Do you have iCloud enabled?
On your Mac go to iCloud.com.
Sign In then click Find My iPhone  (finds all devices, not just an iPhone).
Otherwise report the theft to local authorities.   Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To see if you have iCloud, open http://www.icloud.com and log in with your Apple ID. If you can access to iCloud, you have iCloud. If you get an error message or you can't access, you don't have iCloud. This only works if you only have the Mac (not an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iCloud).
Apart from that, "Find my Mac" must be turned on in the Mac in order to track it, so if it wasn't turned on, you won't be able to track it. If it was turned on, the computer must be connected to the Internet to be tracked.
If you can access to iCloud through http://www.icloud.com, choose "Find my iPhone" and look at the Devices list. If your MacBook Pro shows up, "Find my Mac" is turned on, so see if you can track it and tell to the police that it's possible to track your MacBook Pro

We had a MacBook Pro stolen from our home when we were out of town and I am pretty sure we never activated the LoJack type of function on it not sure if its called lojack but you get what I am saying is there any way we can activate such  hardware/app now so we can possibly recover our laptop? Any one who can point us in the right direction that would be great and we would be very grateful. Thanks So Much

Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party.  You did file a police report right?

  • I have had my macbook pro for 3 days, and it will not charge.  I tried several differnt outlets, tried cleaning and wiggling the magnet charger, still nothing.  Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?

You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your MBP.  Personally, I would not waste my time "troubleshooting" if the normal solutions do not work.
Return the MBP for one that works before your 14 days are up and/or call AppleCare ASAP!!!
    Good luck!

I have had my MacBook Pro for almost 4 years now. How do i perminantly delete deleted files?

Your situation is not good, then. You will need to erase your hard drive and start anew. Boot from your installer DVD for the OS X version you have installed on it.
I hope you have backups because it's not likely you can backup at this point.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?

Sorry for asking this Question - I know that there have been threads in the past with similar Question but still I'm kinda confused.
-MacBook Pro OS X has been stolen from me
-I have enabled my Apple ID in it
-I called Apple Support and requested to 'Erase' the data
Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?
-Can the thief easily reformat its hard drive just like on Windows and install a cracked Operating System?
    Thank you Guys.

The answer is, Yes. If you enabled Find My Mac, then you could track it or erase it using your iCloud.com webpage and clicking on Find My Phone after signing in.
What To Do If Your Mac Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Mac before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi. What you cannot do is track your computer using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your computer for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty. Be sure to report the loss or theft to the local police. Have the serial number handy. If your Mac is found it cannot be returned to you if you don’t have the serial number and proof of purchase.
Find My Mac can be used from Find My Phone at iCloud.com and via Find My Phone on your iDevice.

I have a new MacBook Pro and every time I open Safari it locks up???

Okay, then you have made a whole bunch of trouble for yourself. First, download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
and then you can manually remove as many bits of PSE as you can find. Not only the application itself, but also in hard drive>library>application support>adobe. And go to your username>library>preferences and delete everything there pertaining to PSE. That library is hidden. To see it, click the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the Option key and it will appear below the little house for your user account.
Then go here to download the installer and install it from scratch. You can never move an installed copy of PSE (except for the app store version):
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 9, 8, 7

  • I have a new MacBook Pro, and when I try to print, the laptop says, "stopped filter failed 1 page". What can I do?

I have a new MacBook Pro, and when I try to print, the laptop says, "stopped filter failed 1 page". What can I do?

    Okay, regarding this problem:
I'm trying to print to an Advent AW10 printer from an Imac running Yosemite 10.10.1 and it's been driving me nuts for the last two months...
I got on to Advent yesterday and recieved this instruction from their support team this morning and it worked and I'm now printing away merrily:
    Please follow below steps:
In Spotlight search window type Terminal and then press Enter.
This should bring up the terminal window/program.
    In the Terminal type:
sudo sh -c 'echo "Sandboxing Relaxed" >> /etc/cups/cups-files.conf' then press Enter.
It will ask for your password. Please enter system password.(You will not see password entering)
    After that type following:
sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd then press Enter.
    Try Printing.
I don't think this is specific to Advent and is rather simply an 'opening up' of something blocking the 'printer channels' (layman's terms obviously)
    Hope this helps people out!

