HELP!!! Accelerometer is dead... :(

Today I turned my iphone horizontal to view a webpage in landscape view... it doesn't work any more!
Anyone know if this is a known issue? I did a full software restore and that didn't fix it
I take care of this thing like it's my laptop, so it hasn't been dropped, I've done no hacks... I did the update a couple of days ago. Any ideas?

If the restore fails to help, theres not much you can do. It might be a hardware problem. I suggest you take it to the Apple Store and see what they can do. Or send it to Apple for them to fix.

  • PLEASE HELP ME WITH DEAD MINI!

I have a second hand mac mini that died, which I previously posted about here but never received any help. After reading as much as I could find here and on other sites, I decided it must be a dead hard drive. Bought a new one, installed it and no dice.
It still wont boot. I still get the file folder icon with a smiling face that alternates with a question mark.
I've tried starting in safe mode and every other mode I could think of with the old hard drive and the new one. No dice.
When I try holding down the Option key while I push the boot button, I get a padlock icon, a space to type in a password and an arrow to the right on the screen. The person I bought this from swore he never used any passwords to protect anything.
What the **** can I do????!!!!!
    Help please.

    Hi ccantiques-
It is quite possible that the motherboard circuitry that controls the disk is dead.
If you have the original disks that came with the Mac, you can reset the password yourself: Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password
Have you tried an external FireWire drive as a boot device?
    PLEASE DON"T YELL!

  • Help - iPod is Dead?

Hi, I've had a 60gb colour iPod for about 5 months. 9,700 songs and 1500 photos on it - 15Gb approx free and never had a problem. I was just showing a slideshow via the dock on the TV (it wasn't connected to the computer), took it out of the dock and it's dead. I've got a blank screen, can't power it up, NOTHING. I've plugged it into the PC and it doesn't even recongnize it as an iPod - any clues. I'm bricking it, any help real quick would be really appreciated.

First step is to try a Reset:

  • I need help reviving a dead G3 Pismo

    Hello folks!
I am trying to help a friend revive a Powerbook G3 Pismo. I have read many of the threads here, but thought it would be helpful to start a fresh one to address my particular problem.
Here's the deal: When you press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. No sounds, no lights, no nothing. My first throught was maybe that the power adapter was dead -- so I bought one on eBay -- same result, so I think we can rule that out.
I pulled out the processor board and then reseated that along with the RAM. No difference. So I am wondering what to do next? First question: Could a dead battery cause this? I have no idea of the condition of the battery -- should it be able to power up even with NO battery installed?
If someone can give me a list of things to try, and in what order, it would really be a great help.
    Thanks!

    vj,
    1. Remove the main battery, optical drive, and any peripherals.
    2. With just the power adapter connected, press the reset button on the back panel to reset the power manager, wait a few seconds, then see if it will start.
    3. Lift off the keyboard but leave it connected...just lay it face down on the palm rest. You will see the brown, circular backup batteries in a black case next to the HD. There is a red/white/black pigtail running to the logic board; carefully pull up on the white connector to disconnect it (needlenose pliers work well)...this allows the power manager to fully clear. Also, a malfunctioning battery can prevent startup. Since your 'book does power up, this should not be the issue but leave it disconnected for the troubleshooting. Enlarge the top picture:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/6.4.4.html
Now connect the power adapter and try starting.
    4. If no success, disconnect power adapter, remove the aluminum heat sink (be SURE to use the correct size tools) and remove the top memory module if present. Now press down very hard on the right side of the microprocessor card next to the HD and also next to the palm rest...this is where the multipin connector lies on the underside...a poorly seated microprocessor card can cause your symptoms. Now connect the power adapter and try starting.
    5. If still no start, lift out the microprocessor card (do NOT remove the heat tube from the microprocessor...lift out the whole unit) flip it over and remove the lower slot memory module. Now reseat the microprocessor card, connect the power adapter and try starting. I am not sure if it will throw up a firmware dialog stating no good memory modules are present but give it a try.
    6. Disconnect power adapter and place the memory module from the lower slot in the top slot, connect the power adapter and try starting.
    7. If still no success, carefully disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the logic board, then try starting.
    8. Remove the HD, then try starting; if the HD is the problem, it should boot to the gray secreen with a flashing '?'.
The instructions below show a step-by-step disassembly; there is no need to remove parts other than what I described for this troubleshooting. Use the correct tools and use good anti-static practices and you should be fine.

  • HELP - iTunes completely dead after 7.1 upgrade

I upgraded to iTunes 7.1. I'm using Vista Ultimate. The iTunes 7.1 upgrade appeared to install without a problem but when I rebooted now both iTunes and Quicktime produce the same error message if I try to either, Run, Repair or Remove the software. The message is as follows:
The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\Program files\iPod\Acknowledgements.rtf
Anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried to reinstall 7.1 and received the same message as above. I then went to the Control Pannel to add remove programs and I still received the same error message. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I can not find any location or contact to ask Apple for help.

