XP support was dropped, you need drivers from 10.6 or older DVDs

Advanced Network: Proxy Settings, I uncheck "Auto Proxy detection" and make sure you have the interface you use selected and none others.
"Go into System Preferences - Network - Advanced - Proxies Uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery", click OK, Apply"
After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.
odiggy's comment and tried restarting Boot Camp Assistant. That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started. Windows support software is now downloading... if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall) -

When I try to install windows 7 on my mac, it always freezes at "Completing Installation". Does anyone know a fix for this?
Got it!
After posting my question I noticed the "More like this" category and the second discussion was a hit.

It was a display driver. All I needed to do was to boot from the CD again and following the directions in the post.
Worked like a charm. -
My cousin has an iMac Mid 2010 (11,3) and installed Windows 7 (32bit) on a Bootcamp Partition (NTFS) with 100GB.
But after trying to boot with windows, the boot stops and Mac OS comes to front......
Is it possible to install Windows 7 with bootcamp 3 on an iMac?
Apple says only XP or Vista 32 bit is possible....
But here I read Windows 7 also.... ?!

Is it possible to install windows 8 on my mac with booth camp???
I would install on my macbook pro windows 8. Is it possible with booth camp?? if not, what is a good software (free)??
Sorry for my bad English...That's up to you. I personally think Windows 7 is vastly superior to 8, but if you really want it, you'll have to wait. Keep in mind, it took Apple 3 months to release compatible drivers for Windows 7.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to start a bootcamp installation of Windows 7 though an external monitor using HDMI. Is there anyway to have the installation screen show up on the external monitor? I get stuck at the beginning of the installation due to not being able to use my laptop's primary screen.
Thanks for the help!Kapil Choubisa wrote:

Unless you have a 2010 Mini Server model, your Mini has a built-in Optical drive (Mac mini (Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications).
Can you read the Windows Installer media when booted on OSX? Your DVD media may be corrupt.
If your Optical Drive is functional AND the Windows DVD is readable in OSX Finder, then your installer should work. You will need a USB2 for BC drivers as well. -

Did you use Boot Camp Assistant?
You should be able to hold down the option key whilst booting in order to select which OS you want to boot into.

Unable to install Windows on an 2010 iMac with home-made Fusion Drive
Hi there,
I've been very happy using mi iMac eversince I installed the SSD alongside the HDD. Only recently I tried to install Windows 7 but it doesn't seem to work. The installer runs, it seems as though Windows is installing but it doesn't ever seem to be able to boot. I've tried countless times. Everytime it boots to Windows it shows nothing but just a black screen with the cursor blinking at the top left corner.
Now, when I home-made the Fusion Drive the Mac OS was only 10.8.2 or older and I know that with 10.8.3 Apple has made improvements towards boot camp and especially the 3TB HDDs. I wonder if this could have anything to do.
Anyway, please enlighten me as to what is it that I need to do to make it work. I've been reading something about the position in which the Windows partition resides compared to GUID and EFI but honestly I have just the tiniest idea about all that. Just for the record, the following is what shows in the Terminal after diskutil list command:
diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *256.1 GB disk0
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_CoreStorage 255.7 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk0s3
/dev/disk1
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk1
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1
2: Apple_CoreStorage 942.3 GB disk1s2
3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 650.0 MB disk1s3
4: Microsoft Basic Data 57.0 GB disk1s4
/dev/disk2
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: Apple_HFS Fusion Drive *1.2 TB disk2
Hope you can help..!Hello again, by reading a couple of posts I learnt the steps and so, using an external OS I repartitioned the two internal drives making sure the Windows partition wasn't part of the Fusion Drive. I was very excited as I was sure it would work and went ahead and started the Win7 installation even before the MacOS was restored into the iMac.
No good news though. The installer run as expected however, when the time came for the iMac to boot from the newly installed Windows7, all I saw was a blank screen and a blinking dash at the top left corner of the screen.
Lastly, this morning I woke up to see that my old system was fully restored from Time Machine external back up. I also leart that using the Boot Camp Assistant I could remove the Windows partition that I created on Terminal from the external OS, which was surprising, I honestly thought that that partitioning arrangement would be off-limits for the Boot Camp Assistant.
Still, I haven't been succesfull installing Windows back to my Mac, can anybody help? -
How to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a DVD
has anyone found a workaround to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a retail DVD?
Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
Thanks everyone.

i have windows 8 DVD and i would like to have a clear instructions on how to install windows 8. I dont understand the need for USBWelcome to the Apple Support Communities
You need a USB drive to install the Windows support software. It contains all the drivers that your MacBook Pro needs, and you will have to install them after finishing the Windows installation. If you don't install them, a lot of things won't work: the wireless card, the sound card, the brightness, the trackpad gestures... Apart from that, you don't need it for anything else.
Apple has released the official steps to install Windows 8 on a Mac, so if you want, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf -
How to install Windows 8 on Macbook pro with retina display ?
Hi - How to install Windows 8 on Macbook pro with retina display ?
I am pretty new to the apple world. Tried doing it through bootcamp but did not success.
I am not interested to install it through Parallels or Fusion. Plz guide.
Thanks !OK, use Windows 8 in Bootcamp. Be aware that there are no Bootcamp drivers for Windows 8 yet. So you may experiance not only delays but display problems, freezing, crashes and other problems.
Here is the Bootcamp forum. Make sure you read all the posts from people experiencing Windows 8 problems with Bootcamp. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp -

How to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch
how to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch
There's not much sense in purchasing a Mac to run only Windows on it. Keep in mind that drivers for Windows are a secondary concern for Apple. While Windows will typicall run fine, things like power managment are not optimized under Windows (you'll get less time on battery while running Windows). You will also not be able to install firmware updates. Firmware updates might be necessary whether you run Windows or OS X as they are updates to the code in your hardware and are not OS-specific. You must be running OS X in order to install a firmware update. You can do this even if you boot off of an external drive with OS X installed on it. At the very least, you should keep just a small partition for OS X on your internal drive.

I have an intel based mac with 10.6.8 mac os x. How to install windows 7 using usb as the bootcamp doesnot have the option of creating a bootable usb. please help
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these computers:
- MacBook Pro with Retina display.
- Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
- MacBook Air.
- iMac (Late 2012).
If you don't have any of these Macs, you can't install Windows through a USB drive. Instead, buy Windows on a DVD. Follow Apple's steps > http://support.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1519/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6. pdf
