Outside of the US, some carriers sold unlocked iPhone 3GSs as per the laws of the country in which they operated. At no time has the iPhone 3GS (or any iPhone prior to the iPhone 4) been available unlocked in the US, nor will it be unlocked. You can pay full retail price or complete a contract term, but no iPhone will be unlocked by AT&T. You can buy an unlocked iPhone 4 from Apple and use it any where, but you will pay full retail price for the phone.
Next time do a search before you post a question. There are hundreds (not an exaggeration) of threads and responses to this question.

Hello - I recently had my iPhone 3GS Officially unlocked by following the AT&T Unlock Program.
The iPhone was previously running iOS 4.1 (8B117). After I did the restore to iOS 6.0.1 using iTunes. iTunes displays a message, saying its unable to complete the activation at this time. So i gave it a few hours and tried again, but I still get the same error message.
Can anyone please help me, fix this?
P.S: I am trying to use a AIRTEL (India) SIM in the phone.Was it hacked or jailbroken BEFORE you requested a legitimate unlock from AT&T?
If so, the hack has rendered it unable to process the legitimate unlock. -

Unlocking is dependent on carrier networks that are in agreement with Apple.
apple under no circumstances will unlock an iphone that is not supported
for unlocking. such as AT&T in US don't sell unlocked iphones. -
Will apple ever allow iPhone to manage music without connecting to iTunes on a computer?
I record lots of music with my friends and we usually send them over through social media file transfers. My current phone detects the music once downloaded and adds it to my library for playing. Will Apple allow this feature on the iPhone, I am getting one and I am really concerned about this feature, as it is very hectic to keep on connecting your phone to a computer every time you would like to add a song to the default music player's library.
I'm afraid Apple won't allow to add/edit music directly on the iPhone. At least, in the nearest future.

No probably not now because the iPhone 3g is an old phone and since that model, both the iPhone 4 and 4s along with the iPhone 5 have come along, so you will probably only be able to buy either an iPhone 4 or 4s.

No. Terms of the warranty call that "abuse".
You can hope, and try:
Turn it off, leave it off
Put it in a pile of "dessicant packs" (shipping packs found in hard disk boxes), possibly in a plastic bag (NOT rice -- that has rice-dust which gets into the unit)
Maybe try turning it on again in about 4-5 days
But this is really a desperation move, and I would not do it myself (although others say they have tried it).
Most likely you are paying for either a repair or a new unit. -

Hey guys. My IPhone 3GS is unlocked and i went to update the software and it said that an unknown error has occurred and said it needed to be restored to connect with Itunes. When i got to restore it, it gets about 3/4 of the way done, says an unknown error has occured(1015). I have no clue what to do and all and any help would be amazing.