    Rachyl,
Since I'm dead in the water I was hoping at least someone could tell me how to manually delete itunes so that I could try to re-install it again. As of now I can't do anything. Does anyone know if Apple reads these forums?

  • I Need Help..battery dead...

My Tungsten E2 is dead and I need a contact that is in there for my mother's funeral...I have tried charging it, but that doesn't do a thing.  What do I need to do to get it operational asap?
    Thanks!
    Post relates to: Tungsten T2

Sorry to hear about your mother.
If it's not turning on while connected to the charger, it has some serious problems.  Have you tried pressing the tiny Reset button on the back of the unit?  There was a thread about E2's failing to power on here:
    http://forums.palm.com/t5/Palm-OS-WinMo-Hardware/Is-your-E2-failing-to-Power-On/m-p/125094
Has the device been HotSynced to a computer?  The contacts will be there in Palm Desktop!

  • WRT54GL power led keep flashing, hard reset doesn't help. router is dead?

Just got my new WRT54GL. It worked very well for couple hours, and then I can't connect to it any more, wireless or wired.
Tried hard reset and follow instructions from here, it didn't help, power led still keeps flashing. I can't ping 192.168.1.1 or tftp to it.
So Router can be announced dead? I know it most likely be the flash bios issue, but what can I do with it?
    Thanks!

Unplug the power cable for 1 minute..... plug back the power & see if it is solid or not ....
If not lower down the Ethernet card speed from Auto to 10 half duplex or 10 Mbps ..... reset the router for 40-50 seconds .....  check the Ip address ...try to ping the gateway address if getting reply open routers set up page & upgrade the firmware of router ........
If not getting valid Ip address use static Ip address 192.168.1.50 ...subnet mask 255.255.255.0 .... & gateway 192.168.1.1
Again try to open the setup page ..........

  • Help for a dead iPod

Yesterday I attempted to listen to some music with my iPod, which is one of the older models (third generation, I believe) called "iPod with Clickwheel" in iTunes. My entire library showed in the music menu, but upon attempting to play any song whatsoever I was met with dead air, and the iPod would freeze for a few seconds. This applied to both mp3s and apple music store items.
Anyway, at my father's suggestion I restarted my iPod using the option where you plug it into your computer, turn hold off and on, and hold down the menu and center buttons until the apple logo appears. This successfully restarted the machine, but iTunes was not recognizing it and windows refused to disconnect it. So, I shut off my computer and disconnected the iPod once it had successfully shut down. Problem is, I no longer had a music library. The restart, which was (as far as I know) supposed to be just like powering down and re-booting a PC only for your iPod, had somehow caused it to stop recognizing that there was any music on the machine at all.
So I booted my computer back up and plugged the iPod in, and since iTunes did not come up automatically when I inserted the iPod even though I have it set to I manually opened iTunes. After waiting a while, it finally recognized the iPod, but said that it was corrupted and that it needed to restore factory settings before I could use the beast at all (unfortunately I did not think to save the exact contents of the error message.) I allowed it to attempt to do so, but after it had tried to restore the iPod for about 10 minutes it gave me another error message, and this one read as follows:
The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (1418)
so, as you can see I have at this point tried pretty much everything that apple suggests for restoring an iPod which is having trouble on their generic help page, but I still cannot get it to function again. Therefore, I have come to you, the users of the Apple forum, to see if anyone has any ideas of what I may be able to do which I have not done already.
    iPod details:
20 gig iPod with clickwheel, was using most up to date firmware available from apple before the problems started.
Dell Inspiron 2200 series laptop Windows XP Pro 1.6 gHz Pentium M Processor, 759 mb RAM, 60 Gig HD

Once you have a proven, working Charger... Charge the Device for a couple of hours. Then try to turn it on.
    If no joy...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Help ipod almost dead

my ipod vidoe was splashed with tea two weeks ago. we let it dry and proceeded to try and turn it on....nothing, until we plugged it directly into the wall. it does not work when plugged into the computer or when it's portable. we have let it charge overnight. when it is plugged into the wall it plays fine all songs are there as soon as you unplug it it goes dead also clock resets please help me figure out what the problem is. do i need a new battery?

The only reason that makes sense is that the battery is damaged. Liquids are very harmful for you iPod and Apple recommends to keep the iPods away of them since even rain can hurt it. If you tried drying it and then turning it on after few hours I doubt there is anything else you can do. Did your warranty expire yet? If not, I suggest you contact Apple right away.

  • Could some one help me with dead pixel on my screen?

