HELP-40GB i-pod with scrolling click wheel

ok first of all, i got this new computer. I dowloaded itunes onto it. I want to plug in my i-pod into my new comp but im afraid that all my songs will be deleted. I have all my songs on my other computer, but the other computer isnt working. I also need to plug it into the new comp because a little folder with the ! comes up every once and a while. Also, my i-pod begins to play a song then it stops and it goes to the next song, this is related with the menu icon and the !. Now all of a sudden i press the MENU button and the apple logo pops up then it just turns back off. WHAT DO I DO? i want to keep all my songs, but at the same time im afraid that if i plug it into the new comp all my songs will disappear. Also why is my i-pod just shutting off when i turn it on?

The first thing that anyone is going to suggest to you in respect of the folder and ! error is to reset your iPod and/or restore it. Restoring the iPod will erase anything that's stored on it and return it to factory settings. You may not have any choice but to do this.

  • I have an older Ipod with the clicker wheel. w

I have an older ipod with the clicker wheel.  Once I have imported a CD to iTunes, how do I get it to transfer to the iPod by Artist or Album instead of only each individual song?  When I import to my ipod and click on Artist or Album, it still shows the entire list of songs.  Thanks

A 15GB iPod would have to be a 3rd gen iPod.  It has a touch (not click) wheel with four touch buttons in a row that glow orange during use, correct?  That model needs to be connected using FireWire, because it cannot charge over USB.
If your new Mac has a Thunderbolt port, you can get an adapter for FireWire
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
plus an adapter for FireWire 800 to FireWire 400
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/FIR1369AD/
Another way, if you have the square white FireWire power adapter that came with your iPod, is to get a special docking cable that Apple used to sell a long time ago.  It has both USB and FireWire connectors.  Here's a listing for a third-party version on eBay
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Vanco-iPod-Dock-Connector-to-1-USB-1-FireWire-Cable-/2 71074766489?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item3f1d50ae99
(Search on "FireWire USB iPod docking cable" to see other listings.)
What you do with this thing is plug the USB connector to your Mac's USB port, the FireWire connector to the FireWire power adapter, and the dock connector to the iPod.  iPod can then sync over USB while getting power over FireWire.
I would go with that special cable, to avoid using a series of adapters (which adds complexity and unreliability) and tying up the valuable Thunderbolt port for just your iPod.

  • Troubles with the Click Wheel (or whatever the "technical term" is) HELP!

My iPod works pretty well, except for the click wheel (or whatever you wanna call it). It scrolls fine, but when it comes to trying to press the menu button, or even sometimes when I try to press the play, forward or backward button, it seems to think I'm pressing the center select button instead, selecting something on the screen instead..
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it! (I posted one earlier but I'm new at this and was told I should make the subject more specific..
    Thanks!
    *Ace
(P.S. It's not the iPod with the four buttons across the top- it's one with just the wheel and the center select button)

    I still need help please!
When restoring the iPod, that erases everything on the iPod, correct? Would I then have to do all that stuff you have to do when you first get the iPod, like registration type stuff? Does this mean that everything in iTunes will be erased as well? (I have purchased a lot of music that is not on a CD..)
sorry, many questions in one... thanks for the help though!

  • Problem with my ipod (4th gen i think, the one with the click wheel)

after i updated my ipod (its the old click wheel one with the black and white screen, brought in 2004) with update 3.1.1 (2006-03-23) i got some new songs that i brought from itunes and they worked fine. i left my ipod for a couple of days and it took a while to load which is usual and the apple symbol came up etc. the problem came after this having not turned it on when i do those new songs just skip and don't play. whichever way i try it, playing them in a playlist or straight from the album section or just as one song they do not play. i have rebooted my ipod and have the most recent version of itunes. the only way i can get these songs to play is by reconnecting the ipod to my computer which becomes a hassle if i have to do it every time i have left it. once i have done this they play fine until i leave it again and miss a day of not turning it on.
any help would be much appreciated but i am beginning to think that it is past all help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. The hotness is symptom of a hardware problem

  • What the hecks wrong with my click wheel

O.K. so every time i turn my ipod off i can hear the click wheel. For example I just randomly spin my click wheel (whene the ipods off) and i hear the clicking noise.
    Whats wrong with it

The iPod is still in the process of going to sleep. You can put it on hold. The clicking noise should stop after about a minute or two after it has been turned off.

