Hello, is Flash the right programme for a simple interactive game with buttons and small animations?

Hello,
I could really use some advice with a new project I am undertaking,
I am looking to design a step-by-step game where users will be required to click on my artwork at each stage to get the next one. I would like different animated consequences to occur according to which button option is chosen at each stage. Eventually I would like for it to be a website that anybody can enter. I was wondering which programme would be ideal to use, I have access to Adobe Flash, Fireworks and Dreamweaver, but currently I only have a very basic grasp of them. This would be a long-term project I will be working on, so I am prepared to learn the appropriate programme, but if you could help me with which one that would be and any tips, I would be really grateful.
Thanks very much,
Hugo

    Here I mentioned that you should use a graphics editor such as "Firefox" when I meant to say Fireworks.  Fireworks is NOT an interactivity program even though it might be able to do simple rollover buttons.  Please use Flash for that.  It will provide greater control for you as you will begin to see once you invest in a Flash book.  And in Flash a game is not really simple if it is interactive.  The part that makes it interactive is ActionScript and that is where you should focus your energies.  There are even books dedicated to teaching game programming in Flash.

  • Is Logic the right programme for me?

    Hi.
    Im seriously considering building my own home recording system. I just want to start simple with a programme and suitable microphones to capture voice, guitar and midi keyboard.
    Just wanted some advice on Logic and if its the right programme for me? Would I get the hang of it easy and what microphone would you suggest?
    I want to adapt my acoustic guitar playing and singing to an electronic set up which I hope to create with the recording program and use in a live setting. Would Logic be suitable for this also?
    Sorry for all the question, im pretty new to the self recording process.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Marc.

    Thanks for this. Very good advice. Should have mentioned that I have used Garage Band extensively for recording song ideas into the in built mic but nothing much more.
    This doesn't count.
    Seriously, FN's comment regarding Logic vs whatever being the least of your worries is exactly correct.
    To get decent sound you are going to be looking at some hardware expenditure.
    An "audio interface".
    Your MBP's built-in audio will give you only fair sound and you will end up spending money on a mic/inst preamp that you can plug into the Mac's 3.5mm line-in.
    You're better off purchasing an external audio interface, this will have mic/instrument inputs and can interface to the MBP via Firewire or USB. (Firewire is better imho)
    Personally not fond of USB mics so I would recommend a standard condenser mic and cable. There are some decent models in the $100 range that sound good for both voice and acoustic guitar. The Audio-Technica AT2020 comes to mind.
    There are a number of small inexpensive MIDI keyboard controllers that can do the job.
    Point is, this hardware will work with any MIDI/Audio sequencer so before purchasing Logic I would take care of the hardware investment and learn the ropes using Garageband.
    GB is very capable, it's built on a subset of Logic. Six months ago I used Garageband to cut a demo for an ad company, they liked it enough that all I needed to make were a few tweaks and add the voice over (all in Garageband 4.1.2) and they purchased it for both radio/TV broadcast.
    A good thing to remember is more is not necessarily better, knowing how to use whatever you have will always produce better results. Good music, artistry..etc is seldom, if ever about the equipment/software.
    Get the hardware stuff happening with GB, then make the jump.

  • Is Flash the Right Program For This?

    I have an animation of a product that rotates, then some parts fade to show internal gears turning, then the whole thing rotates back to the starting position. I have that animation as individual frames, and .mp4 (and .avi). I need to add call-outs that appear at certain parts of the animation to explain what is happening with the product, and also to have the animation pause at those parts, while my client explains certain things. He then needs to be able to press a play button to start the animation again. This needs to happen several times during the presentation.
    He will be presenting using a Macbook Air, and will not be leaving the presentation behind.
    What Adobe product is the correct one to use?Is Flash the right solution?
    I was originally planning on adding the call-outs in AE, but when he asked to add the pauses, and "Play" button I wasn't sure what was best anymore. The animation is rendered in HD, and the final output needs to be HD as well.

    you could do that all with flash.
    you might be able to do it with premiere, too but i'm not a premiere expert,

  • Is Flash the right program for this animation...?

    Hi All,
    Completely new to Flash, so thanks in advance for any advice.
    I have to make a short animation from the point of view of travelling along a road, signs and words coming from the horizon line and passing by... also objects coming from far away and then moving 'through' them.   It is graphic based - text and line art - rather than photorealist.
    Is this the sort of thing I can do in Flash or is it a combo of something else and After Effects?
    Any pointers would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    G.

    Thanks - great news...
    Having re-read my post, just to be clear the POV I mean is travelling 'into' the screen, rather than travelling across the screen [left to right for example].  I can do left to right in Powerpoint, but it is too tedious to use to give the illusion of travelling toward the horizon....
    I want Flash to be the answer!
    Thanks again...