I bought my Thinkpad X61 only a few days back. I opened it and found that there is one dead pixel in the middle of the monitor. Is there any possibilty that Lenovo would fix this? I know that I have to pay 15% of the purchage amount in order to return this peice. I would be really happy to return it without any costs. I talked to the service people. This is the worst service ever I had. No one is replying. One girl told me that the dead pixel goes away in a few days and It would be okey. It looks like if you order a laptop online, they send you laptop with defective pixels.

  • Need help with a dead Mac Air

So taking a long shot here. I was on my friends Macbook Air last night and it will not start at all. The Mac starts but doesnt go past the apple icon and a spinning gear icon like something is happening in the backround. Have kept it on for hours nothing happens.
Have tried all possible combinations of booting it like SMC reset, Boot in Safe Mode but nothing seems to work.
Is there any way to boot it from a USB or something?
Unfortunately since it wont start i cannot post the exact configuration.
Any sort of help will be appreciated.
Also if there is a way to restore it will be great..

If you have a boot drive on an external HDD with a compatible OS  you may be able to start the MBA.
I do think that the best option is to take the MBA to a repair facility for a diagnosis and repair.
    Ciao.

  • Help me, its DEAD!!!

hi guys, im in BIG trouble, iv got the ms 7211 board running a 2.6 ghz pentium wit 256 ram, its totally standard an it came with a zoostorm comp through a catalogue, i was using like ya do, playing some music, downloading an update for messenger, when it slowed down, i went to open task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and it turned off, with no warning!!, i tried to reboot an i just get a blank screen, not even a bios screen    is it the end of the world? can it be fixed? can you guys help? ive got really crucial info on my hdd and i need acces to it!

Quote from: bakergtr on 13-December-06, 06:25:32
ok guys i got you the specs
    AC input; 230v, 4a, 47 - 63 hz
    AC output; +3.3v-20.0A
                    +5v-32.0A
                    +12v-16.0A
                    +5vsb-2.0A
                    -5v-0.5A
                    -12V-0.5a
    fuse rating; 5A, 250v (+3.3v & +5v = 200w max)
    max output power; 350w (+12v, +5v & +3.3v total)
thats all it told me on the side, hope it helps??
In true fact, your +3.3v & +5v combined is only about 150watts, not 200watts and the PSU's +12 is about 160watts, which totals an output of 310watts instead of the mentioned 350watts PSU. I would suggest that you borrow a higher powered PSU like Hans and PeeRob mentioned to try out.

  • HELP mac-mini dead, PC cluts has no idea

We purchase a Mac-Mini May 21st, 2006 for our son. He was the one that registered the product. He cannot remember how he registered, so trying to get support the correct way is failing.
The Mac Mini will not boot, and having been stuck on PC for years, I don't have clue what to look for. When the system says NO SIGN OF LIFE for 90 seconds, I'm not sure whether to take it to the ER for a defibrilation or not.
We purchased this machine from Yorkdale, Ontario. Can we take it to the store in Kitchener or London, since it is closer? The TechTool disk would not run, so I have no idea what to tell them when I take it in! The DISK is stuck in the machine, with disk0s2 UNDEFINED as the predominat message.
    Any help appreciated.
    David Slater

First, how your son registered it shouldn't matter. One of the first thing the AppleCare representative does is ask for the computer's serial number. Who he or she is talking to at the time doesn't matter - my friends and colleagues often drag me into helping with their problems so I've made numerous tech support calls on behalf of people. I had a valid serial number and that's all that mattered to the tech rep.
Second, Apple's warranty must be honored by all certified service centers so where you bought it doesn't matter.
BTW, a stuck CD should be ejected if you hold the mouse button while you turn the computer on. If it doesn't. that's one of the things you can tell the tech when you go to your local store.

  • Help with possibly dead ipod .... any hope?

While listening to my Ipod, it suddenly sounded like it was dying - the music slowed down - like when a cassette tape gets twisted or runs out of battery life. The screen froze. I know it was fully charged - the previous day I charged it until it indicated that I could disconnect - and the green battery icon was near full before it seized up. I tried reset to no avail. The screen went blank Plugged into to PC to try and charge, but screen stays blank and the pc doesn't recognize it.
Is there any hope for my ipod?
(I'm in India - there are no service centers listed on the Apple web page)
Any help from fellow Ipod users would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi John,
Thanks for the link. There may be some hope - as it seems that I might just have to keep trying. I did try plugging it into the pc to charge, but no response. I read somewhere that I have to wait 30 minutes or so for it to get enough charge to be recognized - assuming that it's the battery.
Do you have any insight as to why the song that was playing just slowly died - slowed down and sounded warped - could this be what happens with a disk drive when the battery goes? Maybe then all I need to do is charge it...
    Thanks again,
