Hello i buy a new macbook air white i5 ivy bridge processor and when i play a game the cpu themperature is 88-100c it is normal?
One thing I should add. While "normal", it doesn't make it preferrrable that you should be always running near the maximum capability of the unit. The new 2012 MBA's are outfitted with CPU's that have a maximum running temp of 115 degrees C. (the 2011's were rated at 100 degrees C.)
At, or near this point, the CPU will shut down the system to safeguard from overheating. Right under this point the system's fan will be running at top speed. Any mechanical device, run at or near it's capability will undergo accelerated wear. Just how much in this situation is unknown. as such, I don't use my MBA as a full-time gaming rig. I try and keep it sensible.
The MBA is not really designed for gaming, but it's competent performance sometimes lures us to use it as such.

I have, on order, a 13" MacBook Air (128Gb) and intend using Migration Assistant to transfer data from my 4 year old MacBook 13" (White) on set up.
I have ordered an Apple USB Ethernet adaptor and have today purchased an Ethernet cable.
I will want to transfer;
Mail........Mailboxes, their contents and account settings. In fact the lot except the application itself.
Safari..... Bookmarks, Cookies, Saved Passwords etc. As above
Google Chrome.........same
Address Book
iCal
iTunes
iPhoto
Documents. Excel, Word, Powerpoint & pdf's (a clean install of Office for Mac 2011 will take place on the MBA)
MacBook and applications are currently up to date and I've read about disabling the energy saver to sleep option.
Is it all that simple or am I missing something?
Can Account Information in Mail be migrated?
Will saved links be transferred in Safari (especially that of my ISP's customer area)? You have no idea what navigating around Orange France is like !
Sorry if I sound a little naïve but I'm English, retired and living in France and the nearest Apple Store is a 3 hour drive away so I'm doing it all myself.
Thanks
RichardUse Setup Assistant when your new Mac first starts up. See Using Setup Assistant on Lion (it's a bit more complete).
Unless you choose to omit things, that will set your new Mac up exactly like the old one, except for a few preferences, etc., that may be different for the different hardware.
If your old Mac isn't running Lion, there will be some other differences, too. See Changes in Lion from Snow Leopard. -
Can I buy a new MacBook Air and install Lion 10.7?
I am about to buy a new MacBook Air 13" and want to install Lion 10.7 on it. This is for a particular reason related to some of my apps being fine with Lion but not yet updated for 10.8.
So can I buy a MacBook Air which has 10.8 installed, and then erase te drive and install 10.7.4 from a DVD (which I already have here)?
Thanks. You possibly have an option. If you are wanting to buy a "stock" model, as opposed to a "build to order" model, then you might be able to find a MacBook Air at a retailer, like Best Buy", who may have older stock with Lion installed. I'm not sure how long a retailer might have old stock. I suppose it depends on their policies and turnover. Any that are in stock are elligible for a free Mountain Lion upgrade, such that you would have the ability to run either, at your discretion.
Once I got my new MBA, one ofthe very first things I did was to create a clone backup. That way, I could more easily revert if ever I wanted to. -

I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011. When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.I know what happened. When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box. Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.

just bought a new macbook air, how can i install my iphotos from my mac desktop to the air
BillConnect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

MacBook Air intermittently has issues connecting to websites when wireless shows connected to the internet. The pages show that I am offline, but I can ping Google DNS. Windows PC, iPhone and Android phone have no issue displaying the same web pages. How do I solve this issue?
Go step by step and test.
1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
Restart the computer.
Start up in Safe Mode.

2. Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
3. Deselect Proxies if selected.
System Preference > Network > Advanced > Proxies Tab
Under "Select Protocol", uncheck any box if selected.
Click "OK" then "Apply”. -
Will Apple help to copy over all the settings, apps, programs, files, etc. from an old MacBook Pro 15" on OS X 10.6.8 to a new MacBook Air 15"? Will it work easily and painlessly? Will they help me set it back to factory once everything is copied so that it can be sold or given to someone else? Will they charge for this?