  • Problems with iPod Click Wheel

alright, about a week ago, the menu button on my iPod stopped working. So, to try and correct the problem, I restored my iPod using the iPod Updater. On the one hand, this did get my iPod's menu button to work, but now the click wheel isn't functioning. I've tried toggling the hold switch back and forth, as well as resetting it, but to no avail. What's odd is that sometimes the click wheel will work (in a very limited capacity...only like half of the wheel responded) for a few minutes...then it will stop. If anyone has any suggestions of advice, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Somebody, anyone, help please? If no one has an answer can someone point me into a direction where someone does? A tech support number or something?

  • New iTunes syncing with older click wheel iPod

I have an older 20 GB 1st gen. click wheel iPod. I'm wondering if I will have syncing problems upgrading to iTunes 10.2.2. Has anyone done this without problem? Please let me know.

Can I use the new versions of iTunes on an old iPod
Yes. I have iTunes 9.0.x working just fine with an iPod that's a generation older than yours.

  • Please HELP! Song appears in playlists and song lists, but when clicked, it goes to a random song. Nano only, not itunes. I have the nano thats almost like a square with the click wheel.

ONLY SOME songs appear in song list, but when clicked, play a random song instead of the one i chose. You can play the song on iTunes, just not the ipod nano. (the one that has a clickwheel and looks almost like a square)

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device.  If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

  • Help finding Mac screensaver with scrolling text (Windows Marquee-esque)

I have been searching the internet somewhat intensely for a scrolling text screensaver for my Macbook. I found an Apple download called "message", but that is wayyy too fancy for me. I can barely even see the text with all of the crazy fonts and weird zooming. The emphasis is not on the text for that screensaver.
Something like the Windows Marquee would be fine, though I am sure somewhere out there is a tricked-out version for Mac. I would just want to be able to read the text clearly, as I intend to use the screensaver to help me to memorize some text.
Maybe I am overlooking an obvious screensaver already loaded on the Macbook, but I am surprised that Tiger does not come with such a screensaver. Any suggestions and links? Thank you

I think you should be able to find something that works for you using Quartz Composer. As an example, here is a link to someone else that was working on horizontal scrolling text. I don't know if their project got completed (or if it's currently included in Quartz Composer) but the .qtz file on this page will load in QuickTime so you can see the results as of this posting.
    http://www.mulle-kybernetik.com/weblog/2005/05/towardshorizontal_scrollingi.html
You get Quartz Composer by downloading the Xcode tools. I'm looking through the example libraries now to see if there's something you could use in the current examples.

  • Games/apps to help me learn how to scroll, click, etc?

I'm a long time PC user but work has switched to MacBook Pros for everyone. I use a lot of keyboard short cuts and other things that either don't work or cause problems. I'm struggling to remember when I click with two fingers vs. swiping, how far apart my fingers should be, and so on. I know it's supposed to be intuitive but for me it's just frustrating. More often than not if I need to get something done, I return to my ancient PC.
Is there any game or training software that will help me learn all the keyboard shortcuts and correct finger motions for my new MacBook Pro? All IT will tell me is 'use it to learn it' which doesn't help when I can't get through a simple web page or document.

I've helped some users to learn how to become more proficient with the tap/swipe interface, and you know it takes some getting used to.
The IT people who tell you "use it and learn in" are exactly right. Otherwise, you spend your time referrng to lists of procedures and commands, and learning comes even more slowly.
Cheat Sheet http://www.cheatsheetapp.com/CheatSheet/ is a free application that will remind you of the most common hints that are available to you, given your system; tap on the action, and it will automatically launch the command.
Apple has video and textual tutorials http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/ to jump-start your learning.
Concentrate on the things you like to do (like web browsing or entering text) and build your competency bit by bit. For beginners, it's best to get help from a fellow user, if you can.

  • I pod with click wheel no longer connecting to PC and locked

I have had an ipod with a click wheel for sometime and it has been working fine. REcently everytime I try to switch it on I get a folder displayed in the ipod window showing an exclamation mark telling me to go to apple.com/support. When I try to connected my ipod to itunes it doesn't show on the programme and it locks the whole system. I have downloaded the latest version of itunes but this has not made any difference. Can someone please help as I don't know what else to try and the apple.com/support has not got any information to help me. The battery is fully charged.

I'm not here to help you, on the contrary, I'm having the same (or at least, a similer) problem.
My iPod (4TH Gen) used to work fine. One day iTunes tells me something like: iTunes has detected a iPod in recovery mode... having backed up my music before, I now pressed the recover button. It then told me to connect the iPod to the wall outlet charger. I did so. But after connecting it to my PC again, it started all over, telling me to recover... I repeated the process, and again it didn't work.
Somehow after a good few times it gave in, and started working. But only two days passed, and there you go once again. I'm caught in the trap of this never ending cycle, and I see no way out.
    Go figure.