  • Is Flash the right platform for...

    ...network-oriented applications? The, perhaps, wrong
    impression in my mind is that FlastLite can be used for
    display-only applications. Can I, for example, use it to sent,
    receieve, read SMS, store data, user-interaction?
    Would appreciate a prompt response.
    Best,
    wirefree101

    You can use...
    status = FSCommand2( "GetDeviceID” “id” )
    ... to get the unique identifier of the mobile phone (for
    example, serial number).
    You need to check if this function is supported by the
    device, 'status' will return -1 if it is not supported and 0 if it
    is supported.
    There are also other fsCommand2 functions to handle Device
    and Player identification in the Flash Lite documentation.

  • Am i on the right track for establishing my client connection with BC4J?

    I am developing web-application with BC4J JSP project now. However, I find the auto-generated page not that useful as they are not flexible enough. Then, I decided to write coding by myself. But the first problem is - how to write the coding for client connection? To make maintenance easy, I would like to place those connection code in a class file instead of hard-coding each connection details in my JSP or Servlet page.
    Question 1: Through the examples I search in my JDeveloper (Candidate 2) directory, found a file TestClient.java in the \BC4J\samples\Caching\src\demo directory with the following codes:
    // Create an instance of the application module by name, using local mode
    String _am  = "demo.DemoModule"; // Fully-qualified application module name
    String _cf  = "DemoModuleLocal"; // Configuration name for connection info
    ApplicationModule am = Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(_am,_cf);
    // Find the Managers view object by name in the application module
    ViewObject mgrVO = am.findViewObject("Managers");
    // We're done with the AM instance, so release it
    Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am,true);
    Is it for testing only or really useful for the production environment? Am I doing the right thing if i use such method to establish my web client connection? What's the pros and cons for using this method? Any other better alternatives?
    Question 2: As I know BC4J automatically takes care of connection pooling as a default manner since version 3.2. Can I still use the following statement
    session.setAttribute("user_name", user_name); //Set session attribute
    String user_name = (String) session.getAttribute(user_name); // Get session attribute
    to capture and assign client session correctly for individual clients?
    Question 3: What codes should I use to achieve 'Transaction' update, which assembles the coding as follows:
    Connection.setAutoCommit(false); //disable auto commit
    connection.commit();
    connection.rollback();
    connection.close();
    Thanks for answering!!!

What's the pros and cons for using this method? Any other better alternatives?The Configuration API (createRootApplicationModule, releaseRootApplicationModule) will work. However, please note
    that it is intended for java clients that will hold an ApplicationModule reference for a long duration. The BC4J web
    frameworks (represented, for example, by the ApplicationModule and ReleasePageResources tags) all use the
    SessionCookie interface to acquire/release ApplicationModule instances on a per request basis. This will allow
    better scalability. Please see the pooling sample / documentation / javadoc for more information about using these
    APIs. The pooling sample servlet is located in \BC4J\samples\Pooling\src\demo\TestPoolServlet.

    you intend it to represent the DB user, JAAS user, etc. If you intend it to be used as the DB user you will need to declare
    the "user_name" to BC4J. Please see:

    connection.commit();
    connection.rollback();
    connection.close();ApplicationModule.getTransaction().commit();
    ApplicationModule.getTransaction().rollback();
    If you are using the Configuration or SessionCookie APIs, as mentioned above, then the connection lifecycle will be
    managed for you. So, you should not need to invoke connection.close().
    Thanks for answering!!!

  • Is this the right place for me to get started with pdf development?

    Hi, What I am going to do is to write some AS3 classes which will load a pdf file and can extract its data like taking BitmapData shots from all the pages and that stuff...
    so, will you be able to let me know if I'd be able to ask tech questions in this forum along the way? and also, will you be able to tell me where to start to get some helpful information about pdf files so that I can access and read them in binary level?
    any comment is appriciated,
    Hadi

    thanks for the reply, I just downloaded that reference book and will start reading it in a few minutes... I wonder if I'd also need to purchase the pdf library thing later?  http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf/library/
    or accesing the pdf in AS3 in binary level will solve my problem of taking bitmapData screenshots from pages?

  • Need to be pointed in the right direction for buttons

    Hello,
       I'm trying to figure out if this can be done.    Lets say you have 3 buttons on a web page.  When you hit one of the 3 buttons, text appears and locks on the page.  Each button has different texts that appears and locks.  No matter what order a person hits a button. The texts for that button appears.
       I'm not sure how to do this.  I know how to link buttons and send it to different parts of the timeline, just don't know how this would work.
    any help to be pointed in the right direction would be great.
         Thanks in advance,
            Peter

    Hi Ned,
            If I make a movie clip for each button (3 total) and each button has its own text.  If I have all three layers on top of each other it will play all the text at once.  That something I don't want.  If I spread the layers so there not on top of each other.  I can code it to have the text appear when the button is press but, only one set of text will appear at a time.  What I would like is once the button is pressed and the text fades in it locks in place.  If you press another button, that button texts fades in and locks.  The text from the other button stays locked
           Other Idea I had was when your working with buttons, and double click on it to get the "up-over-down-hit" on the timeline.  on the over part, I know how to put text in that way.  is there a way to lock it once the mouse goes on the "over" part of the button ????
       Thanks,
         Peter

  • Do i have the right equipment for CCNA-Wireless?

