With the phone connected to the PC via the USB cable, can you see the phone when you do Start - Devices and Printers on your PC ?
If you can - right click on the phone icon it is showing and go for "troubleshooting"

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything incorrectly from what I can see. Have you tried restarting the iPad and then see if you can backup?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Maybe you'd have to contact an Apple Store or the carrier who handles
the phone, about how to reset it. There should be some helpful motions
and efforts to attempt to re-connect the vehicle to the iPhone, there.
Perhaps there's a firmware update for the vehicle at an authorized agency...
Looking ahead, when looking into newer 2015+ models, test with a phone.

It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:

From a client I type in my browser: http://dc1/certsrv.
Then I get to a screen where I can choose among these certificates: User, Basic EFS, Administrator....and a few more ; but I don't see "Computer certificate" in that list.
Does anyone know how could I get a Computer certificate from that web site ?.
As far as I know, one can add entries to that list, but not sure how to do it.

Computer certificate enrollment in web pages is deprecated since Windows Vista. Instead, you should use Certificates MMC snap-in focused on Local Machine context to enroll computer certificates.

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. The Sidebar is when you will see the iPod under Devices. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar

I cannot get my computer out of target disk mode

I had my G4 power Mac (10.4.11) connected in Target Disk Mode to my new Mac Mini (10.7.3) to migrate the file from it to the new Mini. Now I cannot get the old machine to go back into startup disk mode, it is staying in Targer Disk Mode. Any ideas how to bring my G4 back to life?

So after that, while following directions on the Apple support page, I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the Apple Mobile Device USB software. It uninstalled fine, but when I tried to put it back, it just kept telling me that the device could not be successfully installed. How do I get it to install?
