HELP! 40GB photo ipod "wall charger" icon..

I am not sure what generation my photo ipod is but I got it a year or two ago so I am assuming it is a 4th generation one. All of my songs were deleted and now has the "plug to wall charger" icon. The problem is, I don't have a wall charger anymore. Would I need to buy one or does anyone know of any other methods I can go through to fix it? I been charging my ipod through the usb/computer.
Please help. I am too broke to afford to buy a new one! I love my ipod dearly!

I purchased a refurbished 4th generation HP branded Apple iPod for my friend today. When I was setting it up for him I noticed it was formatted for Windows and he uses a Mac, like me. To change it to Mac-format, so he could install firmware updates, I restored the iPod in iTunes. I've done this a number of times with my Mac and my iPod Mini, however with a firewire cable. I didn't know that if you restore this generation iPod with a USB connection, you need to connect it to a wall charger afterwards to complete the firmware update.
HP did not ship this iPod with a firewire cable or a power adapter. It was asking to be connected to a wall adapter but we did not have one. We bought a car power adapter, but this didn't work. We tried inserting the USB cable half-way, but that did not work either. What finally worked was taking the iPod to a Radio Shack and plugging it into an iPod clock radio/boombox type device; the firmware installed, the iPod rebooted, and we have a Mac-formatted iPod working perfectly now.
No amount of resetting or attempts to put the iPod in disk mode prior to this would work. Hope this helps someone.

  • Wall Charge Icon appears, doesn't do anything else do

I just bought this 20 gig iPod used. I connected it to my mac and everything was good. It started to sync but I stopped it to restore it to factory settings. Then I had to download some update. So after it updated, the wall charge icon appeared. I've left it charging for the past hour and the icon hasn't changed since. Any help?

It seems your iPod have not get charged via the ac charger. Try to do a reset and connect with the ac charger. I could be wrong, the some of the early iPod model cant be charged via usb cable. Can you bring your iPod to the shop and try with the Firewire Power adapter, and see it works

  • Apple iPod Wall Charger

I've got that white iPod wall charger, and when I plug it into the mains, it makes a high pitch noise. why is it? something in it is spinning really quick, because when I turn it off, it starts to slow down. (i think that's what it is)..
    what's wrong?
the ipod needs a new hard drive.... is this a reason for the wall charger screwing up?
it uses the FireWire connection (the charger does)

  • Win/iTunes doesn't recognize iPod + monochrome charger icon, please help

Yesterday, my iPod was fine and now it doesn't seem to work. When I put in my iPod, it goes in, I see the Apple logo and then it goes straight to the monochrome charger icon. iTunes nor Windows recognizes it and when I take it out, the iPod doesn't work at all. Nothing appears. I tried the R's, and nothing. I've had the iPod for about 6 months, I'm hoping the battery didn't expire already... Someone please help me out. If it helps, iTunes 7.0 and I have Windows 2000 and Disk Use was enabled. Thank you.

    Anything here of help?

  • IPod Wall Charging

Not sure if anyone has tried this... but when you have multiple iPods in the family, it's bound to happen. I attempted to use a regular iPod USB wall charger to simply charge the Shuffle from the wall. To begin it appeared to not charge... after disconnecting and reconnecting a few times, success - the Shuffle appears to be charging. After sometime I disconnect the unit and see that the battery indicator shows green... I go to turn it on, and all seems fine until hitting the play button. I then get the alternating Orange-Green light show. Same with the battery indicator on the back (orange-green). Which led to my post below this one (had the battery drained enough to not have anything on it at this point)? Or is the iPod Shuffle incompatible with the regular USB wall charging units. Just curious... I can charge through computer, but tried this when I only wanted to charge. Little help would be appreciated... thanks.

Yes, is able to charge the other iPod... not sure what's happening here. Appears to charge when it does... but it may be having had let it sit for too long (which i didn't think was very long at all)... likely it drained and erased it's files along with it.

  • Ipod displays charging icon when not plugged in

Hey, i have had a 30GB ipod video for almost a month now but recently it has had this problem. When i unplug my ipod from the computer, the charging icons do not turn into the default battery icon. It still says its charging. As far as i know it does successfully charge when plugged in, however i cant check the battery life becuase it always displays the charging icon.
Also when i shut it down, by holding the play button, the charging screen is displayed. Im sure this is using battery life so id like to get the problem fixed.
Ive tried reseting and restoring, nothing has worked.
PS. I use the USB cable to charge, i dont have an AC adapter.
    Thank you

Thanks, i wouldnt mind as much if i was able to see the battery life and be able to shut it down.
Any idea what would cause this? Even after reseting and restoring?
EDIT: Ok my ipod just now told me its out of battery life, after being plugged in all day.
Now it is stuck looping from the apple logo to 'no battery life..', then reseting and repeating.

