These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

Dear Sir, Recently I noticed that my iphone 3GS is responding very slowly, I thought it got hanged due to the high memory usage so I restarted it but after the restart it showed me iTunes logo & a USB cable. Though the SIM card inside the phone doesn’t have any lock but the message says: No SIM card installed insert a valid SIM with no pin lock to activate iphone. When I connected it to itunes I get this message: iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes, there was a passcode on my iphone which can not be unlocked now as after sliding the arrow the only options I get are: emergency calls & info’s as IMEI: 01 215500 xxxxxx x & ICCID: Unknown. I was suggested to delete the complete programme & get the iTunes reinstalled but I don’t want to lose my data. Can you help me to get my data back? Pls. reply ASAP. Thanks & regards.
ICCID unknown is a critical failure, usually caused by hacking or jailbreaking the phone. It can not be fixed. The phone will need to be replaced.

I have recently upgraded from the iPhone 3g to an iPhone 4, and I was going to give my 3g to a friend, but it comes up with the message as above, whenever the phone is turned on...

My carrier (virgin) say that they have unlocked the phone from optus.
How do I fix this?

AnushkaVirgin use the Optus network here in Australia - which is why, the 3G phones showed you connected to the Optus network, and not to the Virgin network...They don't have their own network, they piggyback on Optus - which is why it would show that it is locked to Optus!
They also said they would unlock my iPhone 4 - which has been done! So there's obviously something wrong with the phone... -

Hi, I'm new in the forum.
I've just bought a new factory unlocked Iphone 4 from a top rated seller in USA, came back to my country, inserted my Sim in the Iphone, and got the message:
"No Sim" "Insert valid sim with no pin lock to activate Iphone"
This Sim I was using in my old Iphone and actually in a Blackberry Storm.
After the message I put it back again in the BB, and it works fine.
But in the Iphone I get always this message.
One thing: My SIM is a regular one, and I had to use a tempalte available in the net to cut it into a micro SIM.
In the BB it keeps on working.
Any idea?

LuisI answer your question: I buy a lot of things from ebay, and I just looked for "an original factory unlocked" one, assuming their are original, just that.
If I had known I could have bought it CHEAPER directly in Apple, I would have never done it in ebay! (I was told in my country that if you buy in the web, normally you get a discount, sound logic to me.
On the other hand I saw that this seller sold over 1000 Iphones and I trusted that's all.
I'm not dealing with phones, I sell art.
Anyway I still trust what is written there, that they are factory unlocked, and I'll try what you say tomorrow with my carrier: I'll buy a micro sd, and if it still doesn't work, I'll write this seller to see what's going on

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

Updated my iphone 3gs, lost my music and apps, they are backed up on my computer but i cannot move them over to my phone, tried to sync but not working, please help
well first make sure that when you click on the name of your iphone on the left hand side of itunes that you go to the app and music tab and check mark the sync apps and sync music. then try clicking apply in the bottom right hand corner. then if not try doing it again after going to prefrences in the top menu and going to devices tab and click reset sync history if that doesnt work with music try and drop and drag to the name of your iphone, lastly if that doesnt work you can try restoring from a backup from before you updated. it will keep the new software but put everything that was on your phone when you created the backup back onto your phone.

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice, It's in recovery mode. You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead. At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios. -

IPhone 3GS to the new update ios5 and it has downloaded and its now stuck on the Backing up Iphone bit and its been there since 3:00pm today and still wont go away, I have stopped it once due to thinking the computer had frozen and restarted it and its gone and done the same and now i am going to leave it to go though the night to see if it will be done in the morning, Please please you know how to make this ****ing thing work TELL ME ! lolare you able to see the apps on the home screen? edit the hosts file on your computer and remove any lines that contain gs.apple.com. Disable your antivirus and firewall.
