Hello, I have an Apple wireless keyboard linked to an Ipad Air. The M J U and 7 keys are not working, Is there a solution, Thanks

Hi, Has anyone else encountered this problem. I see mucg discussion of this problem with MacBooks, but none relating to use with an IPad.
Thanks

I am having this problem as well.  I hate to just wait and hope Apple will fix the problem, but I'm not sure what else can be done. We can't be the only people experienceing this, can we?

  • Caps lock, delete and tab key are not working on my Apple wireless keyboard

I see that a lot of users have had this same issue. I have tried all the "tricks" suggested, but keys are still not functioning.

    Try a smc reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Try a pram reset: power off, power back on holding the keys: option, command, P ,R (no commas) press them before the start chime, and hold them till you hear the start chime 32 times, then release and reboot.
If still no joy try a safe boot, power off, power back on holding the shift key. Continue to hold the shift key till you see the progress bar, let it finish booting, and see if t works.
    The code thing is wierd.
If none of these help your issue, bring it to an APPLE store or a AASP and have it checked out it have a bad top, or logic board/HD.

How did you try to use Acitivty Monitor?
Open Activity Monitor, choose "All processes" from the list, and sort processes by CPU usage. More likely than not, there will be task using up good bit of CPU.
You could also try resetting SMC:

  • I have an Apple wireless keyboard that I use with my iPad 2.  Does it work with the iPad 3?

I have an Apple wireless keyboard synced to my iPad 2.  Can sync this same keyboard be used with my iPad 3?  If so, what are the syncing instructions?

Assuming you are talking about the aluminium keyboard the answer is yes.  I had some problems trying to get my iPad 2/keyboard combo to 'forget' their connection but one complete the keyboard connected to my iPad 3.

  • Hello, how much did you pay when some parts of the keyboard keys are not working properly due to accidental spilt of tea?

I accidentally spilt a tea on the keyboard of my Macbook Air 11'. I managed to wipe the keyboard and saved my laptop. However, I noticed that the Spacebar, Shift and Command keys are not working as it should be. It's like something's stuck inside that makes these keys hard to press as usual. I refered this problem to Amsys, Berwick St London, as the reservations in Apple Stores are full. Do you have any idea how much is the cost for diagnosis and repair if ever?
    Please help.

if you spilled a good bit of tea, its a serious problem, yes.
it got inside, and will corode, and bad things will begin to happen.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • I have 2 Apple Wireless Keyboards (old style, not flat) that will not pair.

    Hello.
I own a MBpro, A Mac Pro, and a Mac Mini. I have 2 Apple Wireless Keyboards (the old style with the extended keyboard and transparent case with white keys). Neither keyboard will pair on any system.
The Macs see one of the keyboards just fine but refuse to pair it when I type the 8-digit pass phrase and the return key. Also no luck if I try without a passkey. The other keyboard cannot even be detected by any system.
Is this keyboard design just plain defective? This is the third one (there's also one at work) that refuses to pair. If I have to purchase another one, then this one will end up smashed on Apple's showroom floor. I've about had it with these things.
    Please help if you can.

    Hello Steve:
I have not had a similar problem so I am fishing a bit. I think the problem is rooted in what I thought in my previous post.
    Now, how to fix it?
    Try this:
Go to system preferences>bluetooth. Delete any KB entries there. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist). Be sure that on and discoverable are checked in the BT preference pane. Restart your computer.
Hopefully, whatever KB you have turned on will be "discovered."

  • TA24778 issues with pairing an Apple wireless keyboard by bluetooth with iPad Mini

Does anyone have any tips about successfully pairing an Ipad Mini with an Apple Wireless keyboard, please? Apart from changing the batteries on the keyboard, I have had a lot of difficulty in doing it successfully.

Which Apple wireless keyboard are you using?
See this Apple doc -> iOS: Apple Wireless Keyboard compatibility
The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
If you're using a compatible keyboard, does it pair with your Mac? Try turning it off and then back on and then pairing it again.

I cleaned my wireless keyboard with a cloth that had a few sprays of windex on it, wiping back and forth and up and down on the keys. Now, various keys are not working. Is there a way to "reset" the keyboard to restore the keys?

    Thanks for replying (thorvsphoenix)
The windex was sprayed on the cloth, not the keyboard. And only one or two pumps on a hand towel. No liquid seeped between the keys the towel was barely damp. You are saying the ammonia gas created the problem?
I think It was more an issue of multiple keys being depressed at the same time that screwed up the configuration. That is why I need to "reboot" the keyboard.

  • Keyboard keys are not working

Im on mac OS X 10.6.8 several keyboard keys are not working. For instance the at symbol is not working or question mark and random other punctuation keys. The problem started after running some code from terminal to trun off mouse acceleration and then installing a plug-in to control more accurately the mouse funtions. Ive since uninstalled the plug in and disabled the adjustment in terminal. Ive checked all the normal keyboard funcions to make sure settings were not funky. When I log out and log in as a differnt user the problem with the keyboard is fixed. Someone please help

    Hello lindzthecreator,
I suggest this part of the article named One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1381
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working.  If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly.  Use Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

I recently bought some new albums and can't play them on my ipod

I just encountered the same problem on my 2 month old MBPro.  I found a work around by changing USB ports.  As for the actual cause or the reason why that worked, I dont know.  The USB port I was using works fine with my phone or other USB devices.

  • Few keyboard keys are not working

    I am Using Mac 10.5.8
Yesterday, when i made my laptop shut down, all the keys were working perefectly.
Even when i started it today, for few minutes ie 5 minutes all the keys were working fine, But then i don't what happned suddenly.
Pointer starts blinking.. Down arrow key was getting pressed itself.
Later i restarted it, and found Right click on trackpad was not working, and all arrow keys along with right Command key are not working.
Then i restarted it again, command keys started working, and up ,left & right arrow keys started working.
I verified my disk, then i found right click started working.
The only key was not working down arrow key.
But after 30 minutes Right key stopped working and Right command key too
Suggest me what should i do now, it seems more like some software problem in comparison to Keyboard hardware problem.

Hey i guess that's not a good idea, Could you please let me know something about some hardware check/keyboard viewer.
    Anything like that ?

  • I have an Apple Wireless Keyboard trying to pair with two computers

    I have two Mac Mini's:
    Mac Mini #1
    Core 2 Duo T7200
    2GB DDR2 5300
    120GB Sandisk SSD
    OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
    Apple Magic Trackpad
    Mac Mini #2
    Core 2 Duo T5600
    2GB DDR2 5300
    120GB OCZ SSD
    OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Generic USB Keyboard (Mac Compatible)
    Apple Magic Mouse
Both are running OS X LION.  When I turn off the Mini with the wireless keyboard, the other Mini tries to pair up with the keyboard, each and every time.  I've deleted the com.apple.bluetooth.plist and com.apple.bluetooth.lockfile and reset PRAM on both machines.
I've also removed the batteries from the keyboard and held the power button down for 30 seconds in hope of clearing any lingering juice.
As soon as the computers are powered back up, it tries to pair with the other computer first, rather than the one it paied with.  This keyboard is NOT listed as a paired device on Mini #2; never has.
    Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm afraid Apple's initial wireless keyboard simply isn't compatible with iOS. Only the newer flat-keyed models are.
