Help(875 Neo FISR2 promise IDE)

Currently I have 3 hds(A,B,C) and DVDrom, CDRW in my pc, Now two HDs(A,B) in secondary IDE, DVDrom and CDRW in Primary IDE(if I change two IDE, one of my HD only can work in PIO mode), and another HD(C) in Promise IDE, Can anybody tell me how to check the HD(C) in promise IDE working mode? when i copy something from HD(C), it will be slow. Thank you very much

I just happened to be useing a single stick of DDR333 while waiting for my new PC 3500 2x256 for dual channel. And was useing a PNY Ti4200 and got the same result no video and 4 green lights.Eventually I tried resetting the CMOS jumper and that fixed that problem. The video posted. But further down the road  PNY cards and MSI 875P NEO FISR2 and corecell software did not play well together.I tested 2 different PNY cards , a Ti4200 and Ti4400 with corcell installed system would crash.Even without corecell system would also crash with PNY cards just not as fast. Put my very old 3d Phrophet 256 geforce in and ditched corecell software and all was stable.Until MSI gets a working version of Corecell software forget it.I eventually bit the bullet and upgraded to ATI 9800 Pro and all is well. (Except for Corecell and memory timeings .) :(
Try resetting CMOS jumper! ?(

  • [Help]IDE3 for MSI875 neo FISR2

    I buy the new PC
    MSI 875 Neo FISR2

    IBM 120GBx2 (8M cache)

    LITEON CDRW 52x24x52
    MSI FX5200 128M 8x
    Windows XP Professional SP1
Bf Installing New HD, I already install OS and everything. And it seems perfectly. I check the HD DMA setting and it shoe UDMA 5. Now I want to add one HD(WD 100GB) to IDE3.
    1.   In Bios I set “Onboard Promise IDE” to “As Raid”, Windows XP cannot find the third HD . but if you boot in dos mode, dos can find the third HD. And windows XP boot very slow. And I check the DMA for HD, now it’s PIO mode
    2.   In Bios I set “Onboard Promise IDE” to “As SATA”, Windows XP can find the third HD . And windows XP boot very slow. And I check the DMA for HD, now it’s PIO mode
For the above two situations, I try to change cable, reinstall windows xp (overwrite), delete the IDE control in device manager, but it remains the same result.
So today I decide to format c drive and see whether DMA will be set back.
Can any buddy give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot.

    samlily
You make no mention of installing the Promise drivers from the Drivers and Utilities CD
There are two drivers, one for IDE and one for Raid, only install the driver you need
    Example
One Drive on IDE 3, Set Bios as SATA, install Promise IDE Driver
    Hope this helps

  • MSI NEO-FISR2 875 lockup issues

I've just built a new system on the MSI NEO FISR2 875P motherboard.  Here are the specs:
    2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4
    2x512MB Kingston 434mhz HyperX modules
    2x120GB Seagate SATA drives
    1x200GB Western Digital drive
    Plextor DVD-RW
    Creative 6x DVD-ROM
    SoundBlaster Audigy2 Platinum
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
The system seems rock solid, until I run any kind of game, at which point the system will lock up within 10 minutes (usually much less) of play.  I've tried the following:
Cooling: I have five case fans, a processor fan, a power supply fan, and a video card fan.  This ATI card was in my last system as well (Athlon 1.4ghz, 512MB RAM), and would lock up only if the case was closed; I concluded that it was a heat problem.  However, this lockup occurs no matter if the case is open or closed, and due to the case fan on the side, I imagine it's cooler if the case is closed anyway.
Disabling sound: I've disabled the Audigy2 in the hardware manager, and got the same problem.
Underclocking the video card: I underclocked the ATI basically as far as it would go; same problem.
Updating drivers: I have the latest BIOS (I guess I should consider myself lucky considering the amount of unsuccessful BIOS flashers in this forum), sound drivers, video drivers, DirectX (9.0a), chipset drivers, and HDD controller drivers.
I guess when I get home today I'm going to try swapping out the ATI in exchange for an old Geforce2 GTS.  Even if it does "fix" the problem, though, I'm concerned that it may not be the video card; MSI's "stealth" overclocking whenever the system gets taxed might be stressing the AGP bus to the point where the ATI can't handle it and the Geforce2 can.
Is there something I'm missing?  Any way to disable this ridiculous "technology" that MSI has implemented?  Do you think I could convince them this is a reason for an RMA?
    *sigh*
    -Paul

