I originally set up my mini with the included HDMI -> DVI adaptor to connect to a Sycmaster monitor. The graphics were very good.

Hi, I am new to this support site so forgive me if I am doing it wrong but I have a problem that I am at a loss as what to do. My (very) old mac 10.2.8 won't switch on..I really only use it for music , there is a vast amount of music stored in it and am heartbroken that it won't even switch on. I have no idea where to start on trying to fix it. Can somebody please help me on where to start on fixing it
You might want to try resetting its power management unit; see the following tech notes:

The reason I'm suggesting this is that some startup settings are stored and preserved by a tiny battery that lasts about 5 years, inside the computer. When that battery dies, the computer may forget things like what time it is and which disk to start up from. If your Mac is around 5 years old or more, that little battery might be on its way out.
If you can't revive the Mac, don't panic. You can remove its internal hard drive and put it inside a USB/FireWire enclosure so that it can be hooked up to another Mac, and then you can use or copy all of the files and music off of it (assuming the startup problem has nothing to do with the hard drive). -

It's important you understand what "fully support" means in
this
context. According to Eric Palmer's Dec 4 reply (12:11pm),
Photoshop CS4
does, in fact, run reliably on systems with Intel graphics.
Eric purports
to be an Intel employee, but obviously there's no proof of
that.
Regardless, his assertion jibes with with I hear from
colleagues with Intel
graphics chips.
It's not as if Photoshop suddenly fails if you happen to
choose, say,
red from the color swatches. It's not as if Photoshop fails
to export GIFs
on Intel machines. The only thing you're missing -- and this
is true for me
too, even though I don't have Intel equipment -- is
functionality that
relies on OpenGL. One of these features, for example, lets
you rotate the
canvas while you work on a file. I don't mean rotate the
image itself ... I
mean rotate the actual work space without resampling the
image, just as if
you were rotating the piece of paper on which you were
drawing. Granted,
that sounds like a neat feature (I'd like to experiment with
it, myself!),
but it's not a deal-breaker.
As far as I've seen, the Flash CS4 authoring tool doesn't
rely on any
OpenGL-accelerated features.

I already have my existing DVD player set up with the component video cable and you are correct about needing an audio cable. I learned that through a process of elimination when I was setting that up and I have plenty of extra audio cables in my closet, so we're definitely on the same wavelength. My existing DVD player doesn't have the HDMI capability but the component video cable is fine. Now I just have a better understanding of how this works. I believe that my existing DVD player is analog but it's very good and I will glady keep it until it goes.
I was also just fooling with my TV settings. On my "source" list, I had had TV selected as source but I switched it to HDMI, which is what I already connected to my HDTV --- what a difference in sound and picture quality. -
When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

The solution was as follows for me anyway...
Go to your Finder
Choose the Go Menu
Choose Computer
Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
Choose your "Library" Folder
Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
Empty the Trash
Restart from the Apple Menu
When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

Hello, I am interested in buying a new Macbook Pro but want to run the latest Adobe CS package. Which computer do you recommend for best speed and perfromance?
Depending on the software you'll use - I doubt you'll be an expert on After Effects and use Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver like a pro (you may be an exception) - I have a 13" Macbook Pro simply because the 15" lacks the portability of the smaller size - the Retina 15" is alot lighter and if you can afford it - go for it!
I bought the Macbook Pro and replaced the 4GB of RAM with 8GB of RAM and replaced the HDD with an m4 SSD from Crucial. The SSD really makes a difference in app start up speeds, loading times and bootup speeds. The RAM ensures apps operate smoothly and everything is snappy. Since getting an SSD, I would say the performance of Photoshop and Illustrator is vastly improved. I can have both open whilst surfing the web, checking my email and even using Dreamweaver every once in a while. Multitasking is great.
To conclude, depedning on your price range, buying a £999 Macbook Pro and swapping the HDD for an SSD and the 4GB of RAm to 8GB, will ensure better performance than both 15" Models. However, buying a 15" Model and maxing out the specs, would beat the performance of a maxed out 13".
I have a 13" and it runs faster than it was when I first purchased it last year. Photoshop opens in 2/3 seconds and performance is great.
Hope this helps.
P.S. If you have the money, get the 15" Retina. If not, max out the 13" if you still want portability. Otherwise, get the 15" and max that out if you feel performance is poor.
The reason I say Retina, is because the maxed ram and SSD is already installed and saves alot of hassle aswell as the slimmer design and lighter weight. -

I changed my Apple ID but on my iPhone 4S w/ iOS 7.0.4, when I go into settings > iCloud it still shows the old Apple ID. How do I change this? I was going to delete the iCloud account from my phone then add it back with the new Apple ID, but I'm not sure...help!

I have a Windows 7 Pc where Lightroom 5 is on installed.
When I open a photo using " verkenner" I see a good coloured photo.
When I open a photo via Lightroom 5, the photo will be too dark. This gives difficulties during shaping the photograph. Can someone help me to solve this problem?

hello everyone! i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture. my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro). how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?
Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

Hello, I am having issues open very large files I created, one being 1,241,776 KB. I have PS 12.1 with 64 bit version. I am not sure if they issues I am having is because of the PS version I have, and whether or not I have to upgrade?
I think more likely, it's a memory / scratch disk issue. 1.25 gigabytes is a very big image file!!