    Hello community i am Adan Ramirez, an aspiring Cisco Tech, and I'm trying to get the right equipment for the ccna wireless.
    Here is my shopping list:
    1. 2 Cisco LWAP 1252
    3. NME-WLC6-K9 module card
    Here is what i already have at home:
    1. 1841(2x) - iOS 12.4(24)
    2. 2811(2x) - iOS 15.something something...
    3. 3560 - iOS 15.something something
    4. 2960 - iOS 15.something something
    Problem:  I don't know if the NME needs the latest iOS, the one i saw on eBay says it's version 4.2 something something.  I don't have three thousand dollars to buy a brand new module with iOS 7.0 or $ 12,000 to buy a 5500 WLC.  I'm a broke college student T_T, help!
    and thanks!

    Hi,
    This is sufficient for your CCNA wireless studies. Probably I would add a VM which can run WCS.
    If you really need a WLC, you can buy 4400 series controller (can run upto 7.0.x) for ~200-300 USD. This is the version tested in CCIEv2.0 lab exam as well.
    This is the Cisco forum you should follow for this CCNA-Wireless studies

  • Can someone point in the right direction for how to make a multiplayer game over the internet

    Hello,
    I am looking into making a game where two people who can be in different places would log on to the app, log in and can play - i.e. they would be connected over the internet. I'm looking for a hint on what is the direction to take and which technologies.
    For example is there a best practice for example if you make an app with DirectX and C++, and you use some kind of web service or something? or is it easier using C# and XNA? just looking for some pointers in the right direction. I have played around
    with DirectX, far from proficient but have familiarity, I have no experience with XNA but hear it's less hardcore and easier going. I'm particularly interested in what the best way to connect over the internet.
    Thanks

    What you are asking is very complicated and one of the more difficult things you can do in gaming. I'd strongly recommend you start smaller to learn and then move up to multi-player games as your skills grow.
    From the multiplayer client perspective it doesn't really matter which technology you use. You can write a multiplayer game in any engine or technology that can talk to the network. Choose the client technology that you are most adept at and interested in
    and learn it. You can go straight to DX, use a third party library such as Monogame (XNA isn't supported for Windows Store apps), or a complete game engine such as Unity. Once you can write a decent one-player game you'll have the foundation to start on to
    build a two-player game.
    At that point you'll need to define the problem much more specifically. As you state it, it is really wide open. How do you want the users to connect? Directly machine to machine? Matched through a web server but running client side? Connecting to a game
    running on a remote server? Something else?
    The network connection itself is probably fairly straightforward, but where to connect and how to manage that can be difficult. You'll have to decide what properties you want. Is this an action game where responsiveness is important or
    a turn based game where timing is less relevant?
    Are the players connecting locally or completely remotely? If the former then they can probably connect directly over the local network (NFC is great here). If the latter then they probably will need to connect to a matchmaker service to avoid firewalls.
    This can get very complex, but there are existing solutions you can use rather than writing your own.

  • Is JavaFX the right solution for this scenario...

    Hi,
    Is JavaFX the right choice for the following implementation choice I have to make? (see below for the requirement)
    Requirements:
    1. Provide a way to visualise within a web application an entity relationship type diagram (i.e. nodes with relationships between them). The backend database will hold the topology relationship. So to visualise this on a web application will need the ability to draw rectangles/lines/text etc.
    2. Provide a way to allow the use to trigger "add a new node", or "edit info in this node". For example a right hand context sensitive menu for example.
    3. Ideally will scale as the user resizes the browser window
    4. Would like the main functionality of the application to remain web based (is a Ruby on Rails application in fact), but have the visualization of the diagram render within the web application as transparently as possible.
    Options / Issues:
    * Issues I've struck with some investigation I've done is that whilst the <canvas> tag looks good for Mozilla/Firefox etc, it does not seem to have support on InternetExplorer. Hence cross-browser compatibility seems to be a real issue for the JavaScript type solutions from what I can see. This is why I thought JavaFX may be good?
    * Options therefore seem to me to be:
    - javascript (e.g. <canvas> tag) => cross-platform issue
    - JavaFX / Applet => (this is what I'm asking about)
    - Microsoft => costs $$ for development environment etc
    - AIR / Flex / Flex => ??? costs $$ again I think
    Regards
    Greg