  • Please Help! my ipod wont charge

Hey, my ipod wont charge, yesterday i was out and it rained and my ipod got wet and im wondering if this could affect it? I have tried alot of leads and none of them work, ive only had the ipod for 5 months but it was second hand, is it fixable, can anyone help?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Yes, ti could be due to the water. Make sure it is dry

  • Reset ipod, wall charger

I just reset my son's ipod, and now it wants me to plug into a wall charger, which I did, but the symbol for wall charge hasn't come off of the screen! How long does it take, or is there something else wrong?

I had the same problem with the plug in symbol on display and it not recognizing my usb power supply. It also didn't work when I bought the electric wall/power supply for the usb connection. *Here's the fix!!!!* Go to Best Buy and look at the *Curtis Clock Radio* for IPOD (approx. $39.99)It will be in the boombox/clock radio section. Not the MP3/IPOD section! Put your ipod on the display model and it should connect, finish updating etc! They don't care if you "try it out"! If that one doesn't work for some reason, try the other ipod type radio/boomboxes! It worked for me!!!! Rick

  • Help. about the ipod nano charged with usb 1.1

i just got the ipod nano. now i am charging it. according to the mannul, it will take 3hr to charge it by usb 2.0.
considering i only have usb 1.1, so my question is how long it wil take to charge the nano. until i wait for 6hr and the screen still shows do not disconnect. i can transfer the music and image to the nano. thanks.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how long the charge will take with USB 1.1, but I'd guess it would be way longer that "twice as long".
The "do not disconnect" will show as the display until you eject the iPod thru iTunes.
Now here the tricky part since I don't have a 1.1 USB. If you eject it thru iTunes, I believe the screen will show if it is still charging or "charged". So when you know you need to charge it, plug in to the `puter, then eject and leave it connected, to see what happens.
I do recommend getting the USB power adapter. For USD30.00, it is really worth it. Well, for me at least. I charge regularly (4 times a week) and only plug into my computer to add more music (maybe once a month). Your usage may be different, but it is so easy to come home and just plug it into the dock (plugged into the wall).

  • HELP!! ipod has sad icon but nothing's working

i think i was clicking too fast through my music when suddenly my ipod froze (my bad!). i tried the menu + select thing but it didn't work, it just remained frozen. i noticed the battery was low. when i fiddled around with it and nothing was working, i just put my ipod away (i was at school) and decided to let the battery die down and leave it alone, since i didn't know what i was doing away.
so i get home. the screen is dark. i connect my ipod with the usb port to my computer and the strange thing is, IT'S NOT SHOWING UP on the source menu, so i can't restore it. i log onto this site for help, and it says that when there's a SAD ICON, you should try and "force it into disk mode first". i did that, but it's not working. after i press menu + select, and then menu + play/pause, it just goes back to the sad icon screen again. i did this about 10 times and it keeps doing the same thing.
so i can't force into disk mode because it keeps doing that and i can't restore. am i doing something wrong??
I NEED HELP!!! my ipod is still connected to my comp and every once in a while it goes to the screen w/ the apple on it but it always goes back to the sad icon screen, and whatever menu + select stuff i do, it just keeps going back to that screen!!!
    please answer ASAP!

There is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • Ipod Touch Charge Icons

There are two different icons telling you the ipod touch is charging (in the top right corner)
One thats the electrical bolt symbol.
and the other which is a charge connector thing, but it dosen't charge when that's up.
    What's the difference?

When the "connector thing" is displayed, I'm pretty darn sure that means your iPod is fully charged.
Or it also could mean it's connected.
But since it's not letting you charge it when you see that, it's probably a full battery symbol.
If it's not connected to your comp, or if it was empty before but it won't let you charge, it's probably a technical glitch. The latter could need serious attention, though.

  • Why did apple stop making the 40gb photo ipod?

    ????

The cost differential between the different sized hard drives decreased and, to simplify the product line, the 40GB iPod Photo was discontinued.