Ah yes.  Sorry I didn't mention that.  It's an Antec TruePower 430W power supply.
It might also be worth mentioning that after one of the aforementioned game crashes:
    - I'm pretty sure things crash back to the desktop, but the display is so corrupted that I cannot be sure; the system seems to respond somewhat to keyboard events.
    - Most of the time, after the crash, if I press the ATX power switch, the system will shutdown properly (or as far as I can tell; the shutdown sound plays and the system turns off, but the display remains corrupted so I don't really know).
    - After such a crash, when I power back on, the CMOS has been cleared.
    - After such a crash, sometimes, the ICH5R fails to detect one or both SATA drives, but when ctrl-alt-deleted, everything's fine (I replaced both serial ATA and serial ATA power cables).
    - After such a crash, sometimes, the system boots such that both monitors are displaying the same thing, and I have to manually select "Extend my windows desktop" onto the second monitor, change its resolution, and *reboot* (which is odd; I can change this without a reboot if the system did not just crash) before the settings are applied.
    Any ideas appreciated.

  • Plz Help On Promise Ide

On Intel CH2R5 chip there is a RAID aray 2 WD RAPTOR RAID 0
    On the IDE1 and IDE2 DVD -RW, CD-RW,DVD-ROM , CD-ROM
Haw I can install a 3rd HD WD 120JB (ATA) on the promise IDE RAID connector
    as simple ATA drive.
I can't find the correct settings on BIOS (1,9)
It works now as RAID 0 STRIP with one disk ???????
and in the WinXP recognized as dynamic disk ????
All I need the use the promise ide to connect my new ATA HD
    Thanks in advance
    Sorry for my English

And you'll have to install the "Promise SATA drivers" from the MSI CD when you start Windows. After re-booting you should be able to format and use the drive.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Question-boot from Promise IDE on 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

I bought my first MSI board a couple of years ago, an 865PE Neo2-LS. When I retired that, I went for an Abit 875P IC7-G. I just hated the Abit board, used it 3 months and replaced it with a new MSI 865PE Ne02 FIS2R.
I didn't reinstall WIndows XP Pro with the new motherboard. Everything seemed to be OK until I could get around to a clean install of XP. One reason I wanted the FIS2R model was that I wanted to use the faster Promise IDE connection for my boot drive. I had a heck of a time getting the drive to boot, but it finally worked. I was having a few problems that I thought a repair reinstall of XP might solve. So, I tried that yesterday.
Now I cannot get the same drive to boot from the Promise IDE controller. I saw that setting were changed in the BIOS and I can't figure out how to set them so I can boot from the C: drive on the Promise. It will boot fine from the regular primary IDE controller, but I want to use that for two other hard drives I use for storage. The secondary IDE connection is for a CDRW and DVDRW drives.
I've looked at the FAQs and read the manuals. How do I just use the IDE on the Promise? What should my BIOS settings look like? The Promise drivers are installed on the boot drive, the system will post and I'll see a flash of the Windows XP intro screen, then a flash of a blue screen and it kicks it back to booting again. I've never been able to see what that blue screen is telling me. THe drives I want to put on the Promise controller are PATA drives, I don't want SATA or RAID, just using the Promise as a third connection for IDE drives.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I have tried every imaginable way of setting the BIOS, but can't seem to hit the right combination. That's what I did on my first try when I got it working, hit a lucky combination and it worked.

Thank you. I had already tried the settings in the post you linked to. I had no luck there. I've reinstalled the Promise drivers, but the boot drive refuses to go past the Windows flash screen before resetting. I think it's quite simple what I'm trying to do. I have six drives. On IDE 1 I want to two storage drives to be connected. On IDE 2 I'm putting the Cd and DVD optical drives. On IDE 3 (Promise) I would like to have my boot (master) drive and a slave drive. Rearranging cables I can get the drive to boot from IDE 1, but no luck with IDE 3. I think it's the Promise drivers, they appear to be installed, but I don't think they are working. I'm going to copy the Promise drivers to a floppy and reinstall XP with the boot drive on IDE 3 and see if I get anywhere with that.
The link referred more to SATA and RAID setup, I just want to use the Promise IDE. I'd sure hate to have to put the awful Abit IC7-G back in my system as I can only get 5 IDE devices in that one instead of the 6 the MSI should run.

