Hello, My white McBook (2008 or 2009) recently stopped turning on. When I hook up the Magsafe power adapter, the light shows green, but the computer will not turn on, or make a sound. I've tried the re-boot option, but nothing works. Please advise!

I've tried the re-boot option, but nothing works. I first thought I needed a new battery because the lights at the back are all off, but shouldn't the computer turn on once the power adapter is hooked up and the light on the Magsafe adapter shows green? I'm a computer doofus, so please be kind. Please advise! Thanks in advance.

Why is 50GB of music gone? All music should exist on the computer. Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on. -
Mac OS 10.5 /
I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!!
I do have the OS 10.5 dvd that i purchased years ago...
But my computer will not start from it on its own.
My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info? I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...

Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first.... Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
AND
"Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
this setting is under
Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
-------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
*Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
* you will then be prompted to select your language.
Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
* Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
In that case restart again.
Upon restart once again
*Choose your language...
*Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
*Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
*Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
*Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
I USED THE FIRST OPTION
"Dont erase data"...
*click OK
* click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
*Cancel the disk utility...
* Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
* Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.

it is ok to keep it in all the time, BUT at least once a month let it run the battery down to 10-15% then do a full recharge.

Also, it shutdown unexpectedly when I was using an application. I use it regularly.
Have you tried plugging the charger into a different electrical outlet?

My computer will not turn on but the psu light is on.

First, what is the model or product number of your pc?
Next, what exactly happens?
Turn off your computer and your monitor.
Disconnect the power cord from the pc and from the wall outlet.
Disconnect any external devices other than the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Disconnect any printers, cameras, external hard drives, etc.
Hold in the power button and count to 10. (yes, with no power)
Plug in the power cord directly into a wall outlet and into the pc.
Turn on the computer.
Turn on the monitor.
What happens?
Do we have blue lights on the power buttons for the pc and monitor?
Do any other lights come on?
Do you hear any sounds?
Does anything come on the monitor?
Does the monitor display any message?
On the back of the computer there should be a small light near the power cord - is it on?
Also, how is the monitor connected to the pc? VGA cable with blue ends, DVI with white ends, HDMI?

3 beeps after ram upgrade, computer will not turn on, please help! I have tried everything.
I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inches, i recently upgraded the RAM from Crucial 8gb (4gbx2) to Crucial 16gb (8gbx2). I have done thies before, was er careful, and had antistatic clip, clean work surface, etc. When trying to turn the computer on again, i hear 3 slow beeps, repeated three different times, and the computer does not turn on. I have been looking around for solutions.
I have already swapped the memory modules, cleaned them, dusted the whole computer with air can, put the old ram in and still have the 3 beep problem. It no longer works even with the old ram. The computer was working perfectly fine before this.
Am i missin a step? I saw in a video on youtube that i have to reset the RAM with Alt+P+R+Power button, but nothing happens.
Please help, i am self employed and my Mac Book Pro is the computer i work with!
I have Lion operating system, everything updated very recently. Stock 512 gb hard drive.Thanks for the quick reply Allan, i have reseated the ram 4 times, swapping top and bottom Ram modules, and pushing them in firmly and pressing down evenly with both hands.
I tried to put the old ram in as well in case the New RAM was bad, and that did not work anymore either. I am from Mexico and live in Mexico City, and it is not easy to send the RAM back and get an exchange. I will go to a MAC repair center on monday, but think i am missing some simple step somewhere. As i said this is my work computer and i really need it!
I have reread what i wrote before, to clarify my computer was working fine with the old 8 gigs of ram, i just wanted it to be faster, and bought 16 gb since they are now much cheaper than a few years ago. -

I really love the tiny plastic caps that Apple sticks on top of the magsafe power adaptors, but alas! I finally lost mine today and am wondering where I can find a replacement (or two, or three). I have had no luck searching online for a solution.

It seems like a common item to lose, yet I can't find a vendor, including Apple, that is selling replacements. I'm worried that the adapter might get dirty or ruined from exposure to dust and other particles.

My iphone4 when connected to any computer will not charge and is constantly connecting and disconnecting. It does the same with itunes so it doesnt really sync. Also when talking to someone, all of a sudden they cant hear me.
I'm having the same issue. I went to my local apple store and they could not work me into the genius bar so i made an appointment for tomorrow morning. The clerk did check the phone for the pink indicators at the top and bottom of the phone (where you plug in your USB or headphones) He said if you can see a pink indicator dot you may have gotten it wet, or had some sort of condensation in it, which could cause the plugs to not work.
In regards to people not being able to hear you, i'm waiting for my appointment tomorrow for more news! I would recommend taking it into your local apple store for more answers. -
Computer will NOT install flash...ready to throw it out the window
Youtube and music from sites like projectplaylist have been buffering and not resuming at all recently. I thought that trying to uninstall flash and reinstall it would help. Well after I uninstalled, I can't get it to successfully install. I have tried it in firefox and IE (I use Firefox as my main one). I click save file and it brings up the box to install and installs and then when I go to youtube or any site that requires flash it acts like it's still uninstalled. I checked my programs and I only have adobe reader and adobe air listed. I checked the adobe site to see if it's downloaded and it's not. I download the plug in and it tells me it has failed. I have no clue what I have to do now. I'm not really familiar with computers enough to know what to do. I think I have tried to download it like 20 times now. If I go to downloads the "install flash player" icon does show up. I allow it to download and it acts like it did but then nothing. This is so frustrating! It's not the first time I have had trouble downloading this before. I've tried doing the ccleaner also. Any ideas? When I look up help on other sites it just keeps giving me the manual download page from adobe. That one hasn't been working. Thanks if you can help. I'm ready to call a computer repair shop lol
btw I have a Dell Windows Vista if that helps.Hi, Your Flash files for FF are correct. However, check the Flash folder again and see if you missed one for IE. You should have FlashUtil101_ActiveX.exe. I didn't see it in the list you just posted.
Also is the Shockwave Flash Object Installed and Enabled in the Manage addons?

HT5234 how can you clean the magsafe power adapter cord?
The white cord that is connected to the adapter and the L- tip power port is quite dirty and i was wondering if there is a way that your can clean it i tried scratching it with scissors, it works but im afraid that it will reack the cord is there any other way?
That's mean i can't? Cause my power adapter was dead and i bought a new one today. So I should go to AppleCare then?

I can't get into my books in my library on Adobe Editions 4, they are there and it is asking me for vendor id and password. When I put them in, it is saying vendor id is no good.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where are those image file located? It sounds like they are located somewhere inside the iPhoto Library folder and iPhoto will not import any file located there. So move them to the Desktop and import from there. Never put any file inside the iPhoto Library folder via the Finder or move, rename or edit any file or folder via the Finder.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. -
The battery drained while using the computor so we pluged it in but computor will still not fully turn on.