  • Every time I close my Macbook Air and then go to use it again. My wifi is not connected, I have to go to the network diagnostics and basically find my network and reconnect every time. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

worksafe's link with the KeyChain fix is good.
This usually happens when KeyChain has two entries for the same WiFi network.
If repair did not work you can follow the manual steps:
    Disconnect WiFi
Open KeyChain from Applications / Utilities and find your WiFi network entry(ies) and delete all of them.
    Connect to your WiFi again.

  • Just had my MacBook Pro stolen and both back up drives!!!

Today the worse thing that could ever happen to a photographer did. My camera bag which had my 15" MacBook Pro, 2 back up drives (my only ones with all my work/photographs) passwords, etc was stolen out of my car. If anyone has experienced such a loss I could use some guidelines as to remedy this situation. I have over 50 password to various sites that gratefully I printed out.
What are the chances that these passwords could be recovered. When the computer shut down I hadn't logged out so there is access to all my files on the
    laptop.
I no longer have 90% of images. This is a serious loss as anyone can imagine. I have my iPhone and wondering if I can salvage some images I had in my pictures folder that I transferred over to the iPhone as well as my iTunes.
    much appreciate any leads..  ~A~

Sorry to hear about the situacion.
Certainly report the theft to the local authorities.
As far as the passwords, anyone who has physical access to your computer has access to your data (obviously).  This includes passwords stored on the computer (although these are relatively hard to access unless you know what you are doing).
As you know the passwords to the various sites, better safe than even more sorry, go change all your passwords ASAP.  If you keep credit card information on your computer, notify your bank / credit card company about the situacion.
Images that are stored in your camera roll can be imported back to any Mac or Windows system just by plugging in the phone and launching an image capture application (iPhoto or Aperture).  Images that were synced from the computer to the phone will need to be extracted using a program like this: http://mobilesyncbrowser.com/
For the future, consider not keeping all your backups in one place, using a remote backup solution as well as local backups (http://www.qdea.com, http://www.idrive.com, http://www.carbonite.com), and if you are always doing photo shoots in public places with your computer present, perhaps install some tracking software (http://store.lojackforlaptops.com).
    Best of luck to you.

  • I have had my macbook pro for 4 months and it is now running extremely slowly

please can somebody help me, i don't know anything technical about computers. my 15'' macbook pro has overnight started to run extremely slowly, it is now becoming impossible to use my macbook and it is only 4 months old, i have no idea why and the only things i have put on it are the software updates. my macbook came with snow leopard but i got a free copy of lion to put on the very next day and i've never had any problems. i'm desperate to get this sorted as i'm disabled and it is a lifeline to me. thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. lynda.

i took my macbook to the apple store i bought it from, they checked the memory and hard drive and everything was ok, after a re install of the operating system i still had a problem so apple advised me to back up everything to an external drive the erase everything then reinstall which i've done and am now up and running again, it's like i have a new macbook

  • My macbook got stolen from my apartment, any way to track it down?

I left my macbook on my desk and it was in sleep mode, the screen was shut and when i came back from my friend's house it was stolen, somebody walked into my apartment and just took my laptop. Luckily i setted up a password so that everytime they open up the screen it requires a password. Is there any way to track down my macbook pro? it's the early 2011 kind. I don't remember setting up track my mac on the icloud, is there any other way of tracking it down? Like serial number or something? I already reported it to the police but im not sure if they're gonna do anything about it. All my school work is on my macbook and I just feel so hopeless and I just want it back.

Reporting it to the police is really the only thing that your can do. A smart thief will be able to bypass your password so I suggest that you change all of your passwords on all of you accounts - starting with your Apple ID, bank accounts, credit card companies, etc.
If you'd had the iCloud "Find My Mac" enabled you might have been able to track it down if the thied went online - but even then, a smart thief could bypass that.
Were you insured? A replacement is about the best you can hope for...
    Sorry,
    Clinton