Well, not exactly sure but kinda. This is what happened. Board was replaced with bios version 1.5. Worked fine for 3 days then the mystery 50% usage came back. They then replaced the memory with ddr400 from ddr333. It's been over a week now and the problem has not returned.
So there are 3 probable culprits at one point or another. The board, the bios and the memory. Personally, I find it very odd that memory was a factor. It seems that bios 1.5 is not at all happy with ddr333. :(

  • Audio Connections and K8T NEO FISR2

The audio connection on my Wavemaster case has the following connections:
    R-OUT
    MIC IN
    GND
    L-OUT
They are all 4 single pin connectors.
    The NEO FISR2 has:
    AUD-MIC
    AUD-GND
    AUD-MIC BIAS
    AUD-VCC
    AUD-FPOUT-R
    AUD-RET-R
    HP-ON

    AUD-RET-L
Any ideas as to what the proper connections should be?  The only one I’m sure on is the ground.  I’ve tried a few combinations with no luck.  I’m beginning to wonder if I have a bad daughter card on the Wavemaster or something wrong with the board???

    Thanks SAB and southmike,
I'll try that, though I think I'm having sound problems in general.  I installed an Audigy2 ZS.  I'm getting no sound at all.  Here is what is really strange.  When I disable the Audio 97 option in Bios, Cool and Quite gives me an error saying that a device file can not be found and that cool and quiet is incompatible with my notherboard.  When Audio 97 is re-enabled the message goes away
    Any ideas?

  • Promise IDE Controller

Does anyone know how to configure the BIOS to use the Promise IDE controller to add an additional hard drive? I am not trying to set up a RAID array, I am simply trying to add another hard drive to my system using the IDE3 connector.
    Thanks in advance...  :(

    Pete M -
Thanks for the info, I think I am almost there.
I followed your suggestions, and in Windows 2002 device manager now sees the drive. It is labeled:
    WDC WD1200JB-00CRA1 SCSI Disk Device
(although it is an IDE device)
However, Windows does not assign a drive letter to it, and it does not appear in "My Computer"...

  • 875 neo pc 3500 kingmax

Hello i have a 875 neo fis2 motherboard and a 2.8c intel p4, i placed both mosules in channel  a the green one and my mempery scores are hell low in sandra im taking 2870 low.  There set up for dual channel whats going wrong some one told me to run theese on a 1:1 ratio.   Surely i should be getting faster speeds previosuly i had pc2100 installed i cleared the bios after insalling theee and there giving me problems and there no real performance increase from the old modules please help!

I Kind of Figured that is what was going on, when he Said He Put Both Modules in the  Channel "A" "Green" Bank, But I was Trying to Be Sure, and get More info from him, as I was Having a little Trouble Understanding him robswift, and then he logged Off ...But arve121, You Must do as rob said, and Install the Memory modules, in the DIMM Slots By Skipping 1 Slot Inbetween the 2 Modules, So You Have to install 1 Module in the A-1 (Green) Slot, and then Put Module 2 in the B-3 (Purple) Slot ........Or you Can Put 1 Module in the A-2 (Green) Slot, and the 2ND Module in the B-4 (Purple) Slot, as Long as You Skip a Slot Inbetween, You Must Have it Like this For Dual-Channel DDR to Be Enabled...........Sean REILLY875

    Hi
Change your PSU, from the QTEC 550W...........
Honestly, I came here with 550W Qtec and was advised this.....I went to Enermax 365 and then Enermax465......I have not looked back.......
They cost twice a QTEC.......but when you think the Qtec PSU could BLOW whole system UP.........twice the price seems OK....

  • 875 neo & 4200 memory problems

Hi, everybody. I did picked up a lot of usefull information from this bord, but was lucky enough not to run intoo problems untill now. Before recently I was using pc3200 memory and was able to oc it up to 450 (in auto mode) but that was the limit. When I changed settings from auto to 333, I was able to reach 260 on Cpu and memory read was still 400. Performance sucked, but it is not the question I want to ask, it was just for the sake of knowing that my 2.8 capable of 3.62.
The problem is that couple days ago I purchased ddr4200/533 by OCZ Technologies that supposedly is supported by 875 neo board.
When I set ddr frq auto, 500, 533 it will not boot, or boot with bios defaullts.
When I set ddr on 400 everything is just fine until I reach 250/500 on those settings it runs rock solid. But don't you know that it is not enough? As soon as I try to change fsb to 255-251(tried them all) it boots, starts loading windows and gives me a blue screen of death. Tried to encrease voltage, change latency, nothing works, the only settings that windows loads compleatly was 251/505 but it crashed in the middle of 3dmark3 back to blue screen of death.
I am quite willing to provide you with more extensive Bios settings of my system if you will just tell me what you all want to know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, This is a MAT / PAT issue.
    You can try:-
    Dynamic Overclocking: Disabled
    Performance Mode: Slow
and memory timings of 3-4-4-8, but even at slow performance mode still affects your timings.

