The suggestion below is largely a cosmetic and superficial protection.
This add-on:

…provides a single log-in window, asking for your Master Password, which must be entered before Thunderbird displays.
However, it is offered via an add-on, so can be overcome by anyone who knows how to start Thunderbird in Safe Mode.
More importantly, you ought to be aware that your mail store saves the bulk of your messages in plain text, and can be read easily by anyone who knows how to use the file manager and a text editor. So if you lose your USB memory stick, your email is pretty much guaranteed to become public property.
Rather than seeking a password to open Thunderbird, you perhaps need to look at securing the contents of your memory stick.
For installed Thunderbird, the User Account password offered by the operating system, backed up by encryption of your personal data is the surest way to protect your stored mail.

When selecting passwords, make sure it's one that you will NEVER forget AND no one else can figure out.
Old school--- > Print it out & keep in a safe place. A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.
New school---> Get a password manager utility. Highly recommend 1Password which is shareware. Do a Google search for free password managers. -

Is it possible to have 2 mail programmes on my macbook pro? one for business related emails and one personal. I dont want all the emails in one mail programme. At the moment i have 2 personal email address being sent to my mail but because of receiving huge numbers of work emails it would be good to keep them seperate, what is the best way of doing this?

Yes, you can. Nearly all email software can do this. It involves creating two folders and a Rule for each folder.
Maybe call one folder Personal Mail, the other Work Mail (Apple Mail calls folders Mailboxes). One Rule would route all mail from your personal email account into the Personal Mail folder; the other Rule would route all mail from your work email account into the Work Mail folder. It's actually easy to do, all you have to do is click a few things and the rule is set up. Once the Rule is written you can also apply it to existing messages already downloaded to your Mac.
In Apple Mail, Rules are under Preferences > Rules. Follow the prompts to create a rule like this:
If = Any
Account = my Personal account (select the name of your personal email account)
Perform the following actions: Move Message to Mailbox = my Personal Mail (select the name of your Personal Mail folder (aka mailbox))
This rule says, "take any message that comes in from my Personal Account and move it to my Personal Mail mailbox (folder)"
Create a similar rule for your Work email. -
Is it possible to have a playlist that excludes the explicit songs without doing it one by one and that keeps it updated with purchases?

Thanks for any advice (other than buy a new computer!)Not fully automatically, no. iTunes doesn't expose the clean/explicit status to the smart playlist system, but if you're prepared to take a few seconds to tag new purchases, say by adding the keyword Explict into the grouping field, then it will be easy to create smart playlists that exclude those tracks. I use a similar scheme to tag tracks so they they go into seperate playlists for each member of the family, E,g, a grouping of Alice/Bob will go into each of Alice's & Bob's playlists, but not Charlie's.

User's changing their own password
Is it possible to allow user to change their own password when logged onto a portal applicastion I have written ?
Presumably, the application you say you have written, is a Login Server partner application. So changing the user's password means changing it on the login server.
The URL that you need to go to, to do this, is something like: http://server.domain.com/pls/portal30_sso/portal30_sso.wwsso_app_user_mgr.change_password?p_done_url=xxxxx
Where xxxxx is the URL where you want control to go after the user submits their new password.

This isn't due to malware. There is no known malware capable of infecting an iPad that has not been jailbroken (ie, hacked to allow apps from outside the App Store).
As lizdance40 says, your Hotmail account has been hacked remotely. Change the password immediately. Hotmail accounts are popular targets, but as long as you choose a good password, and make sure that password is not the same as a password you use with any other account, you should be safe.
I disagree with lizdance40's statement that you have to abandon the account and create a new e-mail address. If a hacker is able to get back in even after changing the password, the problem is not with the account itself. There's another vulnerability of some kind somewhere. Perhaps the account allows hackers to leave a "back door" to get back in (such as with GMail's delegation feature), in which case any such feature needs to be reviewed and have settings changed. Perhaps you are checking mail in an insecure manner while on an insecure network (ie, a wireless network that requires no password). Perhaps you are using a password on multiple accounts, and a different account has been compromised. Perhaps a hacker has used knowledge gained by prior access to your account to achieve "social hacking" (ie, convincing a tech to give him access because he has "forgotten the password"). There are many scenarios, but there's no good reason to abandon the account entirely. -
I changed my Apple ID that using an invalid email address and I am trying to update iCloud account with my new Apple ID on iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2. I am not able to delete iCloud account without the old password. Is there a way to update the Apple ID of my iCloud account?
Many people are having probalems with this right now. The only solution I've seen that seems to consistently work is the one posted by Brackers28 here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23020591#23020591. This only works if you still have access to your old email account. If you don't, you'll have to have Apple help you reset the password for your old account so you can turn off Find My iPhone and sign into your account with your correct ID.

The clear implication of the OP's question and response was that users would not be allowed to change their own passwords. I'm guessing this is in response to a policy that says users mustn't have simple passwords like 123abc or mom. In such a scenario a better approach would be to apply regexp to a user's password to ensure it contains a mix of letters, numbers, punctuation, etc to achieve the desired level of complexity.
So questions, should not be regarded as daft Agreed, but the same is unfortunately not always true of business decisions. As the OP has told us not to ask we cannot know why they want to do this. Personally, I think a user's individual password should always be their responsibility; anything else strikes me as insecure. YMMV.

Users changing their own passwords
we have set up an Open Directory and are going through the steps to deploy. One issue we have yet to find an elegant solution to is user's passwords and changing them on a regular basis. Many of the contracts we deal with stipulate user passwords are to be changed every 45 days.
Now - there is no way we want our users monkeying around in Workgroup Manger changing their own passwords - and the last thing we on the IT team want to do is perform data entry tasks every couple of months to change everyone's password. Plus - for security reasons - this is a terrible idea.
so - is there an easy way to have a user update their password without going through Workgroup Manager?
thanksAnd you can set the password lifetime and reset and character-content policies in Server Admin > Open Directory > Policies > Passwords, if you've not already found that set of knobs.
I'd also suggest looking to two-factor or certificate-based approaches, if you're having requirements around password resets.