"Purchase a One to One membership at the same time you get your new Mac from an Apple Retail Store, and you won’t have to spend hours transferring all your stuff. Just bring in your old PC, and we’ll do it for you. A Specialist will move all your files — email, contacts, music, photos, documents, calendar, desktop items — and make sure everything is exactly where it should be. One to One costs just $99, and it includes a year’s worth of one-hour, face-to-face training sessions. It’s like getting a head start before you start."
This is really disappointing. Buy a $3,000 computer from them and then buy another one for $1,000+ and all they want to do is screw you over, nickle and dime you and price gouge you on setting it up. -
What package do you recommend with buying a new macbook air?
I am looking to buy a MacBook Air. I'd like a much storage as possible, speed as posible and to edit photos, etc (but don't want to pay for more than I need). Thanks. I am hoping to use my new MacBook Air seamlessly with my iPad2 for pages documents (sinced to the cloud).
1. Opt for the 8 GB memory upgrade. For $100, it will absolutley give the biggest "bang for buck", in terms of performance upgrades. Since you can never upgrade the memory later, it is a necessity to include the option with your purchase.
2. 256 GB is a reasonable amount of SSD, provided that your iTunes library is under around 32 GB, and you don't plan on storing too much in the way of movies or other space intensive files. It is also enough if you possibly plan to run a simple Windows installation with a VM product like Fusion or Parallels. Consider the larger 500 GB selection if you think you will be storing large amounts of data. Only yop will know what you will need. I say estimate your need, then double it. I have about 175 GB on my system right now, and use Windows and have a modest iTunes libary, with a few movies. I opted for the 500 GB SSD, so I have some room.
3. Upgrade the processor only if you will be needing the device for light gaming, video editing, or any other processor or graphics intensive work. The base processor is pretty good, and the upgrade is only a modest increase in performace, so this will be the least likely upgrade to consider if money is tight. -
Buying a new MAcBook Pro - How do i move files and office for Mac
I am buying a new MacBook Pro and have a license for my office for Mac 2008. Can I re-install into the new computer or do i need to buy a new license? Also, how do i move all my itunes, photos, and files from one to the other!
Use TDM for transferring files, drag libraries into folders (iTunes Library into iTunes Folder for example). The Firewire cable will need to be a 6 to 9 pin, or an adapter.
If you're giving up the pB, De-authorize it for iTunes.
Don't do applications between G4 and Intel machines, better to reinstall.
Uninstall Office and use your key on the new Machine. Run Office update.
Connecting Your PowerBook to Another Computer Using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
If you want to transfer files between your PowerBook and another FireWire-equipped
Macintosh computer, or you have a problem that prevents your computer from starting
up, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to connect to another computer. When you
start up your computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode, the other computer can access
your PowerBook as if it were an external hard disk.
Note: When using FireWire Target Disk Mode, it’s a good idea to connect your power
adapter to the PowerBook.
To connect your PowerBook to another computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode:
1 Make sure that your PowerBook is shut down.
2 Use a FireWire cable to connect your PowerBook to another FireWire-equipped
computer.
3 Start up your PowerBook and immediately hold down the T key.
Your PowerBook display shows the FireWire logo. The other computer’s display shows
the PowerBook internal hard disk icon. You can now drag and drop files between the
computers.
4 When you finish transferring files, drag the PowerBook hard disk icon to the Trash.
5 Press the power button (®) on the PowerBook to shut it down, and then disconnect
the FireWire cable.

New MacBook Air, iTunes was working at first, now will not play anything
Brand new Macbook Air and after an unnecessarily complicated setup I finally had music playing the first day. Now it will not play music or podcasts. Cleared cache, restarted, up to date. I press play it changes to the pause icon but no time movement, no sound. I went through all the steps to fix the problem of not downloading any of my purchased music, but now that I have it downloaded it won't play, when it had originally.
Downloaded a podcast, won't play. Yay, back on the Apple forum once again.
The original selling point of Apple was simplicity and reliability, now it is more convoluted, un-intuitive and unreliable than any windows product out there and I never thought I'd say that.you're not dimwitted. I wonder sometimes! lol
just checking on something first. when you try to
play a song in itunes, does that little
diamond-shaped thingy stay firmly stuck to the left? Yes
if so, next let's explicitly doublecheck your precise
itunes version number. in itunes, go "help > about
itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up
from the bottom of the screen. (for example, mine
says "itunes 6.0.5.20") 6.0.5.2
if you've got an itunes version 5.0.0.35, 5.0.1.4,
6.0.0.18 or 6.0.1.3
... first let's check on this possibility:
iTunes for Windows: Audio files do not play in
iTunes 5 or 6
if you've got an itunes version 6.0.2.23 or
higher, or the compatibility settings thing wasn't a
factor for you
... then first we'll try a careful standalone QT 7.1
reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the
install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
play audio properly again? Yes, this did the trick!
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone
reinstall, let us know what it says. include error
message numbers if you're getting any.)
b noir I thank you so very much for being willing to share your knowledge and lending a helping hand! I am indebted to you! -
I tried to watch an episode of a TV series from my iTunes library and while it looked fine on the Mac screen and sounded fine on the TV screen, on the TV screen the area of the screen where the TV picture should have been was just a chequerboard. I have recently installed a VPN and Air Parrot - might this be affecting things? I have watched earlier episodes of the TV series with no problems and I tried an episode from another TV series with the same result.
Any advice gratefully received! thanks. You sure about this? https://www.apple.com/why-mac/better-support/

I recently bought a new 13 inch Macbook air and wireless internet is really slow and disconnect again and again. However I hav another windows laptop at the same place and that never disconects or looses signals? wireless on this mac is too slow that I cannot even use to make a skype call. I am new mac user and getting a bit disappointed because of this bad performance.I googled about this issue and found that lot of people are having the same issue with macbook air. I switched off the bluetooth adaptor but still no progress. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
I am experiencing something similar with my MBA 13"/i5/256GB.
To take it one step further, I started up a Terminal session and ran a ping against my wireless router. I see the same pattern repeated over and over: I get about 5 or 6 pings through, then 4 or 5 misses, then it reconnects again. When it reconnects, the first ping or two have times in thousands of milliseconds, where normal is maybe sub-millisecond to 4ms for the remaining few seconds.
I have other wireless devices, including iPhone, iPad, and an older MacBook - all work fine. The MBA is the only Lion device. -
I have a MacBook Air OS X, Version 10.7.5 and when open my Apple Calendar, I get the alert "encountered HTTP error 404. Make sure the URL is correct. Anyone? The error message comes very often but my calendar DOES still work.
I went to System Preferences; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; Under my mail address I unchecked "Calendars and Reminders" then rebooted the system. When it restarted I went back and checked "Calendars and Reminders" again and now it is working again.