This simply is not the case the 875P boards only officially support upto DDR400. The only board to support higher memory speeds are the 865PE Neo2-PS series.
I would use CPU-Z to verify your actual memory timings and Memtest to ensure your memory is actually performing as it should, but I suspect this is a mobo issue.

  • 875 Neo 2

I wonder can anyone help me out and tell me were i have gone wrong.
    i have just bought the MSI 875 Neo 2 mainboard , 3.0ghz FSB800,1 gb ddr400 mem , SB Audio 2 Plat EX , Radeon 9800pro 128,SCSI Card(Booting From)running XP.Bois 1.7
    Disabled On Board Sound.
I have a few problems. (Have Downloaded new Updates)
    1) Live monitor Crashes with error on Start up. Service is not Loaded ( Sometimes ).
    2) Corecenter crashes my board and resets when i click on Auto. What do i need to setup for this to work or what is the best way to overclock this.??
    3) when i go into the BIOS and try to switch from Slow Mode to Turbo my borad Hung on OS load and when i powered off and on the error from the bios was Timings to tight. The bios reset to defaults and i had to setup boot order and other things again.
I am new to all the overclocking stuff can anyone suggest anything, i have uninstalled CoreCenter as i did not want to crash my PC is there a Version i should use.
    Thanks.

First off i would like to thank you all for you help.
I have solved my problem with the MB being unstable with Corecenter and LiveMonitor throwing up errors at login.
I stopped both apps loading at start up as they must hook into services. Xp is different from NT and 2000 in the way it loads Services, Microsoft thought they would make there OS seem like it boots faster by giving you a Logon screen in XP before all the services are loaded and running. This gives you the image that XP is super fast at loading.
So the problem has been solved, by not having the Apps load automatically while the services are not quite ready. Starting them a short period after login or waiting a while after the login screen comes up works everytime and i have managed to OC using the bios Fast option.
Thanks again , also i must say my PC is now like OH MY GOD HOW FAST !!!!.

  • AMD64 3200 + MSI K8T Neo FISR2 memory problem

I've had one KVR400X64C25/512 and it have worked like a charm. Now I've bought another one (total 1gb).
When I've inserted it and start the computer I only get the CoreCell logo scren, it do not boot correctly.
    AMIBIOS is version 3.21a
    I've tried the following:
    * run only the new memory [works]
    * run only the old memory [works]
    * DIMM1 + DIMM3 [only CoreCell screen]
    * DIMM1 + DIMM2 [only CoreCell screen]
    * DIMM2 + DIMM3 [only a black screen]
    what should I do?

A PSU is rated to run at +/-5% and that is well within it's rating. As for wether ists big enough there is no way we can say as you still did not give full system specs.
If it won't run with the third stick of RAM then pull it out for the moment and see if the system will boot again. If it does then during post you will see a Bios version listed. That board only supports Bios versions to 2.2 at the moment so please also list what actuall Bios version you have.
Ok, have booted with one instead of two sticks (one works, two don't, do not have three sticks)..
AMIBIOS A6702VMS v2.2 released 030405. The autodetect settings (at startup): Clock = 400Mhz, CAS 2.5 which seems correct.

  • NEO FISR2 (bios version 1.8) does not give me the option to hyperthread

The BIOS will not give me the option to set hyperthreading, and its not that it does give me the option and I just cant select it, it does not list it at all, anywhere. According the manual the hyperthreading option should be under the advanced BIOS category right after "boot to OS2" but its not listed there at all, or anywhere else in the bios.  I do not believe it is a problem with any of the hardware not supporting hyperthreading.  I have a NEO FISR2 motherboard and a P4 2.4 800fsb. I have 2 sticks of kingmax 256 DDR400 set for dual channel.  All items are retail boxed and specify in the manuals that they support hyperthreading.  The BIOS is AMI version 1.8.  I listed the rest of my system specifics in my signature if that helps.  Thanks in advance.

I have the same board and CPU(I think. You mention a 2.4 in your post and a 2.6 in your specs)
By default on the 1.8 Bios, The HT is set to enabled for me when I load defaults or clear Cmos etc...Even though you can't see the feature, did you look in Device Manager to see if there are 2 processors. Maybe it's stuck on!
Other than that, if you're 100% certain you have a HT capable CPU, I would try to load defaults on the Bios and re-boot. Failing that, clear Cmos and finally if that doesn't work, re-flash Bios. Only do these things if you're comfortable playing with the settings and know what you're doing! Right now, HT only seems to add a few % to performance on most apps and some people here have posted that they get better performance with it dis-abled.
