling my hair for 2 weeks!
III. Install drivers in a specific order. Download the following drivers from the Lenovo website, save it in the specific order that I would recommend. Please do not install completely yet – There are a few things to be done. Make sure you select the right Windows driver – 32 bit or 64 bit.
    Link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS037027
Step 1: Download and Install Driver - Chipset. There are two drivers here – Chipset and Intel Management Engine. Install both. Restart if asked.
(I downloaded the files in Step 1,2 and 3 through another computer and copied the files into my S510p via flash drive. The USB 3.0 ports were working after the installation of fresh windows. I believe Step 1,2 and 3 can be interchanged but I did not try that.)
Step 2: Download and Install Driver - Networking: LAN (Ethernet). Restart if asked.
Step 3: Download and Install Driver - Networking: Wireless LAN. Restart if asked.
(Now you are connected to internet!)
Step 4: Download and Install Driver - Storage. Restart if asked.
Step 5: Download and Install Driver - Mouse and Keyboard. Restart if asked.
Step 6: Download and Install Driver - Recovery. Restart if asked.
Step 7: Download and Install Driver - Power management. Restart if asked.
Step 8: Download and Install Driver - Camera and Card Reader. Restart if asked.
Step 9: Download and Install Driver - USB Device, FireWire, IEEE 1394. Restart if asked.
Note: If you have reached here so far, you will notice that all your USBs are working, including the USB 2.0 on the right side.
Step 10: Download and Install Driver - Bluetooth and Modem. Restart if asked.
Step 11: Download and Install Driver - Audio. Restart if asked.
Reaching so far, you are on the right path. Next is the waiting game. You let windows auto update itself – this can take almost a day or two depending on your internet connection. Go to “Control Panel – System and Security – Windows Update” and make sure all updates are installed and you system is up-to-date. This is absolutely essential. Once it is done, you are ready to install Nvidia GEForce drivers.
Step 12: Download and Install Driver - Display and Video Graphics - Intel Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit). Restart if asked.
Step 13: Download and Install Driver - Display and Video Graphics - NVIDIA VGA Driver for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit). Restart if asked.
Now you can see that the graphic card has been recognized and all drivers have been installed.
Step 14: Download and Install Driver –All the rest of drivers you can find in the link above. Restart if asked.
Folks, this was the only way it worked for me. Maybe, there is an easier way that I might have missed in the forums.
All the best and apologies for the long post!

    Hi,
I just checked my BIOS and the graphics is set to Optimus. Maybe, your current drivers is the cause for the issue. You may try unistalling them and re-install the exact version as the one I have (did some reading and it seems like it is the latest one).
This is the version of the Nvidia driver I have - Nvidia GeForce 820m- 9.18.13.2762. Not sure if this came through during the automatic windows update.
I did a quick search and found a direct driver download link - http://www.notebook-driver.com/detail/lenovo-driver-id-24155/.
If I get some time this weekend, I will try a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate and see if I face same issues as your's. Anyways. hope for the best!

Update:  I've not had stability when using the Windows 8.1 driver on my Yoga 2 Pro running Windows 10.  The Intel HD Graphics Family driver shows "Working Properly" after first reverting back to the Windows 8.1 driver and the Micro-HDMI port works initially.  At some point though, I end up with the device showing disabled and I'm also having Audio issues.   I decided to upgrade the BIOS which went OK (upgraded from Kona BIOS Version 76CN31WW to Version 76CN43WW).  Then I re-installed the Windows 10 Intel HD Graphics Family driver from the Lenovo website (Version 10.18.15.2040 showing a data of 7/15/15 on the website but 6/16//15 once installed).  However, the driver shows disabled as not working properly so I'm not happy. I'll continue to consider purchasing a support option but figure it'll only reap an apology and perhaps some information confirming the problem but I expect paying for support won't result in a working Windows 10 driver any sooner.  I'm not aware how to report a problem like this to Lenovo without paying them to hear about the trouble they're causing me.Let me stop you from wasting your money.  I too had the problem you described.  What I made sure of was that once I installed that 8.1 driver, and in my case, the one dated March 2014, I went into Windows Update and disabled automatic updates.  That is where it kept getting updated for me.  That was a week ago and still have stability using the old driver. Hope this helps.  Intel needs to make a stable Windows 01 driver like yesterday.

  • Installing windows 7 on Lenovo G500 without losing preinstalled windows 8

I want to keep the preinstalled version of windows 8 and install windows 7 too but after a few hours of research the only sugestion in every method is choosing one of the versions. Is there any way I can keep both?

