The point is that, like all licensed software, you need permission to redistribute it in any form. So the question is: is that permission granted? If you can find anywhere that grants it that's fine.
Adobe used to give out such permission back in the days of Reader 1, 2, 3... but I believe it was long ago removed. There is a strong reason to do this today: third party redistributors aren't likely to be hot on updating to new versions etc. There is a more cynical view: Adobe would also lose such benefits as it might get from offering dubious "extras" with the download. Finally, and strongly - if anyone can distribute it, these days who can tell who has the real product and who has a malware impersonator?

A possible fix for adobe reader icons on windows 2000 with SP4

*This is not a problem! I am posting here because I have received help from some other part of this problem and I have read in other places where people have problems with making the pdf icon appear.*
If the icons won't show after installing adobe reader 9 on your computer, then there is a possible fix you guys can try. Right click on 'Start' for explorer or click on 'My Computer'.
Click Tools > Folder Options > File Types (tab)
Try to find the pdf extension in that long list of extensions.
Below the 'Change...' button, it should read 'Restore' (i'm not sure about this). Click on it once so that it should now read 'Advanced'.
The restore function is to restore the icons to those files which have lost their identities, so to speak.

No issues when setting back as per you instruction below.

Not possible to update Adobe Reader because of the language

I am located in Japan but I do not speak Japanese. When I receive an update notification and try to update my Adobe Reader, it redirects me to the Japanese website and since there is no possibility to change the language I cannot run the update. Why the notification is in English and then everything changes into Japanese? This is very user unfriendly and also somehow short-sighted, assuming that all the people located in a certain place speak the language of this place. There should be a choice, at least for English, if not for all other available languages.
Is there anything I can do to solve it? Maybe I am just overseeing the button since it is all in Japanese only?

More and more websites do that; it's a real pest! "You are in Japan, so you will be served in Japanese. No exceptions!" It took me ages to use Google without being redirected to Google Japan. It took me ages to get Amazon Japan to implement English pages...
Adobe is worse; try to update your Adobe ID, and you will end up in an endless redirect loop between the English and Japanese content!
Anyway, to your problem with the Adobe Reader update; do you also get redirected if you try to download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ ? If yes, your final option will be to download the installers/updates by navigating the Adobe FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/

Possible problems with Adobe Reader 8.0

I just downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 8.0 on my G3 imac OSX 4.8. I have not set this as my default PDF reader, and continue to use Preview instead until I know what I am doing with Adobe. However, it seems like speed of internet is slower than it was before. (Unfortunately, I'm still using dial-up but it seems even slower now.) Other than that, it looks like the installation went fine and it should work fine. Can Adobe have cause browsing to slow down even if I am not using the application? Is it doing anything when I have not specifically opened it as an application? I'm wondering now if I even needed it, since Preview seems to do about the same thing. I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

i#ve included some pdf documents in my website. Thats all documents, which have to fill out by the user. Then the user can/have to save the document.
And theres my question: How can i change the standard storage location? If you click at the Save Button, the standard storage location is "My Documents".
Is this possible?
I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro, can i change this with X Pro? Or can i add something to my source code?

Thanks, but no luck. Adobe Reader Get Info does not show a Rosetta option. I also downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, at the suggestion of the Adobe knowledgebase. That failed as well.

Your question is not about FormsCentral. I suggest you to check whether Adobe Reader is enabled on your web browser's add-in list. For example, on Chrome you may type in "chrome://plugins/" to open the Plug-ins list, and check the status of Adobe Reader. If it's not the latest version, you may update it as well.

Plugin or API from Adobe (for Adobe Reader) for Business Website?

I am looking for a plugin or API from Adobe (Adobe Reader or whatever will accomplish this) that can be added to our business website to make it easier for users to search through our manuals when they have questions about using the software. Does it exist? I want users to be able to type in a string and have the Adobe product search through all our PDF files for the file/page with that information.

Adobe Reader 11 Bootstrap method doesn't work from UNC path

Hello,
I am trying to incorporate Adobe Reader 11 for Windows as an unattended installation in a script, the same way I have Reader 10 setup using the bootstrapper installation method.
I have extracted the Reader 11 Setup executable using 7-zip after "unblocking" the file in its properties, used the Customization Wizard 11 to tweak a few options, and updated the Setup.ini accordingly (including the transform and the unattended install parameters).
Everything works great when I have the files on my desktop. When I copy the folder up to the server share where it will reside, I get an error when trying to run the setup.exe (not even using a script yet).
The error:
"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
I have verified all the permissions, tried everything multiple times, tried using the Customization Wizard with the files on the server, and nother has worked. I have done this with Adobe Reader 10 including using the method of chaining updates in the Setup.ini quite well.
Any suggestions for things I might try?

Solved.
Apparently the problem lies with the machine I was trying the install on. I copied my fully configured bootstrap deployment back to the server and tested it out on a VM and another computer. It worked just fine there. I have no idea why it worked locally but broke on the server for my first test machine. What a waste of the day.

Admittedly it's Eseries rather than Nseries, but how much difference is there really between the devices in this respect? Might be worth a try to see if it works... I'd try mine but my handset is recharging at the moment as I'm doing full charge/discharges to get the battery fully conditioned, so can't try right now.

Installation Issue with Adobe Reader 11.0.03.

I am having issue getting Adobe Reader XI to install onto a machine and needing help resolving it. The machine itself meet and exceed the requirement for the installation. There was a previous version of it installed, but was remove via Group Policy and now it is being deploy via SCCM 2012. So far out of 100+ machines all have successful installed adobe reader XI through the new deployment, except one. Printing problem with Adobe Reader 8.1.1 on Gutsy

Hello,
I have installed the new Adobe Reader 8.1.1 as a deb from Adobe site?
It is fast and works nicely except for printing where there is a problem :
Acroread always seems to print in portrait - this happens whether I have "Auto rotate and centre" option selected or not.
Evince has no problems printing the same document.
Obviously I am not the only one getting this problem :
