Help! Acer Aspire9410 Black Screen

I will try to be brief.....here is my problem.  Over the weekend I took this laptop to my local BestBuy to upgrade
my memory from 1GB to 4GB.  The Geek Squad installed (2) Kingston PC2-5300 2GB DDR2.  All has been well until today;
I logged online this morning and nothing!!  The Acer logo screen appears than the screen goes to black, no clicks, beeps nothing.
I tried to get a safe mode screen by holding the F8 button and the boot screen does not appear.  I turnoff and repeatedly
pressed the F8 button to get the safe mode screen to appear nothing.  The only screens that will appear are the F2-Setup
and the F12-Setup Utility screen.  Could the Ram Cards be defective?  Or am I having a hard drive issue?
Thanks!!!

Usually on the first screen that comes up in the BIOS, you can see the type of memory modules installed and the amount of ram installed. If the memory bank installed in is blank or some other dubious number chances are its not compatible.
Also, removing the memory from yoru Laptop is easier then you think, you just remove the panel where the memory is installed, remove the added memory off the clip and close the cover and restart the computer to see if the memory is bad or not.
As for the BIOS if you are just checking for reported memory, you can exit and discard the saved changes because nothing really has changed.

  • HELP!! Black screen on my MacBook Pro after leaving open and on for over 8 hours.

    Hi everyone,
This is the first time I'm using the discussion board as I haven't had any problems with my MacBook Pro since I bought it in November 2010. However, yesterday, I left my laptop on and open for over 8 hours without realising. When I came back to my laptop it had a black screen that just wouldn't go away. I pressed all the buttons on my keypad to wake it up but this didn't work. The caps lock key lights up when pressed and the volume button makes the clicky noise when turned up and down but the screen is still black. I have tried turning the laptop on/off using the power button several times. When it starts up it makes the usual sounds and I can hear that it is on but the screen is still black.
I do not use my laptop for anything complicated. I really only use it to browse the web. I hope someone can help me. I have tried to make an appointment with the Genius Bar but there are no available appointments at my local one. I'm not a mac expert and don't understand technical words so please speak in layman terms otherwise I won't understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    If you've a 15" version, maybe...
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Help solving the Black Screen of Death

    Hello There!
I have an HP Touchsmart 610-1100z 3 days ago I put it to sleep and when I tried to wake it up nothing happened.  I restarted it and it was just a black screen, no HP logo ect, but I could hear all the fans and drives working.  I checked the light issue with a desk lamp and revealed that is not the problem.  I then tied the BIOS F10 to F5 work around with no luck.  I have gotten it to boot up twice since then by repeatedly turning it off and on until by sheer luck it just boots up.  When it boots up there is absolutely no issue but clearly something is eskew that I would like to fix so that I don't live in fear of turning off my computer.  Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Acer XB270HU black screen after windows logo for about 20-30 seconds

Hi all,On a fresh and fully up to date OS (Win 7) with 2x GTX 980 Ti I have an issue where the screen goes black (No Signal) just after windows logo. Im using UEFI SDD boot flow, have secured boot disabled. Im connected with DispayPort 1.1 (not sure if that matters). This issue did not occur after getting to Windows just after the reinstallation of the OS (no drivers, no updates). It started to occur after the OS got fully up 2 date. Any ideas? As Im losing 30 seconds on boot-up with UEFI so it feels like IDE....

I also have the same issue, it only started a few days ago and ive had it for 2 weeks. Sometimes when I start up the computer, it will say no signal and my secondary monitor will turn on and take its place as the primary monitor. A restart will fix this issue, but then my Acer goes black, says no signal, comes back at a resolution of 600:800 and then 1920:1090, and changes again to its native 2560:1440.
Not to mention G-SYNC does not work at all on my monitor. I can't beleive they charge $1,000 for this extremely mediocre at best monitor

  • HELP! just black screen on start....

    I need your help!
I was working normally on my Mac and I leave the computer for an hour. When I came back, it was on sleep BUT with the fans going crazy, with a lot of noise. I turn off the computer and here comes the trouble-when I power on there is no sound chime and the screen just stays black with no mac os start up and if I wait for another minute the fans start to make a very loud noise.
I don't know what to do.
    Any suggestions please?

    Hum....no luck.
Now that I'm getting used to the idea of sending the computer to repair, one BIG QUESTION arise: I don't want to lost the contents of my 2 hard disks-I have them in RAID mode. So, if I tell the repair service to take out the 2 hard disk and replace with 2 new ones, do you think that with a HD external case and putting the old disks in there I should see in the finder my precious files in order to save them to the new system?

  • HELP!! BLACK SCREEN, STILL GETTING MESSAGES

I can receive messages because i hear my BBM tone go off, but the LED Light and screen are not responding to any messages or key pad pushes. Please help!!!!

It may be a hardware issue with the screen.  I'd suggest backing up the contents of the device and then contact your carrier if your device is still under warranty.