    Hi Touctzba,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I understand your concern, Lenovo does not recommend multi boot OS (Operating System) as the computer pre-installed applications are programmed to perform on single Windows platform to provide the best performance as per OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). I would suggest you to create a Recovery Drive for Windows 8 using the below link and then installing other OS.
How to Create a USB Recovery Drive and Use it to Recover Windows 8/8.1?
Do post us back for further queries.

  • Lenovo E540 video problems on Windows 8.1

    Hi,
I've just recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 with the following configuration:
    - i7-4702MQ(2.2GHz)
    - 4GB RAM
    - 500GB 7200rpm HD
    - 15.6in 1920x1080 LCD
    - 2GB NVIDIA N14P-GV2
    - CDRW/DVDRW
    - Intel 802.11bgn wireless
    - 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav
    - Secure Chip
    - Fingerprint reader
    - Camera
    - 6c Li-Ion
    - Dos license
The first thing i did was to install Windows 8.1, as it seems that it's the preffered OS for this laptop.
After this, i've installed all the drivers from the Lenovo Support site and all the programs that i normally use.
This is when everything went wrong.
In Photoshop CS6 i cannot zoom in and out, the image always stays the same. Only if i minimize and maximize Photoshop does the program refresh the image at the selected zoom level.
In Sketchup the same problem, if i try to rotate or pan the image, nothing happens. After minimize/maximize, the image is refreshed.
After a small research, i've discovered that i can change the prefferd video adapter from the Nvidia Control Panel.
Everything was set to Intel HD4600 so i changed all the mentioned programs to GeForce 740M.
This didn't solve the problem, but changed it. In Photoshop for example, this time the canvas doesn't appear at all.
So, a little research later and i found out that by disabling the hardware acceleration in each program, they started working.
This works on either of the video adapters, it doesn't matter which one is selected in the Nvidia Control Panel.
So i thought that i had it figured out, even though a new laptop isn't supposed to work like this, bypassing hardware acceleration in almot all programs
But the problem appeared in Microsoft Office:
In Microsoft Word, i can't change the text color.
In Microsoft Powerpoint, i can't change the background color.
Even if i disable the hardware acceleration, the problem is still there.
Finally i decides that maybe the operating system has an incompatibility with the drivers, so i formatted all and installed an older Windows 7 that i had.
Everything installed from scratch, drivers and programs.
This time all the programs worked (Photoshop CS5, Sketchup 8, Word and Powerpoint 2010) from the start, without disabling the hardware acceleration.
But the next day, when i wanted to use Powerpoint, the problem came back. The background color doesn't change, and in Word i can't change text color. Even if i disable the hardware acceleration.
So i'm back at the beginning.
I've honestly thought of returning the laptop, as it's the first one with which i've had all these endless problems.
Unfortunately, the store's 30-days back guarantee have passed, almost all of them trying to make it work as it should.
If anyone has any idea about this or has confronted any of these problems, please tell, i just don't know what else to do, the laptop is currently useless.
Thank you for yout patience to read all this.

I am also having this problem. Cannot click either button. Really hope someone can shed some light here.

  • Lenovo support - options for recovering Windows 8 on new X230

Hello, I recently purchased x230 with Windows 8.
I installed Ubuntu 12.0 (attempting to dual boot).  Unfortuantely, Windows 8 is no longer accessible(UEFI error comes up on boot), the restore partition is also corrup ("required partition cannot be found").
I attempted to install win 8 PRO that I purchased from scratch.  It failes because the Windows 8 key embedded into the EFI doesn't match the new Windows 8 PRO that I have on DVD.
I chatted with Lenovo support, asking to purchase restore DVDs for my laptop - I was told that it's not possible (after going thorugh a couple of people and wasting 1.5 hours on chat_
Please provide some support as it is unacceptable that I cannot install clean version of WIndows 8 and the restore disks are not available from Lenovo.
    Thank You.

Unfortunately, win 8 doesn't support dual boot in native or not tweaked mode.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 2 (10") - Windows 8.1 Feature oder Lenovo-Tool?

    Hallo,

  • FF NOT restoring previous tabs. All settings confirmed correct. On Windows 7 - 64 bit

I have three computers - side by side - all Windows 7
All set up with FF 5.01
Two computers operate on Win 7 - 32 and FF usually restores previous sessions.
One PC operates on Win 7 - 64 bit and never restores previous sessions.
