As you are using Snow Leopard, read "Resetting your original administrator account password" > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274 You have to start from the Mac OS X Snow Leopard disc, so you need an external optical drive or another Mac or PC to use Remote Install Mac OS X

It does sound like you downloaded the Windows version. OS X doesn't know what to do with file and just opens it up in Text. You can download the Mac version directly from C/NET - Download.com:

Try a Safe Mode boot ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer. See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (if you don't already have it -- OS 10.6), but check system requirements first:

I also recently purchase Apple TV because the presenter said that she was using this device with the Air and the iPad.

If you are trying to connect the iPad to the Macbook, then try this app: http://www.reflectionapp.com/ The iPad also supports connecting straight to the Apple TV, so you could try it that way too.

I have a Macbook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari for browser.
I'm looking for users of the same who have used or tried to use Facebook video chat and would love to know if it was a good experience or were there any problems and if so what were the nature of those problems?

No Sir, I am not having problems with FaceBook and this Granny isn't taking a survey or poll. I gave all the information I did so that I could get the proper "help". I am not planning to upgrade to Lion and thus cannot have iCloud. I have moved my mail from MobileMe to iCloud but I am not sure that I will be able to use my iChat once MobileMe ends on June 30 and I am looking at alternatives to staying in touch wit my children and grandchildren. I am limited in knowledge but I do know that some apps from FaceBook arent's so good. I want to be sure that I don't download anything that would be incompatible with my Mac and my version/browser, etc. Just trying to avoid problems and keep my Mac in good working order. As time goes by (months or years), keep your eyes on how long Microsoft continues to support Office 2011 for Mac. Eventually you should consider Office 365 or Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

Try a Safe Boot to clear the dyld_shared_cache (dynamic loader cache)
SafeBoot http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Safe Boot, which automatically rebuilds this cache (among other things).