  • Viewing Slideshow in Bridge CS6 causes Black Screen

Not a question, just an observation that I don't know where else to report this.
I was using Bridge CS6 to view a folder of 200+ photos in Slideshow mode (Ctrl + L).
I was simply using the left and right arrow, occassionally the Spacebar, and marking about 25% of them as rejects by using the keyboard shortcut Alt + Delete.
Suddenly the entire monitor went black. No text message (not the Black Screen of Death), just black. I tried several standard Windows keyboard shortcuts to try to get a different view (Windows + Tab, Ctrl + Alt + Delete, etc.), but nothing worked. I could tell that the monitor was still functioning correctly by simply bringing up its on-screen menues. The only thing that I could do was to turn off the power to the computer. After rebooting, Windows, Photoshop, and Bridge all seemed to operate correctly (but I haven't yet gone back to Slideshow view).
I haven't had a program or Windows crash for months now, but I just installed Photoshop CS6 (not the extended version) late last week.
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
nVidia GTX-460 video card with newest drivers installed (296.10)

I can't help with the black screen, but that sounds like a slightly risky way of cleaning out the rejects.  I prefer to give non keepers a single star (Ctrl 1) and bring them up with the filters, so I can look through them one last time.
Just a thought, but there is a tenuous link with slide shows and projectors.  I wonder if it went into external monitor only mode.  (Windows key p)   I have just tried it here, and was unable to make anything appear on my main screen.  You'd be working blind, but a possible solution (if it happened again) would be to go Windows key p  > right cursor key (once) > Enter.   That would put you back into main monitor only mode.

  • Black screen function messing transitions

    SYSTEM PROFILE INFO:
running Tiger 10.4.4 and Keynote 2 on a 600Mhz dual USB iBook
PROBLEM: (Began having problems using Keyspan Presentation Remote after upgrading to KN2 and 10.4.4); when using the "black screen" keystroke feature in KN2 (I.e. command-b), the presentation would freeze when I returned to the presentation from the "black screen" mode. Behavior was NOT consistent. Sometimes it would simply be frozen on the last slide; other times it would start the next bullet animation, then suddenly stop the animation and then freeze. In any case, I cannot use the "black screen" feature without freezing my presentation.
I thought the problem was with the Keyspan Remote. Tried USB Overdrive software to fix; no results.
Then, I discovered that I have the exact problem using my iBook keyboard! Same problems resuming from "black screen" mode: freezing or partial bulleted text followed by freeze. Obviously, the problem is with either KN2 and my iBook (too slow? too old?) or something else.
I'd appreciate help as the "black screen" feature is HUGE to my teaching; it allows me to divert my students' gaze AWAY from the screen and back to me for a normal classroom atomosphere. It is one of the key benefits to me over PowerPoint.

Apparently, I have a serious problem, needs to be repaired by a professional.  This computer has only been used a few times, but have had it since 11/15/2013.  I am very disappointed in this product. Especially, since now it is needed.  I  will not by HP, off to look for a new computer

  • HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista black screen - need help please!

I have an HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista.  Yesterday it was working fine and today we have the black screen that reads:
    Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.
    BIOS ROM checksum error

I am not a techie, but looked at online forums and have tried f10 at startup with no change to the screen other than it stops after the first four lines and does not try the floppy drive.  I also pulled out the round battery, waited and then reintstalled.  Same problem.
Also, computer emits a single, repeating beep after startup.
    HELP!

    jjeahall
I saw your post and wanted to comment. I'm not an expert on these types of situations but did some digging around and found the following at Tips4PC.com.... read below
"There are two types of computer black screens that can appear in Windows. One where the computer will not boot up but you have a beep sequence sounding to let you know what the problem could be, and the other has nothing at all. No beeps, no cursor, no logo screen, and no choice to boot to safe mode or access the bios.
If your computer will not boot up and you get a beep sequence, I am not saying it is good news, however it is a step in the right direction towards solving this problem. This is a message from your computer that can be understood by looking up your bios (the brand) beep code. For example you may have an Award Bios, Ami Bios, Phoenix BIOS, Compaq, Dell, or Acer Bios. This list goes on and on.  You can search for Bios beep codes in Google. Here is an example of results in Google search"

Also  I went into the Troubleshooting Guide for the A6000  and found the following information.  You need to use F11 for recovery. See below
Starting System Recovery from system startup
    1
Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the On button until the computer
    turns off.
    2
Remove the HP Personal Media Drive if your computer includes one. Disconnect all
peripheral devices from the computer except the monitor, the keyboard, and the
    mouse.
    3
Press the On button to turn on the computer.
    4
During the startup, do the following to enter the Recovery Manager program:
When the blue screen with the HP Invent logo appears, press the F11 key on the
keyboard. (You have only a few seconds to press the F11 key before the normal
    startup process continues.)
    5
The computer starts the Recovery Manager program; wait for the onscreen instructions
to display, and then follow those instructions.
    6
Complete the computer startup, finish the registration process, and wait until you see
the desktop. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on
    the computer.
    I am an HP employee.