    thanks - I'm still a little confused re their products and which would fit best so I've sent them some questions (below if you're interested)
    Hello,
    Could you please assist me in understanding which of your products would satisfy my needs. In fact (a) whether JGraph itself would and if not, or if it's not ideal, (b) which other product would.
    REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Provide a way to visualise within a web application a connectivity type diagram (i.e. nodes with relationships between them, a network connectively type of diagram).
    2. The server side (i.e. web application with database) will hold the topology relationship. HTTP type interfaces off the web application can be developed to provide the client side visualizing component with the topology data in the required format (assume this is XML)
    3. As well as just visualizing in the browser there would need to be a way for user to trigger a context sensitive "add a new node", or "edit info in this node". For example a right hand context sensitive menu for example.
    4. Ideally the diagram will scale as the user resizes the browser window
    5. Would like the main functionality of the application to remain web based , but have the visualization of the diagram render within the web application as transparently as possible. The the visualizing component would just take topology data and intelligently display this.
    6. DESIRABLE: Basic automated layout would be nice, or as a desirable (depending on cost) more sophisticated auto-mated layout.
    QUESTIONS:
    As well as your recommendation re which product would suite I had some specific questions which I would appreciate clarification on:
    Q1 - I assume if I have a web backend that can deliver topology inforrmation in an appropriate XML format via a HTTP REST type GET call that this could be used as a the source of data for a jGraph visualisation running within an Applet?
    Q2 - If running within an Applet, can jGraph cater for a right hand menu option off the nodes/links on the graph, that I could use to trigger other calls back to the backend? (e.g. to trigger an Add New Node call)
    Q3 - Following on from Q2 scenario, if I trigger an add new node scenario, if I wanted to visualise the form to type in the attributes for the new node, could this be handled within the applet by jGraph, or would this be a case of just adding your own Swing based dialogs to handle this?
    Q4 - Do the basic JGraph do any basic layout without having to go up to the layout Pro package (which I think costs if using it commercially).
    Q5 - If the answer to Q4 is No, how difficult would it be using the base JGraph library to do a basic layout? Is this doable/recommended? i.e. how would one "layout" the diagram if using only the base JGraph component? (noting from my requirements I'm really after a component I could send my topology information to in XML form and have it just visualise it for me)
    Q6 - Running the visualiation in an Applet in a browser, is the typical usage one where all changes to topology are made as calls to backend? i.e. or is there an approach where one would allow users to make changes to the topology within the applet and build up all the changes here on the client, and then at some point synch these back to the backend? (I'm assuming the keep it simple approach would be not to do this)
    Q7 - Is there a sample application/project with source code that implements a JGraph in applet/browser talking to web backend for data?
    Q8 - How does JGraphPro & mXGraph fit into the picture re solving my requirements in the most cost effective manner

  • Is DPS the right direction for me?

    Hello - I'm currently currently teacher technology at the high school level. We have just received the CC upgrade. I had the thought of being able to have apps for the school created by the students. I was wondering if it possible to have apps for both Android and Apple of the InDesign projects the students have created, such as the weekly school newsletter and maps of the school for freshman and etc. I figured this would be the easiest way to get content like this to the students and staff (or maybe it's not, open for all ideas!)
    I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole DPS/app store thing and am getting very overwhelmed!
    So my questions are;
    1 - Is it possible to have the interactive PDFs be created into "apps" for both stores?
    2 - Is this included with the CC subscription my school has purchased?
    If anyone can lead me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

    DPS probably isn't the right solution for you. CC only includes support for building an app for iPad, not Android. Furthermore, Apple is stringent about the kinds of apps it allows in its store, and you will have and I suspect you'll have a hard time getting Apple to approve a basic school newsletter app approved.
    Honestly I think your type of content is better suited to a blog or a website built using Muse.

  • Is Flex the right framework for an online dictionary?

    Hello,
    We are analyzing if Flex is the right framework for our web
    application (online dictionary). We are almost convinced but
    we want to
    have your advices on these particular points :
    This is what we need...
    - Essentially, we must display very complex and structured
    texts.
    - The text is organized in paragraphs.
    - Each paragraph is composed of many group of words.
    - Each group of words can use a specific font, color, size
    and style.
    - Some group of words must use small caps style.
    - Ideally, the style would be in CSS file.
    - We must use unicode characters. (&#x220E;,
    &#x25CF;, &#x25B7;, etc.)
    - We must use fine-space, non breaking space, non breaking
    hyphen, etc.
    - Some group of words must be a link or able to trigger
    events.
    - Some group of words must have tooltip.
    Do you think it's possible to do that with Flex or we are
    better
    to stay in HTML.
    Thanks for your advices.
