Hello, is there a way for making a photo transparent with iPhoto are another software?

Not with iPhoto, but different apps have different capabilities.
There are a couple of considerations: How is this transparent image to be used? In a Deskop Publishing environment something like Pages' Instant Alpha might be useful. Or if you're trying to overlay one image on another on a photograph then some editor that supports layers would be required.
Further, Jpegs as a format doesn't support transparency so you'll need to work ina file format that does.
But if you can explain what you're hoping to do we might be able to point you in a more useful direction.
In order of price here are some suggestions for editors:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Is there a way for the CC desktop app to recognize already installed software? Initially the CC app had all my installed software listed but since one of the patches it no longer knows what I have installed. I can still use everything but I'm worried I will encounter issues if I am unable to change this situation. You would have to run teh Cleaner tool and reinstal lfrom scratch. Something botched your installer database.

I have the same problem - I'd like to see the total number of emails I have in each folder when I'm in the folder - it used to be at the top of the screen but since upgrading to iOS7 it's gone. It now only shows how many emails are unread when you're in the folder list.
Gumby20133, I tried double clicking the Home button but nothing happened when I swiped up on the mail preview thumbnail - please could you explain what I was doing wrong? Actually, even if I could do that, would I have to do it every time I wanted to see the total amount of emails in each folder? As what I'm looking for is a way to permanently have the amount of emails showing in each folder - is there any way I can do that?

Is there a way to make a photo book with my iPad (new generation )

I have a number (1000's!) of pictures edited on iPhoto. Is there a way to create a photo book ( not a web book, but one that sit on your table) using the iPad iPhoto app? Can I transfer the edited version of the photos to a Computer that uses Windows?
Any advice / suggestions would be appreciated.

If they no longer show up in iCloud (www.icloud.com), unfortunately, no. They are gone.
It is possible, if you have a back up either phone (iCloud or iTunes), they may be there and could be retrieved by restoring using the back up, but I am not 100% sure of that.

Is there a workaround for making CanoScan8400F scanner work with OS 10.9?

I have a Canon 8400 F scanner and a brand new IMac running OS 10.9
The scanner does not work with its original driver disk, (Apple does not support power PC )...
I tried downloading the european driver but the IMac didnt seem to like that either.
Any help would be appreciated!

You can try using Apple Image Capture located in your Applications Folder or Apple Preview, also in your Applications Folder.

Is there a way to sync multiple photo locations with an iPad.

I have an iPad that I share with my girlfried.
I would like to sync both of our 'My Pictures' folders on our Windows 7 PC with the iPad.
I tired creating a new Windows user account for the iPad, then in the 'My Pictures' folder for that accout, I created a symbolic link to my 'My Pictures' folder and another symbolic link to my girl friends 'My Pictures' folder. The problem is that when this syncs to the iPad, the pictures on the iPad are not divided into serperate albums per sub folder. There are just 2 albums - one of my pictures and one of my girlfriends.
Can anyone think of a way to do this that would preserve the sub folders of both mine and my girlfiends pictures.
I suppose I could copy all of my pictures and my girl friends pictures into the iPad's user account on the PC, but this would waste a lot of hard disk space which I would rather not do.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem. If you create linked folders it will work. Use cmd.exe, go to the directory that iTunes syncs the pictures to the iPad from (using cd "pathname"). Then type
mklink /J "her pics" "c:\users\heraccount\My Pictures"
This makes a folder called "her pics" in the synced folder.
mklink /J "his pics" "c:\users\hisaccount\My Pictures" does the same for you.

Is there any way to restore a photo book in Iphoto 09?

We accidentally deleted a photo book that my wife spent hours on an we need to get it restored. I unfortunately have not set up Time Capsule. I would imagine that the book is stored somewhere on my Imac. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the only way to restore a bok is to restore the iPhoto library from a backup - if you do not have one tehn you can not restore one(there is nothing to restore from)
And note that is you do not have good backups you will lose all of your photos and other files sooner or later - people, computers and software fail and a backup is the only protection agains these failures

Best way to manage external photo collection with iPhoto?

I have a large collection of photos that now resides on an external NAS drive. I used Canon ZoomBrowser EX software on Windows to download the images from my cameras, but I want to start using iPhoto on my MacBook instead. There's no metadata associated with the photos, it's just the JPG files, so the fact that I used ZoomBrowser doesn't really matter.
I want to keep the photos on the NAS drive, so they can be accessed from other (Windows) computers in my house, and I'd like to keep to existing folder structure I'm using there. It would be nice if photos could be added to the library from any computer, but I can live without that if necessary. It would also be nice if I could add photos from my iPhone to the library when syncing with iTunes, without syncing existing photos back to my iPhone, but I might have to use a separate library from the iPhones photos and copy them to the "main" library.
I know I can use either an iPhoto managed library or referenced library with the external drive, but I'm not sure which is the best option given my requirements. Will either or both allow me to retain the folder structure I'm already using? The metadata created by iPhoto doesn't need to be on the external drive, since I'm only using iPhoto from one machine, but it's okay if that data is on the external drive (even though that will slow down iPhoto).

Best suggestion? Use something else.
I don't say this lightly, and you'll see I have some experience with the app but the scenario you describe is not one best suited to iPhoto.
Given: you want the photos files to reside on the NAS.
An iPhoto Library in Managed mode - cannot live on a NAS. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Also, in Managed mode, the Library is simply unavailable to non-Apple devices. Period. Iphoto has no cross platform ability whatever.
So that's out.
iPhoto in Referenced Mode is inherently unsafe when the Library is on one drive and the photos on another. Here's a fuller discussion of the issues:

But the take away is number 3: If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the link will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
Simply that's enough for me to rule iPhoto out.
Aperture has no such limitations in Reference Mode. You can repair paths to images, manipulate the storage via the application and so on. It's more expensive, sure, but more powerful. I think it's a better fit for what you describe.
